Clearly Contacts Gets LEAN

Clearly Contacts Gets LEAN

Clearly Contacts is way ahead of the curve; implementing LEAN principles in its business, it works toward eliminating costs that do not add value to their customer's experience, increasing quality and service in the process.

Vancouver, BC (Vocus) May 22, 2009

During economic downturns, companies look for ways to reduce costs but often end up adversely affecting the quality of products and services offered. Clearly Contacts is way ahead of the curve; implementing LEAN principles in its business, it works toward eliminating costs that do not add value to their customer's experience, increasing quality and service in the process.

LEAN principles are aligned with internet retailing; after all, one website can service an entire continent, unlike costly retail storefronts. Henry Ford (founder of the Ford Motor Company) is sometimes cited as a pioneer of LEAN principles, when he employed a conveyor belt in the development of the assembly line. LEAN principles were formally developed at Toyota as they reduced operating costs and increased efficiency by focusing on what adds value from their customer's perspective and eliminating costs that do not add value.

Clearly Contacts adopted these principles as their own. Brick and mortar stores charge astronomical mark-ups on contact lenses and eyeglasses to pay for expenses such as rent of retail premises, staffing of these stores and all of the other costs associated with traditional retail operations. Clearly Contacts recognized that by offering their products online they could eliminate many of these costs and pass the savings on to their customers. It paid off; Clearly Contacts ships to150 countries across the globe, and was just ranked the 6th best health and beauty online retailer by Internet Retailer, the foremost respected e-commerce business magazine.

But LEAN isn't just about trimming away expenses - it's about re-thinking how a company works, from the ground up. LEAN requires the ongoing re-evaluation of processes to ensure that efficiency is achieved. It is recognized that a key element of this theory is a strong team of employees who are engaged and work smarter and harder because they enjoy what they do.

A few of the revolutionary changes Clearly Contacts has made in the past year such as mapping and reducing the number of steps required to complete an order fulfillment for contact lenses or manufacture a pair of eyeglasses. Another opportunity Clearly Contacts has leveraged is the speed at which employee comments or suggestions are answered and implemented, creating a culture of continuous improvement.

"We have always focused on efficiency at Clearly Contacts. Our entire purpose in the beginning was to streamline the vision care products industry and make contact lens delivery faster, simpler, and more affordable. LEAN helps us keep on top of the latest technologies and ensure that we are at the forefront of innovation. It holds us responsible to our customers and keeps their needs front of mind," stated Glen Kayll, Clearly Contacts CFO.

What's great about a LEAN company is the constant evolution, striving to perform at peak performance. Coastal Contacts and Clearly Contacts are always re-developing and fine-tuning for maximum efficiency and value.

Hispanic Workers Record Highest Fatal Injury Rate of Any Racial/Ethnic Group

Hispanic Workers Record Highest Fatal Injury Rate of Any Racial/Ethnic Group

Hispanic Workers Record Highest Fatal Injury Rate of Any Racial/Ethnic Group. BLR launches 7-Minute Safety Trainer™ - Spanish Edition for fast and effective safety training of this important but often neglected group.

Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) December 8, 2004

The figures are in from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and they are not good for the nation’s 17.5 million Hispanic workers. While long-term workplace injury and fatality trends continue to decline for American workers, Hispanics experience the highest rate of fatal injuries of all reported racial/ethnic groups – 4.5 per 100,000 workers in 2003. This compares to a rate of 4.0 in the working population at large.

The nation’s workplace safety agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, couldn’t be clearer on this issue: “OSHA is “committed…to protecting the health and safety of our nation’s diverse Hispanic workforce.” So, safety managers must train every worker in their organizations to protect themselves against workplace hazards. Or face the music in terms of fines and negative publicity.

For employers the obstacles to training their Hispanic workers are enormous – many do not understand English well enough to be trained in that language, and most safety managers do not speak Spanish well enough to train workers in that language. There is also a shortage of effective Spanish-language training materials on key OSHA training topics.

To solve these problems, Business and Legal Reports Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of its 7-Minute Safety Trainer – Spanish edition. This new safety handbook provides 54 instant safety meetings on key OSHA-required topics. Each meeting has been carefully researched by BLR’s safety editors and outside practitioners. The ready-to-go training package features a learning goal, brief discussion points, a quiz, and an illustrated and reproducible handout that summarizes key training points.

With tens of thousands of the English version of this practical training manual in use, BLR has now made both the handouts and the quizzes available in Spanish.

“Providing effective training for Spanish speaking workers is a huge problem,” said BLR President and founder Bob Brady. “We are extremely pleased to be able to provide a resource that helps protect this important group of workers.”

Employers who would like to obtain a free sample of a Spanish/English safety meeting may contact BLR at service@BLR. com, or 1 800 727-5257.

Businesses That Fail Disabled ‘Risk Legal Woes’

Businesses That Fail Disabled ‘Risk Legal Woes’

Changes to the law that protects disabled people in Britain from discrimination will mean businesses and employers should brace themselves for a raft of legal challenges this year, experts predictÂ

(PRWEB) February 12, 2005

Following an amendment to the Disability Discrimination Act late last year, employers, landlords and property managers are obliged to take steps to remove barriers to the workplace and provide welfare facilities for disabled workers.

This includes a wide-reaching extension to cover businesses' and the public sector's provision of services.

The broadening of provisions to services affects everyone from retailers to office managers and even e-commerce website operators, who were included in the amendments despite the fact the 1995 Act was drafted to apply to physical access.

The law now says organisations must make ‘reasonable adjustment’ to make their services more accessible to disabled people by removing, altering or helping them avoid barriers to access. Where this is not possible, they should try to provide the service in a reasonable alternative way.

Previously, the law said firms could not refuse to serve a disabled person or provide a lower standard of service because of their disability, unless this could be ‘justified’.

Mitchell Winter, Managing Director of the specialist health & safety consultancy Winter & Company, says business leaders are unprepared for the changes the updates bring.

"The vast majority of employers do not fully appreciate the requirements under the Act, nor the consequences of non-conformity," he explains.

"The greatest problem of all is the lack of understanding of the needs of disabled persons on the part of employers occupying office premises".

