Circulating Blood Cells are Important Predictors of Cancer Spread in Children

• Circulating blood cells higher in pediatric patients with metastatic disease • Endothelial cells most likely play a role in the development of cancer • Rare cells detected in adult cancer patients important in pediatric cancers

Philadelphia, PA (Vocus) July 15, 2009

Endothelial progenitor cells may play a role in the start and progression of metastatic disease in children with cancer, according to study results published in Clinical Cancer Research (http://clincancerres. aacrjournals. org/), a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

“This is the first study to measure circulating endothelial cells and endothelial progenitor cells in children with cancer, which can provide insight as to the biology of their tumor vessels,” said researcher Françoise Farace, Ph. D., director of the department of biology of circulating cells in the translational research laboratory, Institut Gustave Roussy, France.

“Not only were these cells found in higher levels in patients compared to healthy volunteers, but endothelial progenitor cells were found in strikingly higher amounts in patients with metastatic disease,” Farace said.

Circulating endothelial cells are rare cells that shed from the lining of blood vessels after vascular damage. Both circulating endothelial cells and their precursors, endothelial progenitor cells, have been described in previous studies, but mainly in the context of cardiovascular disease.

Farace and colleagues measured circulating mature endothelial cells and bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells in pediatric patients with solid tumors. They collected blood from 23 patients with localized disease, 22 patients with metastatic disease and 20 healthy participants and measured subsets of circulating cells.

While the researchers were not surprised to detect circulating endothelial cells and endothelial progenitor cells in pediatric patients, they were surprised to find these cell levels were significantly higher in patients with metastatic disease compared to levels found in healthy participants.

“This implies that these endothelial cells most likely play a role in the development of cancer in children,” Farace said. “We also observed a large range of cell levels in patients with various tumor types. In some cases, very high levels were observed, which means that their role may be very important.”

Preclinical studies have shown that these cells play a pivotal role in the initiation of metastasis or the spread of disease in mice; however, their association with metastatic spread has never been demonstrated in humans until now.

“Understanding the process of tumor vessel development in pediatric cancers is of utmost importance as pediatric patients are in dire need of new treatment strategies including those which could target tumor vessels,” said researcher Melissa Taylor, M. D., pediatrician and doctoral student in the translational research laboratory, Institut Gustave Roussy, France.

Additional studies are needed in larger study populations to confirm that endothelial progenitor cells are implicated in metastasis. If confirmed, these cells could potentially be measured in patients to allow for early detection of metastatic disease and could be targeted by new drugs to prevent the spread of cancer, according to the researchers.

“This study is very interesting. It demonstrated that these rare cells detected in the blood of adult cancer patients are also important in pediatric cancers,” said James L. Abbruzzese, M. D., F. A.C. P., chairman of the department of gastrointestinal medical oncology, M. G. and Lillie A. Johnson chair for cancer treatment and research and professor of medicine at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is also a deputy editor of Clinical Cancer Research.

One challenge with this study Abbruzzese pointed out is defining the characteristics of these cells, which may be more difficult to accomplish in a pediatric population because drawing a large volume of blood is not an easy task.

“Understanding these vascular precursor cells and seeing the changes over time may represent a real strategy for helping to identify drugs that might work in the pediatric population,” he said. “Insights as to which patients are likely to develop metastases may help us to identify a subset of patients that require more extensive therapy.”

Taylor believes these study results may potentially open new research strategies, which may take into account the study of circulating endothelial cells and progenitor cells in pediatric patients.

“Monitoring of these cells in larger and more homogenous study populations will help us understand the biology of tumor vessels and subsequently tumor growth in these diseases,” she said.

Palacio Del Mar Celebrates Its Second Year While Providing Retirees with Million Dollar Views

Palacio Del Mar Celebrates Its Second Year While Providing Retirees with Million Dollar Views

Palacio del Mar celebrates its second year of being a preferred choice for retirees with a look at why it has been and still is such an attractive option when compared to places such as in Vancouver Canada, Miami Florida, and downtown San Diego’s luxury developments.

Baja California, Mexico (PRWEB) September 16, 2010

Palacio del Mar, a luxury resort located in Rosarito Beach Mexico is celebrating this September its second year of being one of the most successful community developments in Baja despite de hard times for real estate developments. This is in no small part due to the cost savings the resort and its location represent; adding up to millions when compared to cities like San Diego, Vancouver and Miami.

The biggest difference between these cities being the actual purchase price of the units, but after adding property taxes, home owner association fees (HOAs) and cost of living expenses, the differences stack up making it clear why it would be an attractive option especially for retirees.

Luxury developments (http://www. palaciodelmar. com) have now become a regular sight in major cities and tourist destinations offering high quality finishing materials along with a combination of amenities which differentiates one development form another usually with a price tag close to or over a million dollars. For example: a small condo in Vancouver can start at around $700K to more than $3M for over 2000 sq ft; in Miami a luxury condo can be anywhere from 1M to well over 6M; downtown San Diego has a similar price of 1M to around 3M, whereas Palacio del Mar’s prices start at $320K.

