Lifeclinic Collaborates with 3M Digital Signage to Bring Consumer Health Information and Advertising to Retail Pharmacies

Lifeclinic International, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of automated health testing kiosks, and 3M Digital Signage, today announced a strategic initiative to develop a digital advertising and health information network designed to provide consumers with relevant health and product information in a trusted setting: their local pharmacy.

Burtonsville, MD (PRWEB) August 6, 2007

Lifeclinic International, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of automated health testing kiosks, and 3M Digital Signage, today announced a strategic initiative to develop a digital advertising and health information network designed to provide consumers with relevant health and product information in a trusted setting: their local pharmacy.

Capitalizing on Lifeclinic's national retail pharmacy presence, participating pharmacies will be equipped with an Internet-connected Lifeclinic health station, usually complimented by a strategically placed LCD. These "information stations" will perform all the blood-pressure checks and health self-monitoring services currently provided by Lifeclinic systems, with the added benefit of synchronizing the user's health information with relevant product information.

3M Digital Signage software will enable Lifeclinic and its media production partners to schedule, distribute and play media-file playlists at multiple, identified store locations. The end result is delivery of a unified, targeted marketing message to the consumer at the point-of-interest and purchase.

"Our Lifeclinic health stations help drive consumer traffic to the pharmacy while simultaneously providing an extremely important service to the consumer, creating a win-win situation," says Lifeclinic Senior Vice President, Mike Cavotta. He adds, "We already have established valuable relationships with consumers who regularly use Lifeclinic blood pressure monitors to help them manage their blood pressure. Furthermore, creating new consumer buying opportunities is always a primary objective of retailers. We believe that by combining our automated health testing platform with 3M's state-of-the-art digital signage technology, we can successfully create such new buying opportunities within the pharmacy."

In addition to enabling Lifeclinic to deliver targeted messaging, 3M's robust monitoring capabilities will provide Lifeclinic access to proof-of-play data for its entire national network of health stations and digital signs.

"The great strength of combining 3M Digital Signage with Lifeclinic's core health monitoring capabilities is that it ensures delivery of messaging and information at the precise moment it will have the most impact and influence on an already highly receptive audience," said David Reynolds-Gooch, business manager, 3M Digital Signage. "Add the capability for product sponsors to receive proof that their message is being displayed, and you've got a perfect storm scenario in which all the players -- advertisers, pharmacies and consumers -- walk away winners."

Kentucky Health Care Partnership Launches Resource: Eases Nursing Facility Placement for Consumers and Hospitals

Kentucky Health Care Partnership Launches Resource: Eases Nursing Facility Placement for Consumers and Hospitals

Hospitals in the state of Kentucky now have an easier way to select long - term care facilities for patients based on the specific needs and wants of the patient. The Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities partnered with Total Living Choices, a web-based software company providing discharge / referral management services to hospitals, to help make patient placement easier. This new tool, called Care Finder-Pro, allows discharge planners at hospitals to search a database of long-term care facilities in the state of Kentucky and select the facility that best fits the patient's needs. This database helps narrow the selection of long-term care options at a time when patients and families are faced with difficult decisions.

Louisville, Ky. (PRWEB) December 8, 2008

Statewide Insurance Services, a subsidiary of the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF), has entered into an agreement with Total Living Choices, a web-based software company providing discharge/referral management services to hospitals. Their program Care Finder-Pro® provides patients, their families, and hospital discharge planners with tools to narrow and match patient quality of life needs with the appropriate long-term care facilities.

The web-based service will help hospitals to more easily and quickly provide placement to patients at discharge. Selecting care facilities based on specific patient quality of care and quality of life needs links everyone in the process: the hospital, the patient, their families and the post acute care provider. Care Finder-Pro will give hospital decision makers access to detailed information on care facilities throughout the state of Kentucky.

"This new relationship will aid hospitals and nursing facilities in providing effective support to families and seniors through the difficult process of facility selection and placement," said Ruby Jo Cummins Lubarsky, President of KAHCF. "The database helps to qualify the facilities for patients, based on criteria selected. Once a patient lists their needs and wants, facilities included in the database are searched and referrals are made. It's very streamlined and service-oriented."

Patients can search care providers under multiple factors, from basic living needs to financial arrangements to quality of life issues. "The survey we use to gather information from nursing facilities encompasses everything from pets to dietary preferences to languages," said Martin Conner, director sales and marketing, Southern Region, Total Living Choices. "Prior to this arrangement, a centralized database has not existed. This one-stop source provides speed and accuracy to the process. Patients and families in the state will be better served and have a better understanding of the care provisions available up front."

This agreement now opens the door for information on all Kentucky nursing care facilities to be easily accessible by consumers. "It's a win-win situation, with no costs involved to the nursing facilities and personal care homes," said Lubarsky. In addition, consumers can search for care facilities by a link on the KAHCF website (www. kahcf. org) to Total Living Choices programs Facility Finder and Care Interpreter.

"This is a worthy partnership," said Lubarsky. "The process of hospital discharge into a care facility becomes much more effective when patients can get a clear view of what a site offers. The decision becomes easier and more successful for everyone involved."

