First College Certified Yoga Therapy Course Graduates 35 Students from Loyola Marymount



35 students graduate from the Yoga Therapy Rx™ Level I Program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, the first yoga therapy college certificate program in the nation.

Thirty-five students from Loyola Marymount University are the first graduates of the only college certified Yoga therapy course in the United States. The students received graduation certificates from the Yoga Therapy Rx Level I Program and continuing education credit after completing the one-year course in September 2006. Larry Payne, Ph. D., a pioneer in Yoga therapy, founded and directed the program through the LMU extension at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. The Co-founder of the program at LMU is Christopher Chapple, Ph. D., professor of theology and Associate Academic Vice-President of the LMU Extension.



Twenty-seven students will go on to level II, also a one-year program. Another 30 students are scheduled for the next level I program starting in October 2006.



Yoga Therapy Rx is a marriage between Yoga therapy and complementary medicine. It is designed to train Yoga teachers to be Yoga therapists and apply classical applications of Yoga for use in clinical settings to help treat common ailments and conditions. This groundbreaking program equips graduates with the skills to work with various medical specialists, chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists and psychologists.



Level one focuses on the musculoskeletal system and Level II, the following year, includes the other body systems as detailed in Yoga Rx (Broadway Books), written by Larry Payne, Ph. D. and Richard Usatine, M. D.



The Yoga therapy Rx program includes an outstanding team of health professionals with specialized skills particularly suited for Yoga therapy. Rick Morris, D. C. is associate director of the level I program and Richard Usatine, M. D is associate director of the level II program. Other guest physicians and instructors include: Kathryn Gil, M.
