Redesigned Yoga-Paws® Have Arrived, now Shipping for Holiday Gift Orders

Take your practice anywhere more comfortably and safely with the all-new “yoga mat you wear”

Cardiff By The Sea, CA (PRWEB) November 22, 2010

Cardiff-By-The-Sea, Calif. (PRWEB) November 22, 2010 -- The long-anticipated, completely redesigned Yoga-Paws® have arrived from the manufacturer and are now being shipped just in time for holiday gift orders. The compact, light-weight “mini-mats” are worn on the hands and feet to provide complete slip control so that yoga can be practiced anywhere comfortably and safely without a mat. Yoga-Paws make a great gift idea for anyone who practices traditional or Bikram yoga, particularly those who enjoy practicing yoga outdoors or while traveling.

In late-summer, it was announced that Yoga-Paws, the original “yoga mat you wear,” had been completely redesigned with new materials, function and styling aimed at enhancing the yoga experience. The manufacturer had been accepting pre-orders in anticipation of today’s announcement. The product is now widely available for sale and shipping through the Yoga-Paws website, as well as through the company’s network of authorized retailers.

Available in four sizes for adult men and women at an MSRP of $44.95, each set includes hand and foot mini-mats plus a convenient mesh carrying case. Discounts are available for yoga instructors with a valid Yoga Alliance Registry I. D.

First released in 2003, Yoga-Paws were immediately met with rave reviews from the international yoga and Pilates communities, as well as the news media. To date, tens of thousands of the original Yoga-Paws have been sold worldwide as people of all walks-of-life embrace the idea of “going mat-less” with their practice.

Recognizing the need for the product to evolve with the global yoga marketplace, the company has been compiling extensive feedback from fans and instructors for several years. Yoga-Paws has also invested in research and development to identify the latest state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing resources to fit the company’s growing needs. All of this has culminated in the all-new Yoga-Paws product, with a new design that builds upon the benefits of this initial product, with improvements made to every component to create the ultimate mat-less yoga experience.

New Yoga-Paws hand units feature eco-friendly TPE material with a curved, ergonomic design and external seams, similar to driving gloves, for added comfort and mobility. The backside of the hand units are made from a breathable mesh material to allow air circulation and a Velcro closure for an adjustable fit. Between the fingers, new “safety belt” straps keep the hand in proper position within the unit. A new moisture-absorbent, towel-like lining absorbs seven times its weight in moisture, allowing the practitioner to stay locked in place, feeling dry and comfortable.

The Yoga-Paws foot unit features a heal-strap to prevent movement during practice. The top of the foot is covered in a smooth, comfortable Lycra-spandex material that adjusts to provide a close, glove-like fit for various foot sizes. A recycled natural rubber material is provided for slip control on the bottom of the foot. The material is extremely durable and holds up to the pressure and friction of even the most rigorous yoga practices.

Many yoga practitioners enjoy the ability to connect more closely with the Earth during their practice by being able to practice outdoors without being encumbered by a mat. Yoga-Paws are ideal for those who like to practice yoga at the office or while traveling, with a lightweight and compact design that can easily be slipped into a purse or carry-on bag for impromptu practices anywhere.

Bikram Yoga, Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga and Power Yoga all include strong movements that create a lot of heat in the body, resulting in excessive perspiration that can pose a falling risk. Yoga-Paws can be used alone or in conjunction with a traditional or Bikram yoga mat for practitioners who are prone to sweating or who have trouble sticking to their mat during practice.

Yoga instructors enjoy greater freedom and flexibility with Yoga-Paws by being able to move around a class and demonstrate poses on demand without having to worry about slipping.

With the launch of the new Yoga-Paws product, the company is in expansion mode and is currently building up its distributor network nationwide. Retailers, health clubs, fitness studios, pharmacies, medical and chiropractic offices, and others interested in carrying the Yoga-Paws product line are asked to contact Jamie Getzwiller, Yoga-Paws LLC president/CEO, at jamieg(at)yogapaws(dot)com or (760) 434-3970 for more information, including customized pricing plans.

