New Filter Removes Aquarium Nitrates Without Water Changes: Introducing the DeNITRIFIER

Midwest Aquatic Research Inc. is pleased to announce the latest break through in aquarium maintenance. Our newest filter actually removes aquarium nitrates without water changes.

Aurora, IL (PRWEB) October 20, 2005

Midwest Aquatic Research Inc. is pleased to announce the latest break through in aquarium technology. Our newest filter actually removes aquarium nitrates without water changes.

The build-up of nitrate (NO3) is the primary reason that frequent water changes are needed in a fresh or saltwater aquarium. Nitrate can be toxic to corals and other invertebrates at even the lowest levels. At higher levels, your fish will suffer and may die. Nitrate also feeds nuisance algae in closed aquarium. If you are cleaning algae off of your aquarium glass more than every week, you need a denitrator.

Midwest Aquatic is excited to announce to a new filter that actually removes nitrates from aquariums WITHOUT water changes.

The filter creates the perfect environment where natural bacteria work overtime to remove nitrates from your aquarium fast!

The DeNITRIFIER comes pre-populated with denitrifying bacteria. So it CYCLES FAST. Most nitrate removal filters must be "cycled" for 6-8 weeks for bacterial colonies to form. The DeNITRIFIER is populated with high quality denitrifying bacteria, it begins removing nitrates virtually instantly.

The DeNITRIFIER comes 90% Pre-Assembled. Plug it in and enjoy the benefits. No complicated instructions to follow. The unit comes with everything you need. Even a RIO® power head.

The DeNITRIFIER uses the highest quality Bio-Media available. The surface area of the material is 250 square feet per cubic foot. More surface area, means more area for the denitfifying bacteria to colonize. The DeNITRIFIER holds more bacteria, so it works more quickly and more effectively, regardless of your aquarium's bio-load!

The DeNITRIFIER is made from only the highest quality materials, so it will provide years of trouble free service guaranteed.

This revolutionary filter makes it easier than ever to maintain a healthy saltwater or fresh water aquarium.

The Doctor's Doctor Has Your Diagnosis

The Doctor's Doctor Has Your Diagnosis

(PRWEB) February 23, 2000

D.CEO and President310-323-5001psdermpath@earthlink. netTHE DOCTOR’S DOCTOR HAS YOUR DIAGNOSISTorrance, CA-February 20, 2000The Doctor’s Doctor www. thedoctorsdoctor. com has your diagnosis. For the first time, there is access to the most important and overlooked member of the health care team, the pathologist. The pathologist is the consultant, the doctor’s doctor, to all other physicians. Now, the patient is able to communicate with the same expert. This site offers personalized interpretation of laboratory reports, explanation of diseases, medical news, and a discussion board, all from the viewpoint of the pathologist. How often have you heard the following phrase, “We are waiting for the results”? What you are really waiting for is the pathologist to make the diagnosis. The laboratory is often viewed by the patient as black box, a bewildering collection of sophisticated equipment where specimens are received and a diagnosis miraculously

Appears. Producing these complicated interpretations and diagnoses are many highly trained professionals. They are the pathologists, physicians specially trained in the art and science of laboratory medicine. Nearly all medical decisions are based upon the results of the laboratory. These results are complicated and written in highly technical language, requiring years of training to properly interpret. Ironically, the physician producing these results, the pathologist, very rarely communicates with the patient. Unlike the popular media impression of the pathologist doing autopsies and solving murders, most pathologists practice in hospitals and private laboratories and are doctorsto the living. The patient that is able to understand their laboratory result is in a better position to make an informed decision regarding their medical care. The patient may send a copy of their medical report and a board certified pathologist will “translate” the report from complicated and highly technical medical languageinto everyday language. There is coverage of major and rare medical diseases where patients can find insights from the pathologistÂ’s perspective. Included is a glossary of terms, internet links, and a description of the role the pathologist plays in the diagnosis of each disease. To keep everyone up to date, there is “Medical News You Can Use” where recent medical news articles are interpreted through the eyes of the pathologist. For example, the recent news of Tipper GoreÂ’s thyroid surgery is illuminated with insight into the role the pathologist plays in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Finally, “Got Path?” is an online discussion board with coverage of major diseases and other health related concerns with feedback from the staff of The DoctorÂ’s Doctor. Learning from the Masters

Learning from the Masters

The best marketing training probably won't come from a manual or someone standing in front of the room with a PowerPoint presentation. Good training usually results when we watch and learn from those who have the experience we seek. From there, it's all about trying it on our own. The test is in the field, not on paper. Wealth Masters International recognizes and enthusiastically encourages this type of training.

Sugarland, TX (PRWEB) September 10, 2008 -

The best marketing training probably won't come from a manual or someone standing in front of the room with a PowerPoint presentation. Good training usually results when we watch and learn from those who have the experience we seek. From there, it's all about trying it on our own. The test is in the field, not on paper. Wealth Masters International recognizes and enthusiastically encourages this type of training.

WMI also realizes that there are multiple paths to success, not just one well-trod road. Successful marketing can be achieved through a range of tactics and media (Internet, phone, direct mail and so on). Each seasoned marketer will have their own way of doing business. To better encourage these proven marketing techniques, WMI looks to its marketing systems, relying on its seasoned consultants to mentor their teammates in their individual strategies. In marketing terms, this is often known as "the benefit of a proven turnkey system." Even the consultant with no previous marketing experience will have cutting-edge tools, products and solutions that can help kick-start marketing strategies with WMI.

"Our consultants are entrepreneurs," says Wealth Masters International Vice President of Member Services Mike Budny. "We allow a lot of flexibility and provide many options for them to create massive results with us." While the consultants primarily teach the startup essentials, the foundation of support comes from WMI, which offers its consultants a variety of tools to assist in marketing WMI products--from current advice to online support.