Property taxes are also a consideration for buyers for instance, Miami property taxes are 2% of the purchase price, 1.2% for San Diego, 1% for Mexico, while Vancouver is on average less than 1% but ultimately the purchase prices in Palacio is considerably lower. HOA fees, also a considerable expense range from $400 a month to well over $1500 in the US and Vancouver increasing with the amount of amenities offered compared to $450 in Palacio for over 10 amenities (http://www. palaciodelmar. com/amenities_and_services/) including concierge and shuttle service.

The cost of living, also an important factor for retirees is lowest in Baja with a cost of $500 in groceries (for a small family) with the highest being San Diego at around $800 (both of which can be less for bargain hunters); the cost of gas is lowest in Baja at $2.60 per gallon with the highest being Vancouver at $4.46 per gallon; health care premiums for individuals can be about $2000 in Mexico (much lower for government health care) and around $3000 or higher depending on the policy or deductible in the US (also varying in each state; movie tickets are $2.70 in Baja vs up to $13 in Vancouver.

Weather wise, San Diego has been said to have the best weather in the US and Rosarito has very similar conditions, temperature ranging from 50–68 °F in winter and 73–80 °F in the summer, ideal for outdoor activities like surfing, camping, dinning, hiking, culture, night life, shopping and getting pampered. One significant difference that Palacio has to Vancouver, San Diego and Miami, is that is not located in a major metropolitan area; located a few minutes away from downtown Rosarito, is far enough away to be a quiet getaway with the advantage of being a short drive away from the Guadalupe Valley.

David Stibor a Dentist in Las Vegas and Lonnie Stibor a Las Vegas realtor, have this to say about Palacio Del Mar: “My wife and I have been sharing our time between Las Vegas and Palcio Del Mar since we bought here 2 years ago, and all I can say is I wish we had found this place years ago. The weather is perfect, the people are wonderful, and all the bad press is terrible. We feel safer here than we do in many U. S cities. The great food, great golf and the beautiful ocean at our doorstep, what more could you ask for!”

Palacio del Mar is located off the Rosarito - Ensenada toll road just 40 minutes from the San Ysidro border. It is a short drive away from Bajamar, Lobster Village at Puerto Nuevo and the vineyards in the Guadalupe Valley, which is the largest wine producer in northwest Mexico. Palacio del Mar offers shuttle service to these locations, as well as to and from San Diego and Ensenada. Palacio also offers weekly rentals; for more information on pricing, tours and appointments visit PalacioDelMar. com (http://www. palaciodelmar. com).

For Insomnia, Acupressure Tapping Technique May Out-Perform Drugs and Cognitive Therapy

For Insomnia, Acupressure Tapping Technique May Out-Perform Drugs and Cognitive Therapy

Six weeks of cognitive therapy treats insomnia better than prescription drugs, but EFT, a do-it-yourself acupressure tapping technique, may out-perform both -- and its results are both fast and lasting.

San Francisco CA (PRWEB) August 31, 2006

More than 82 million Americans have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. Insomnia does more than put people in a grumpy mood; it contributes to errors and accidents in the workplace, disrupts hormone balance, accelerates the aging process, and is considered a risk factor for depression, diabetes, obesity, cancer, and other illnesses.

Prescription and over-the-counter sleep aids are among our most popular drugs, but drugs don’t always work and often have adverse side effects. One answer is cognitive behavioral therapy, which has been shown to treat chronic insomnia better than a prescription drug. In a study published in the June 28 Journal of the American Medical Association, those receiving six weeks of cognitive therapy increased the amount of time they spent in bed, increased the amount of time they spent sleeping, and spent more time in the deepest stages of sleep than did patients receiving a prescription sleep aid or a placebo. But a do-it-yourself acupressure tapping technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), which can be learned from a free training manual at http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prwinsomniacj (http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prwinsomniacj), may out-perform all of them.

Practitioners of EFT, who include medical doctors, psychologists, and other health care practitioners, have found that tapping on key acupressure points while focusing on insomnia or the conditions that contribute to it helps people of all ages fall asleep and stay asleep. Best of all, they don’t have to wait six weeks to see results, for relief can occur within minutes.

“It’s all a matter of working with the body’s energy,” says Gary Craig, the Stanford-trained engineer who developed EFT and who has received hundreds of reports from practitioners around the world. “Insomnia and other symptoms occur when the body’s energy flow is disrupted. Acupressure tapping and focused attention combine to restore the normal flow of energy and relieve physical and emotional symptoms that interfere with sleep.”

EFT is a new procedure, but already over 300,000 have downloaded its free manual from http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prwinsomniacj (http://www. emofree. com/downloadeftmanual. asp? ref=prwinsomniacj) and an additional 10,000 download it every month. The manual is available in nine languages. EFT practitioners around the world, especially in the U. S., Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia, teach EFT classes and work with clients.