Yoga-Paws® is a registered trademark of Yoga-Paws, LLC. Products are designed and marketed from the company’s headquarters in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif., and manufactured in Taiwan and China. The product was first introduced in 2003, with a complete redesigned product launched in 2010. The product has been featured in Shape Magazine (as an Editor’s Choice Award), as well as Prevention, Real Simple, Marie-Claire, New York Times, Washington Post, Fitness and many others. Talyst Demonstrates InSiteRx Remote Dispensing At ASCP Annual Meeting

Talyst Demonstrates InSiteRx Remote Dispensing At ASCP Annual Meeting

Technology Better Positions Pharmacies to Help Long-Term Care Facilities Improve Quality of Care

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) November 10, 2010

ASCP Annual Meeting and Exhibition – Talyst Inc. will demonstrate its InSiteRx™ Remote Dispensing System (InSiteRx) as an exhibitor this week at the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. InSiteRx is placed at long-term care facilities and packages residents’ medication doses automatically, freeing nurses to spend more time on the floor with residents. The remote dispensing model is an option for pharmacies transitioning to uniform dispensing models such as weekly, daily, or automated dose dispensing as required by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Developed on a powerful foundation of hardware and pharmacy automation software, InSiteRx distributes medications in patient-specific multi-dose packages, right before a medication pass, reducing opportunity for error and virtually eliminating medication waste. The technology also dramatically cuts time nurses otherwise spend on mundane medication and administrative tasks. Creating satisfied nurses and facilities.

“Any opportunity we have to shift our efforts from busy work to focus on our residents – whether it’s by improving the actual quality of care we give them or just quality time we get to spend with them – we are grateful,” said Robyn Kline, LPN for Milner Community Health Care. “Talyst has given us back lost time.”

Talyst supports its partner pharmacies nationwide by successfully positioning them to grow their business and help their LTC customers improve quality of care by providing them with exciting, proven pharmacy automation technology. As one of the first medication management systems designed around the specific needs of LTC nurses and residents, the InSiteRx remote dispensing model enables pharmacist-approved, on-demand medication dispensing right at the facility. Remote dispensing is the least labor intensive short-cycle dispensing solution for pharmacies. It is the most favorable options for LTC facilities. Talyst is equipped to support all types of dispensing models, including central fill models, as they have done for several years.

“Our commitment to our customers – the pharmacists – and our continued focus on differentiation in patient safety, innovation and quality of care, has earned us the opportunity to service many leading healthcare organizations,” said Carla Corkern, Talyst CEO. “We want to make the transition to adopting the necessary technologies to comply with the shortened dispensing requirements as seamless and easy as possible.”

For more information on how to leverage remote dispensing, eliminate medication waste, reduce costs and improve patient safety in long-term care, please visit: http://www. talyst. com/insiterx

Birla Sun Life Insurance - Second Among Private Life Insurers in India

Birla Sun Life Insurance - Second Among Private Life Insurers in India

Birla Sun Life Insurance retains the number 2 position amongst private life insurers based on New Business Premiums with 10% credit for Single Premiums

(PRWEB) June 16, 2005

Birla Sun Life Insurance Company Limited (BSLI) continues to retain its number 2 position amongst private life insurers based on annualized new business premiums with 10% credit for single premiums. Since its inception BSLI has been reporting its new business premiums in accordance with this international practice of measuring premiums on an anuualised basis with only 10% credit for single premiums.

Says Mr. Peter Akers, COO, BSLI, "Across the world life insurers report their new business premiums for any year taking only 10% credit for single premiums. This ensures that appropriate importance is given to different types of business." He further added, "Life Insurance is a long term business and the longevity of the business depends on the regularity of the premium inflows. It is important for the healthy development of a life insurance company that there should be an optimal mix of regular premiums and single premiums".

The international practice is to report premiums on an annualized basis. The reason for this is that in case of reporting of premiums on modal (cash receipt) basis the premium figures will be affected by the different modes of payment. If an annualised basis were not used then companies writing monthly premium policies would under report their new business premiums during some periods compared to those companies writing annual premium policies. Similarly the premium figures could be distorted for insurers writing disproportionate amounts of single premiums. This in the Indian context can be very pronounced since large portions of sales happen in the last quarter of the financial year. Thus while all non annual (monthly, quarterly, half yearly etc.) premiums are measured on an annualized basis, only 10% of single premiums are measured.

3M RFID-Based Underground Marking System Chosen for Shanghai World Exposition Site: Shanghai Pudong Gas Installing Dynatel 'Marker Balls' For Tracking of Buried Infrastructure for 2010 Event

3M RFID-Based Underground Marking System Chosen for Shanghai World Exposition Site: Shanghai Pudong Gas Installing Dynatel 'Marker Balls' For Tracking of Buried Infrastructure for 2010 Event

When the 2010 World Exposition opens on a two-square-mile site in Shanghai, China's largest city, the Expo's vast network of underground gas pipes will be tracked predominantly by radio frequency identification (RFID) from 3M.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (PRWEB) March 6, 2008

As part of its site preparation activities, Shanghai Pudong Gas Company, Ltd. has begun installing 3M Dynatel Electronic Marking System (EMS) "marker balls" that use radio frequency identification (RFID) to transmit the identity and precise location of pipes, valves, bends, T-connectors and other components of buried infrastructure assets. The information is vital in avoiding excavation accidents and ensuring the efficient placement, relocation and management of those assets.