Of benefit to all consultants--new and experienced--are the training calls. The first of these is the Charge Call (as in a rhino CHARGING out of the jungle). "The Charge Call is done every weekday morning, except Friday," Mike says. "Every Monday morning it's hosted by WMI's Co-Founders Kip Herriage, the CEO, and Karl Bessey, the president. We do corporate updates and recognize our top consultants on that call. The purpose of the call is to get started on the right foot each morning and to put the business into the proper perspective as in, 'This is where you need to be, this is what people are actually doing to create results.' It's a motivating, fast, exciting call to experience each morning." Monday evening is the Business Plan Call, hosted by two of WMI's top producers. "They're just doing a heart-to-heart with everybody on the call saying, 'Look, if I were you, I would take the following steps to create these kinds of results,' " Mike says. "That call is a blueprint for success and probably one of our best calls of the week. There is no hidden agenda or secrets in what we're teaching."

Then there's the WMI Business Center, WMI's main Internet tool for its consultants. The WMI Business Center functions as a one-stop-shop that members can log onto and essentially run their business. "It's your business online for you, ready to go," Mike says. "Everything you need is right in front of you. It's customized for each of our consultants. They can do all their lead-management and see what they've earned each month. All orders are processed through the WMI Business Center. In addition, internal e-mail is available so consultants can create a dialogue with their team." Members can also listen to recordings of the weekly calls and catch up on company news at the WMI Business Center.

Somewhat retro, and almost deliberately evocative of the past, is WMI's Consultant Seminar Program, or CSP. The intention behind the CSP is to get back to grass roots and bring potential members and marketers face-to-face in one room--the way concepts and products were marketed before the Internet. "The CSP is a turnkey seminar solution for consultants who are

Seeking that human variable but may have no idea how to put a seminar together," Mike says. "This is a people industry, and by implementing the CSP we're putting the human touch back into it. We're going to create a system where, at little to no cost, someone can put an event together and produce extraordinary results with it." Just like the old days. Ultimately, WMI is about helping people get their financial houses in order and their financial lives on track. Whatever marketing strategy someone elects to pursue, WMI places the tools, systems and solutions immediately within their grasp; for new consultants, success lies in the force of their grip.

Vocada Introduces New CTRM Solution -- Veriphy; VoiceLink's Successor Makes Debut as Market Leader

Vocada, Inc. this week introduced Veriphy™, a comprehensive, technology-based solution for Critical Test Result Management (CTRM) -- an enterprise strategy for enhancing patient safety, improving patient outcomes, and boosting staff productivity at hospitals. Vocada made the announcement at the annual meeting of The American Healthcare Radiology Administrators, being held this week in Las Vegas. Vocada’s first product, VoiceLink™ has led the market for CTRM ever since it was introduced in 2004. Vocada’s CTRM customer base now includes more than 80 hospitals across the country, and the company is adding new ones at a rapid clip.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) July 31, 2006

Vocada, Inc. this week introduced Veriphy™, a comprehensive, technology-based solution for Critical Test Result Management (CTRM) -- an enterprise strategy for enhancing patient safety, improving patient outcomes, and boosting staff productivity at hospitals.

Vocada made the announcement at the annual meeting of The American Healthcare Radiology Administrators, being held in Las Vegas this week.

Vocada’s first product, VoiceLink™ has led the market for CTRM ever since it was introduced in 2004. Vocada’s CTRM customer base now includes more than 80 hospitals across the country, and the company is adding new ones at a rapid clip.

Veriphy, the successor to VoiceLink, is much more than a technology platform, said Peter White, CEO of Vocada. He explained that Veriphy is a complete, end-to-end CTRM solution for hospital diagnostic departments, including radiology, laboratories, and cardiology.

The comprehensive Veriphy solution encompasses:

1. Policy development and implementation, including building of the physician database. This process ensures that rules and policies are consistent and appropriate, and eliminates potential barriers to a smooth implementation.

2. Communications technology that verifies message receipt and automates documentation and rule compliance – user-friendly, hosted technology that requires no new investment in hardware or software. A reporting clinician makes one call from a phone or computer and the system does the rest.

3. Real-time reporting that enables benchmarking and performance evaluation. By logging on to the Veriphy web site, a hospital administrator can quickly see whether patients might be at risk from delays in communicating critical patient findings.

4. Professional services to help implement best practices. Hospitals benefit from the experience of comparable institutions and avoid having to re-invent the wheel.

One of the new features in Veriphy is a downloadable desktop application, which enables a reporting clinician to create and send a voice message about a test result directly from his or her computer to the ordering clinician. The system automatically tracks and monitors the communication and verifies receipt of the message. Vocada describes the feature as “work-flow friendly.”

Veriphy also features a new web interface to make CTRM even easier for hospital administrators and department managers.

“CTRM for the first time provides hospital administrators with a window on a crucial facet of patient care and quality,” said Peter White. “With a click of a computer mouse, an administrator can spot problems and initiate corrective action. Without CTRM, a hospital administrator has no systematic way of knowing whether a problem exists and whether patients are at risk.”

Failures and delays in the communication of critical test results is the Achilles’ Heel of health care delivery. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the National Institute of Medicine have identified these types of communication problems as a threat to patient safety. JCAHO’s National Patient Safety Goals specifically address the issue.

Radiology receives much of the attention as a source of the problem, but, in fact, every diagnostic department faces potential liability from this issue.

The Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 also specifically address the problem. For example, CLIA Sec. 493.1234 Standard: Communications states:

The laboratory must have a system in place to identify and document problems that occur as a result of a breakdown in communication between the laboratory and an authorized individual who orders or receives test results.

Even where hospitals and laboratories genuinely believe they have addressed the problem, the reality often is very different. The typical “systems” for delivering and managing critical test results are mostly manual, disjointed, inefficient, prone to error, and frustratingly inconsistent across hospitals within a system and across diagnostic departments within a hospital.

“The essence of Veriphy is verified physician communications,” said Thomas White, executive vice president and co-founder of Vocada. “It is easy to use and adapts to fit the working preferences of most physicians. The automation features ensure reporting consistency within departments, across diagnostic departments, and across hospital systems.”

To report a critical patient finding to an ordering clinician, the reporting clinician calls an assigned Veriphy phone number once, speaks the report, and Veriphy literally does the rest. A clinician also can use the desktop feature to send an alert and voice message directly from the reporting clinician’s computer.

The automated system ensures compliance with all legal and professional reporting standards without any additional effort on the part of physicians or administrators.