Obesity Has Become Such a Problem that the US Health and Human Services has Declared It a Disease

Obesity Has Become Such a Problem that the US Health and Human Services has Declared It a Disease

Dublin (PRWEB) January 31, 2006

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c31684 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c31684)) has announced the addition of Obesity Drug Discovery: Success and Challenges for a New Pharmaceutical Market to their offering.

In recent years, obesity has become a major health problem for many postindustrial societies, so much so that in 2004, the United States Health and Human Services declared obesity to be a disease. Obesity poses a major health risk because it greatly increases the risk of comorbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, and cancer. Recognizing the potential for a new blockbuster market, major pharmaceutical companies have increasingly focused on obesity and its causes, in the process identifying many potential targets and pathways that could be exploited to create novel therapies. Studies on the molecular mechanisms involved in obesity are revealing a complex set of pathways, feedback loops, hormones, and metabolites that integrate multiple physiological systems in the brain, gastrointestinal system, endocrine system, and metabolic systems. The challenge for obesity drug discovery is that drugs must compete against powerful physiological and behavioral factors that have been selected by evolution to favor feeding and energy storage.

In this report, we provide a detailed discussion of the mechanics of obesity and its comorbidities, as well as the targets and pathways identified as points of intervention by investigational obesity drugs. We will also examine directions being pursued in obesity research and development and corporate alliances and activities in the field.

Business Implications

The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically in the last ten years, prompting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to describe obesity as an epidemic. Obesity increases predisposition to various diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. In 2004, the United States Health and Human Services declared obesity to be a disease, creating important changes to Medicare and health care reimbursement policy for obesity-related therapies.

Obesity has increasingly become the focus of major pharmaceutical companies as they recognize the potential for a new blockbuster market. Rimonabant, a drug that regulates appetite, is in Phase III clinical trials. Companies are also forming high-value alliances, including target and lead identification deals, with biotech companies for obesity drug discovery.

Research into the causes of obesity has identified many potential targets and pathways that could be exploited to create novel therapies. New investigational obesity drugs and drug targets can be generally categorized into those that regulate appetite, lipid metabolism, and adipocytes or their signals. Obesity research is still in its infancy, and researchers are likely to identify many new potential targets and therapeutic approaches.

Because obesity therapy is a preventive therapy for otherwise outwardly healthy people, patients and regulatory agencies will not tolerate unacceptable medium-to-long-term side effects. Companies must develop therapies with side effects that are not worse than the obesity-related comorbidities the drugs are trying to prevent. Another challenge for long-term obesity therapy is simply to overcome the evolutionary selection of multiple physiological and metabolic responses that favor appetite and fat storage.

From health nuts and athletes to those living with ulcers or cancer, Oxycharged Water delivers health benefits with the launch of the Oxygen Generator, the first portable, affordable home oxygenation system. The Oxygen Generator infuses pure oxygen into drinking water, juice or any other liquid. See www. OxyChargedWater. com to place an order or for more information.

Inspired by his wife's battle with cancer, founder Art Leidecker created the first Oxygen Generator to help counter the effects of chemotherapy. Drinking Oxycharged Water supplements oxygen taken in through the lungs, which can have numerous positive effects on the body, including increased energy and endurance, improved immune and respiratory function and minimized joint pain and deterioration.

"It's a simple concept -- drinking oxygenated water increases the level of oxygen in the blood, enabling the body to function at a higher level of efficiency," said Leidecker. "The health benefits of drinking oxygenated water have been documented through numerous medical studies in the last decade. The Oxygen Generator makes it easy and affordable for anyone to experience these benefits by producing oxygenated water in their own homes."

The Oxygen Generator automatically extracts pure oxygen from household peroxide and infuses it into drinking water, increasing the oxygen level of typical tap and bottled water by 400 percent and above. Though large and noisy, Leidecker's first system produced water that was much more oxygen rich than bottled water. Through extensive research and development, he soon built a system that was portable, quiet and affordable. The Oxygen Generator is lightweight, easy to use and produces up to two gallons of oxygenated water in less than 10 minutes. Consumers can purchase the basic Oxygen Generator starting at $149.95.

For more information about the Oxygen Generator, visit www. OxyChargedWater. com. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

The Scandle™ is perfect for massage, spa treatments, paraffin treatments of the hands and feet, or as an everyday moisturizer.

"I wanted to create a candle that looks and smells as beautiful on your skin as when you light it," said Christine White, owner of Scandle, LLC and inventor of the Scandle. "I believe our combination of healthy, high grade, natural ingredients has created a product that will awaken the senses of touch, sight, and smell in a way that no other candle or body oil ever has."

The Scandle™, dubbed as the first candle that is not only healthy for your skin, but healthy for the environment is made of the finest natural ingredients and is free of paraffin, petroleum, stearic acid, and UV inhibitors. Made with a 100% cotton wick, the Scandle™ has a burn time of 30-50 hours and creates enough oil for up to 20 full body massages when burned in 3 hour increments.