Office users fall within two main categories, he explains.

"The first category is occupiers of entire buildings, whom to a large extent have full control over their premises. They are able to carry out adjustments far more effectively, as they have full control of the site, and do not necessarily have to obtain landlord consent, which in turn makes the whole process far easier to implement.

"The second category is that of multi-occupancy, namely where an employer is sharing a building with other tenants, with the common parts of the building being managed by the landlord or managing agent.”

One area of concern here, he explains, is deciding whether the landlord or the tenant is responsible for implementing reasonable adjustment

“In most leases the landlord is able to recover the cost associated with repairs through the service charge, i. e. the tenant pays a proportion of the cost relative to the percentage of accommodation occupied on a pro rata basis,” he adds.

"However, improvements to premises are a very different matter, in that improvements are often not covered within the existing service charge infrastructure and the landlord is not necessarily able to recover the cost of such improvements from the tenant.”

Facilities businesses are expected to incorporate under the new rules include: designated car parking bays, permanent or fixed ramps, accessible lifts and useable furniture and doors, the correct colour contrast on signs and notice boards for sight impaired persons and training staff in matters of disability etiquette.

"We expect a raft of cases to be presented to the courts during 2005 where businesses fall short of these obligations – and it’s sure to be a recipe for tension between landlords and tenants," Mr Winter concludes.

David Ruebain, a leading disability legal expert, agrees with Mr Winter. He says: “Generally I don’t think that employers are as aware as they could be about the implications of these new regulations. This issues need to be addressed promptly and effectively to avoid legal challenges.”

Another major feature of the law now is that for the first time people suffering from cancer, HIV and multiple sclerosis are classed as disabled from the time of diagnosis.

Until now, such conditions had to be visible for people to be protected from discrimination. This means that employers canÂ’t act unfairly against staff with these conditions, which the government estimates cover at least 73,000 people.

The original Disability Discrimination Act, passed in 1995, aimed to redress the imbalance disabled people suffered, the government said.

It cites statistics that show one in seven in the UK population has some form of disability – nearly 10 million citizens.

And a recent study by the Disability Rights Commission found 80 percent of UK city centres offer barriers to disabled people, such as too many steps, heavy doors, and narrow entrances.

The government argues the changes it has made in the law are an essential part of its drive to support disabled people and give them full opportunities to improve their quality of life and be respected and included as equal members of society by 2025.

The government last month announced a new Office for Disability Issues for co-ordinating government work on disability and ensuring that this fits with the wider equalities agenda.

'Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?' Explores the $75 Billion a Year Pet Industry ... and May be an Excellent Research Book for Attorneys and Law Firms

'Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?' Explores the $75 Billion a Year Pet Industry... and May be an Excellent Research Book for Attorneys and Law Firms

The pet industry has modeled its business operations and "culture" after the tobacco industry. Carole Wade's book explains how pet owners' dog and cat worship is being manipulated to underwrite luxury lifestyles of greedy pet industry tycoons.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2007

The timely book, "Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?", available through Amazon. com and also Xlibris. com/bookstore/, describes the relationship between lonely pet owners and their dogs, in particular. The book's research leads the author to conclude that pet industry operatives have long observed and profited mightily from the phenomena of obsessed pet owners.

Today, with pet food poisoning affecting millions of dogs and cats, pet owners are now saddled with huge financial burdens from veterinarian bills, animal hospital statements, owner emotional distress, medication costs and burial expenses for their pet-dog-babies, pet-dog-children, pet-dog-husbands and pet-dog-partners.

In the author's opinion, it is certainly appropriate for pet owners' attorneys to file lawsuits against pet food manufacturers. But the book also highlights the "deep pockets" of pharmaceutical manufacturers and car makers and Madison Avenue advertising firms that have long conspired to enrich themselves by aggressively promoting pet ownership to unthinking lonely men and women. As discussed in "Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?," pharmaceutical giants exploit aging menopausal women by featuring them with pet-dogs (instead of "family-friendly" views with husbands). And car advertisements frequently picture large dogs sitting alongside male motorists.

Attorneys and law firms should also consider the content in the author's book concerning her viewpoint that many "fraudulent health studies" are financed by the pet industry to promote widespread pet ownership: more animals = more pet food and more pet product sales. And as the author considers to be a mimicking of the tobacco industry model, the pet industry has been enhancing its wealth by "covering-up" millions of dog bitings and dog maulings which go unreported on television and in newspapers. (The tobacco industry -- only recently a loser in class action lawsuits -- had long succeeded in hiding its customers' mortality figures from the news media.)

Carole Wade's book "Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?" can be purchased at Amazon. com and at Xlibris. com/bookstore/. She herself can be reached through the Random House Partner, Xlibris Corporation, International Plaza II, Suite 340, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19113.

Tech S2 Announces Release of CaseScribePC Wireless Dictation and Transcription Solution

Tech S2 Announces Release of CaseScribePC Wireless Dictation and Transcription Solution

New desktop version of server-based automated speech recognition solution delivers accurate transcriptions via Internet in minutes, utilizes low cost input devices. Solution includes medical, legal and general vocabularies.

Lansing, NY (PRWEB) April 9, 2006

Tech S2, Inc. today announced the release of CaseScribePC, the new desktop version of their CaseScribe hosted automated speech recognition transcription solution that allows users to dictate using a headset at their desktop PC, or upload audio files from a handheld digital voice recorder. CaseScribe, a product of Tech S2, is a web-based application service (ASP) solution combining the power of speech recognition and the convenience of the Internet in a complete digital dictation and transcription tool. CaseScribe’s unique, patent-pending technology automatically transcribes remotely dictated voice notes, and securely makes the transcription available from any location via any standard web browser in minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“CaseScribe is an easy-to-use, accurate, and secure digital dictation and transcription tool. Now, with a headset or any digital voice recorder, and 1 minute of training, a user can begin using CaseScribePC, and get dictations securely and accurately transcribed, from any location that has access to the Internet in just minutes,” said Mark Wheeler, president and CEO, Tech S2, Inc. “With automated continual training, accuracy can be as high as 99%.”