3M's EMS marker balls will be supplemented by a third-party's additional technologies, GIS (geographic information systems) and GPS (global positioning systems), to cover all of the complex needs of the huge project.

"It is great to see 3M track and trace technology play a significant role in preparing the infrastructure for this important international event," says Lem Amen, vice president for 3M Track and Trace Solutions. "Identifying underground assets is another entry on the growing list of practical applications for RFID-based track and trace solutions. We look forward to expanding our leadership position in this important emerging technology."

Corey Willson, business development manager for 3M Dynatel Locating and Marking, says Shanghai Pudong Gas chose the 3M Dynatel RFID EMS markers following a trial and evaluation of the technology on approximately one kilometer, or about five eighths of a mile, of buried polyethylene pipe.

"The engineers found that it was an accurate and efficient solution to the problems they had in the past with tracer wire, which was frequently lost," says Willson. "Ultimately, they decided that an infrastructure project of this enormous scope and complexity required a combination of EMS plus GIS and GPS for maximum speed and efficiency is managing underground assets."

The 2010 World Expo, scheduled for May through October, will take place along the banks of the Huangpu River in downtown Shanghai, between the Nanpu and Lupu bridges, an area comprising 5.53 square kilometers, or a little more than two square miles. The infrastructure will require 21 kilometers (about 13 miles) of mostly polyethylene pipe.

3M electronic marker systems are in use worldwide for tracking and managing buried assets. The water-resistant, polyethylene marker shells are impervious to minerals, chemicals and the temperature extremes normally found underground, and the markers use passive antennas with no internal power source to run down.

3M locators operate even in the presence of metal conduit or pipe, metallic conductors, fences, AC power lines and electronic markers of other utilities. All EMS markers are colour-coded to APWA standards for visual reference and each utility has its own specific frequency. EMS signals provide positive identification of each utility, thereby reducing the risk of accidentally locating and excavating other buried facilities.

Planning for Taxes Now Can Reap Benefits, Bills. com President Says

Planning for Taxes Now Can Reap Benefits, Bills. com President Says

Review 5 areas before Dec. 31 to plan income tax filing strategy

San Mateo, Calif. (PRWEB) January 5, 2009

An important, but often neglected, tax deadline is looming this month, said Bills. com president Ethan Ewing: Many actions must be taken before the end of this year, and still others require careful advance planning, to achieve hoped-for tax benefits when filing returns next year.

"Now is the time to take action," Ewing said. "To get the most from your tax planning, it is wise to take a step back and understand your tax position before the end of the calendar year."

Tax goal-setting is all the more important in a year like this one, which has presented a roller-coaster ride of unexpected financial activity. Here are a few ways to begin:

1) Get facts straight. Before the year is up, organize receipts and data. Spend a few minutes every week sorting and compiling information to lessen the burden come April.

2) Do a test run. Obtain a copy of last year's tax form and complete it with 2008 data to estimate this year's obligations. Those who purchase tax return software can use that. Or go to www. irs. gov and search for the form. Taxpayers can download a version of the form and fill it out.

3) Maximize deductions. Deductions come in a variety of flavors. Review your options, as well as previous years' tax returns, to understand which options might apply. Check with a tax advisor to make wise choices. Some items to consider:

Plan donations to nonprofit organizations of money, old or unneeded vehicles, clothing and household items, or stocks or other investments. Be sure to obtain any appraisals or valuations needed to list these contributions accurately, per IRS guidelines. Make any planned donations far enough in advance of Dec. 31 to ensure they are received and logged in time to count for 2008 deductions; it is easy to delay these till it is too late, or forget about them once the holidays start in earnest.  Check flexible spending account balances. If a balance remains unused, check whether you can make relevant purchases to use the money before you lose it. Consider purchasing medications or contact lenses, seeing the dentist, or investing in any other needed medical or dental care.  Check health insurance deductibles and medical expenditures. If an expensive procedure is on the horizon and you have reached or nearly reached the deductible, consider scheduling the procedure in 2008 rather than 2009 to maximize benefits. Similarly, medical and dental expenses that total more than 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income are usually tax deductible. If expenses are near that benchmark, consider receiving other needed care to be able to deduct some of these costs.  Check retirement contributions. Greater savings means greater deductions (to the extent regulations allow). And with stocks low, it could be a great time to invest for the future for some individuals.  Pay ahead on student loans. If you have not maxed out deductible student loan interest, paying extra on loans might provide for additional deductions. 4) Estimate how the economy will impact taxes. Check on investments to understand losses from any sales. If you are self-employed, clergy, or for other reasons must pay estimated income taxes, estimate earnings for 2009 to sketch out estimated tax payments for next year. Those who have lost work, for instance, might find total tax owed to be significantly less. "Figure out what you owe and when. Then you will not put yourself in a bind by paying too much in estimated taxes early in the year," Ewing cautioned.