For hospitals and care facilities, Care Finder-Pro will make the discharge process go much more smoothly. In the past, hospitals working on discharged patient placement would have to make multiple phone calls to facilities. During this labor intensive process, matches were not always effective. A complete and specific view of the patient's needs and wants can be hard to communicate with past methods of information gathering.

"Every care facility should be in this system," said Lubarsky. "It helps everyone - hospitals, nursing facilities and most importantly the consumer. Not charging for participation should motivate nursing facilities to provide information, making a level playing field for all."

Working through Care Finder-Pro offers some additional value to members of KAHCF. While a facility does not have to be a member to participate in this complimentary database, members do receive additional benefits. "They can get reduced pricing on website and video preview development to highlight their facility for potential patients and hospitals to view," said Lubarsky. "In addition, the system can offer some other service enhancements."

About the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities

Established in 1954, the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF) is the trade association that represents proprietary and nonproprietary nursing facilities and personal care homes across the Commonwealth. One of the state affiliates of the American Health Care Association, KAHCF provides a wide variety of services to member facilities. In order to meet the growing needs of the membership, Statewide Insurance Services (SIS) was incorporated in 1992 as a subsidiary of KAHCF.

Sidestep Winter Dry Skin with Natural Preventative Skin Care

Sidestep Winter Dry Skin with Natural Preventative Skin Care

New shielding lotion technology relieves dry winter skin.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) October 18, 2006

There are many positive aspects to this time of the year -- the weather turns cooler, the leaves turn color and we look forward to the holiday season. But one bothersome aspect of winter weather is dry, itchy skin. According to the US National Library of Medicine dry itchy skin occurs more often in winter, when cold air outside and heated air inside cause low humidity. The skin loses moisture, may crack and peel or become irritated and inflamed, causing millions of Americans to suffer from dry skin (http://skinmdnatural. com/skin-care. html) conditions.

Starting an effective dry skin care (http://skinmdnatural. com/) routine in autumn can sidestep the disasters colder weather can wreak on the skin. New ingredients and technology have produced a shielding lotion that bonds with the skin and replaces the protective layer that locks the moisture in, keeping the skin supple and healthy.

Ordinary moisturizers try to make up for the moisture that our bodies lose by adding an external moisture source and coating the skin with creams, but this is not as effective as we would like. In fact, it could even have a detrimental long-term effect by sending the wrong message to the moisture production parts of the skin.

“When your skin gets dry and itchy in winter you know that the protective outer layer of skin has been stripped away,” says Dr Brian Zogg, a board-certified dermatologist with a practice in Albert Lea, Minnesota. “Artificial moisturizers in conventional creams and lotions can send a signal to the moisture producing parts of your skin that enough moisture is present. Your skin then makes less of the natural moisture needed to resolve a dry skin problem. With a shielding lotion you replace the outer layer and protect the natural oils and moisture in your skin, so it heals faster.”

Prepare your skin for the onslaught of winter by starting a natural skin care treatment now. Use a shielding lotion (http://www. skinmdnatural. com/how-it-works. html) like SkinMD Natural that bonds with your skin and replaces the protective layer, so that your skin retains its own oils and moisture. Skin MD Natural’s light, sheer formula uses a number of natural herbs, vitamins and extracts preventing dry skin care naturally.

Wound-Be-Gone® Clinical Evidence To Be Presented At The 2009 APMA Annual Scientific Meeting in Toronto, Canada

Wound-Be-Gone® Clinical Evidence To Be Presented At The 2009 APMA Annual Scientific Meeting in Toronto, Canada

Created by Czech Scientists, Wound-Be-Gone® is now the only over the counter treatment for chronic and acute wounds. The revolutionary new product features a patented technology that both speeds up the healing process and prevents scar formation.

Elk Grove Village, IL (PRWEB) July 29, 2009

Wake Pharma US (http://www. wakepharmaus. com) announced today that clinical evidence on the treatment of wounds using Wound-Be-Gone® will be presented at the National 2009 APMA Annual Scientific Meeting being held in Toronto, Canada July 30 - August 3, 2009. The clinical evidence and data will be presented in podium and with on poster on display during the meeting.

We still want the product Wound-Be-Gone® to be recognized by the physicians, nurses and all the other allied health practitioners who are on the front lines of wound care. With today's economic challenges, people are turning to over-the-counter products, stated Maggie Jankowski, COO of Wake Pharma US. She commented: "Since the launch of Wound-Be-Gone® in June 2008, we have accumulated clinical experience across all types of wounds. Our product is very unique and is, actually, the only over-the-counter product available on the market to effectively treat chronic wounds.

Kim Eldridge, RNFA, CFCN and certified wound nurse for many years stated, "Being the only Over the Counter product of its kind, Wound-Be-Gone® is a new avenue for the treatment of Acute and Chronic wounds in people of all ages. I have seen impressive results in different types of wounds ranging from venous ulcers, burns, post op surgical incisions and abrasions. The pain reduction and minimal scarring that this product offers is unbelievable."

Wound-Be-Gone® (http://www. woundbegone. com) is a novel product based on revolutionary technology in the healing of wounds. Based on a unique and patented principle, it is vastly different from current healing products. It has a wide range of uses with essentially no side effect profile or contraindication and contains no antibiotics or material of biological origin.