CaseScribePC and CaseScribePDA

CaseScribePC is designed for users dictating at a Windows based desktop, laptop or tablet PC, using a headset; dictated audio files can also be uploaded from a handheld digital voice recorder (with PC connectivity). CaseScribePDA, released in September 2005, supports mobile voice dictation – using the CaseScribe voice recording software, users dictate remotely using a wireless enabled Windows Mobile handheld PDA (with wireless Internet capability) or PDA smart phone (with Internet capability). The voice files are then securely uploaded to the CaseScribe servers, where they are immediately transcribed, stored, and ready for review in minutes.

“CaseScribe allows me to dictate my clinical records and receive my transcribed notes in minutes. These notes can then be placed into my electronic clinical database in seconds. Prior to CaseScribe, my notes were either handwritten into paper documents or typed into our electronic documentation, which was much more difficult for both myself and my staff,” said Dr. John C. Comisi, D. D.S., in Ithaca, NY. “We are getting closer to a “paperless” office and CaseScribe has made this an easier goal to achieve in my office. It’s an invaluable tool!”

Easy, Secure, Fast Transcription

With CaseScribe, users are able to securely access their transcriptions online at any time, from any location, using a PC with a standard web browser and high-speed Internet access, or via the CaseScribePC desktop application. Transcriptions can also be viewed, edited, and saved, on a Windows PDA or PDA phone. Using the CaseScribe web site portal, users, or their staff, can securely review, edit, and download their transcriptions -- even listen to the original dictation. Transcriptions can be edited by the speaker, or with CaseScribe’s newly enhanced Editor function, by the existing office staff, or transcriptionist, thus improving office productivity while cutting transcription costs and errors. In addition, with a click of the mouse, the transcription text can be placed into an electronic medical, legal, or financial records system.

CaseScribe leverages the Nuance® Dragon NaturallySpeaking® SDK Server Edition to power speech recognition in its automated back-end server-based transcription application, allowing for private, confidential and dependable transcribing of dictations. CaseScribe is HIPAA compliant, utilizing 128 bit SSL technology data encryption, with fully redundant and mirrored servers, ensuring reliable, uninterrupted and secure service. With CaseScribe there is no long term commitment, no software to buy, no add-on specialty vocabularies to buy, no maintenance fees, and all upgrades are automatically included. CaseScribe allows users to dictate naturally, with minimal training. Individual speaker training is completed online, and requires only 1 minute of dictation to create a voice profile. Users continually train their speaker voice profile, and can increase accuracy to as much as 99%. With a standard flat rate of $1.20 per minute of dictated audio, CaseScribe is equivalent to a rate of 10 cents per line. While typical industry standard is 24 hour or longer turn around time, CaseScribe returns transcription results within minutes. Discounts are available for high volume customers.

Flexible, easy to use, and affordable, especially for small practices, CaseScribe can also benefit larger group practices, clinics, hospitals, and transcription providers (MTSOs). Professionals across multiple industries can take advantage of CaseScribe for the quick and accurate turnaround of dictated notes, while in the office, on location, at home, or traveling, including healthcare practitioners, attorneys, insurance adjustors, real estate agents, financial institutions, and veterinarians. Eliminating the reliance on written notes and manual transcription, CaseScribe is the ideal solution for mobile and office professionals.

According to Dr. Scott D. Benjamin, D. D.S. from Norwich, NY, "With CaseScribe it has never been easier for dental professionals to manage specialized patient data such as notes specific to oral and facial surgeries and clinical situations that require detailed notes. With CaseScribe, dentists can simply dictate into their PC and within minutes their notes are transcribed and securely available on their PC for transfer into their local electronic patient record". Dr. Benjamin is on the ADA Standards Committee on Dental Informatics (SCDI) and is Chairman of the Digital Photography and Imaging working group, the Data Redundancy, Integrity and Storage working group and Co-Chairman of the Electronic Clinical Patient Records working group.

New Website Launched

With the release of CaseScribePC, Tech S2, Inc. has also launched the newly designed CaseScribe website, designed to be more streamlined with quicker and easier navigation, and an improved look and feel. In addition, a PDA version of the website has been added, at www. casescribe. com/pda (http://www. casescribe. com/pda).

Legal Vocabulary Added

In addition to medical, medical specialty, and general transcription vocabularies, CaseScribe has now added an extensive legal vocabulary. Now legal professionals at any location can dictate, wirelessly using CaseScribePDA, or at any desktop PC using CaseScribePC, and receive accurate, secure, and fast voice-to-text transcription processing. With CaseScribe’s new legal vocabulary, attorneys and their staff will realize increased productivity, along with reduced transcription costs and turnaround times.

“We are excited about the versatility, time and cost savings CaseScribe brings to our clients,” said Mark Wheeler, president and CEO, Tech S2, Inc. “CaseScribe is the only hosted transcription service with high accuracy, fast turn around times, and the flexibility to use a headset, handheld voice recorder, PDA, and/or PDA phone as input devices. With the ability to dictate and access transcriptions anywhere, anytime, CaseScribe provides customers with the greatest amount of control over their transcriptions.”

Scentuelle: Giving the Gift of Libido This Valentine’s Day

Scentuelle: Giving the Gift of Libido This Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day women across the country will be wondering if cupid’s arrow has struck them or if it was their Scentuelle.

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) February 5, 2006

This Valentine’s Day women across the country will be wondering if cupid’s arrow has struck them or if it was their Scentuelle. Scentuelle is a revolutionary product debuting in the U. S. market this Valentine’s Day. After astonishing success in Europe, women from the U. S. have been flocking to the product’s discreet boutique-style website, placing orders in the thousands.

“A few months ago my sister recommended I try the product as she had much success with it after the effects of menopause had left her lacking desire,” said Julie Schafer, 49, working mother of 3. “I tried a sample from my sister and sure enough I, too, felt the effects in a few days. My sexual desire for my husband really started to improve, and the intimacy in my marriage returned.”

For many years, 35 percent of women have suffered from a diminished libido, causing stress in their relationships. With the creation of Scentuelle, women now have a solution to this problem.

