The Evergreen State College Campus ChildrenÂ’s Center Opens New Facility to Public for Summer Enrollment

The Evergreen State College Campus ChildrenÂ’s Center is now extending enrollment opportunities in their nationally accredited (NYAEC) childcare program to the public for summer. The opening of the new environmentally designed building and playground brings more space and rare vacancies to the popular program that usually boasts a long waiting list for students and staff of the Evergreen State College. The expansion allows the ChildrenÂ’s Center to share the Evergreen experience with families outside of the college for the first time, while fulfilling the demand for high quality summer child care and school readiness programs in the community.

The Children’s Center has a unique, child and family centered philosophy that values diversity, respects the environment, supports individual growth, and encourages natural development. “We are committed to creating an environment of joy where the talents of children and adults are recognized, nurtured, and celebrated,” says Michael Harris, Director of the Children’s Center. The curriculum is loosely structured giving children the opportunity to learn naturally at their own pace through play. Experienced, nurturing, teachers with training in early childhood education, provide fun activities and themes to help children build social and academic skills. Summer activities will include exciting field trips on the beautiful, wooded, Evergreen State College Campus, picnics, water play, and a variety of art, literacy, and creative play experiences.

With the opening of its new doors this summer, the ChildrenÂ’s Center is also launching its new Infant/Parent Program, “Come Play With Me,” a series of fun classes for parents and their babies facilitated by experienced infant educator Marilyn Fuller. Ongoing classes will offer parents the opportunity to learn about infant development through interactive play, bonding, and socialization with other parents and babies. Parents will also learn how to make home made toys, play stimulating games, and practice basic infant massage techniques.

The Evergreen State College Campus ChildrenÂ’s Center currently has full and part time openings for children ages 1-7 and a limited number of spaces in the Infant/Parent Program. USDA approved organic lunches and healthy snacks are provided. Reasonable rates, DSHS accepted. For more information or to enroll your child call 360-867-6060.