5) Get help if you need it. "If you owe back taxes, or if you are afraid that you will not be able to meet your tax obligations for this year, seek help from tax debt resolution specialists who are skilled in dealing with the IRS," Ewing said. For more information, visit www. freedomtaxrelief. com.

"By the time the New Year arrives, you will already be halfway to the perennial resolution of being more organized when it comes to taxes," Ewing said. "Most importantly, you will know you are doing your best to maximize your cash flow during these trying financial times."

RPF will provide grants to qualified individuals to engage in a prescribed treatment plan, conduct research on the effectiveness of integrated screening and treatment, and collaborate with reputable mental health facilities, treatment centers and professionals; academic institutions; businesses; legislators; and community organizations to develop necessary educational programs.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) November 26, 2004

Recovery Path Foundation (RPF) is a 501c3 non-profit organization pioneering the way we view, provide health care to, and support those seeking recovery from co-occurring eating disorders and substance addiction.

RPF will provide grants to qualified individuals to engage in a prescribed treatment plan, conduct research on the effectiveness of integrated screening and treatment, and collaborate with reputable mental health facilities, treatment centers and professionals; academic institutions; businesses; legislators; and community organizations to develop necessary educational programs that answer the questions: What does co-occurring mean? What are the signs? How do we eliminate the shame? How do we remove the barriers to healthcare? How can the community help?

“We plan to award our first grant in early 2005. That is why, in addition to other fundraising activities and partnerships, we are starting an intensive 30-40-50 campaign,” says Carol Wheeler, Director of Development for Recovery Path Foundation. “We are asking for (30) $5000, (40) $1000, and (50) $500 donations over the next couple of months. Because eating disorders and substance abuse affects all members of society, directly and indirectly, investing in the prevention and treatment of these diseases can save us millions in the costs of the consequences. We need to make sure everyone knows that it will take us all to make a difference.”

According to a 2001 study commissioned by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, the Schneider Institute for Health Policy at Brandeis University found that there is a significant population battling substances - 18 million people with alcohol, 6 million with drugs and more than 5 million people have an eating disorder. For every $1 spent on preventative treatment, society can save between $4-$15 on the consequences.

Recovery Path Foundation is headquartered in Tampa, FL, and is already gaining national interest and encouragement from professionals in the healthcare field. For more information or to learn about how you can help, contact Recovery Path Foundation at 908 W Horatio Street, Suite A, Tampa, FL 33606 or 813-514-0350.

I-WeddingFavors. com Provides Advice on Buying Cheap Wedding Favors

I-WeddingFavors. com Provides Advice on Buying Cheap Wedding Favors

Mount Kisco, NY (PRWEB) September 11, 2005

According to I-WeddingFavors. com, planning a wedding of any size or budget can have numerous items that may be quite costly. In addition to planning for the dress and cake, a bride will want to spend thought considering the wedding favors for her guests. These small tokens of appreciation don't have to be expensive.

The practice of providing gifts to the guests of weddings began with European aristocrats who would endow guests with a fancy box called a bonboniere, named for the bonbons that it would protect. A bonboniere was crafted of crystal, porcelain or gold and could be encrusted with precious stones. Today these gifts for the guests, are known as wedding favors and is a tradition that has continued worldwide since the sixteenth century. A common belief of many cultures worldwide was, that the wedding couple was the focus of benevolent spirits who brought good luck. They believed that the same auspicious luck could be passed on to anything they touched. Betrothed couples would give small items to others in the village to share same good luck, that was expected to last a year.

I-WeddingFavors. com explains that, for more than a thousand years, almonds were a common gift given to the wedding couple, signifying the good wishes on their new life together. Brides would choose to pass on those same good wishes to others by preparing a small gift of the almonds, beautifully wrapped in elegant fabric. The custom in the Middle East is for the bride to make a gift of five almonds to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness. In the thirteenth century the trend of coating almonds in sugar became popular. Today the candy coated nuts are pastel adorned treats, known as Jordan almonds and remain a staple of many wedding celebrations. Jordan almonds provide one of the most common and inexpensive wedding favors when wrapped by delicate fabric to form small bundles tied with ribbon.