According to Dr. George Dodd, biochemist and leading expert in the field of aroma-science, Scentuelle contains a blend of scent molecules, which mimic the size, shape, and electrical charge of dopamine, the molecule that causes the brain to release the hormones that make us feel aroused.

Scentuelle stimulates the libido by targeting the scent receptors of our brains with a sensuous blend of aromas contained in a discreet patch. The patch is worn on the wrist and smelled during periods throughout the day, triggering the release of dopamine. Regular use of the patch is providing women with the intimacy and desire they had lost.

“Scentuelle represents an exciting breakthrough, offering women a simple, non-invasive solution to a lack of sexual desire,” said Liz Paul, inventor of Scentuelle and British Female Inventor of the Year Award in 2003.

Currently, the product is now available online at www. myscentuelle. com.

CST Medical Ltd is based in the UK and develops innovative products for female sexual health. Liz Paul, inventor and George Dodd, biochemist of Scentuelle are available for additional interviews and information requests. www. myscentuelle. com

Pearson Awards International Youth Fellowships for Social Innovation

Grants to Support Launch of 12 Entrepreneurship Projects in Eight Countries

Doha, Qatar (PRWEB) December 9, 2010

The Pearson Foundation today announced the first winners of the Pearson Fellowship for Social Innovation, awarded to the most outstanding social entrepreneurship projects developed by graduates of TakingITGlobal's Sprout e-course. The announcement was made at the 2010 World Innovation Summit for Education held in Doha, Qatar.

TakingItGlobal is an online community where students and teachers can access information and work together in their local and international communities. Its Sprout e-Course curriculum is designed to give young leaders worldwide access to training in essential skills, including team building, project management, communications, and the ability to leverage technology as they imagine, plan, and develop social innovation projects.

The cash grants, ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 US, support the launch of projects developed by twelve social entrepreneurs, ages 20-28, in eight countries. The activists are all recent graduates of the online Sprout e-course, where they received training in creating, designing, and launching plans for social innovation in their communities. The grants will make it possible for these dedicated young people to take the crucial first step in moving their projects from idea to reality.

The two top prize winners, with grants of $5,000 each, are Valens Ntamushobora of Rwanda, and Pankaj Shanker Jethwani, of India. Mr. Ntamushobora's project, titled, Let Us Stay Alive, will address the problems of poverty, HIV, and malnutrition with a program that combines education for women along with the development of agricultural co-ops. Mr. Jethwani's project, Maid In India, will seek to organize domestic workers, helping them gain access to benefits including healthcare, insurance, and training.

Additional Fellows from Cameroon, Canada, India, Indonesia, Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda were recognized for their proposals for social entrepreneurship that address a wide range of social issues, including helping disadvantaged youth in Cameroon obtain scholarships to online universities; encouraging engineering students in Mumbai to develop products for local businesses; and improving the quality of life for people with spinal cord injuries in South Africa.

In addition to cash grants, all Fellows will receive one-on-one mentoring from experienced social innovators, who will provide guidance as they implement their project plans. The Fellows will also become members of a special online community within the global TIG social network, where they'll have access to advanced resources and training materials.

TakingITGlobal's Executive Director, Jennifer Correiro, said that the Fellowships would greatly enhance TIG's ability to promote youth engagement and social innovation worldwide. "These awards provide a critical link between the training TakingITGlobal offers through the Sprout e-course and the real-world implementation of the plans our participants develop. As these dreams become a reality, they will serve as an inspiration to other young people who are seeking ways to better their communities, their countries, and our world."

"Pearson believes that young people, with their energy, passion, ingenuity and willingness to dream, are an enormous force for good in the world," said Mark Nieker, President of the Pearson Foundation. "Through programs like the Fellowship for Social Innovation and our support for TakingITGlobal and the Sprout e-course, we are doing our part to nurture and encourage these imaginative and inspiring young leaders."

Sales Leads for Pennies; Affordable Sales Lead Generation Using 21st Century Techniques

Sales Leads for Pennies; Affordable Sales Lead Generation Using 21st Century Techniques.

How Important is a Qualified Health Insurance Lead, Life Insurance Lead, Mortgage Lead, MLM Lead or Business Sales Lead to Your Business?

(PRWEB) September 1, 2003

Can you ever have enough quality sales leads?

August, 2003 -- In my case, as a licensed health insurance agent in Texas, I was frustrated by my inability to generate as many sales leads as I needed in order to have a successful health insurance business. I was chasing my own tail, spending countless hours on the phone cold calling, spending money on newspaper and radio ads, sending out mailers and networking at every opportunity. Everyone else I knew in the business was chasing those elusive sales leads using these same old tired techniques,

A Sales Lead Generation Web Site was my Solution

What is the best way to generate health insurance leads, life insurance leads, mortgage leads, mlm leads or business sales leads?

My breakthrough came from an unlikely source - my clients! I just had to ask to find out that more than 90% of them initiated their search for health insurance on the internet. That information was a revelation for me! I had purchased health insurance and life insurance leads from those huge sales lead generation companies and had been disappointed with both the quality and volume of sales generated from these pricey internet sales leads. I was naive enough two years ago to think a sales lead generation web site was a simple process!

Step by Step Business Sales Lead Generation

A business sales lead could be a health insurance lead, life insurance lead, mortgage lead, real estate lead, mlm lead or any kind of sales lead.

The sales generation concept is the same regardless of the type of sales lead. You have to make your presence known so people can find you first. Then you have to present a credible web presence. I didn't know anything about the internet sales lead generation process when I started. I got ripped off, taken advantage of and banned from one search engine while I was learning the ropes. Search engine optimization, keyword density, meta tags, html, css, rss --- heck, it was every bit Greek to me! Somewhere along the way, it started to make sense and the end result has been very satisfying!

My Inbox is Flooded with High Quality Sales Leads Every Day!

My Marketing Plan Runs Itself for Less than $2 per Sales Lead

In-Q-Tel Completes Strategic Investment and Technology Advancement Agreement With Forterra Systems to Accelerate Collaborative Virtual World Solutions: Strategic Investment Firm for the U. S. Intelligence Community Adds Forterra Systems to Prestigious Portfolio of Leading-Edge Innovation Companies

Forterra Systems, the market and technology leader in private virtual worlds, today announced a strategic investment and technology advancement agreement with In-Q-Tel, the independent strategic investment firm that identifies innovative technology solutions to support the mission of the broader U. S. Intelligence Community.

