Northbrook, IL (PRWEB) September 3, 2010

Family Service: Prevention, Education and Counseling of Highland Park has announced that it has received a donation of $10,000 from the Home Instead Senior Care® Northbrook, Ill., office, which will be used to help subsidize senior care services in Lake and northern Cook Counties.

“We are delighted to receive this donation, which will allow us to be even more responsive to seniors’ needs, particularly in the areas of combating isolation,” said Jane McCarthy, Family Service development director.

Seniors are among three service areas included in the mission of Family Service, which also focuses on family therapy and guidance, and community education.

“This donation will go into our senior budget to cover services not funded by other programs,” McCarthy said. “For instance, a needs assessment of Latino Seniors living in Highwood last fall revealed that most had not seen a doctor for more than five years. Some of this money will provide advocacy services and transportation to take these seniors to public health clinics. We’ve also identified isolation as a problem for older adults throughout our service area,” McCarthy added. “So the funds will also help continue the social programs that we sponsor for the seniors such as “dia de la Candelaria,” an old Christian festival marking the end of the Christmas Season and the midpoint of winter. We are very grateful for this important donation, which will allow us to continue and expand our services to seniors.”

Family Service is benefiting from a corporate award presented to the Home Instead Senior Care Northbrook office, part of an international franchise chain that provides companionship and home care to older adults.

Northbrook Home Instead Senior Care Owners Fran and Steven Glassman received the award at the Home Instead Senior Care international convention in Omaha, Neb.

The Glassmans were among only three franchise offices to earn the exclusive Founder’s Award based on monthly production and outstanding service to their clients. The award grants $30,000 to the recipients to benefit projects or organizations in their communities. The Glassmans chose Family Service to receive a portion of the money with the remainder being distributed to other community agencies.