According to Dr. Richard M. Millis, clinical physiologist, medical educator and V. P. for Research & Development, Wound-Be-Gone® is a novel gel which contains polymer that absorbs excess fluids and, for the first time, removes the toxic free radicals which are responsible for destruction of all living tissues (and aging), thereby creating a protected environment for healing with minimal scarring.

Complications from chronic, complex non-healing wounds can be dire. Not only can they lead to infection and pain, they lead to depression and even limb amputation. Patients affected by these types of wounds often require additional help performing common daily tasks and face higher mortality rates. Wound-Be-Gone® is useful beyond simple wound care.

Literally millions of Americans seek relief each year as complex non-healing wounds are associated with diabetes, pressure ulcers, venous ulcers and non-healing postoperative wounds. Everyone needs access to the "best standard" of care to heal chronic wounds (http://www. woundbegone. com). The new over the counter product Wound-Be-Gone® promises to significantly reduce the overall costs for treating wounds, and restore quality of life.

For more information on Wound-Be-Gone® and its revolutionary wound healing properties, please visit http://www. woundbegone. com (http://www. woundbegone. com)

Company Granted Patent on Apparatus, Systems, and Methods for Gathering and Processing Wireless Biometric and Biomechanical Data

Patent relates to systems for wireless collection of body motion data from sensors attached to a body.

Laguna Niguel, CA (PRWEB) October 13, 2009 -–

Applied Technology Holdings, Inc., revealed today that the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted its patent on a system for the gathering and processing of biometric and biomechanical body motion data.

Jay Shears, CEO of Applied Technology Holdings, Inc. said, "The granted patent relates to low cost motion sensor technology attached to a body, and data storage and retrieval systems to collect body motion and biometric data wirelessly.” Shears commented, “Some industries that will immediately benefit from the company’s technology are Physical Rehabilitation and Home Patient care through Telemedicine. The healthcare industry is planning for telemedicine and remote collection of patient data for electronic health monitoring, to be used as a tool to reduce costs and improve efficiencies. The Applied Technology Holdings patent relates to technology that is an enabler to achieve those goals.” Demand for the MEMS sensors that enable this technology is booming, generating strong growth for players in this segment.

The patent comes at a time when only 9 percent of the nation's hospitals have electronic health records, according to a survey of nearly 3,000 hospitals. The survey, financed by the Federal government and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is the most definitive measure to date of the use of computerized patient records by hospitals.

Shears also commented that, “Our company focus is the protection of our Intellectual Property and the commercialization of a development platform of products for solution providers in growing market segments like: the remote collection of data for patient monitoring, physical rehabilitation and strength conditioning, gaming, military, and aviation."

Scientific Skin Care Makes Stars' Skin Glow On The Small Screen

Scientific Skin Care Makes Stars' Skin Glow On The Small Screen

P8N8 Skincare becoming a staple of TV makeup artists.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 17, 2006

Whether they are catching card counters in sin city, shielding the nation from terrorists or helping spirits resolve unfinished business on earth, they are all doing it with glowing skin. Stars of the hit TV shows Las Vegas, 24 and Ghost Whisperer may not have a lot in common, but they all share radiant complexions thanks to P8N8 skincare products.

P8N8 Skincare, which takes its name from the eight protons and eight neutrons that make up oxygen, is quickly becoming a must-have among stars of the small screen.

It uses a unique Bio EnergizedTM technology to deliver the oxygen essential for healthy, glowing skin, along with Japanese green tea and other powerful, age-defying components to make skin look radiant onscreen and off.

What happens in Vegas...

...no longer stays in Vegas. The Sin City secret to skin care is out. Makeup artists Sharon Helgestad and Pam Phillips use P8N8 to make the glamorous girls of Las Vegas glow in the fast-paced, sexy world of high stakes casinos. Playing with the high rollers may be stressful, but you won’t see dull skin or a blemish on Molly Sims, Nikki Cox or Vanessa Marcil, thanks to P8N8 products. The women think the Multi-Vita Complex is “fabulous,” and keep coming back for the Sensitive Skin Serum, Multi-Vita Gel Toner and Multi-Vita Professional Cleanser that “make (their) skin feel great!”

The makeup artists also rave about the P8N8 Multi Vita Peptide Complex powders, which come in a rainbow of stunning shades that reflect light and illuminate the face, proclaiming them “perfect for casino scenes”. In fact, the Peptides have become must-haves among those taking care of business everywhere from Sin City to Purgatory…

Celestial beauty

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aisha Tyler may be blessed with heavenly looks to begin with, but their celestial glow on Ghost Whisperer comes from an earthly source -- P8N8 Multi Vita Peptide Complex powders. Makeup artist Julie Socash uses the multi-purpose products as eye, lip, cheek (and even nail) color, either wet for a glamorous metallic sheen, or gently blended into the skin for a healthy daytime glow.

And, if they’ve had a long day on the set, Jennifer and Aisha don’t need to worry about falling right into bed without tending to their face. The 100% pure mineral-based products contain no chemicals or preservatives, making them healthy enough to sleep in, and the skin restorative ingredients provide an intensive moisture treatment overnight.