The Scandle™ is currently available in a 7oz. tureen candle jar and is available in a variety of fragrances including Lavender, Energizing, Green Tea Aloe, Gardenia, Margarita, and more. Although the oil can be poured directly from the jar or applied with the fingers, The Scandle™ also comes with a Scandle Spoon™ for easy application. The Scandle™ has a recommended retail price of $22.50.

The Joy of Soy - There are several benefits of the soy used in Scandles™ that can never be replicated with paraffin candles or other vegetable based candles. Unlike paraffin, which is a byproduct of oil refining, soy does not emit dangerous, headache inducing toxins and carcinogens such as benzene, acetone, lead & mercury when burned. Furthermore, soy creates little or no soot which can coat ceilings, walls and damage homes and other structures. Finally, soy is a biodegradable and water soluble product that burns cooler than paraffin and, therefore, slower.

Celiac. com Launches "Journal of Gluten Sensitivity"

Celiac. com has launched its newest publication: "Journal of Gluten Sensitivity," edited by Dr. Ron Hoggan. This new publication has a long and respected history under its original title "Scott-Free Newsletter," which includes 28 issues since 2002 that have reached tens of thousands of subscribers.

Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) July 28, 2009

Celiac. com has launched its newest publication: "Journal of Gluten Sensitivity," edited by Dr. Ron Hoggan. This new publication has a long and respected history under its original title "Scott-Free Newsletter," which includes 28 issues since 2002 that have reached tens of thousands of subscribers. Scott-Free Newsletter offered the most in-depth and accurate information on celiac disease, gluten sensitivity and the gluten-free diet, and Celiac. com will continue this tradition under its new namesake.

The idea behind the original title was that if you read and understood the information contained in our newsletter, you would be able to deal with a diagnosis of celiac disease and remain "Scott-Free," in other words, it would be no big deal. Since nearly three quarters of Journal of Gluten Sensitivity's authors have PhD's, and many of them have published at least one book on celiac disease or the gluten-free diet, Celiac. com will continue to meet this goal under-- Journal of Gluten Sensitivity-- and the new title more closely matches the publication's content, so it will appeal to an even broader audience.

In addition to the title change, Celiac. com will soon offer the most relevant information from our past issues of Scott-Free Newsletter in book form, with the goal of passing on the best and most accurate information available on celiac disease, gluten sensitivity and the gluten-free diet to as many people as possible.

The Journal of Gluten Sensitivity is a research-oriented publication that focuses on the latest celiac disease research, articles on gluten sensitivity, health information specific to those with gluten intolerance, and also includes recipes, cooking tips, and diet information for leading dietitians and experts such as Carol Fenster, Ph. D., Connie Sarros, Cynthia Kupper, RD, CD (Executive Director, Gluten Intolerance Group), Danna Korn, Shelley Case, B. Sc., RD, and many others.

The cost of our publication has never changed--$29.95 for the paper publication, and $24.95 for the on-line publication. It is like buying a good book that is sent to you in four parts over a one year period. Most of our subscribers are instantly hooked, and many researchers subscribe to it to keep up on the latest research--and possible future research--that is being done, and still needs to be done. Subscribe to Journal of Gluten Sensitivity today and you will understand why we originally called it "Scott-Free."

YourHouseIntoCash. com Offers New How to Avoid Foreclosure Resources

YourHouseIntoCash. com Offers New How to Avoid Foreclosure Resources

People looking to avoid foreclosure and prevent being foreclosed now have a new resource from YourHouseIntoCash. com, a leading group of real estate investors. YourHouseIntoCash. com has added a “How to Avoid Foreclosure Tips” section to its Web site to help homeowners in the current unsteady economy.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) September 3, 2010

YourHouseIntoCash. com now offers individuals a new resource with information and advice on how to avoid foreclosure with the latest addition of a new “Avoid Foreclosure” section to its website. The section, which provides an array of frequently asked questions on how to avoid foreclosure, gives users the opportunity to learn about the necessary steps they must take to be successful and prevent foreclosure.

“In today’s still shaky economy, thousands of homeowners continue to struggle with mortgage payments and the threats of foreclosure,” said Gordon Sands of YourHouseIntoCash. com, a leading group of real estate investors. “With this latest resource, we’re looking to help homeowners prevent foreclosure and also learn how to save money with a refinanced mortgage loan to help avoid losing their home through being foreclosed by refinancing to a lower interest rate and monthly payments.”

Foreclosure is the legal process in which the mortgagee/lender (for example the bank that lends money) obtains a court-ordered termination of the mortgagor's/borrower's (the person/company who borrows the money) right to redemption of equity in the property.

Most foreclosures happen during recessions, but many also happen during the best of economic times. If you are facing these problems please realize it is not your fault and that foreclosures can happen to anyone, even the richest of the rich.

There are many reasons people fall into pre-foreclosure and eventually face foreclosure, but the most common reasons are medical/ health related. If you cannot pay your mortgage payment on time each month or are facing foreclosure you NEED to take action today!

The website also explains your options once you are in foreclosure and what steps to take, as well as a page on the reasons why filing for bankruptcy to prevent being foreclosed may not be the best option.