Veriphy works equally well as a stand-alone application or embedded within other applications. With that in mind, Vocada has established strategic alliances with leading health care technology companies to provide the most comprehensive solution available for closed-loop medical communications.

CTRM technology did not even exist until relatively recently. Now that CTRM technology is here, it has changed the picture forever, said Tom White.

“With this technology-based solution, CTRM is not only possible, it now is mandatory for hospitals of all types and sizes,” he said.

About Vocada, Inc.

Vocada’s Veriphy™ critical test result management solution is the only end-to-end enterprise solution for communicating critical test results from hospital diagnostic departments to ordering clinicians. Using a patented, hosted system, Veriphy automates and verifies communication of critical test results in a real-time, assured and trackable solution, simultaneously enhancing patient safety and boosting physician productivity. The privately held, Dallas-based company was founded in October 2000 by brothers Peter and Thomas White, who were both previously involved with other innovative and successful technology ventures. The company introduced its first product, VoiceLink™, predecessor to Veriphy, in 2004. For more information, visit http://www. vocada. com/ (http://www. vocada. com/).

September 10th is International Suicide Prevention Day

September 10th is International Suicide Prevention Day

September 10, International Suicide Prevention Day, focuses on a public health problem that leads to twice as many deaths annually in the US as AIDS, 40% more deaths than homicide, is the 2nd leading cause of death of college students, 3rd of teenagers and touches people of every age, culture and socio-economic background with the elderly, middle-age men and mentally ill comprising the highest risk groups.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 10, 2010

On the day before September 11, cities around the world are focusing on preventing suicide, a problem that leads to more fatalities than war throughout the world with major activities taking place locally and in Washington D. C., where a major press conference will be held at the National Press Club that will be attended by three members of the President’s cabinet, the Secretary of the Army and key leaders in suicide prevention from around the country announcing new initiatives to reduce suicide in the U. S.

To bring attention to this problem, Facebook will be sending out messages to 10,000,000 users promoting “Take 5 To Save Lives” at www. take5tosavelives. com which is a website that provides guidelines and information on how to respond to someone you think may be in crisis or at risk of suicide.

The Samaritans, which in NYC operates a 24 hour confidential suicide prevention hotline for those who are depressed and in crisis at (212) 673-3000 also offers support to those who have lost a loved one to suicide through its Safe Place program (go to www. samaritansnyc. org/safeplace (http://www. samaritansnyc. org/safeplace)), is a member of the National Council for Suicide Prevention which is behind the Take 5 site.

Tied to Suicide Prevention Day, Samaritans has launched its Promoting Corporate Wellness website at www. promotingcorporatewellness. com on Wednesday, September 8, designed to educate corporate leadership, business owners, managers, personnel directors, employee assistance program staff, etc. of the many ways suicide directly impacts their worker’s mental health, emotional well-being and productivity as well as their businesses’ bottom line as part of an ongoing project with NYS Office of Mental Health targeting those populations that are high-risk but have often been overlooked when it comes to suicide prevention outreach and education.

“Preventing Suicide Is Good Business” is the theme of the site which allows NYC businesses and corporations to take advantage of free individualized consultations and technical support, specially designed trainings, information about best practices, evidence-based programs and resources, and experts they can utilize to improve their company’s prevention planning and readiness.

Background info on Samaritans:

The Samaritans of New York is the local branch of the international humanitarian movement with centers in 42 countries. A non-religious, non-profit organization, Samaritans is devoted to helping people who are in crisis and feeling suicidal. Volunteer-run programs practice a communications-based response called "befriending," which emphasizes listening to what a person in crisis is feeling and thinking without expressing personal judgments or opinions. The Samaritans 24-hour suicide prevention hotline is the city's only confidential hotline devoted to preventing suicide. It operates seven days a week and is staffed by volunteers who go through intensive training. For more information, visit www. samaritansnyc. org.

On Corporate impact of depression and suicide:

Depression is a leading cause of absenteeism and reduced productivity at work (nationally, depression cost the economy $83.1 billion in 2000, up 10% from 1990; in New York State, depression and suicide cost $3.4-$4.0 billion annually). A minimum of 7% of full-time workers battled depression in the past year (the leading cause of suicide). Occupations most impacted by depression include: entertainment, sports and media; office and administrative support; financial; sales; legal; and management.

Enhanced and systematic efforts to identify and treat depression in the workplace significantly improve employee health and productivity, likely leading to lower costs overall for the employer, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. NYC businesses are positioned to help thousands of employees who are in crisis and prevent a potentially destructive situation from escalating and damaging that person, their colleagues and workplace.

Symposium To Discuss Health Issues Affecting Asian American Women

Symposium To Discuss Health Issues Affecting Asian American Women

“Women’s Health Symposium – Focus on Asian American Women in New York City" will be held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Federal Building Conference Center in New York. The day-long symposium will provide the latest information on diagnosis, treatment and service models for mental health, cervical and ovarian cancer, cardiovascular disease, domestic violence, immigration life in New York City and infectious diseases such as sexually transmitted diseases among Asian women.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 2, 2004

A one-day symposium on health issues affecting Asian Women in New York City will be held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Federal Building Conference Center in New York.

“Women’s Health Symposium – Focus on Asian American Women in New York City” will provide the latest information on diagnosis, treatment and service models for mental health, cervical and ovarian cancer, cardiovascular disease, domestic violence, immigration life in New York City and infectious diseases such as sexually transmitted diseases among Asian women. In addition, in an effort to address the social cultural barriers faced by Asian American women, the program will also introduce new models to provide optimal culturally competent care to this population.

According to the 2000 US census, Asian Americans represent 4.2 percent of the US population, and about 21 percent of Asian Americans lack health insurance, compared to 16 percent of the general population. Barriers against Asian Americans in getting quality healthcare range from financial, linguistic, cultural and even structural issues. Asian Americans are also stereotyped as the “model minority” which often leads healthcare professionals and policymakers to overlook their issues. For example, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that during 1988-1992, the highest age-adjusted incidence rate of cervical cancer occurred among Vietnamese American women was almost five times higher than the rate among non-Hispanic white women. CDC reports also indicate that Asian American women over the age of 65 have the highest female suicide mortality rate among women across all racial/ethnic groups, and among all racial/ethnic groups among women aged 15-24.

