Boomer Business Summit Leadership Award Winners Recognized

The 2008 recipients of the inaugural What's Next Boomer Business Summit Leadership Awards were announced at a dinner meeting preceding the day-long summit held at the Omni Shoreham Hotel on March 26.



"These winners all embody the boomer spirit of pushing the envelope, staying involved and forward thinking," said Mary Furlong, CEO of Mary Furlong & Associates and creator of the What's Next Boomer Business Summit, now in its fifth year. "Their work is changing the way government, non-profit organizations, the media, and technology companies are thinking about baby boomers and shaping the marketplace for new ideas and products to serve this important demographic."

The Honorable Dorcas R. Hardy

Leadership, Integrity and Service Award

Dorcas R. Hardy and Associates is a government relations and public policy firm specializing in health services, insurance, financial and associations. Hardy was U. S. Commissioner of Social Security from '86 - '89. She speaks and writes widely about domestic and international retirement financing issues and entitlement program reforms, and she co-authored a book on social security.

Hardy consults with seniors' organizations and public policy groups to promote redesign and modernization of the Social Security system.



Robert Blancato, MPA

Leadership, Integrity and Service Award

Robert Blancato is President of Matz, Blancato & Associates, Inc., a firm specializing in government affairs, association and coalition management, and advocacy services in Washington, D. C. He currently serves on the Policy Committee and Executive Committee of the 2005 White House Conference on aging. Blancato's career involves more than 30 years in public service in both the Congress and the Executive Branch.



John Erickson

Leadership and Entrepreneurship Award

Erickson, founder and CEO of Erickson Retirement Communities, launched Retirement Living TV's (RLTV) unique programming in September 2006. Erickson believes that RLTV will empower retired people by providing them with programming that is not only entertaining, but also inspiring and educational. In addition to RLTV, Erickson is the founder of The Erickson Tribune, a rapidly growing, monthly newspaper, which is read by more than six million people throughout the country.



Gail Kohn

Leadership and Innovation Award

Kohn is Executive Director of Capital Hill Village, a non-profit program that allows residents of Capital Hill to remain in their homes as they grow older. Capitol Hill Village opened its doors Oct. 1, 2007. Kohn, an aging services expert, is leading a strong marketing campaign to expand memberships and strengthen and enlarge membership. She has also implemented a campaign to encourage volunteerism in the community.



Walt Mossberg

Leadership and Technology Award

Mossberg writes two columns, and edits a third, for The Wall Street Journal. He also publishes periodic interviews for the Journal, and occasional blog posts on this site. With Kara Swisher, he co-produces and co-host D: All Things Digital, a major high-tech conference with interviewees

Such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and many other leading players in the tech and media industries. The gathering is considered one of the leading conferences focused on the convergence of tech and media industries.
