First Annual Health and Wellness Expo to be Held at Newgate Mall



The 2005 Health and Wellness Expo will be held January 6-8 at Newgate Mall, presented by Gym Hardwear. Admission is free.

The 2005 Health and Wellness Expo will be held January 6-8 at Newgate Mall, presented by Gym Hardwear. Admission is free. "With this expo, we hope to inspire those who attend that being healthy is just as important as any of their daily routines," said Gym Hardwear co-owner Casey Montoya.



"We have the most popular bodybuilder in the world under contract," Montoya said. "Gunter Schlierkamp will be doing posing demonstrations along with answering questions on health and nutrition as well as workouts. We also have cheerleaders and tumblers doing various routines." The schedule starts Friday at 3 PM with the tumblers. The cheerleaders demonstration will be at 3:30 PM, followed by Schlierkamp at 4:00 PM. The entire program will be repeated at 7 PM. "We are a new high performance athletic apparel company. We sell products ranging from casual to the most extreme apparel. Vendor spaces are still available for those who wish to display and sell their products on these days. The booth spaces are 10 x15 feet, and cost only $500. "We are only selling booth spaces to those in the health and wellness field," Montoya said. "For example, nutrition stores, gyms, hair salons, chiropractors, plastic surgeons, etc.

Award recipient is one of the world’s foremost authorities on pediatrics and child development

Boston Children’s Museum will present T. Berry Brazelton, MD the Nan Bennett Kay Great Friends to Kids award Monday, October 25 at 6 PM during the Museum’s annual meeting.



The Museum established the Nan Bennett Kay Great Friends to Kids award to honor powerful advocates for children and youth in education, sports, nutrition or the arts, whose values, style and persistence evoke Nan’s spirit and memory. Nan Bennett Kay was an advocate for children and past chair of the Museum’s board. Dr. Brazelton was chosen for this award because of his long-time leadership and dedication to the healthy development of children and families. .



“Dr. Brazelton’s accomplishments are unmatched in his field. He is a distinguished champion for children in Greater Boston and around the world, and he exemplifies the spirit and memory of Nan Bennett Kay,” said Carole Charnow, Boston Children’s Museum President and CEO.



T. Berry Brazelton, MD, Professor of Pediatrics Emeritus at Harvard Medical School, is one of the world’s foremost authorities on pediatrics and child development. Author of over 200 scholarly papers, he has also written 40 books on pediatrics, child development, and parenting. Translated into more than 20 languages, these include the now classic Infants and Mothers, and the bestselling Touchpoints series. His ground breaking Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS) is now used worldwide to recognize the physical and neurological responses of newborns, as well as emotional well being and individual differences. In 1993, he founded the Brazelton Touchpoints Center® (BTC) at Children’s Hospital, Boston where he continues to promote strengths-based, family-centered care in pediatric and early education settings around the world.



Previous award recipients have included Reverend Dr. Ray Hammond, Reverend Dr. Gloria White-Hammond, Marta Rosa and Earl Phalen. The award ceremony and annual meeting will take place at Boston Children’s Museum’s atrium.