Now, a remarkable scientific breakthrough has discovered the ideal amino acid pattern for human nutrition that provides the perfect protein. This pattern is comprised of exact unique proportions of essential amino acids. Now it is possible to provide protein nutritional support that releases virtually no calories or nitrogen waste which dramatically aids in stronger muscles, ligaments & bones; improves lactic acid clearance; shortens recovery time; and betters performance for a longer period of time. That support is called BioBuilde.

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) April 3, 2004

When you train, you actually tear down your muscles, tendons and ligaments. Your body responds by building them back up, and in fact over-compensates to try and adjust for the increased demand by building them bigger, faster, stronger and with more endurance. BUT NOT IF IT'S STARVED FOR PROTEIN! It can't even keep up, much less improve, if you aren't giving it what it needs. The basic building block is protein, and its constituents, amino acids.

A measure of how the body utilizes a protein or amino acid formula is Net Nitrogen Utilization (NNU). NNU is the percentage of the amino acids that act as “building blocks” in the body’s protein synthesis. BioBuilde provides 99% Net Nitrogen Utilization (NNU), the highest among any dietary protein, more than twice the utilization effectiveness of the best protein source available

Elite athletes like George Hincapie, US Postal Professional Cycling Team, Steve Tilford, Professional Bike Racer and World Mountain Bike Champion, Paula Newby-Fraser, World Champion Triathlete, Peter Reid and Lori Bowden, World Ironman Triathlete Champions are at the top of the list of thousands who are using BioBuilde to get them where they want go.

HearPod’s New Designs Will Change the World When it Comes to Hearing Aids

HearPod’s New Designs Will Change the World When it Comes to Hearing Aids

HearPod has developed two new Patent Pending designs that will allow hearing aid users, for select models of hearing aids, to custom fit the earpiece to their individual ear canal shape.

Cornelius, NC (PRWEB) March 3, 2010

The new designs, using silicone pillows, provide the fit and comfort of a custom molded earpiece. Customers purchasing the InvisiPod and MicroPod models of HearPods will be able to custom fit their earpiece within minutes. Until now, hearing aid users with an unusual shape to their ear canal have had to get a mold of their ear canal made, send the mold into the hearing aid distributor and wait for their hearing aid to be sent back with the custom ear piece design. This is still an option for HearPod customers, however the new silicone pillow designs allow the user to custom fit their own ear piece without the discomfort of having an ear mold made.

"In these tough economic times it is nice to find a company with a great price of a great product. I purchased a HearPod (http://www. myhearpod. com) about 2 years ago. I first ordered the generic unit but found that my ear canal would not accept the generic unit. I contacted HearPod and was given all the instructions on how to get a hearing aid fit to my specific needs. The process was easy. The technician contacted me to verify what I needed. The new aid was sent to me and I have been great ever since. I sing in the church choir and the new aid has been exceptional.”

Pat Armstrong, Ohio

“They fit great and went real well in a business meeting last night. Please pass on my thanks to all involved for such great customer service.”

Tom Farley, North Carolina

HearPod, with their new Patent Pending designs, is now a true provider of over-the-counter prescription fit hearing aids (http://www. myhearpod. com). They are now able to provide improved hearing for almost anyone experiencing the discomfort and difficulty of hearing loss. There is no reason for anyone who suspects they are suffering from hearing loss to avoid seeing their Hearing Health Care Provider for a full hearing exam.

HearPod’s new custom fit designs, along with the highest technology available in digital hearing aids, have now opened the door for any hearing loss patient to hear better and have a better quality of life.

HearPod founder, Randy Wohlers, advises patients with hearing loss: “Don't pay for brand name hearing aids when you can get the same and even higher levels of hearing technology at 75% savings.”

HearPods are high quality digital hearing aids (http://www. myhearpod. com) available for patients diagnosed hearing loss. HearPod hearing aids, depending on the style and programming, can cost thousands of dollars less than traditional hearing aids and offer fully digital technology. HearPod hearing aids are designed in several different styles to accommodate both lifestyle and budget. With a 45 day money back warranty and full-time customer care, HearPod provides excellent customer support and service.

"Optimal Nutrition, Raw and Cooked Canine Diets: The Next Level," a new book about canine nutrition by Monica Segal, AHCW (www. monicasegal. com), will alleviate this stress for concerned dog owners and breeders by providing valuable information and resources about the important steps one must take to maintain a dog's healthy lifestyle.

In addition to specialized diet information, "Optimal Nutrition" includes well-balanced recipes, personally approved by Ana Hill, DVM, PhD, author of the book's foreword.

"During times of crisis like this, it's important to remember that every dog has unique requirements and food tolerances, and certain breeds are predisposed to particular health concerns," Segal said. " 'Optimal Nutrition' focuses on taking a proactive approach to nutrition by emphasizing that each dog has individual needs."

Expanding on information from her first book, "K9 Kitchen: The Truth Behind the Hype," Segal discusses feeding of different types of dogs, including breeding dogs, new puppies, young pups in their permanent homes, working dogs and senior dogs. Unemployed Mississippi Parrot Expert Finds Success Advising Parrot Owners Worldwide

Unemployed Mississippi Parrot Expert Finds Success Advising Parrot Owners Worldwide

How Difficulty Finding Employment Led to a Career Calling as a Parrot Advisor to the World.

Columbus, MS (PRWEB) June 5, 2006

Nora Caterino, a 49-year old parrot enthusiast and former parrot breeder, moved from Central Florida to Columbus, Mississippi, the poorest American state, to help care for her elderly mother. Jobs in the area were scarce and she needed a flexible schedule. She began freelance writing to survive, but continued seeking satisfying employment. Frustration set in and she simply didn't know where to turn.