According to I-WeddingFavors. comWedding favors are typically presented to guests at the reception table, but can be distributed at the end of an informal gathering of coffee and cake. Brides have learned be very creative when it comes to selecting wedding favors that won't go over budget, and still honor all of her guests. The trends may vary each year, but the favors a bride selects are never out of fashion. Recent favorites have included flower seeds packaged in transparent, frosted envelopes with a small sentimental card attached with a ribbon commemorating the event. Decorative candles tied with a delicate ribbon are another great item to show sentiment and many can be purchased for about one dollar. Custom designed bookmarks with personalized sentiments can be cherished by guests for a lifetime. Today's desktop publishing software and quality papers greatly reduce the cost compared to the costs of using a professional printer.

The art of presenting wedding favors, provides unlimited possibilities for a couple to express gratitude to guests for being present at the event. Wedding favors serve a dual purpose of allowing the bride to express herself emotionally or creatively and can be chosen to provide décor to the reception table. The selection of inexpensive favors doesn't have to compromise quality or elegance. Simple placecards in small decorative frames or placecard holders will make a lasting gift selection. Frames and placecard holders can be made with a variety of materials from ceramic to stainless steel, for about a dollar each. Decorative candles, soaps and cookies are easily found in a variety of shapes from cupids to wedding cakes. Stylish bottle stoppers and bottle openers are available in a variety of shapes and crafted in frosted glass or stainless steel.

If a bride is open minded to a wide range of gift items when shopping, it's possible to find excellent prices on bulk purchases, or closeouts from retailers that specialize in wedding paraphernalia. Avoid having gifts engraved or personalized, as that will greatly drive the prices up. If it is desired to personalize an item, consider custom designed labels for chocolates, coffee or packages of tea assortments. Although prices for private labeled chocolate bars can be about $2.00 each, a bride or her friends can design and print unique labels with a home computer. Candy bars can be picked up at the local grocery for as little as a quarter each or bought in bulk from a club store.

The presentation of wedding favors is a time honored tradition and provides the bridegroom couple with an excellent means to share feelings with those they care about. Wedding favors continue to be one element of the wedding, where presentation and imagination have a greater value than the price of the item.

Seventh Chinese Medical Health Screening

Seventh Chinese Medical Health Screening

Whereas a Western medical health screening might check blood pressure and cholesterol, this Chinese medical health screening will check pulses, look at tongues, ears, and physiognomy, and conduct personal interviews. At the end of the screening, participants will leave with a personalized report full of diagnostic information that will serve as an enduring record of their current health status.

(PRWEB) April 30, 2005

On Sunday, May 22nd, 10am until 4pm practitioners of Chinese medicine from all over the San Francisco Bay Area will gather at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center, 200 N San Pedro Rd in San Rafael for the Seventh Annual Chinese Medical Health Screening.

The event is free, open to the general public, and is cosponsored by the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services. ($20 suggested donation)

The Screening, part of the Pine Street FoundationÂ’s Community Education program, is an event designed to engage the general public on integrative health issues; it empowers individuals with information and demonstrates the value of incorporating additional medical modalities into oneÂ’s pursuit of optimal health.

Chinese medicine is currently one of the most popular alternative health strategies in the United States, used by as many as 33% of adults. The annual Chinese Medical Health Screening allows the public – both those unfamiliar with Chinese Medicine and those that have used it for decades – to explore, experience, and deepen their understanding in a free, non-committal, and relaxed atmosphere.

At the Health Screening, there will be six diagnostic stations (pulse, tongue, ear, physiognomy, interview, and summary), each featuring a technique commonly used in Chinese medicine. These techniques, many of them also common in the Western clinical practice until relatively recently, offer individuals new insight and perspective into their health status.

PULSE: This delicate technique provides early indication of functional imbalances and is usually how a practitioner will make the first determination as to the site, cause, and condition of a patientÂ’s problem. Pulse is also used to observe the specific effects of treatment, which is helpful in the immediate follow-up of any therapeutic measures taken.

TONGUE: Examination of the tongue for signs of systemic disease was used in ancient Greece and persisted in Western medicine through the 19th Century. By observation of the tongue itself, the condition of the organs and the strength of a condition can be inferred.

EAR: In Chinese medicine, the ear is not isolated but rather closely linked to the condition of the other organs. When internal organs are injured or ailing, some abnormal phenomena will manifest at corresponding points on the ear.