All in a days work

Thwarting terrorist attacks, train crashes and assassination attempts is enough to cause more than a few fine lines and wrinkles, so the cast of 24 counts on P8N8 products, like Multi Vita Professional Cleanser Cleansing Gel, Multi Vita Complex 1 Cream, and Multi Vita Shock Treatment to combat skin damage. Make up artist Dee Mansano uses the Multi Vita formulas on all 10 cast members, including Kiefer Sutherland, Jean Smart and Kim Raver, to gently melt away debris, toxins and make-up while nourishing, moisturizing and protecting the skin.

Even for those of us without a hit TV show

P8N8 blends the finest of all-natural ingredients in very complex and powerful formulations created by dermatologists and chemists specifically for aging and sun-damaged skin to lift, lighten and firm the skin leaving a more refined complexion and a healthy, youthful glow worthy of a close up. For more information, visit www. p8n8skincare. com.

P8N8 Bio Energized Oxygen, available in select European spas and salons, is now distributed in the United States exclusively through P8N8 Skincare USA. P8N8 products were developed by dermatologists for the purpose of treating aging and sun damaged skin and its related conditions. P8N8 stands apart with its Bio Energized technology that transports ingredients deep within the skin’s inner layers.

Tajikistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Acquiring medicines is difficult or impossible for ordinary citizens and, in some areas one drug dispensary may serve as many as 20,000 people. Further, Tajikistan has no modern pharmaceutical plants. Thanks to MediSend and Project HOPE, the shipment of anti-viral drugs donated by Marathon was delivered to the Minister of Health in Tajikistan for distribution throughout the country. Project HOPE has had a long-term presence in Tajikistan where the need for these medications is great.

“MediSend takes great pride in its relationships. We know that it often takes several organizations working together to realize these opportunities. Marathon and Project HOPE, with its dedication to high standards in the delivery of medical products, were invaluable partners in this project,” said Nick Hallack, President and CEO of MediSend International.

Marathon’s Medical Director Dr. Brian Linder added, “We’re pleased to see these supplies being put to use in Tajikistan where the medication is much needed. Marathon appreciates the efforts of MediSend, which was instrumental in bringing together the right partners to make this donation a success.”

MediSend and Marathon have a long-standing collaboration in delivering humanitarian and other social responsibility programs in developing countries. When Marathon contacted Nick Hallack with the offer of anti-viral medication, Hallack immediately called upon MediSend’s valued membership in the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD). Fellow PQMD member, Project HOPE, joined the undertaking to help facilitate the delivery to Tajikistan and manage the in-country distribution program.

“Project HOPE has delivered critically needed donated medicines and medical supplies to improve the health of underserved populations in Tajikistan over the past eight years,” said Patricia Bacuros Director, Gifts-In-Kind Development for Humanitarian Programs & Disaster Response for Project HOPE, “We are pleased to partner with MediSend and Marathon on this delivery, to help ensure the most impactful distribution of these lifesaving anti-viral medications.”

Strong working relationships and collaborations are indispensable, especially when working in developing countries. As a member of organizations such as The Clinton Global Initiative, PQMD and AAMI, MediSend has a history of building strong partnerships to maximize results for the countries in which it works.

“As a unique alliance of non-profit and corporate organizations committed to bringing measurable health impact to vulnerable and under-served people, we are pleased to have helped facilitate MediSend’s and Project HOPE’s collaboration on this donation to the people of Tajikistan,” says Lori Warrens, PQMD Executive Director.

AlphaRX ANNOUNCES RESULTS ON HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, NOVEL, TOPICAL NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FORMULATIONS

AlphaRX ANNOUNCES RESULTS ON HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, NOVEL, TOPICAL NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FORMULATIONS

AlphaRX ANNOUNCES RESULTS ON HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, NOVEL, TOPICAL NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FORMULATIONS

(PRWEB) May 16, 2002

AlphaRX ANNOUNCES RESULTS ON HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, NOVEL, TOPICAL NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FORMULATIONS

AlphaRx (ALRX:OTCBB) is pleased to announce data and results on its new topical drug delivery formulation, as compiled by AlphaRxÂ’s Chief Scientist Joseph Schwarz, Ph. D. and Dr. Peter Carlen, senior scientist with the Toronto Western Research Institute, neurologist with the Krembil Neuroscience Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital, and professor of medicine (neurology) at the University Of Toronto.

The experimental design was repeated and the results were consistently reproducible in comparing a number of formulations using AlphRxÂ’s drug delivery formulation with some well-known commercial topical anti-inflammatory creams. The data supported the conclusion that AlphaRxÂ’s new topical formulations possess enhanced anti-inflammatory activity when compared to well-known commercial brands currently in the market. The research was conducted in the laboratories of Dr. Carlen, under a Sponsored Research Agreement between NeuroProtection Inc. (NPI) and the University Health Network (UHN).

AlphaRx has engaged NeuroProtection Inc. in a Research and Consulting Agreement under which NPI is designing a pre-clinical development program and clinical development strategy for AlphaRxÂ’s proprietary drug delivery system. NPI is conducting in-vivo investigations of compounds for enhanced delivery for site inflammation, brain inflammation, aging and neuroprotection. Some of the research is implemented via NPIÂ’s Sponsored Research Agreement with the University Health Network. The investigational compounds include Alpha RxÂ’s proprietary BCD drug delivery system in combination with standard Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS). On-going work will include additional investigations with these compounds and with NeuroProtection Inc.Â’s proprietary MPCB neuro-protective agents.