“There are a lot of people out there who are facing the real possibility of losing their homes and their dreams to foreclose, but have no idea where to begin or what to do,” Sands said. “This page offers the perfect opportunity for them to learn more and get started as soon as possible, before time has slipped away.”

YourHouseIntoCash. com is made up of real estate investors who buy houses across the United States, presenting fair offers within 24 hours. The site is run by Win Win Win Properties, Inc.

To learn more about how to avoid foreclosure, visit the company’s latest resource section at http://www. yourhouseintocash. com/stop-foreclosure/index. html (http://www. yourhouseintocash. com/stop-foreclosure/index. html).

Hyundai Records Biggest Year In History

Hyundai Records Biggest Year In History

Hyundai New Zealand and Worldwide continue to become a global force in the automotive market. Bucking trends, setting new records and increasing brand value are just a few of the 11 months of highlights from January through to November in 2010.

(Vocus/PRWEB) January 19, 2011

For both, 2010 has been their biggest year in history. As well as supplying a record number of vehicles to happy owners, they have notched up an impressive list of accomplishments.

In the 11 months to end November, Hyundai sold a record 5,277 vehicles in New Zealand. Hyundai was the fifth largest supplier of private vehicles, just behind Holden and ahead of Ford.

At a healthy 16 percent, Hyundai grew by more than the national market average while in the passenger-vehicle market its growth was 17 percent, again above the national average.

Hyundai remains the number-one-selling diesel brand and Santa Feis the top-selling passenger diesel vehicle.

The ix35 arrived in 2010 and the fabulous new compact SUV, with the Korean girl emotionally chasing it in a popular TV commercial, came with the top safety rating of five stars from Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

Meanwhile Hyundai rocked the sedan market with the striking new i45, which promptly picked up a coveted Australian International Design Award.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Hon Bill English officially opened a new dealership at North Harbour Hyundai in September, displaying world-class facilities under the Elite Dealer programme.

And everyday Hyundai owners joined pro drivers in Hyundai’s innovative entry in the AA ENERGYWISE Rally.

“It’s been our biggest year on record … and we expect 2011 will be even bigger again,” commented the Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai New Zealand, Tom Ruddenklau.

“But we are a proudly New Zealand company, 100 percent locally owned and operated throughout our dealer network, and we don’t count our success merely in sales – we are involved with Kiwis accomplishing great things all over the country.”

“In 2010 we have been active across a very wide range of community activities from sport to welfare support and more.”

“We’ll be doing that again next year, and beyond.”

In sport, Hyundai rode to the Football World Cup with the All Whites, bringing the FIFA Goodwill ball tour and the FIFA Fanfest to New Zealand. Meanwhile the brand is an active sponsor of the Hyundai A League and New Zealand’s own Phoenix club.

Then the World Rowing Champs came to Karapiro and Hyundai was a National Supporting Partner.

Hyundai athletes, lightweight rowers Storm Uru and Peter Taylor starred on the water – as did world-leading Olympic Laser sailor Andrew Murdoch. So did the competitors in the Hyundai Pro Longboard tour.

Hyundai’s unique Pinnacle mentoring programme graduated Adam Hall, who promptly won a stunning gold medal at the Paralympics in Canada. Talented Warriors rugby league player Elijah Taylor became the ninth athlete in Pinnacle.

In the rural community, Hyundai was a staunch supporter of Fieldays and the Young Farmer Contest.

Hyundai’s Beads of Courage campaign for the Child Cancer Foundation reached $2 million in funds raised and this year Mary Miller of Christchurch won a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe SUV by buying a bead.

Globally, Hyundai sold a record 3.3 million vehicles in the 11 months to November.

They were manufactured in South Korea and five Hyundai overseas plants: China, India, Turkey, USA, Czech Republic, with a sixth to open in Russia in 2011.

Hyundai, founded in 1967, is now the world’s fifth-largest automaker and includes more than two dozen auto-related subsidiaries and affiliates. It employs more than 75,000 people worldwide.

There was confirmation this year that it’s also the fastest-growing vehicle company in the world, with a dramatic rise in the value of its brand, up 9.3 percent to US$5 billion in an independent global study. No other vehicle brand could match that growth.

And Hyundai says it is just getting started.

Washington, DC, (PRWEB) September 22, 2004 – Drawing attention to a national crisis nearing epidemic proportions, the health information web portal, Weight Awareness. com has launched. The web site is dedicated to providing the most current and up-to-date information relating to the major issues of weight.

Dr. Allen Spiegel, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), “commends” Weight Awareness. com “for its commitment to providing the public with information about overweight” issues. He also states that ‘increasing the public’s awareness about obesity requires work and dedication’ and Dr. Spiegel acknowledges Weight Awareness. com “for the efforts to improve the Nation’s health.”

The overweight epidemic demands attention, and more calls to action need to be made. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), nearly 65% of the American population is overweight or obese. That percentage equates to roughly 130 million people.