SAN MATEO, Calif. (PRWEB) September 27, 2007

Following this agreement, Forterra will further develop a set of additional capabilities that can be deployed on Forterra's core OLIVE(TM) (On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment) software platform for the purposes of enhancing OLIVE's utility for collaboration and training applications. OLIVE(TM) will provide a capability for users to leverage collaborative, 3D Internet solutions to accelerate time-to-insight.

"We are honored to enter into a strategic investment and technology advancement agreement with In-Q-Tel that will serve to enhance the already extensive capabilities of our OLIVE(TM) Platform," said David Rolston, CEO for Forterra Systems. "This agreement with In-Q-Tel is testimony to the fact that OLIVE has the potential to deliver high impact, transformational technologies that support the mission of the U. S. Intelligence Community.

The effort to extend the capabilities of Forterra's OLIVE(TM) Platform will include: the ability to import SketchUp models into OLIVE(TM); a network proxy that will enable OLIVE(TM) applications to run seamlessly through a wider range of firewall configurations, a 3-D conferencing and document sharing application; and additional 3-D content including scenery, avatars, buildings and other objects needed to support the new applications. Forterra will also integrate external instant messaging products with OLIVE to provide a common conferencing and document sharing facility for its virtual world users. Through this integration, users will be able to schedule meetings that enable participants to view and annotate documents. The white boarding of ideas will also be possible such that the board can be viewed simultaneously and securely by geographically distributed participants.

"Forterra has developed a technology platform and business model for virtual worlds that we believe is capable of supporting analytic transformation and the critical needs of the U. S. Intelligence Community as well as related applications in the private sector," said Steve Bowsher, Executive Vice President of Investments at In-Q-Tel. "Agreements like this with Forterra represent the best of public and private sector business models, designed to deliver innovative technologies to the U. S. Intelligence Community, linking them to new and emerging technologies in the commercial market and providing strategic incentives for companies like Forterra to develop and enhance technology solutions that benefit the federal government market as well as a broader commercial market."

Forterra's OLIVE Platform is uniquely suited to support both private sector and government customer collaboration needs. Government solutions built on Forterra's OLIVE(TM) Platform will allow users to quickly construct realistic scenarios, modify or augment the environment, conduct training and mission-rehearsal exercises, and review outcomes using integrated After Action Review (AAR). OLIVE's distributed simulation technology makes it an ideal platform for quickly transferring lessons learned between geographically dispersed units in rapidly changing operational conditions and for developing joint, interagency and multinational teams.

AgfaÂ’s sales an estimated EUR 4.2 billion in 2003

AgfaÂ’s sales an estimated EUR 4.2 billion in 2003.

Agfa-Gevaert (Agfa), headquartered in Mortsel, Belgium, is one of the world's leading imaging companies. Agfa develops and markets analogue and digital systems for the graphics, healthcare, micrographics, motion picture film and consumer photography markets.

(PRWEB) April 28, 2004

Research and Markets announces the addition of this new report entitled "Agfa Medical Device Company Intelligence Report" to its offerings.

Agfa-Gevaert (Agfa), headquartered in Mortsel, Belgium, is one of the world's leading imaging companies. Agfa develops and markets analogue and digital systems for the graphics, healthcare, micrographics, motion picture film and consumer photography markets. In fiscal 2003, AgfaÂ’s sales were EUR 4.2 billion, a drop of 10% from the prior year, although net profit increased by 66.5% to EUR 323 million.

This profile focuses on Agfa HealthCare which provides products and services designed to create a fully-integrated healthcare enterprise, including imaging systems, picture archiving communication systems (PACS), digital networks and radiology information systems (RIS).

Agfa HealthCare accounts for around 33% of AgfaÂ’s total group sales. In fiscal 2003, Agfa HealthCareÂ’s operations continued to grow, although HealthCare's revenue fell by 5.6% to EUR 1.4 billion as a result of exchange rate variances. Excluding currency effects, turnover increased by 3.8%. With only 43% of its turnover in Europe, HealthCare is AgfaÂ’s business unit which is most affected by the strength of the euro. Despite adverse currency effects, Agfa HealthCareÂ’s operating result increased to EUR 264 million, compared with EUR 223 million in 2002, while the return on sales reached 18.8%, compared with 15% in the previous year. Growth was driven by the conversion to digital imaging and the automation of the care process, as well as supply agreements with Premier and Novation which helped to boost US sales.

Steps were also were made to strengthen Agfa's position in the clinical specialities. Alliances were made with German company Hectec in the field of orthopaedics and Heartlab in cardiology. Agfa is integrating HectecÂ’s software for orthopaedic surgical planning in its Impax for orthopaedics. In cardiology, Agfa and Heartlab, a designer of cardiac image and information management software, are developing the next generation of AgfaÂ’s Impax systems for cardiology which will be launched in 2004. At the RSNA in November 2003, Agfa unveiled Impax ES, a radiology IT solution with integrated RIS and speech reporting capabilities and the works-in-progress Impax WEB 1000 ES, which extends the benefits of web-based results distribution from radiology to cardiology and womenÂ’s care (see Research and Development).

In 2003, Agfa extended its range of dry hardcopy printers with the Drystar 5500, a high-resolution printer which offers higher throughput. This was followed at the beginning of fiscal 2004 with the introduction of the Drystar 5300, a tabletop printer designed to provide a decentralised hardcopy solution. In computed radiography (CR), Agfa introduced the new ADC M40 reusable imaging plate, offering superior image quality and longevity, according to Agfa. In womenÂ’s care, Agfa introduced its new mammography systems, the Embrace CR and the fully-digital Embrace DR system. In addition, as a result of an agreement, R2 Technology's computer aided diagnosis system is now distributed as part of Agfa's digital mammography solution.