The study demonstrated that AlphaRx’s new topical formulations, comprised of safe, well known delivery components, are stable, with low-irritancy, possess a high efficacy in the local delivery of biologically active compounds. Comparative anti-inflammatory activity of topical formulations included ARX cream (16% MeSal), Ben Gay™ “extraforte” cream (30% MeSal), Voltaren Emugel™, ARX cream (6-MC). The proprietary formulations can be readily manufactured with available industry-standard pharmaceutical equipment.

AlphaRx ‘s topical drug delivery formulation, utilizes natural and safe carrier components. This drug delivery vehicle significantly increases drug loading through a unique combination of polarity and hydrophobicity of the carrier components (US Patent pending). Additional refinements in this field by AlphaRx have resulted in the capability of formulating stable submicron emulsions without the use of high-pressure homogenizers (US Patent pending). Such “self-emulsifying” formulations containing Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) have been tested in non-infection, inflammatory animal models, in order to compare the relative activity of these drugs in traditional versus enhanced delivery vehicles. These in-vivo experiments have been carried out at the Toronto Western Hospital/University Health Network. The experimental protocol was peer reviewed and approved by the ethics review committee.

The experimental results are consistent and reproducible, supporting the suggestion that AlphaRx’s new topical formulations possess superior anti - inflammatory activity. For example, AlphaRx’s ARX cream with 16% Methylsalicylate produced a three-fold reduction in edema volume at peak activity, when compared to Pfizer’s well-known and popular BenGay™ “Extra Forte” OTC cream (30% Methylsalicylate). All AlphaRx compositions showed similar enhanced anti-inflammatory activity when compared to other test formulations.

*Data was prepared Q-1 2002.

About AlphaRx

AlphaRx is engaged in the development of novel formulations of drugs that are insoluble or poorly soluble in water. AlphaRx's broad product pipeline consists of carefully selected, currently marketed drugs, which, through the application of its proprietary BCD drug delivery technology, offer improved medical benefits over existing products with a strong commercial potential.

Home Alone? RepairClinic says: Don’t Leave your Appliances Stranded While on Vacation

According to the appliance repair experts at RepairClinic, also known as RepairGurus, when you go on vacation, it’s generally a good idea to have a friend or neighbor keep an eye on your home while you’re away. Nothing ruins a wonderful, just-vacationed feeling than the sight of appliance disaster just inside the door of your home.

Canton, MI (Vocus) August 4, 2010

According to the appliance repair experts at RepairClinic (http://www. repairclinic. com/), also known as RepairGurus, when you go on vacation, it’s generally a good idea to have a friend or neighbor keep an eye on your home while you’re away. Most think of theft, fire, or other household problems as the greatest risk, but many homeowners have had the unexpected surprise of finding water leaking from a broken hose, or spoiled food in their fridge when they return from their vacation. Nothing ruins a wonderful, just-vacationed feeling than the sight of appliance disaster just inside the door of your home.

When it comes to appliance (http://www. repairclinic. com/RepairHelp/RepairHelp. aspx) vacation disasters, there are a few potential scenarios that can occur, making the homecoming a little more “exciting” than you might like:

Water leaks from a refrigerator or freezer onto the floor.  Refrigerator stops running—food thaws and spoils.  Dryer fire.  Washing machine line busted—water through the floor and/or ceiling.  Freezer thaw—food and ice melt, forming a puddle on the floor.

The solution: don’t wait until something goes wrong to give your appliances some attention. Here are some simple preventive steps you can take to help avoid vacation appliance disasters:

1. Carefully pull your fridge out from the wall (using the Glide n Guard floor protector (http://www. repairclinic. com/SSPartDetail. aspx? PartID=12914&Acc=1&PPStack=1) to prevent scratches and gouges); then, check the water lines to be sure they aren’t loose, that they are securely connected, both at the water source and at the fridge.

2. Regularly clean your dryer lint screen after each load and check the vent behind the lint screen for lint buildup—use the vacuum cleaner attachment from repairclinic. com to remove excess lint.

3. Keep the fridge condenser clean by removing lint, hair and other debris using the condenser brush (http://www. repairclinic. com/SSPartDetail. aspx? PartID=12859&Acc=1&PPStack=1), to keep your fridge running efficiently.

4. Check the water hoses on your washing machine for cracks, blisters, corroded fittings, leaks or other signs of stress. If any of these conditions exist, replace the rubber hoses. For even more peace of mind, simply replace old rubber hoses with more durable stainless steel hoses (http://www. repairclinic. com/SSPartDetail. aspx? PartID=1472585&Acc=1&PPStack=1), built to last much longer.

5. Monitor the temperature in your fridge on a regular basis. Keep a thermometer (http://www. repairclinic. com/SSPartDetail. aspx? PartID=903650&Acc=1&PPStack=1) in your refrigerator and monitor the temperature on a regular basis so you will be able to see if the temperature is dropping before disaster occurs.