The US Surgeon General estimates that over 300,000 Americans die secondary to weight related illnesses and inactivity. Obesity and weight related complications are approaching smoking as the number one killer in the US.

It was reported this year that the medical expenses for managing this epidemic cost the US taxpayers $117 billion in the year 2000. Obesity and weight related problems require more attention, and Weight Awareness. com is an excellent source of information.

Weight Awareness. com effectively presents quality information using an expanded abstract format to explain the problems associated with being overweight, weight management options, and the surgical possibilities for weight loss as well as rejuvenation techniques after weight loss.

WeightAwareness. com provides credible subject content on the overweight epidemic, childhood obesity, exercise and fitness, nutrition, diet, gastric bypass surgery and plastic surgery after weight loss. It is a comprehensive site that also has a community for visitors to log into and partake in chat discussions. Weight Awareness additionally hosts live events with guest experts helping the viewers learn more about many different issues and how they relate to weight.

Aside from the topics of information and the community; Weight Awareness has geographically organized directories. The directories contain lists of professionals, and organizations that offer assistance in dealing with many areas of weight related issues. Some examples of the professionals are weight management centers, weight counselors, physicians specializing in weight related issues, gastric bypass surgeons and plastic surgeons. The web site also has current news stories from multiple electronic sources to keep the site up to date. Additional news stories are written for Weight Awareness bimonthly from information that is found in most current periodicals, newspapers and magazines.

ReStockIt. com Greatly Cutting Prices on Hand Sanitizers, Masks to Help Combat Swine Flu Epidemic

ReStockIt. com is where customers can buy Purell hand sanitizer that really works at up to 50% off retail price.

Hollywood, FL (PRWEB) April 28, 2009

In a great effort to help stop the spread of the swine flu epidemic, ReStockIt. com, where consumers go to buy Purell hand sanitizer at wholesale prices, today announced that it is further discounting all of its Purell hand sanitizer products.

On April 26, the U. S. government declared the swine flu outbreak a public health emergency.

"The spread of swine flu is of global concern and we want to do our part to help contain it," said Jennifer DiMotta, VP of marketing. "ReStockIt. com is where consumers can go to buy masks and Purell hand sanitizer at deeply discounted prices. These products really work to help curb the spread of germs and disease," she added.

To help slow the spread of the swine flu epidemic, the CDC recommends that people stay home if they're sick, avoid close contact with people who are sick, wash hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze - alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, cover their mouths or nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, and keep up with health information in their own community. The use of Purell and other hand sanitizers also really work (http://www. ReStockIt. com/hand-sanitizer-swine-flu-pr. html) to stop the spread of germs.

ReStockIt. com is where consumers can buy Purell hand sanitizers (http://www. ReStockIt. com/hand-sanitizer-swine-flu-pr. html) at prices between 30%-50% off list price. The company also offers great cleaning products up to 60% off list price and masks and other medical supplies up to 30% off list price to help stop the spread of the swine flu epidemic. The company is also offering free shipping on many of its cleaning products.

The swine flu symptoms are similar to regular flu symptoms. They include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills, headache, and fatigue. Some patients have also reported nausea and diarrhea. There is no easy way to distinguish swine flu from other types of flu or other germs and a lab test is needed to determine if the illness is the swine flu.

THE AUSTIN SYMPHONY PRESENTS A SEASON OPENER BURSTING WITH PASSION AND NATIONALISM

THE AUSTIN SYMPHONY PRESENTS A SEASON OPENER BURSTING WITH PASSION AND NATIONALISM.

WHO: The Austin Symphony Orchestra WHEN: September 5 & 6, 2003 – 8:00 p. m. WHERE: Bass Concert Hall TICKETS: $19 - $35 CONTACT: Public Relations Department 476-6064

(PRWEB) August 23, 2003

In a time when the nationalistic power of classical music is sorely needed yet overlooked and scarcely supported, the Austin Symphony Orchestra opens it’s new season, “93 Seasons Under One Flag” with one of classical music’s most revered talents: pianist Emanuel Ax. Ax is renowned not only for his poetic temperament and unsurpassed virtuosity, but also for the exceptional breadth of his performing activity.

Maestro Peter Bay will be bringing his vision and passion back to the podium for his 6th season with the Symphony. Audiences should expect to find the orchestra in top shape and Bay has prepared quite a program to start them out. For the curious and venturesome, there are pre-concert talks at Bass Concert Hall starting at 7:10 and a wealth of information on the Symphony website as well.

Concert Program:

SMETANA  The Moldau from “My Fatherland”

FALLA Nights in the Gardens of Spain

SIBELIUS Symphony No.2 in D Major, Op. 43

Emanuel Ax will be performing Manuel de Falla’s “Nights in the Gardens of Spain.” Falla was the first major composer to establish a nationalistic “voice” for Spain. The work is heralded as one of pure emotion. “Nights in the Gardens of Spain” is a marvelous refinement of Spanish temperament with impressionistic, jewel-like craftsmanship from a composer with a subtle ear for color and absolute precision of technique.