That all changed the day she met Frederico Vila Verde of Porto, Portugal through a client-suppler website. He asked her to use her expertise about parrot taming and speech training to write a few articles for his newsletter, Parrots-Secrets. com. Vila Verde asked Caterino if she wanted to turn her parrot hobby into an online business. She was delighted with opportunity to offer insights to parrot owners and the two began work immediately on the Elite Parrots Club (http://www. eliteparrotsclub. com (http://www. eliteparrotsclub. com)).

"I love writing about parrots and making videos about parrot training. This is such satisfying work for me and I get to help hundreds of people solve their parrot training problems and learn how to properly care for their feathered friends," said Caterino. "It's a lot like a reality television show where people can spy on my techniques to tame, train, and teach parrots to speak. Other parrot owners share pictures and videos of their parrots as well."

"In fact," said Caterino, "I have had to joy of helping a college student in Pakistan save his parrot from certain death. He knew little about parrot care and feeding and was giving the bird only apple and banana to eat. The bird was losing weight at an alarming speed. I emailed him facts about proper parrot diet. That day he purchased parrot seed and began feeding the parrot fruits and vegetables as well. I was relieved to learn the parrot improved quickly and is now healthy and happy."

This is not an unusual occurrence for Caterino. Each day, she responds to emails from members of the Elite Parrots Club, a subscription website that provides free training videos, forums, a chat room and much more. She reviews products, provides free advice one-on-one to parrot owners that have questions or concerns about everything from feather plucking to the love life of parrots.

Today, the Elite Parrots Club has hundreds of subscribers. Member participation is high and each month conference telephone calls are held so that members can speak with Caterino directly. Chat conferences are also schedule at various times to meet the needs of parrot owners world-wide.

"I'm so happy that Elite Parrots Club has become such a success. By providing a cost-effective website with a sense of community for members, I can share my skills globally. Parrots aren't really that popular in Mississippi and I just love to tell people about parrots through our club," said Caterino

WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) December 11, 2003

Now that President Bush has signed a land - mark bill adding drug benefits to Medicare, an overriding question re - mains: how well will it work?

Despite Mr. Bush's prediction that most elderly people would benefit from the new law, federal health officials said they faced immense challenges in meeting the high expectations of Medicare beneficiaries.

"In return for a monthly premium of about $35, most seniors without any prescription-drug coverage can now expect to see their current drug bills cut roughly in half," Mr. Bush said in signing the bill Monday.

But no one knows whether the legislation will work as intended.

The new drug benefit will be offered and managed by private insurers and health plans, under contract with the government. The legislation defines a standard drug benefit, but insurers could vary it.

So Medicare beneficiaries could face a dizzying array of options — or perhaps very few, depending on where they live. A major question is whether insurance companies will offer policies covering drug costs and nothing else. Such stand-alone drug coverage is virtually nonexistent.

"Seniors are fully capable of making health care choices, and this bill allows them to do just that," Mr. Bush said in signing the bill.

But at least 10 percent of elderly Medicare beneficiaries have Alzheimer's or other types of dementia that would make it difficult for them to understand the options, said Stephen R. McConnell, senior vice president of the Alzheimer's Association.

Lawmakers and health policy experts raised many other questions as well: Will elderly people sign up for the new drug benefit? Can insurers secure big discounts in negotiations with drug manufacturers? Will increased federal payments lure private health plans into the Medicare market? Will competition among health plans save money for Medicare? Or will private plans cost more than traditional Medicare? Will employers scale back health benefits for retirees, knowing they can get a basic drug benefit from Medicare?

About 14 million people with low incomes, 35 percent of Medicare beneficiaries, will qualify for extra assistance under the bill. But federal and state officials said they would have to make enormous efforts to enroll all those eligible for such subsidies.

The new drug benefit becomes available in 2006. But Medicare recipients should see the first effects of the bill next June, when they can purchase government-approved discount cards for use at retail pharmacies.

Mr. Bush said the cards "will deliver savings of 10 to 25 percent off the retail price of most medicines." Studies by the General Accounting Office and other independent experts suggest that the savings will be closer to the low end of that range.

In signing the bill, Mr. Bush gave three examples of people who would benefit. The savings claimed by Mr. Bush are all possible, in theory. But he made a significant unstated assumption in each case: that insurers and health plans would be able to knock 15 percent to 20 percent off retail drug prices, through negotiations with manufacturers and pharmacies.

Stephen E. Littlejohn, vice president of Express Scripts, which manages drug benefits for many employers and health plans, said that assumption was reasonable. He said his company, based in St. Louis, typically delivered savings of 25 percent, with a further saving of 5 percent for people who fill prescriptions by mail.

If Medicare beneficiaries do not receive drug discounts comparable to those reported by Express Scripts, Congress could empower the government itself to negotiate with drug companies.

To illustrate how the new benefit would work, Mr. Bush described the case of Mary Jane Jones of Midlothian, Va.

"Her drug bills total nearly $500 a month," the president said. "Things got so tight for a while she had to use needles twice or three times for her insulin shots. With this law, Mary Jane won't have to go to such extremes. In exchange for a monthly premium of about $35, Mary Jane Jones would save nearly $2,700 in annual prescription drug spending."

Ms. Jones's drug costs total nearly $6,000 a year. The administration assumes that a private insurer or benefit manager could obtain a 20 percent discount, cutting the cost to $4,800 a year. Assuming Ms. Jones received the standard drug benefit, she would pay a $250 deductible, plus $500 of the next $2,000 in drug costs. She would then pay all of the next $2,550.

Under these assumptions, Ms. Jones's insurance would pay $1,500, and she would pay $3,300, thus saving $2,700, or 45 percent of what she now spends.

Those calculations do not include the premiums, estimated at $35 a month or $420 a year. The estimate comes from the Congressional Budget Office. Nothing in the law specifies the premium.

The new law relies on the private sector, insurers and health plans, to hold down drug spending and Medicare costs in general. Such insurers have a mixed record of controlling costs. Mercer Human Resource Consulting, the employee benefit concern, said on Monday that health benefit costs for those covered by private plans rose an average of 10.1 percent per active employee this year, after increases of 11.2 percent in 2001 and 14.7 percent in 2002. Mercer foresees a 13 percent increase next year.

The new law prohibits Medicare from using its purchasing power to negotiate with drug makers. Pharmaceutical companies, adamantly opposed to price controls, prefer to deal with dozens of private buyers rather than a single federal agency.

But Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, has described the ban on direct negotiations as "outrageous," and Democrats have introduced legislation to repeal it.

One of the biggest questions about the new law is whether it will foster the growth of private health plans, as President Bush and other Republicans hope. Fewer than 5 million of the 40 million Medicare beneficiaries, about 12 percent, are in private plans. The administration predicts that the proportion will grow to 35 percent by 2007, as beneficiaries enroll in health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations.

The new law would substantially increase Medicare payments to such private plans, beginning in 2004. Some insurers that shunned Medicare in recent years said they would be tempted to enter or return to that market. But they said it would be extremely difficult to build up networks of doctors and hospitals covering entire states or regions, as envisioned in the the new law. Moreover, many Medicare beneficiaries, dropped by H. M.O.'s in recent years, say they will be hesitant to enroll in private plans.

Judges Select Winner of the Ban Asbestos Now Video Search

Judges Select Winner of the Ban Asbestos Now Video Search

Los Angeles Based Team Wins Despite Their Horror Story

Wellesley, MA (PRWEB) May 20, 2010

Sokolove Law (http://www. sokolovelaw. com) announced today the winning video for the “Ban Asbestos Now! (http://banvideos. mesorc. com/)” film search which is part of a campaign to build awareness of the continued use of asbestos in the United States and the health implications due to exposure. Los Angeles residents Arik Cohen (writer/director), Jared Bauer (cameraman), Eric Snyder (actor), and Jake Kowalke (actor) took home first place for their video “The Horror Story” beating out three other submissions. These four winners will enjoy a trip to the 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival and $1,000 cash per individual.

“The Horror Story” starts off with two campers in a tent trading horror stories. One camper tells his story about the ubiquity of asbestos (http://www. mesorc. com/asbestos-exposure/types-of-asbestos/) in the US today and how exposure to it can kill you - leaving the other camper visibly worried and concerned.

“We were pleased with the quality of videos we received for this video search because each blended creativity with serious content about where asbestos is found and why it’s deadly,” explained Sean Galliher, Associate Manager at Sokolove Law. “Through this campaign alone, we were able to drive more than 1,400 visitors to the Ban Asbestos Now! site who voted for their favorite video which helped us to virally spread the word about this campaign. The more we’re able to let people know that asbestos is still used in the U. S. and that it has deadly effects on people who have been exposed to it, the closer we will be to banning it in our country.”

This campaign began earlier this year to draw national attention to the toxic, and often deadly, substance considered “the largest manmade public health crisis in history” according to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO). Each year, 2000-3000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma (http://www. mesorc. com/), a rare form of cancer which is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. While asbestos has been banned in some 50 countries worldwide, it is still legal in the United States and exists in many places one might not expect.

To help eliminate this deadly killer, the “Ban Asbestos Now!” Campaign requested that interested parties submit videos to drive attention to the national asbestos problem and compel Americans to join the movement to “Ban Asbestos Now!” The videos needed to address questions such as, “Did you know asbestos is still legal in the US?”, “Where can you find it?” and “Do you know what diseases it can cause?”

Judges of the entries included four individuals with varied backgrounds including: a registered nurse, lawyer, art director, and a mesothelioma survivor. The fifth “judge” was the People’s Choice vote – which brought in more than 1,400 votes combined; while the winning team did not take home the People’s Choice vote, they won three out of the five judges’ panel votes.

“I enjoyed watching all the videos that were submitted. It takes a lot of time, energy, and most of all, imagination to put something together that effectively blends factual information with something compelling to watch,” explained Larry Davis, a mesothelioma survivor and judge. “What I personally liked best about the winning entry ‘The Horror Story’ is that it brought me back to my younger days as a boy scout and how camp horror stories would always capture my attention. This video was well done from both a creative and scripting standpoint; you were transported to a time of innocence and yet you also learned the hard hitting message that asbestos is around and exposure to it can kill.”

To make a difference, visit http://www. banasbestosnow. com (http://www. banasbestosnow. com) and sign a letter to Congress urging them to BAN Asbestos Now!

For more information on asbestos, visit www. MesoRC. com, a resource site that is continually expanding to better provide information to those currently living with or caring for a victim of mesothelioma.

Unique Villa on Tiny Caribbean Island Holds Open House to the World

Unique Villa on Tiny Caribbean Island Holds Open House to the World

(PRWeb) This is not a run-of-the-mill luxury villa…and this is not your run-of-the-mill Caribbean resort. What makes both unique is their location, the rock bottom prices of real-estate on this hidden treasure of an island and now, the availability of an exceptional villa at an online auction.

Montserrat, British West Indies (PRWEB) March 28, 2006

For the first time, buyers around the world will have an opportunity to bid on an architect's truly unique home on a lush tropical island - without having to travel beyond their home computers to explore this rare Caribbean find.

Dr. Anne-Marie Toliver's stunning residence has long been considered one of the unique, premier homes in this most hidden and prestigious islands in the Caribbean.

Adjacent to a National Park, it has Caribbean and mountain views from every room and from the many outdoor decks. With its own totally private fresh-water pool, it is surrounded by one of the most beautiful private gardens in the West Indies, its sea views are breathtaking and its ambiance one of peace and tranquility.

Dr. Anne-Marie Toliver, an internationally known architect, selected the site and designed the house in 1988, when she retired to Montserrat with her husband. “We were looking for land with privacy and a fantastic view, then I designed the house to take advantage of both.”

“Twenty years ago, everyone thought we were crazy to come to an island that wasn’t on most maps. But we live in one of the most beautiful and unique places on earth. We experienced one hurricane (Hugo in 1989) and we have come to terms with living with a volcano that seems to blow its top every few years. With some of the best diving in clear, unpolluted waters, with hiking in the rain forest behind our home and with a volcano that may glow at night, we don’t have to look for adventure travel, we have it all right here. In addition we have a secure country (Montserrat is still a colony of England) with a currency that is fixed to the US$, fresh spring water piped to our house, low crime rate and broadband internet access. All that at the lowest real-estate prices in the Caribbean and within a few hours from any major city on the East Coast. And with real-estate taxes only about US$250 a year, who can ask for more? Do the math.”