Summer is a good time to do some general appliance maintenance, before school starts, when families are very busy. “Even if your appliances seem to be working fine, a little preventive maintenance is always a good idea” says Chris Hall, President, Repairclinic, and former appliance repairman. He recommends that you give your appliances routine checkups, just like you take your children to the doctor for their annual health exam. “It can save you a lot of money and headaches later, if you do the preventive work up-front,” says Hall. “The appliance maintenance calendar (http://www. repairclinic. com/0097.asp) on the RepairClinic website is a great help to get you started.”

New York Author Publishes New Book

Meyer presents real, recent data for twenty nations, pertaining to environment, finance, and health, among other concerns.

New York, NY (Vocus) November 12, 2010

PUBLIC GOODS, PRIVATE GOODS: the merging in global space, a new book by Annette Meyer, has been released by RoseDog Books.

Global space can hardly contain the infinite volume of activities and pastimes that nations and people in them want to undertake, particularly when everyone demands that, whether it is goods or services, the provision should both be of the finest quality and at a reasonable price.

To add to the difficulties involved in achieving such goals, new obstacles arrive daily. Goals may be conflicting, nations may have different real and financial priorities, and individuals and institutions may impose on each other in unacceptable ways.

Public Goods, Private Goods: The Merging in Global Space confronts some of the basic issues raised by a bevy of economists and informed observers. It presents real, recent data for twenty nations, pertaining to environment, finance, and health, among other concerns. Afterward, it furnishes suggestions offered by economists, area specialists, and the author in an effort to smooth the passage to global reconciliation.

In addition to Public Goods, Private Goods: The Merging in Global Space, Annette Meyer has written several other books that investigate the physical and financial economic properties of modern national societies. In the process of development, Meyer has worked in the arts, business, and academic fields. Meyer is proud to be Professor Emeritus of the College of New Jersey, and former Adjunct Professor of Economics at Hunter College of the City University of New York.

PUBLIC GOODS, PRIVATE GOODS: the merging in global space is a 148-page paperback with a retail price of $18.00. Finnish Nanotechnology Sector Growing Fast, According to Latest Research From Tekes

Finnish Nanotechnology Sector Growing Fast, According to Latest Research From Tekes

The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation today announced its latest research that shows impressive growth for the Finnish nanotechnology sector. The number of Finnish companies active in nanotechnology has more than doubled in just two years. Development has been seen in all of the key sectors of the Finnish economy, from electronics to forest products.

Helsinki, Finland (PRWEB) March 28, 2007

Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, today announced its latest research that shows impressive growth for the Finnish nanotechnology sector. The number of Finnish companies active in nanotechnology has more than doubled from 61 to 134 in just two years. Over 40 of these companies already have commercial products based on nanotechnology. Development has been seen in all of the key sectors of the Finnish economy, from electronics to forest products. The main factor behind the increase in activity is Finland's National Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Programme, FinNano.

These impressive results were uncovered by the "Nanotechnology in Finnish Industry" survey, published at the 2nd Annual Seminar of the FinNano programme. The biannual survey studies the evolution of the Finnish Nanotechnology scene in the period 2004-2006. Over 200 firms were surveyed for the study by Spinverse Consulting to identify companies with commercial products, research activities or a defined nanotechnology strategy.

The commercial products on the market cover a full range of applications, from industrial equipment to consumer products. The latter include suits from Turo Tailor, which are made using a nanocoated textile that repels water, and ski wax developed by Startex. Sporting equipment has also been impacted by nanotechnology, with an example being high-performance skis by Atomic.

Highly successful industrial nanotechnology applications include Finland's prominent atomic layer deposition (ALD) cluster. ALD technology enables coatings the thickness of a few atoms to be applied to materials to alter or improve their performance. The technology, originally developed in Finland almost 30 years ago, is now generating multi-million dollar markets worldwide with applications ranging from electronics components to flat panel displays.

Encouragingly, the companies surveyed reported a comprehensive pipeline of research activities, the results of which are expected to come to market in one to three years. Until now, the impact of nanotechnology has been greatest in the materials sector, but it is expected next in electronics and life sciences. Examples of future applications being researched include functional paints and coatings, building materials, active packaging, sensors and quantum-mechanical lasers.

Many challenges also lie ahead. Making the transition from small-scale prototypes to volume production is far from straightforward; finding commercially viable applications for advanced technology can be difficult; and problems can arise from funding shortages at key stages of development. In the fast pace of development, it is also very important to take into account issues of environment, health, safety and corporate responsibility.

The main factor behind the recent increase in company activity is the national FinNano program, which covers funding and support activities from Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation as well as from the Academy of Finland. Tekes' funding, in particular, is directed to innovative projects that address clear commercial needs.

Many of these innovative Finnish companies will be present at the FinNano Annual Seminar that outlines the Finnish nanotechnology strategy and presents interesting examples of ongoing research and industrial projects. The FinNano Annual Seminar precedes Nanotech Northern Europe 2007, the region's largest nanotechnology event. More information: http://www. nanotech. net (http://www. nanotech. net)

Progressive Political Site Offers Angry Citizens Humorous Outlet

Progressive Political Site Offers Angry Citizens Humorous Outlet

Press release to announce the launch of the Fight The Right Web site.

