“BARK IN THE PARK” – May 27, 2006



Saturday, May 27, 2006, Cobb County Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a “Dog Day” event from 9:00 A. M. to 5:00 P. M. at Jim R. Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, S. W., Marietta, GA.. The Kennesaw Kennel Club, Inc., a licensed Club of the American Kennel Club, is coordinating the event. For more information please call Joyce Gibson at (770) 427-6763 or Pat Wahl at (770)-425-5412. Admission is free to the public and their dogs. Activities that will be ongoing throughout the day will include Agility, Cart Pulling, Door Prize Drawings, Doggy “Fun Contest”, Earth Dog, Fly Ball, Obedience, Police dogs. The Doggy “Fun Contest” will include competitions such as dogs with the longest or shortest tail, biggest or smallest dog, dog with most colors, longest ears, longest or shortest coat, longest or shortest nose, and dog that looks most like its owner. Nominal charges may be required for participation in certain events.

Several health clinics will be available. Dr. Charles Martin from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine (eyevet1@bellsouth. net) will be doing an eye CERF Clinic for $20.00 per dog, and Dr. Gilbert Jacobs from Jacobs Veterinary Consulting in Athens, GA (ghawk5@bellsouth. net) is conducting a CARDIOLOGY Clinic at $25.00 per dog.



The Henry County Humane Society (http://www. henryhumane. com/contact. htm (http://www. henryhumane. com/contact. htm) (or) info@henrycountyhumane. com ) will be conducting a MICROCHIP Clinic for $30.00 - $40.00 per dog. Pre-registration, which is requested for all Clinics, can be done by using the above e-mail addresses.



Rabies Clinic, Dr. Dorsey, from 9:00 AM till 2:00 PM sponsored by The Atlanta Humane Society SPCA of Georgia for $10.00 per dog.



Canine Good Citizenship Testing: will be conducted by AKC certified testers. These tests are a series of exercises in which the dog and its owner prove they are responsible citizens. The dog must do such things as walk by the person’s side, sit, be apart from the owner for a few minutes and stroll on leash around gathering of people without being upset by walkers, umbrellas or unexpected noises. Upon passing, the animal receives a diploma from the American Kennel Club and is entitled to wear a tag proving it is a CGC dog. These animals many times are used as registered therapy dogs. Free information for the public on where to acquire a dog, dog training, hiking with your dog and pamphlets on dog care and AKC events like dog shows, hunting tests, field agility, obedience trials, along with many specific breed clubs, rescue organizations and adoption groups can be found inside the “A” Building. $100.00 Prize for “Best Decorated Table” from these groups



Vendors selling dog related items or services will be located in the central Pod area of the Park. Jim Miller Park’s Food Concessionaire will be there with wonderful foods including barbeque, hamburgers, hotdogs, blooming onions, French fries, funnel cakes, and homemade ice cream, to satisfy everyone’s palate.



PLEASE NOTE: In the interest of public safety, dogs must be under the control of the owner at all times and restrained by leads not exceeding six (6) feet in length. No flexi-leads allowed. Uncontrolled or overly aggressive animals may be asked to leave the park by Park Security.