Also on the program are Bedøich Smetana’s (a Czechoslovakian national hero) most famous and most frequently performed work “The Moldau from ‘My Fatherland’” and the astounding “Symphony No.2 in D Major” by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius who enjoyed phenomenal popularity in his time. While insisting that there is nothing political in the programming, Maestro Bay submits, “All three composers reflect a love for their homelands.”

Born in Lvov, Poland, Emanuel Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada, with his family when he was a young boy. Mr. Ax captured public attention in 1974 when, at age 25, he won the First Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv; the first in a series of prestigious awards. He has been an exclusive Sony Classical recording artist since 1987. Devoted to chamber music literature, Mr. Ax regularly works with such artists as Young Uck Kim, Cho-Liang Lin, Yo-Yo Ma, Peter Serkin and Jaime Laredo, and he was a frequent collaborator with the late Isaac Stern.

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c19698) has announced the addition of Food Additives Market - Global Trends and Developments (3rd Edition) to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) June 27, 2005

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c19698 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c19698)) has announced the addition of Food Additives Market - Global Trends and Developments (3rd Edition) to their offering.

The global market for the traditional food additives sectors is estimated to be worth USD22bn a year. "The Food Additives Market – Global Trends and Developments" identifies the major market forces influencing the international additives market, and presents a detailed analysis of trends in the market for 13 different categories of additive. In addition to information on applications, market sizes and trends, and the leading companies in the industry, the report also looks at finished food trends impacting on additives and assesses future prospects for the market.

In the modern world, food manufacturers are under constant pressure to innovate in order to keep up with consumer interests and demands. Not only do consumers want convenient foodstuffs with a long shelf-life, but they are also seeking more sophisticated foods, often with exotic or ethnic flavours, plus foods that contain natural and organic ingredients, foods that can assist in weight control and foods that can benefit their health in other ways.

These trends are impacting at all levels of the food market and the additives sector is no exception, with the manufacturing sector passing on some of the responsibility to satisfy these demands to their suppliers. As a result, certain sectors of the additives market are seeing growth in natural products at the expense of synthetics, there is rising demand for fat replacers and sweeteners in the weight control market, functional food ingredients are booming, and, in other areas, tailored solutions aimed at specific applications are appearing to make product formulation more straightforward for the processors.

This new study identifies the major market forces driving development of the additives market around the world, and presents a detailed analysis of trends in the market for 13 different categories of additives.

In addition to information on applications, market sizes and trends, and the leading companies in the industry, the report also looks at finished food trends impacting on the additives sectors and assesses future prospects for the market.

Telecommuting Boosts Worker Productivity, CompTIA Survey Finds

Telecommuting Boosts Worker Productivity, CompTIA Survey Finds

Cost savings, staff hiring and retention and improved employee health also cited as benefits.

Oakbrook Terrace, IL (Vocus) October 7, 2008

Companies that give their workers the option of telecommuting are benefiting from greater productivity, lower costs, more options for finding and retaining qualified staff, and improved employee health, according to a new survey released today by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

More than two-thirds (67 percent) of survey respondents said their organization has experienced greater worker productivity as a result of allowing employees to telecommute either full-time or part-time. Improved productivity is principally due to workers spending less time getting to and from work.

“With ‘anywhere’ connectivity, faster broadband options and high-quality video and online conferencing choices, the opportunity for virtual offices is greater today and more affordable for businesses of all sizes and types,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA.

Companies who utilize telecommuting are also benefiting from cost savings through reduced use of office-related materials and resources and lower vehicle-related expenses. Nearly six out of ten respondents (59 percent) to the CompTIA telecommuting trends survey identified cost savings as a significant benefit.

Telecommuting is also helping organizations find and keep qualified staff, and keep their employees healthier.

According to the CompTIA survey, 39 percent of respondents said their companies have access to more qualified staff, especially those who may not otherwise be geographically accessible, because they offer telecommuting as an option. Another 37 percent of respondents said telecommuting helps their organization improve employee retention. One-quarter of survey respondents (25 percent) said telecommuting improves employee health, mainly though reduced stress levels associated with commuting to and from work.

Other benefits of telecommuting, as revealed in the survey, include promotion of safety through reduced highway use (18 percent); and environmental benefits (17 percent).

The survey was intended to better understand the benefits and challenges of telecommuting; and to determine how organizations are addressing these challenges. Businesses represented in the survey include information technology service companies, government, manufacturers, technology solution providers, not-for-profit training organizations and schools, telecommunications, healthcare, entertainment, and real estate. The Web-based survey was conducted between Aug. 27 and Sept. 23. It closed with 212 responses and has a margin of error of ± 5.6 percent. Mystery Managers Blog Offers Fresh View on the Business World

A new blog, run by two anonymous managers on different sides of the country offers candid views and opinions on all aspects of business

(PRWEB) May 26, 2005

Preferring to remain anonymous, the Mystery Managers (http://www. mysterymanagers. com (http://www. mysterymanagers. com)) have been blogging for almost a month, offering candid views on corporate America, and the business world in general.

