Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 4, 2010

Organizers of the annual BioWest Conference & Expo are again looking for the best bioscience start-ups in the region as candidates for this year's $7,500 Dorsey & Whitney Venture Showcase Award. The announcement is made by Holli Baumunk, President & CEO of the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) who says, "four companies will be chosen to present at the showcase on Wednesday, September 29, and will be judged by a panel of venture capitalists. Deadline for entry is Friday, August 20."

The bioscience industry in Colorado is one of three industry sectors in the state that has shown job growth continuously. This comes as no surprise since on average 20 to 25 new start-up companies form each year within the state. However, financial constraints have impacted all businesses and investment is difficult to come by for these early stage companies. To draw attention to the ever evolving industry, the CBSA is once again holding its "Venture Showcase Competition." This year the event is sponsored by Dorsey & Whitney and the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation and is being held during its annual BioWest Conference & Expo to provide national exposure to some of the most promising bioscience start-up companies in Colorado.

"The BioWest Venture Showcase Competition allows early-stage companies to present their discoveries and research to venture capitalists and nearly 700 attendees during this regional conference," Baumunk explains. "Many of the past presenters have gained national and international exposure from participating in this event, and we are excited to include the competition in the conference again this year."

Four companies will be chosen to present to a panel of distinguished venture capital investors. Each competing company will have 15 minutes to present their technologies and business plans to the judges. The most compelling presentation will receive the $7,500 Dorsey & Whitney Venture Showcase award.

Dorsey & Whitney LLP will provide presentation and preparation advice to the four companies chosen to present at the showcase and award the winning company the $7,500 check during the Annual Awards Dinner on September 29th during the conference. "Dorsey is proud to sponsor this year's Venture Showcase Award at BioWest and continue to support the CBSA," Michael Weiner, a corporate partner with Dorsey & Whitney's Denver office and a member of the Board of Directors of the CBSA, says.  "As a firm we focus on providing early stage companies with sound business advice and support with regard to both intellectual property and corporate matters. We feel that our sponsorship of the Venture Showcase Award shows our continued support for early stage companies and the life sciences industry."