PHYSIOGNOMY : Physiognomy can reveal to the practitioner that which cannot easily be seen by the patient; the eyes convey a personÂ’s spirit, facial coloration can be indicative of past experiences, the teeth tend to mirror the state of the kidneys, and the bridge of the nose, the pulsation of the nostrils, and the condition of the mucous membranes all reflect the state of the lungs, spleen, and stomach. Observations of facial expression, complexion, bearing, quality of voice, and alertness also provide valuable information to the practitioner.

INTERVIEW & SUMMARY: At the Interview station, information not found at the above diagnostic stations is gleaned (such as lifestyle and dietary trends), and at the Summary station, all the information from the other stations is distilled, integrated, and the prevailing pattern is revealed.

The Health Screening will also be featuring highly engaging workshops throughout the day on Nutrition, Yoga, Visualizations, and Qigong. These lectures, like the Screening, are free and open to the general public. Current workshop schedule with descriptions are available on our website.

New Resveratrol Data Shows Potential Boost for Heart Health

New Resveratrol Data Shows Potential Boost for Heart Health

A new study found resVida® Trans-resveratrol demonstrates potential cardiovascular health benefits in humans. Two separate analyses of one of the first studies involving human patients concluded that there was improved blood flow. A novel way to obtain resVida® is by eating a gourmet chocolate bar, the Resveratrol WineTime™ Bar.

Rancho Santa Fe, CA (PRWEB) December 15, 2009

Results of a new clinical study show for the first time that a special kind of resveratrol, the powerful antioxidant found in red wine, can improve heart health in humans.

Two separate analyses of one of the first studies involving human patients unveiled by University of South Australia researchers Narelle Berry, Ph. D., and Rachel Wong, B. S. concluded that resVida® trans-resveratrol prompted a positive effect on blood flow of the brachial artery, the artery that runs from the shoulder down to the elbow. Measuring the blood flow of this artery is considered a key indicator of vascular health.

ResVida® is a 99 percent pure form of trans-resveratrol, the antioxidant polyphenol found in red wine that has been widely acclaimed for its ability to help support cardiovascular health and overall healthy aging.

“The safety of resVida® trans-resveratrol has been proven in multiple studies. These new study results are so exciting because they are the first data that show resVida’s efficacy in humans,” said Dr. Berry. “The potential cardiovascular health benefits of resVida® shown by these data are among the first to exhibit health benefits in humans by any trans-resveratrol dietary ingredient.”

These study results were presented at the 4th International Conference on Polyphenols and Health (ICPH) in Yorkshire, England while Rachel Wong’s work was presented at the joint annual scientific meeting of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) and the Nutrition Society of New Zealand (NSNZ) in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

The study analyses came from a double-blind randomized cross over intervention involving 19 overweight or obese untreated hypertensive men and post-menopausal women. Some of the participants received a placebo; others were given single doses of 30, 90, or 270 mg of resVida® at weekly intervals. One hour after consumption of resveratrol, plasma levels and flow mediated dilation (FMD) were measured.

Both analyses found that supplementation with resveratrol had a significant effect on FMD with higher amounts of resveratrol yielding better results (increasing from 3.9 +/- 0.8% after placebo to 7.6 +/- 1.6% at 270 mg).

ResVida® is now available in a gourmet bar, aptly-called The Resveratrol WineTime™ Bar, developed by ResVez, Inc. of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The bar, a rich dark chocolate flavor harmonized with dates and almonds, also contains seven extra “super fruits.”

“We elected to incorporate resVida® as a primary source of resveratrol because it has the most extensive scientific and safety substantiation in the marketplace,” said Malcolm Nicholl, president and CEO of ResVez. “In addition we have included resveratrol from French red grapes so that we have the synergistic benefit of other polyphenols. This is a powerful combination—the best of all worlds.”

The WineTime Bar is high in fiber and low in calories, says Nicholl. “It is a true healthy indulgence. If you like chocolate and you like wine, you’ll love the WineTime Bar. It’s a gourmet treat.”

Reto Rieder, Sr. Marketing Manager at DSM Nutritional Products, the international company that developed resVida®, commented, “There is a lot of confusion right now among the public about the different types of trans-resveratrol dietary ingredients on the market. resVida® stands out because of its quality, reliability, traceability and safety. To better understand the healthy aging and health benefits of resVida® in humans, DSM has committed to a comprehensive research program with top-tier institutions.”

About ResVez Inc.:

ResVez, Inc. is a new company focused on the creation and development of a line of functional food bars that have health benefits—“bars for a reason.” The Resveratrol WINETIME™ Bar is the first to be launched.