"We simply decided one day to stop venting over email," says Mystery Manager #1, "and to take our view public. We know there are lots of frustrated managers out there, and we can offer advice, or at least a forum to express their views without fear of repercussions."

When asked about his views, Mystery Manager #2 is quick to go for the throat: "So many of the business advice forums out there don't really deal with real time issues, and they are nowhere near as candid as we are...by being anonymous, we can post with reckless abandon, for now."

With a healthy mixture of marketing, management, HR, and leadership advice, this blog promises to become a force in the business world, hopefully meeting the ultimate goal of both of the Mystery Managers, to change Corporate America for the better.

Coastal Vacations Live Seminar Will Offer 10% of its Profits to Red Cross Tsunami Relief in South East Asia

Coastal Vacations Live Seminar Will Offer 10% of its Profits to Red Cross Tsunami Relief in South East Asia.

As part of the ongoing effort to make a difference in the Tsunami relief efforts, Karl Jacobsen's team of Coastal Vacations Directors will meet February 5th in South Padre Island to announce its donation to the Red Cross. - Karl Jacobsen, a Level II Director with Coastal vacations for over 3 years, explained, "We feel for the folks who suffered in the latest disaster in the Indian Ocean. Because many of us feel so fortunate to have not only our health but also an abundant flow of wealth coming in, we thought it would make sense to band together and give back to our fellow world citizens in South East Asia by making a conbtribution to the red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund."

(PRWEB) January 9, 2005

Karl Jacobsen and his group will be meeting February 5th in South Padre Island to host a special Coastal Vacations Live Seminar and 10% of their proceeds will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund organized by the International Red Cross.

During the Live Coastal Vacations event, individual coaching and group mentoring will be offered to assist Coastal members and Coastal Directors advance their businesses, by learning all the latest strategies and techniques for success in today's modern internet environment. The Live Coastal vacations Seminar will take place February 5th in South Padre Island, Texas to educate individuals about different ways they can tap into the enormous travel industry for savings on cruises, ski resorts, condo rentals and even airfares. Those interested in referring others will learn how the Coastal vacations compensation plan will help them earn $1000 to $3000 for each new person they refer. Here's what Jim Reilly of Fort lauderdale, Florida had to say about the event he attended, "I can't begin to thank you enough for the wonderful education you gave me, plus the lunch, the Christmas gift, the CD's - I learned a lot about life just being near both of you for the day. This world is a better place because of people like you - I can't say enough nice things about you both. I am proud to know both of you."

Coastal Vacations has been a leading home business for the last 9 years, but only recently did it see a substantial increase in new members due to the 4.9 trillon dollar travel industry boom. Baby boomers are seeking ways of enjoying their golden years as more and more of them are retiring and looking for ways of travelling the world while continuing to generate a substantial income from wherever in the world they may be.

These Baby Boomers have caused a veritable business explosion in the Travel Industry, and Coastal Vacations is expanding at a rapid rate. The internet has also contributed to the expansion of both the home business arena in general and the Coastal Vacations business in particular, as people can now use modern technologies such as mobile wifi hotspots at Starbucks to check their email on high speed connections, or even their blackberries to learn about new hits on their websites and new prospects for their business.

Every day, more new systems are being developed to help baby boomers be productive as they travel worldwide using discounted vacation packages to save money and advertising systems like google's adwords to develop new contacts.

Dick Reimer of British Columbia, Canada had this to say about working with the Coastal Vacations team, "I have had so much fun learning from Karl and the money has been great too. I just quit my job at Walmart, because I made more money last month in Coastal than I had made all last year working as a junior manager at Walmart. My wife was thrilled, she even got to go on a shopping spree!"

Karl Jacobsen has offered these Live trainings for Coastal before and says, "We really enjoy the brainstorming that goes on, and the comaraderie that builds as a result of these events." Meals are complimentary and there will be ample time to enjoy the beach and surf in the Gulf of Mexico also. These are really lifestyle events that allow individuals interested in money and travel to connect from a business perspective and also to spend a little R&R time resting and recuperating.

The event is open to qualified individuals who pre-register. Seating is limited so contact the Coastal Seminar website listed or call the toll free number right away. Southwest Airlines has some excellent deals for people flying in from all around the country into Harlingen airport in Texas. There will be a reception on Friday, February 4th evening at poolside and then the main event will begin at 10am on Saturday February 5th. Lunch will be served to all participants and then leaders will be invited back for some advanced training in the afternoon. Guests will also receive a voucher for a 3 day 2 night Disney World vacation, as an extra bonus. By 5pm Saturday, February 5th the Team will contact the Red Cross with its group pledge and it's expected to be a very significant one. A recent attendee at Karl Jacobsen's last Live seminar in Naples, Florida, Mr. Paul Hoene had this to say about the event, "Karl went way beyond what was required in terms of offering us quality training and first class hospitality. I feel very supported being on his team and I recommend anyone who has not been to one of his events, to certainly come!" Learn more about these events by visiting the website or calling the toll free number listed.