Broomfield, CO (PRWEB) August 2, 2006

As the Bush Administration reaches new lows in approval polls, the Iraq War continues to spiral out of control, and social issues, such as immigration and health care, become increasing focal points to American citizens, a decidedly liberal website has undertaken the task of educating the time constrained. The recently launched website for Fight The Right offers a free service to politically conscious people who have limited time, but possess a desire to understand the issues that affect their daily lives. Articles from both popular and obscure news organizations from around the world promise to give the reader a global perspective on relevant issues including: Foreign Policy, Domestic Policy, The Environment, Morality, World Events, and Homeland Security.

Fight The Right also provides a much needed break from the seriousness of current world events and domestic issues by publishing a Satire From The Left column that is witty and sarcastic, and sure to confuse the typical conservative reader. In Open Letters to our Leaders, those looking to channel their negative feelings for the government into positive activism for change can take the lead from any number of issues presented in clear and concise terms. In addition, the many anti-Bush bumper stickers available for purchase ($3.99) will provide a humorous spin on Bush blunders. Just ask Milo, a Border Collie and the Fight The Right mascot, who apparently is ‘smarter than the President.’

ABOUT Fight The Right - Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, Fight The Right is a new voice in the battle for responsible, liberal thinking while occasionally provoking a smile. Current and relevant news fuels left-leaning bumper stickers, news items, and satire that keep people talking about the issues.

Indian Institute of Complementary Medicine (IICM) is a premier institute recognized by the Government of India. Edison, NJ (PRWEB) January 22, 2011

Gopinathan Nair, Founding Chairman and Managing Director of Santhigram Group of Companies, was awarded “Honorary Doctorate” by the Indian Institute of Complementary Medicine (IICM). This prestigious award was given to him, in recognition of the outstanding contribution he made in promoting Ayurveda nationally and internationally. Indian Institute of Complementary Medicine (IICM) is a premier institute recognized by the Government of India. Dr. Gopinathan is already recipient of awards like “Super Achiever Award” from Bharat Nirman in 2008 and “Pride of the Country” award in the year 2000. He is instrumental in establishing three Ayurvedic Hospitals in the capital city, New Delhi in India, named “Santhigram Kerala Ayurvedic Hospital”. These well established facilities provide age old Ayurvedic therapies to local and international patients suffering from various chronic ailments for the last 15 years. Under his leadership these centers have provided quality services and the company became the first Ayurvedic service provider to receive ISO 9001:2000 certification in India.

Dr. Gopinathan is instrumental in expanding operations of Santhigram Ayurvedic Company internationally. The company originally expanded its operations to UK, seven years back, by launching two Centers in London. The success story of the UK Centers, encouraged him to further expand the Ayurvedic business to the United States. The US operations was launched through a subsidiary company in 2006 (Santhigram Kerala Ayurvedic Co. of US Inc.) and as of today the company has established five Ayurvedic Centers in the United States, 4 in New Jersey and 1 in Houston, Texas. In order to provide quality services to its ever-growing clients in US, Mr. Gopinathan was recently joined by his spouse Dr. Ambika Nair, who has over 25 years of experience in Holistic Healthcare and many awards to her credit. She will be assisted by a team of highly qualified and experienced Ayurvedic professionals.

Mr. Gopinathan’s perseverance has created history for Ayurveda in United States and his efforts have come a long way in establishing authentic Ayurvedic Panchakarma Centers in US providing Kerala specific ayurvedic & panchakarma therapies. These age old alternative medicine therapies which are free from side-effects, offer therapies for managing various chronic ailments like Spondylitis, Slip Disc / Back Ache, Arthritis, Joint Pains, Muscle pains, Sprains, Frozen Shoulder, Obesity, Migraine, Sinusitis, Hypertension, Allergic Rhinitis, Asthma, Hemiplegia, Psychosomatic disorders due to stress & strain, depression, insomnia, skin diseases like Psoriasis, Eczema etc.

Ayurveda, the knowledge of life and longevity, is the oldest, most comprehensive scientific discipline, a comprehensive health care system that was preached, practiced and documented in the ancient times by omniscient sages. This knowledge was revealed to them in their spiritual pursuits. Closely associated with the Indian philosophy, the origin of this system can be traced to the Vedas, the earliest codified knowledge which deals with all aspects of the universe. The basic philosophy of Ayurveda is to make people aware of their life style, diet, exercise and mental activities to achieve a perfect balance in mind, body and the soul. Literally, it focuses on uninterrupted physical, mental and spiritual happiness and fulfillment. So, Ayurveda focuses on absolute perfect health and not disease. On the other hand, the modern medicine stresses only on the body and neglects the mind, senses and the soul. Any infirmity in the mind, senses and soul leads to illness in the Ayurvedic definition. Ayurvedic Panchakarma Therapy has methods to remove the toxins from the body and rejuvenate the body and mind. These procedures improve the physical and mental activity measurably. While modern medicine prescribes medicines which concentrate on maladies, Ayurveda focuses its main attention on health, its insistence on keeping the mind and spirit strong by orbiting the inherent vital strength with herbal remedies and natural invigorating methods.

