The Bob Rivers Show joined forces with the charitable organization World Vision, and has received sponsorships from listeners that will help support 1645 children in the Ethiopian villages of Wonchi and Guraghe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of people lost to AIDS in Ethiopia is projected to reach 1.8 million by 2008 if current trends continue, leaving thousands of orphaned children to fend for themselves.



“At $35 per child per month ($420 a year), this amounts to $420,000.00 in support per year from our listeners. These funds will provide access to things like clean water, nutritious food, health care, education, agricultural assistance, and more. In addition to meeting urgent daily needs, the money raised will provide assistance like trained counselors who look after children, help them care for sick parents, and promote sustaining values. Researchers Document 25 Percent Drop in Community Infection Rate During City-wide Hand Hygiene Intervention

An unprecedented public health initiative has demonstrated the potential of hand hygiene awareness and compliance to reduce the spread of illness and related healthcare costs in a community. The study further demonstrated the power of public-private partnerships in tackling intractable health issues, specifically both Community and Healthcare Acquired Infections.

(PDI), today announced results of the "My Healthy Arkansas Initiative," a multi-faceted program conducted in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This program aimed at decreasing healthcare costs by reducing the levels of community-acquired infection, specifically Staph infections. The program also focused on raising awareness of hand hygiene through educational programs that trained more than 10,500 people on the importance of hand hygiene and the correct use of alcohol-based hand wipes. At the conclusion of the study, researchers confirmed a 25 percent reduction in the incidence of skin and skin structure infections presenting to the hospital emergency department compared to the beginning of the study. The most common isolate from the wound cultures was Methicillin Resistant Staphyloccous aureus (MRSA). Preliminary findings for the study were presented at the annual Infectious Diseases Society of America Conference on October 23, 2010 by lead researcher, Dr. Carl Abraham, Department of Epidemiology, St. Bernards Medical Center.



"Prevention efforts play a significant role in cutting healthcare costs in Arkansas and across the United States," Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe said. "Exploring partnerships, like this one between Jonesboro and Nice-Pak/PDI, helps find new ways to reduce both the transmission of disease and the need for treatment."



According to the U. S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), hand hygiene remains the single most important way to break the chain of infection. As the first of four annual Youth Breaks! expeditions, they'll have the time of their lives on this beautiful island in the Dutch Antilles. The climate of Curacao is very suitable for their condition as the water provides them with an ideal environment to develop their physical motor skills. And in the water they will be!



The Youth Breaks! program that Bordercross offers will introduce a different world to the youngsters, where in water, gravity is minimal and movement comes more easily. Under professional guidance, they will face the challenge of open water diving for the very first time!