A Season of Pride, A Decade of Advances, Generations of Knowledge

A Season of Pride, A Decade of Advances, Generations of Knowledge

After forty years of Pride Movements globally, do we need forty more before the Pride Movement transitions in a pride Celebration and the LGBT community considers itself equal? Technology may move us there twice as fast.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 9, 2010

As LGBT Pride organizers are planning for this years festivities, millions of anxious revelers are gearing up with their floats and costumes to attend the hundreds of parades and parties across the globe.

The movement has three main premises: that people should be proud of their sexual orientation and gender identity, that diversity is a gift, and that sexual orientation and gender identity are inherent and cannot be intentionally altered. The movement in all its glory, is to bring attention to the broader community that the LGBT taxpayers are a positive force in the world and wish to have the same rights as are afforded other taxpayers. Some might still refer to it as an equality march.

As millions march to gain their sense of self affirmation in the community, the aura of Pride should be elevated as the last 40 years since Stonewall (http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Stonewall_riots) have shown tremendous movement forward. From the days of secret knocks on gay club entrance doors to the todays omnipresent technology, yes the forty years have been a struggle, and a proud accomplishment.

What will the next forty years accomplish? Will the presence of technology expose this and other groups to the mainstream population to the point of equality? It is an interesting question, one that is already playing out on the internet.

Over the last 10 years, countless websites in the LGBT community have popped up. Most are the run of the mill dating or “match making” services, followed by adult entertainment sites, however they lack Information that can be great for a movement, data and statistics are the key indicator of its success. These subscriber based services are all the rage and endless new sites containing information for the community appear daily.

We can now see most all of the pride events around the globe on several sites, research health issues from the privacy of our homes and of course, contemplate Saturday nights date du jour. But where is the raw data that helps the movement? Will there ever be a Gay Census (http://gayrights. change. org/blog/view/make_sure_your_gay_relationship_is_counted_in_2010_census)? What will the day look like when a Gay Census would actually be answered accurately? That day doesn’t look much different that what we are seeing today. As millions of new websites come about over the next decade or two, we are bound to actually discover data that will become part of the mainstream thought process. The consensus being that once all questions are answered prejudice will diminish with knowledge, the LGBT movement like others in the past, will no longer be a movement, yet it will be a celebration.

We could estimate, with the help of various websites, what the membership rate is and combine all those numbers to estimate the total influence of the LGBT community, but those number would likely be skewed as the ever present “screen name” keeps true identities elusive. There is a website known as GoBetterTogether. com (http://www. gobettertogether. com) that may just inadvertently help with the age old numbers game. Within this site is something called Memory’s, it is a sort of crowd sourced segmented social network that allows thousands or millions of participants of an event to capture pictures, videos and conversations within a specific Memory. They even are talking about an App that would allow for on the fly video and picture submission from your phone. One doesn't need to imagine much what a Memory derived from millions of individuals could actually accomplish, from entertainment to education, a clever way to record history.

When asked about the purpose of the Memorys function, Founder, Jimmy Legg remarks, “This project has been in the works for five years and I created Memorys (http://www. gobettertogether. com/memory_detail. php? memory=Ng==) to offer a free service that allows Pride goers the ability capture the event from their perspective, and combined with hundreds of thousands of individual points of view at each event, a fun and festive record is created. This would be the most thorough insight into pride events globally.” Legg states, “ The ever increasing exposure to the events, will, over time, bring a much better understanding to the movement as well as the most comprehensive factual record of each years events for the world to enjoy”

With the current volume of online pages, the future seems bright for the LGBT plight. Resources abound for reference material and Pride events around the world grow each year. With the addition of GoBetterTogether. com’s Memory feature (http://www. gobettertogether. com/find_memory. php), these memories from the masses, in turn, educate the curious as to what the movement embodies and what events are truly about. Not to mention just some great video of the celeb performances.

Everyone is camera capable these days with our phones, and Apple just announced the Iphone 4 that allows users to edit video on their mobile device, so be sure to bring your phones this year to a pride event near you, and join the movement to bring equality and understanding to the world. Don't forget you are a part of history and history evolving every minute of every day. Be a part of the evolution of the Pride Movement to Pride Celebration and help collectively capture the history of Pride going forward for future generations to enjoy!

Doctors Practice Medicine in Fear, New Study Finds

Doctors Practice Medicine in Fear, New Study Finds

Doctors Estimate Defensive Medicine Costs Americans $650-850 Billion Annually

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) February 26, 2010

Nine out of 10 U. S. physicians (92 percent) reported practicing defensive medicine, according to a new online survey released today by Jackson Healthcare, a healthcare management company.

