The International Association of Business Communicators' (IABC) Washington, D. C., chapter is proud to announce that Courtney Jill Sakai has been awarded its 2009 Pinnacle Award.

According to IABC Washington (http://www. iabcdc. org) President, Tomeka Rawlings, "The Pinnacle Award honors a single, senior-level communicator in our region who exemplifies the highest standards of professional excellence with a consistent record of achieving exceptional results in linking successful communications activities to his or her organization's or clients' goals, strategies and objectives.

"With 18 years of demonstrated success in designing and executing large-scale communication programs at the state, national and international levels, Sakai is particularly deserving of this award."

Sakai is currently the senior campaign director at Oceana, an international organization focused on ocean conservation. Having started her career in the political arena, over the past several years Sakai has effectively implemented communication campaigns that have advanced organizational and policy goals for a wide range or political, private, non-profit and public sector entities.

"It is an honor to be placed among such leaders and outstanding talent," said Sakai. "For nearly two decades, I have worked in politics and public affairs to try to make meaningful contributions in areas such as diversity, healthcare and conservation. It is personally rewarding to know that effective communications can truly make a difference."

IABC/Washington will present Sakai the 2009 Pinnacle Award at a reception and dinner on May 7, 2009, beginning at 6:00 p. m. at the Hilton Arlington. Gloria Rodriguez, the 2008 award winner, will be on hand to welcome Sakai to this impressive group of winners.
