Readers of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine are now offered yet another excellent family resource. The magazine recently introduced a new department called “The Natural Schoolhouse”. This new column helps readers learn about herbs, homeopathic remedies, alternative medicine and healthy diet and lifestyles. Judging from the enthusiastic responses from readers, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has hit upon a high interest topic and will be developing the “Natural Schoolhouse” section further.

Melonie K. Murray, Director of Public Relations, stated, “Like many homeschool moms, I am constantly looking for ways to improve the health and general well-being of my family. The modern world we live in has become so processed, preserved and pre-packaged that it’s hard to know what living ‘naturally’ is like.” Families have been looking for this information and are pleased to have it included with the magazine that they already love and trust so much.

The Fall 2005 issue includes an article in which Rebekah Anast explains the calming benefit of herbs. Martha Greene of Marmee's Kitchen also contributes by explaining how to use granola to include the wholesome benefit of grains by serving it with dairy products, nuts and seeds to become a complete protein. Just in time for the holiday season, Mrs. Greene includes recipes for creating granola gifts packaged in homemade gift bags or interesting glass jars. Summer 2005, the issue in which the new column made its debut, included an interview with Dianne Craft, MA, CNHP, and a list of vitamins and supplements to stock in the basic medicine cabinet.

Readers are invited to send their questions or comments about organic products, natural living and herbal remedies, as well as their stories about their journey along the path to “green” living. Companies in the natural living or health care markets may contact The Old Schoolhouse Magazine regarding inclusion in upcoming issues.