America's Promise Alliance and the ING Foundation Begin Search for This Year's 100 Best Communities for Young People

America's Promise Alliance and the ING Foundation Begin Search for This Year's 100 Best Communities for Young People

Competition Recognizes Nation’s Top Communities Taking Action to Help Reduce High School Dropout Rates and Create Brighter Futures for Young People

Washington, D. C. (Vocus) February 26, 2010

America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance) and the ING Foundation today announced the official call for entries for the 2010 100 Best Communities for Young People (100 Best) competition. The Alliance and the ING Foundation seek to recognize 100 American cities and towns whose top priority is keeping children in school and helping end the nation’s dropout crisis through innovative programs that are addressing everyday challenges facing young people and creating better places for them to live and grow.

Interested communities can apply March 1 through June 1, 2010, online at http://www. americaspromise. org/100best. The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Get on the Map,’ as the winners will be recognized in September at a Washington, D. C. ceremony marking each winning community on the U. S. map. Winners will also receive two road signs designating the community as one of the 100 Best, logistical and financial support for a local celebration, as well as national publicity.

“A 100 Best community is one that is working together and taking real action to develop confident, resilient young people ready for college and the 21st century workforce,” said Marguerite W. Kondracke, president and CEO of America’s Promise Alliance. “This competition is an opportunity to nationally recognize and reward commitment to young people and offer these cities and towns as an example for the rest of the country.”

More than 7,000 students drop out each school day in the U. S. resulting in 1.3 million young people a year. To help decrease these numbers, the Alliance and the ING Foundation, the competition’s presenting sponsor, are more committed than ever to recognizing communities—regardless of size, location or history—that are taking real action to help more young people stay in school and graduate on time. First held in 2005, 100 Best honors progress being made to help young people achieve their potential, which includes earning a diploma, getting a good job, and playing an active, productive role in America’s economic vitality.

“ING shares the Alliance’s passion to invest in the development and future of America’s young people,” said Rhonda Mims, president of the ING Foundation and senior vice president of ING’s Office of Corporate Responsibility and Multicultural Affairs. “We encourage every community across the U. S. to strive for 100 Best distinction, take meaningful steps to reduce local dropout rates and help open new doors for neighborhood youth.”

Earning the 100 Best distinction not only demonstrates commitment to local young people; the award fosters local pride, bolsters economic development and shines the spotlight on the people and programs that are building better communities. The competition also facilitates the sharing of best practices among communities nationwide regarding education, access to health care, reading score improvement, youth service, pre-school enrollment and more.

Community representatives are encouraged to log on and download the application early in order to gather the resources and information necessary to enter. Technical support conference calls and Webinars are regularly scheduled to answer questions and clarify the nomination process. Additional information can be found at http://www. americaspromise. org/100best.

Through the collective power of our partner network, we raise awareness, support communities and engage in nonpartisan advocacy to ensure that young people receive more of the fundamental resources they need to graduate high school prepared for college, work and life. Building on the legacy of our Founding Chairman General Colin Powell, the Alliance believes the success of our young people is grounded in the Five Promises—caring adults; safe places; a healthy start; an effective education; and opportunities to help others. Travelers With Food Allergies Can Now Choose From 12 Languages and 37 Foods

Travelers With Food Allergies Can Now Choose From 12 Languages and 37 Foods

SelectWisely. com has expanded its food translation card line to include Chinese, Greek and 10 new problem foods - bringing the total food offerings to 37 and languages to 12.

WAYNE, NJ (PRWEB) September 20, 2004 -

SelectWisely. com has expanded its food translation card line to include Chinese, Greek and 10 new problem foods - bringing the total food offerings to 37 and languages to 12.

“We listen to our customers when it comes to new foods and language offerings”, says Pam Ahlberg, president of SelectWisely. “Many travelers have requested Chinese translations for trips to Hong Kong and Mainland China. They have also identified new problem foods that we were not aware of, such as mushrooms.”

One of the great pleasures of traveling in a foreign country is the opportunity to taste the local cuisine. But for anyone with a food allergy or sensitivity, dining in a foreign country can be an uncertain or, at worst, dangerous proposition. According to the National Institutes of Health between 30 and 50 million Americans have some kind of food allergy, intolerance or sensitivity. Reactions to problem foods range from stomach pain to hives to life-threatening anaphylaxis. For any of these individuals, dining in a foreign-speaking country presents a serious challenge.

SelectWisely offers wallet-sized, laminated translation cards to individuals with food allergies, sensitivities or restrictions traveling in countries where they don't speak the language. By visiting the SelectWisely web site, they can create a customized card specific to their needs.

The translation cards contain sentences in specific languages stating what food or foods an individual needs to avoid. For example, if they plan to visit Italy and are allergic to shellfish, the SelectWisely web tool allows them to specify “Italian” and “shellfish” and order a card with the exact information needed to communicate a shellfish allergy in Italian.

SelectWisely now offers cards in:

· 12 different languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Greek, German, Russian, Polish, 2 forms of Chinese, 2 forms of Portuguese and English)

· 40 different foods (all common allergy foods such as nuts, milk, shellfish, wheat and eggs and as well as less common foods such as pine nuts, mushrooms and peas)

· 6 different card types (single languages and multiple languages/foods per card)

About SelectWisely

Launched in 2004, SelectWisely provides customized food allergy translation cards to people who need help communicating their food preferences while traveling in foreign-speaking countries. MENLO PARK, Calif. (PRWEB) December 12, 2007

More than 50 representatives from the technology industry, policy organizations and the press turned out today for a panel discussion hosted by Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq:JAVA) regarding privacy in the participatory web era that Sun refers to as the "Network of You."

The panelists shared their perspectives on the challenges and potential solutions to protect individual privacy in an age in which more and more personal information is moving onto the Internet, ranging from financial data to health records to family photos.

Acting as moderator, Dr. Moira Gunn raised several hot-button issues, including the role of companies in protecting their employees' and their customers' privacy, the impact of existing legislation and need for standardized regulations, and how social networking sites have increased privacy risks, particularly for young people. In addition, the panelists discussed global implications for privacy with regard to cultural differences, offshoring and outsourcing, harmonization of identity standards, and the importance of education, processes, and technology to safeguard privacy.