“We like the online auction idea because it makes our property more visible and accessible,” said Anne-Marie Toliver, “It’s like holding an open house for the whole world. It’s also a very transparent process and we don’t have to set an asking price. We can watch the bidding and know that we got the best price.”

“Because of health reasons we want to sell fast at the highest price. We like that there is nothing to negotiate, no haggling over price, and no contingencies to later kill a sale. It’s a unique opportunities for someone to fulfill the dream of a lifetime. We certainly did, and have absolutely no regrets.

For additional information on this unique villa and a virtual open house with extensive photo gallery, slide show and video visit our website at http://www. montserrat-caribbean-villas. com (http://www. montserrat-caribbean-villas. com). The site also provides particulars on the auction process that is being used. The winning bidder will conclusively own one of the most desirable vacation homes in the Caribbean.

Spurred by the Big Board auction of special 2008 Pinot Noir cuvées which raised close to $14,000 above 2008 totals, over 400 guests bid enthusiastically on oral (http://saludauction. org/media/auction2009_oral. pdf) and silent auction lots (http://saludauction. org/media/auction2009_silent. pdf), and contributed over $90,000 in a special appeal for ¡Salud!-sponsored dental clinics.

Co-Chair Vincent Reyes, M. D. said: "In this season of Thanksgiving, we are grateful to all of our supporters on many levels. Not only do they believe in the mission, but their contributions will help us serve over 2,000 individuals in the year ahead. We couldn't continue without their generosity."

"The stellar showing of the 2008 Pinots underscores the exceptional quality of the vintage," said winery co-chair Amy Wesselman of Westrey Wine Company. "It was the first en mass showing of these exciting wines and an opportunity for our colleagues to share them with a very appreciative crowd."

¡Salud! Clinical Services Manager Leda Garside encouraged bidders to "give from their hearts." They rose to the occasion with animated bidding which netted over $250,000 over the span of 4 hours at Portland's historic Governor Hotel and brought the event's total proceeds to $607,765.

Guest hosts Jesse Lange of Lange Estate Winery and Maria Ponzi of Ponzi Vineyards, costumed at one point as "Wine Country Royalty" successfully coaxed guests to bid generously on 29 exciting oral auction lots including 14 winemaker dinners, each with three winemakers from the "Vintner's Circle" (http://saludauction. org/salud-wineries. html) of featured ¡Salud! wineries. Other exciting lots included wine-centric vacations, a custom barrel of wine produced by Véronique Drouhin-Boss, a collection of 42 large format and rare bottles from participating Vintners and more.

The oral auction was introduced by singer Jorge Chavez, vineyard manager for Bergström Wines, with a stirring rendition of "Si He Sabido Amor" in honor of his co-workers. Ronni Lacroute, co-owner of WillaKenzie Estate was awarded the "Los Heroes de ¡Salud!" distinction for her role in the evolution and success of ¡Salud!, and for her vision, leadership and dedication in continuing to further the mission.

About ¡Salud!: Created by a group of Oregon winemakers and Tuality Healthcare (http://www. tualityfoundation. org/) physicians to address the health care hurdles faced by seasonal vineyard workers, this effective and far-reaching program is unique to Oregon. Workers who do not qualify for benefits due to the brevity of their employment with each winery or vineyard are given access to medical services and preventative health care under the guidance of medical professionals through education and advocacy.

2008 statistics (http://saludauction. org/salud-impact. html) include the following:

3,281 workers and family members were enrolled in the program, a 10% increase over 2007  937 wellness screenings were given at the worksite  2,601 dental procedures were performed  1,100 medical clinic visits were documented  19 mobile dental clinics were held, providing $73,991 in services for only $12,000

The 2010 Auction will be held November 12 and 13.

VIEW The Virtual Interactive Educational World for HR

VIEW The Virtual Interactive Educational World for HR

HR. com (www. hr. com) is launching the first virtual and online conference designed for HR professionals, including specialists in Benefits, Sourcing, HRO, Compensation, Incentives, Training, Consumer Directed Healthcare and Staffing, December 12-13th, 2007.

Aurora, Canada (PRWEB) November 21, 2007

HR. com (www. hr. com) is launching the first virtual and online conference designed for HR professionals, including specialists in Benefits, Sourcing, HRO, Compensation, Incentives, Training, Consumer Directed Healthcare and Staffing. Attendance is complimentary for all HR Professionals.

The first event in December has been designed to launch the idea to HR Professionals and to encourage HR vendors to participate.

Over 2,000 attendees are expected to attend, and there are over 70 exhibitors with booths in the virtual expo. Additionally, over 40 industry thought leaders will be providing workshops, expert chats, and panel discussions.

Debbie McGrath, CEO of HR. com, says, "When we polled our members, an overwhelming majority told us they wanted to have the conference and trade show experience available to them online. They really liked the idea of being able to interact with vendors without having to travel, and to have the ability to attend workshops and network with peers. For many executives, their scarcest resource is time, so the idea of attending a full conference and expo from the convenience of their office was extremely favorable."

Media sponsors partnering with HR. com on the premiere VIEW event include: IHRIM (The International Association for Human Resource Information), CDHC (Consumer Directed Healthcare) Solutions, BC (Benefit & Compensation) Solutions, HRO (Human Resource Outsourcing) Today, Human Resource Executive, Kennedy Information, and IBI (The Integrated Benefits Institute).