Defensive medicine refers to tests, hospitalizations, prescriptions and surgical procedures physicians consider medically unnecessary, but order in an attempt to avoid lawsuits. This means patients are paying more so that doctors don’t get sued. In Jackson’s survey, physicians attribute 34 percent of overall healthcare costs to defensive medicine.

To validate the findings of their online survey, Jackson Healthcare retained Gallup to conduct an independent national survey of physicians to quantify the scope of defensive medicine practices. According to Gallup’s study, physicians estimate that one in four dollars (26 percent) spent on health care in America pays for unnecessary tests and treatments.

“According to recent data from The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the U. S. spent $2.5 trillion on healthcare in 2009,” said Richard Jackson, chairman and chief executive officer of Jackson Healthcare. “If physician estimates are accurate, this means that $650-850 billion per year is spent on lawsuit-driven medicine.”

“The consequences of this waste affect all of us,” said Jackson. “Costs go up and quality and access go down when our physicians are under the constant personal threat of litigation.”

According to Jackson, many Americans believe that physicians are personally protected from lawsuits through their malpractice insurance coverage and their affiliation with an institution. “This is not true. Physicians are personally financially liable for mistakes and omissions.”

In cases of true negligence, Jackson’s online survey found that nine out of 10 physicians (89 percent) agreed that patients receiving negligent treatment have the right to compensation.

“Each day our physicians put their careers, reputations and personal livelihoods at risk in order to serve us,” said Jackson. “Our online survey found that they feel trapped between the Hippocratic Oath and their personal desire to stay out of court and in business.”

According to Jackson’s online survey findings, emergency room, primary care and OB/GYN physicians are most likely to practice defensive medicine, as are female and younger physicians.

In addition, the survey found that consequences of defensive medicine exist beyond the courtroom. These include limited patient access to medical care, inadequate treatment of patient illnesses, decreasing physician morale, physician flight from the practice of medicine, and a general distrust between physicians and patients.

“We must find a solution that fosters partnership and trust between physicians and patients,” said Jackson. “Physicians should not have to fear losing everything they have over one mistake. Likewise, patients should not have to be put at physical and financial risk because their physicians can’t trust them.”

Over 3,000 physicians spanning all states and medical specialties participated in Jackson Healthcare’s online survey. The survey error range is at the 95 percent confidence level: +/-1.15 percent.

Symagery today announced here at the Frontline Solutions Conference & Expo its SX3000C, the first color megapixel imager for the AIDC industry. The SX3000CÂ’s high resolution engine enables the capture of color images and both color and conventional bar codes. Its high-quality, high resolution 1.3 megapixel image resolution is ideal for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that require color capabilities within their information capture products, including scanners and kiosks.

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) September 16, 2004 -

– Symagery today announced here at the Frontline Solutions Conference & Expo its SX3000C, the first color megapixel imager for the AIDC industry.

This latest offering from Symagery, which will be demonstrated at the show at booth #121, enables a variety of applications, including public safety and security, claims management, inventory/asset management and counterfeit/fraud prevention.

For example, insurance examiners inspecting damaged vehicles, would be able to photograph them using the color engine in this scanning device. Delivery services could both scan a package when delivered and also create a color photograph of the goods if refused because of damage. Additionally, kiosks could incorporate the SX3000C to capture and validate identification and to record color photographic records of transactions.

Features include the following

• Easily integrates into hand-held or fixed-mount scanners or portable data collection terminals, that already have interface functionality.

• Includes standard sized scan engine with detailed software development tools to customize hardware design.

• Consists of solid-state technology, which means no moving parts and less maintenance for the final product. Safe LED-based illumination removes the risks involved with lasers without sacrificing performance.

• Offers unparalleled field of view, providing end-users with an unprecedented image capture and bar code reading area.

• Delivers superior performance through its image clarity and omnidirectional reading. This means fewer scans and more accurate first time reads – even with multiple bar codes – for the operator.

• Provides the versatility to read in any environment through its lens configuration options. Solid performance and the ability to capture color images in addition to a wide selection of both color and conventional bar codes – linear, stacked and 2D – make the SX3000C imaging system cost-effective from design through production.

“We’ve always prided ourselves on offering OEMs the most rugged and highest resolution image-based systems,” said Ron Caines, president and CEO, Symagery. The SX3000C, with the industry’s first color capabilities, now provides our customers with capabilities that will enable them to develop even more highly differentiated applications.”

The SX3000C will be demonstrated over the 3 days of the show and will be generally available to OEMs beginning 1st Quarter 2005.