By and large the panelists agreed that protecting privacy is an inevitable challenge in a free society. "Secrecy is different from privacy, which is a managed asset," noted Michelle Dennedy, Chief Privacy Officer, Sun Microsystems. "We must expand the way we think about privacy and talk about personal information management. As we continue to develop our laws, knowledge, and technologies in the Network of You, there's a greater need to allow individuals more calibrated controls over their personal privacy."

TCL Institute, LLC, Leading Medical Education Provider, Receives Accreditation With Commendation by the ACCME as a Provider of Continuing Medical Education

TCL Institute, LLC Receives Accreditation With Commendation Under New ACCME Standards

Cary, NC (PRWEB) January 17, 2011

Jennifer Spear Smith, PhD, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Melissa Wiles, Vice President of Educational Design and Strategic Alliances, are pleased to announce that TCL Institute, LLC (TCL) has received accreditation with commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education (CME).

TCL is one of the few medical education companies to receive accreditation with commendation, or Level 3 accreditation status, under the new standards and is among the top 8% of all CME providers in the United States to share this distinction. This places TCL in the top tier of CME providers and among the ranks of the nation’s most prestigious medical schools, hospitals, and professional medical societies.

ACCME-accredited providers certify educational activities for American Medical Association’s Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA PRA) Category 1 CreditTM, which is the CME standard for licensing boards and boards of medical specialties to re-license and re-certify physicians.

TCL’s CEO, Dr. Jennifer Spear Smith, PhD, says, “We are excited to have moved from our two-year provisional approval status directly to accreditation with commendation. Fitness experts are debuting BodyWeightCulture. com, a free outlet to fitness utopia. Combining decades of experience and testing in the field of exercise physiology, they created a website that offers a one stop access to all sought for resources on exercise and fitness programs, instructional and inspirational videos. The appeal missing from Yoga & Pilates finally surfaces in this website's more dynamic, effective and extremely straight forward options.

Growing rapidly BodyWeightCulture. com attracts members of any fitness level and agenda. Whether it is support, physical fitness, or inspiration, visitors of BodyWeightCulture. com find suitable solutions to fulfil individual wellness goals. BodyWeightCulture. com requires neither gym membership nor purchase of any equipment; it is designed with everyone in mind and is completely free of charge.

Every exercise demonstrated by BodyWeightCulture. com's Gurus utilizes the resistance of one's own body weight. Every level in each of the programs offered is precisely calculated to incorporate all the muscle groups, for a complete and total body workout. Featured regimens cater to all levels - give participants a chance to get back on track after years of not working out, gradually glide into an intermediate level for those in good physical shape and finally draw to a close with an "Advanced Health Nut" level.

There is something for the go getters as well, such as a program that reveals "How to do 100 push ups in under 10 weeks" or "How to do a perfect one arm push up and develop real power of a fictional kung fu character." For ostentatious visitors, a piece on "How to develop a nice formed chest, well shaped back, and sexy shoulders" is a yearned for fix.

Those with children will now find playground twice as rewarding. Most exercises offered by BodyWeightCulture. com's gurus can easily be incorporated into the quality time spent together.

BodyWeightCulture. com is a website designed to instruct the general public on how to use the assets otherwise tied up in their bodies as a tool to help in exercising. Established in 2006, in New York City, USA, the site has grown from strength to strength with more than 3000 registered members and more than 50,000 page hits a month.

OCS HomeCare and DecisionHealth Announce the 2010 HomeCare Elite Top 25 Percent of U. S. Home Health Agencies

OCS HomeCare and DecisionHealth Announce the 2010 HomeCare Elite Top 25 Percent of U. S. Home Health Agencies

The HomeCare Elite highlights the top 25 percent of home health care agencies and has become the industry standard for measuring organizational performance. The 2010 HomeCare Elite also recognizes the top 100 and top 500 providers nationwide. OCS HomeCare publishes a complete HomeCare Elite list that is available for download.

Seattle, WA (Vocus) October 5, 2010

OCS HomeCare and DecisionHealth® are pleased to announce the 2010 HomeCare Elite™, a compilation of the top performing home health agencies in the United States. Now in its fifth year, the market-leading 2010 HomeCare Elite list is currently available to download from the OCS HomeCare website.

The HomeCare Elite annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies nationwide and further highlights the top 100 and top 500 agencies overall. Winners are ranked by an analysis of measures in quality of care, quality improvement, and financial performance.

“For five years, the HomeCare Elite has established the industry standard for identifying home health care agencies that perform at the highest level,” says Amanda Twiss, CEO of OCS HomeCare. “We congratulate the 2010 HomeCare Elite for their continued success and commitment to high quality of care and strong financial performance.”

“The 2010 HomeCare Elite have been able to provide quality care to patients while achieving positive financial outcomes, which has not been easy during the recent recession,” says Corinne Kuypers-Denlinger, DecisionHealth vice president of home health. “The top 25 percent of agencies deserve this special recognition.”

Some interesting data points round out the fifth anniversary of the HomeCare Elite. There were 9,375 Medicare-certified home health agencies in the U. S. with sufficient data to be considered for the 2010 HomeCare Elite. This represents an increase of 483 from 8,892 home care agencies that were eligible last year. Of the 2,347 agencies that were identified as the top 25 percent for the 2010 HomeCare Elite list, 1,503 are repeat agencies from 2009. Further, 222 agencies in this year’s top 500 appeared in 2009. Plus, only 31 of this year’s top 100 returned from last year’s top 100.

It is worth noting that 452 home care agencies have appeared on the HomeCare Elite list all five years. In addition, 11 agencies have appeared in the top 500 all five years. And finally, only one home health agency in the entire country has been recognized as a top 100 agency for all five years—Parkview Homecare of Pueblo, Colorado.

“We are speechless and very excited,” says Kelea Nardini, director of Parkview Homecare. “This would not be possible without the commitment from senior management and our caregivers to providing quality care to our patients. We are constantly striving toward excellence in quality of care. We have been partners with OCS for five years, using the data to manage and improve our overall outcomes and quality. The data and information from OCS has really helped our overall success.”