Vendors participate in VIEW because they can:

Design their own booths using a point and click booth builder application. Staff their booths without leaving the office. Booth staff can continue to respond to email and work on other items while they are also working at the show. Provide the most up-to-date and compelling information to attendees on their firm’s products and services, plus any career opportunities they’d like to highlight. Enjoy a huge ROI with a booth at VIEW vs. a physical event. With VIEW, companies do not have to ship a booth, pay airfare, accommodation and meals for booth staff; or all the associated trade show costs (Internet, drayage, vacuuming, etc.) – these simply disappear with an online show, saving companies many thousands of dollars. Meet a very targeted audience of senior HR decision-makers who are interested in their firm’s products and services, due to the tightly focused nature of the weekly virtual conferences in 2008. Obtain detailed, real-time reporting throughout the show. The reports tell sponsors who visited their booth, what they looked at, how long they stayed, their business card information, and complete transcripts of any chats that occurred. Design more meaningful follow-ups with show attendees, based on the detailed reporting they receive. For the premiere launch of VIEW in December on the 12th and 13th, a big event is planned, with over 40 scheduled presentations (both live and prerecorded) in nine tracks: Technology, Staffing, Sourcing, HRO, Compensation & Rewards, Benefits, CDHC, Retirement Planning & Financial Education, and Training & Organizational Development. HR. com is encouraging their entire audience to see the power of these online conferences, and how they can be scaled to meet the specific needs of each unique market area within this vast space.

Debbie McGrath also notes that, "Among the speakers at the December event are Carly Fiorina, Keith Ferrazzi, Marcus Buckingham, and Kenny Moore. We’ve managed to attract the top talent in the HR space to present at this show in order to help us launch this brand new concept to the industry. The overwhelming success of our unique presentation style allows us to offer live and prerecorded presentations along with Q&A, panel discussions, and expert chats to our attendees, as well as networking and a vendor expo throughout the show. The opportunities for our speakers to impart their knowledge and expertise, as well as to 'get the word out' to the thousands of executives in the HR space is just mind-boggling."

Admission to VIEW is Free for all HR Professionals. In addition to all the educational sessions, VIEW attendees are able to network with hundreds of their peers, "hang-out" in the virtual lounge, earn valuable points towards show prizes, and visit and interact with hundreds of HR industry exhibitors.

In 2008, there are 42 virtual conferences scheduled that will run for one day, each focusing on a narrowly defined topic. Topics range from Compliance and Legal Issues to Global Recruitment and Mergers and Acquisitions. For a complete listing, go to www. hr. com/view (http://www. hr. com/view) and click on 2008 Schedule.

LumnaSkin Sales Propelled by Recent Report of Banned Illumination Creams

LumnaSkin Sales Propelled by Recent Report of Banned Illumination Creams

Following a mid-December, 2009 report that was issued by the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB) in Malaysia, announcing that they were banning a dozen of the most popular nonprescription skin illumination creams, Dermagevity Skin Care's all-natural LumnaSkin illumination cream is flying off the shelves, literally!

Manalapan, N. J. (PRWEB) January 1, 2010

One of the leading cosmeceutical companies in the world, Dermagevity Skin Care, is experiencing booming sales of their all-natural skin illumination, whitening and brightening cream, LumnaSkin, spurred on the heels of a startling report that was issued in mid-December, 2009 by the Malaysian National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB)--announcing that they were banning twelve of the most popular over-the-counter illumination creams, due to them containing toxic and dangerous, poisonous ingredients.

The rather shocking news report that was published on December 10th, 2009 on the popular online news medium, Asiaone. com, in their Health section, warned consumers that the National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau - which is the Malaysian equivalent to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) - has announced that they have banned twelve different cosmetic illumination skin creams because they were using unregulated and hazardous ingredients.

Amongst this lengthy dozen are some well-known brands, which have been banned for using unsafe ingredients, such as tretinoin (retinoic acid) and hydroquinone.

Such ingredients are currently only allowed to be administered by prescription in the US, according to the FDA, because these ingredients are carcinogenic by nature; which means that they can cause a variety of different skin diseases, including ochronosis.

According to Emedicine. com, "Ochronosis is the bluish black discoloration of certain tissues, such as the ear cartilage and the ocular tissue, seen with alkaptonuria, a metabolic disorder. Additionally, ochronosis can occasionally occur from exposure to various substances such as phenol, trinitrophenol, resorcinol, mercury, picric acid, benzene, hydroquinone, and antimalarials."

Indeed, such skin creams can create quite the opposite effect that the makers promised consumers--many who were duped into purchasing their pricey products.

The report from Asianone. com cites the specific brands of illumination creams that were banned as the following illumination creams,

"Felisa Gentle Peeling Solution, Krim Malam Rahsia Rimba, Biocosmet Whitening Essence Cream, H2O + Waterwhite Brightening Night Cream, Magixpress Lightening Plus, A. Vant Cream, Eriesya Spa Beauty Cream, Natasya Krim Herba, Temulawak Whitening Pearl Cream Papaya, Ratna Sari Whitening Night Cream, Atika Beauty Renewal Night Cream and Chantique Whitening Night Cream."

(Source: Internet, 2009; http://health. asiaone. com/Health/News/Story/A1Story20091210-185044.html (http://health. asiaone. com/Health/News/Story/A1Story20091210-185044.html).)

"Whenever you read something as troubling as this news report on dangerous ingredients in skin creams, it is always disturbing," remarks Lumnaskin spokesperson, Jennifer Goldberg.

As to why the sales of their leading skin illumination cream have been soaring, Goldberg attributes several factors, not just the report of these banned creams.

"First and foremost, LumnaSkin is a revolutionary product that is safe to use, doesn't cause any side effects and only uses safe, proven and natural ingredients," Goldberg says. "But reports such as the aforementioned serve as both a warning and a reminder to consumers to always conduct their due diligence on any cosmetic products that they wish to use on their skin. Certainly, such shocking news has turned new customers in our direction. However, the main reason behind the success of our breakthrough illumination cream is easily explained: it's safe to use, and it works!"

LumnaSkin is a revolutionary skin brightening and illumination cream that was specifically designed to minimize the appearances of hyperpigmentation and pigmentation.

LumnaSkin is able to effectively treat such skin disorders by incorporating scientifically-proven ingredients, like Biowhite (which combines mulberry, saxifrage, scutellaria root, and grape extracts), Gigawhite (which has a documented whitening effect of 5% and boosts collagen production), delivered using hyaluronic acid to lighten the skin and reduce the signs of aging.

The cream is easily applied to the affected areas of the body once or twice daily, lightly dabbed and massaged into the affected areas of the skin until fully absorbed.

Most users will see noticeable results from using LumnaSkin within the first 2-6 weeks of daily application, when used as directed.