In the Santhigram Kerala Ayurvedic health care centers, Ayurveda is the governing principle behind integrating treatments and developing specific life style management programs. Founded on the wholeness of mind, body and spirit, the art and science of Ayurveda is emerging as an important health care option in the Western countries. Holistic health is one of the trends of the modern world and complementary medicines is viewed by many as a solution to the rising incidence of chronic illness and diseases and spiraling health and medical care costs in the Western world. The trend towards alternative or complementary medicine particularly Ayurvedic medicine is catching up all over the world especially in the Western countries.

Mr. Gopinathan Nair has developed a niche business in alternative comprehensive health care. Considering the business opportunity in the US, he has ambitious plans for expansion through partnerships and franchise arrangements. His management experience and skills have helped Santhigram Ayurvedic group to grow into a multinational company today, serving the unmet needs of a large population of patients with chronic ailments around the world. In recognition of his outstanding contribution in promoting authentic, Ayurvedic therapies in India and abroad, he has now been honored by Indian Institute of Complementary Medicine (IICM).

NEPAD Council, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization of African professionals in the Diaspora, is hosting a reception and dinner event on Saturday, September 8 at 6 p. m at the South African Embassy in Washington DC. The event kicks off NEPAD Council's ICT awareness and fundraising activities. Proceeds from this activity will help support two of NEPAD Council's Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) initiatives; "Africa Broadband Communities" and "ICT Africa."

Ms. Amina Salum Ali, Ambassador of the African Union Mission to the USA and the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the USA will be the featured speakers. An overview of major African ICT infrastructure projects and the role of NEPAD Council will be presented.

"Africa Broadband Communities" is an initiative to foster rapid deployment of Broadband networks in Africa and shrink the digital divide between Africa and the rest of the world. The "Africa Broadband Community" fosters partnerships between local businesses, local governments, and service providers to initiate and rollout broadband networks in selected African communities. According to Dr. Jabulani Dhliwayo, NEPAD Council Senior VP and ICT Department Chair, "the successful implementation of our plan is expected to trigger 'copy cat' initiatives all over Africa; thereby accelerating broadband penetration in Africa." The first community to be connected through this initiative is a rural mining community in the Northern Province of South Africa. "NEPAD Council is teaming up with a local mine trust, community schools, the local government and local service providers to roll out a Fixed Wireless Broadband Access (FWBA) network to enable free high speed Internet access to community schools, community centers and computer workshops," said Dr. Dhliwayo.

"ICT Africa" is a series of NEPAD Council's continental conferences to share new ideas on ICT development in Africa, lessons learnt from other regions of the world, impact of policy on ICT development, ICT investment, regional projects and research and development. It is a forum for organizations to meet people working on similar projects and form collaborations and synergies. Stress Management Author Asks "Which Will Cost You More: The Recession or Stress?"

Stress Management Author Asks "Which Will Cost You More: The Recession or Stress?"

A new book "The Advanced Stress Management Training Guide" questions how much stress and fear are costing us individually and as a society. Among the concepts are the 'law of fairness' and 'the only true way to stress relief'. The book is freely available from the Author's website until publication later this year.

Ipswich, Suffolk (PRWEB) May 2, 2009

A new Stress Management Book (http://livewithoutconflict. com/stress-management/) suggests that we have a bigger crisis coming from stress, and it's consequential costs, than from the recession.

'Stress tax' is the term Stress Management Author, and Blogger, Rob McPhillips uses to refer to the personal cost of stress to individuals.

"It's a fair bet that you know how much you paid in taxes last year. You probably also know fairly closely how the recession has affected you financially. However you have probably never worked out how much you are paying in stress taxes," he begins.

Traditionally much research has been done on the effects of stress (http://livewithoutconflict. com/stress-management/effects-stress/) on Organisations. For example, one influential report by the Charity Mind, in 2005, estimated that as much as £100 billion was lost every year in output due to sickness, labour turnover and associated costs.

However McPhillips claims this is merely the tip of the iceberg;

"Research counts the expenses incurred by stress. What it misses are the lost opportunities, the days and hours working at a lower level of passion, enthusiasm and productivity. The human cost of fractured, less co-operative and rewarding relationships, the lost sense of meaning and purpose in our lives.

"If we knew we could achieve anything, life would be very different for all of us and for our society. When an innovative idea can change lives, start new businesses and revolutionise our society, the barrier to doing that, if you dig deep enough, is always rooted in stress or the fear of taking a risk.

"Fear and stress are the brakes on productive, effective and progressive performance. Hence the gap between what we could and what we do achieve is what we are paying in 'stress tax'. Not just in financial terms, but also in terms of relationships, health and every area that meaningfully affects us. These also have associated expenses for Society to bear."

The idea of reducing stress (http://livewithoutconflict. com/stress-management/reduce-stress-avoid-stress-tax/) taxes and some other interesting and controversial concepts such as the 'law of fairness', 'the value of losing' and what Rob McPhillips believes is 'the only true way to lasting stress relief' are covered in greater detail in his new book "The Advanced Stress Management Training Guide."

It is freely available for a short time at his website, before being published in print, later in the year. To read the book, for additional information, or to ask a question contact Rob McPhillips or visit livewithoutconflict. com (http://livewithoutconflict. com).