OCS HomeCare uses publicly available data from Home Health Compare and the CMS Cost Reports to create the HomeCare Elite list of agencies. Three domains of performance were cumulatively evaluated—quality of care, quality improvement, and financial performance. The quality of care measure indexes agency performance in each of the 12 publicly reported Home Health Compare measures released in April 2010. The quality improvement index is based on changes in the 12 outcomes between data released in September 2009 and April 2010. The financial performance measure represents agency indexed profit margin from the 2009 CMS Cost Reports (or adjusted 2008 results when 2009 data was not available).

Agency performance in each of the three domains was compared against the performance of other organizations in their state and in the country. The three domains were combined into one overall score, using a weighting methodology that gives the greatest importance to quality of care. The top 25 percent of agencies in each region, both facility-based and free standing were identified and added to the national list.

While the 2010 HomeCare Elite list is free to download, OCS HomeCare has a special limited-time offer for U. S. agencies to purchase a HomeCare Elite Analysis Report for only $99. The HomeCare Elite Analysis Report highlights an agency’s scores within the three HomeCare Elite performance measures: quality of care, quality improvement, and financial performance. Plus, agencies can compare their scores to the 2010 HomeCare Elite and the overall performance averages in their home state.

For agencies that want tips on how to achieve quality clinical and financial outcomes as the HomeCare Elite agencies do, DecisionHealth offers the HomeCare Elite Essentials Package. It includes the HomeCare Elite Handbook and two audio CDs of case studies from HomeCare Elite agencies.

Innovative Service Provides Online Consumers with Local Health Insurance Referrals

Innovative Service Provides Online Consumers with Local Health Insurance Referrals

Today, Arizona's justifiably leery consumers, have access to a reliable partner to assist them in their search for cost-effective health care and health insurance alternatives and opportunities on the web.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) May 28, 2005

Today, Arizona's justifiably leery consumers, have access to a reliable partner to assist them in their search for cost-effective health care and health insurance alternatives and opportunities on the web. 100% free and readily available to every Arizonan, the range of medical indemnity rates comparison services offered by Arizona Health Insurance Quote can put the most competitive insurance shopping and healthcare research tools available at every consumerÂ’s fingertips at: http://www. lowcosthealthins. com (http://www. lowcosthealthins. com).

With seemingly every cost associated with health care services or medical insurance programs spiraling upwards without constraint, far too many consumers and employee benefit plan sponsors view comprehensive health care coverage as all but prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, that’s simply not the case for the majority of Arizona’s consumers, for them, the barriers to affordable health coverage revolve around their inability to restore the competitiveness on which the insurance system once thrived. Even though a few of us might choose to pin health insurance’s current sorry state of affairs on the overall condition of Arizona’s economy or simply on the mounting cost of general medical care or even on the recent implementation of a series of unpopular federal programs—blamed for slowly eating away at the affordability ratios of small business-sponsored group health policies. What’s indisputably true however is that a basic lack of that abovementioned competition—that has resulted from major health indemnity carriers consolidated their home market’s, is the primary locus of the forces that’s kept millions of Arizonans from obtaining the health insurance protection they so clearly need.

By far the most troubling aspect of the crisis the absence of indemnity competitiveness represents is the simple fact that unless the marketplace makes some adjustment to reintroduce it - the problems facing uninsured Arizonans, from Scottsdale and Tempe to Flagstaff and Tucson, will continue to mount. Between our stateÂ’s growing and increasingly diverse population, a still in recovery national economy and an unfortunate penchant for permitting relatively undetectable corporate mergers, our healthcare system seems to be conspiring to drive medical insurance premiums ever higher, leaving ArizonaÂ’s consumers with a less significant variety of economical healthcare resources. There are unfortunately, also more than a few widely held public misperceptions concerning both the quality and accessibility of various general health and major medical insurance offerings that contribute our problems. These have had such a pervasive effect that even those consumers who live only blocks away from an independent health insurance agency, with the freedom to match their needs up with an affordable health plan, are commonly unable to pick them out of the crowd. But, recently Arizona residents have been getting help with all of those issues and more from http://www. lowcosthealthins. com (http://www. lowcosthealthins. com)

The opportunity they’re providing online has allowed consumers across the Grand Canyon State to effectively compare multiple heath indemnity quotes from a broad selection of insurance carriers in relative anonymity. There are an obvious number of consumer-comfort benefits inherent in an assurance quoting process that was exclusively designed to ensure that consumers would be aware of precisely what their health and well-being alternatives are, in addition to providing a flat-out simpler way to health premium comparison shop–Arizona Health Insurance Quote gives consumers access to:

A one-hundred percent free resource, packed with one-hundred percent unbiased health care related, health indemnity carrier and general medical insurance info as well as impartial tools with which ArizonaÂ’s consumers will be able to evaluate a variety of benefits and disadvantages associated with a wide selection of major medical indemnity plans.

A resource that can leave them 100% certain that they wonÂ’t be over-paying for their healthcare insurance needs. With health care related costs across the state rising steadily, consumers here in Arizona clearly need a better way to find out if they could qualify for lower premiums or a more comprehensive health plan.

By providing all of the above and more, the Grand Canyon State’s newest on-line consumer-information resource, http://www. lowcosthealthins. com (http://www. lowcosthealthins. com) has targeted all of its substantial resources toward ensuring that consumers here have a safe place to get the best available individual and family health, whole and tern life, major medical, disability, dental, long-term-care and income protection insurance info from a completely unbiased source. And, more importantly Low Cost Health Ins also offers all of the resources health care shoppers across the sate will need to connect with neighborhood agencies willing to go the extra mile to find an affordably priced insurance package that’ll be perfect for their particular needs. With employers steadily reversing their former practice of absorbing insurance premium increases, it should come as no surprise that large numbers of understandably worried consumers are increasingly turning to services such as Low Cost Health Ins—for unaffiliated health quotes, general health care information and to help them in their search for a reputable and experienced locally-based insurance agency.

About Low Cost Health Ins

Low Cost Health Ins was created to provide its home stateÂ’s health insurance consumers with 100% free health indemnity quotes from a range of highly-regarded medical insurance carriers, matching health care patrons from Flagstaff and Scottsdale to Tucson and Tempe with the health carrier and health plan best suited to their needs.
