Dr. Phillip Chang, M. D., a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Lansdowne, Virginia chaired a round-table discussion at the Cosmetic Surgery Conference in Laguna Beach, California about the dangerous developing trend of non Plastic Surgery Specialties such as Oral Surgeons, ENT Surgeons, and Gynecologists misrepresenting themselves to the public as Board Certified Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Phillip Chang, M. D., a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is the Director of the Aesthetica Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center was recently voted as one of the top doctors in Northern Virginia by Health and Beauty Magazine. The survey was taken by his physician peers. Dr. Chang has recently lectured on his techniques in performing the " one hour rhinoplasty " procedure as well as his innovations in performing the " Harmony Mini Facelift " and minimal scar breast procedures. He was honored recently by Allergan to be the only Platinum Plus provider in Norther Virginia.

Dr. Phillip Chang chaired the round-table discussion on the dangerous trend of other medical practitioners portraying themselves as plastic surgeons. They concluded that potential patients need to be better educated on what constituted a board certified plastic surgeon. They emphasized that patients need to understand that Oral Surgeons, ENT Surgeons, and Gynecologists will often mislead the public by referring to themselves as plastic surgeons. They will advertise that they are "board certified" without stating that they are board certified in oral surgery for example.

He cited that there are at least two groups in Lansdowne who refer to themselves as cosmetic surgeons. They perform breast surgery as well as tummy tucks without having local hospital admitting privileges. Their advertisements state they are board certified but fail to state they are board certified in oral surgery. As he put it, if you wouldn't go to a mechanic for your dental work, why would you let a dentist work on your face or body. You have to be careful in researching the credentials of your medical and cosmetic providers.
