Burke Rehabilitation at United Hebrew of New Rochelle Tracking Outcome Measures for Success

United Hebrew of New Rochelle patients are treated on a dedicated short term rehab floor with private rooms. The focus of Burke Rehabilitation at United Hebrew is on discharging the patient home in the shortest amount of time possible, at the greatest level of independence. The staff have found that their patients do better because the staff tracks the outcomes of the patients’ progress and adjusts treatment protocols accordingly. The rehabilitation staff utilizes rehabilitative measurement tools to objectively measure patients’ functional status.

New Rochelle, New York (Vocus/PRWEB) January 19, 2011

Several years ago United Hebrew of New Rochelle, a premier long term care campus, made a firm commitment to offer the best rehabilitation possible. As Rita Mabli, president/CEO of United Hebrew said, “I knew that United Hebrew had exemplary nursing care and was planning to build our new pavilion. In order to be at the very pinnacle of rehab, we wanted to work with Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.” Nationally recognized Burke is now an integral part of United Hebrew of New Rochelle and United Hebrew has seen short term rehabilitationadmissions grow at a rapid rate.

Whether a patient is recovering from surgery, coping with chronic illness, knee or hip replacement, brain or spinal cord injury, the physical and occupational therapists are cross trained in rehab methods and are committed to maximizing the recovery of each patient. The focus of Burke Rehabilitation at United Hebrew is on getting the patient home in the shortest amount of time possible, at the greatest level of independence.

Physical Therapist, Dr. Nora O’Brien, Director of Burke Rehabilitation at United Hebrew of New Rochelle, and her Burke Rehabilitation trained staff, have found that the patients do better because the staff tracks the outcomes of the patients’ progress and adjusts treatment protocols accordingly. The rehabilitation staff utilizes rehabilitative measurement tools to objectively measure patients’ functional status.

“We are focused on the use of measurement tools to track our patients’ status,” said Dr. O’Brien. “We have found that the tools quantify progress which allows us to provide the most appropriate therapy.”

Each individual success story is measured and recorded. United Hebrew has measured its average length of stay after a hip replacement at 13 days and after a knee replacement at 16 days. The length of stay has decreased over time and the staff is continually working towards decreasing the amount of time a patient needs to stay on the rehabilitation floor. Their use of advanced measurement tools also assists the therapist in defining the rehabilitative treatment.

Dr. O’Brien’s high energy, enthusiasm and passion for her profession is evident when she tells the story of a healthy active man, who fell on the way to his doctor’s office for a routine visit. That “simple fall” left him a quadriplegic, with little hope of moving his arms or legs again. The hospital had given him little chance of improvement. Then he met Dr. O’Brien and her team at United Hebrew of New Rochelle. The highly trained therapists along with the experienced nurses helped him regain movement in both of his legs and he began to move both arms.

“He is now able to push himself up with assistance and proudly stand,” gushes Dr O’Brien, “It is just one example of the miracles that happen here every day. United Hebrew’s expertise and commitment to care is the very essence of our core philosophy.”

United Hebrew is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, multiservice senior living campus located on 7.4 acre campus in New Rochelle, New York. The new nursing homeand rehabilitation pavilion which opened in 2009, offers a dedicated Short Term Rehabilitation floor with private rooms. The new state-of-the-art pavilion offers spacious, bright private rooms, sweeping views of the Sound, and a courtyard garden. On each floor cozy dining rooms and inviting sitting rooms contribute to the neighborhood atmosphere. Exemplary care is provided by United Hebrew’s multi-disciplinary staff, many with 20+ years at the organization.

Recently United Hebrew was awarded five out of five stars by the United States Center on Medicare Services for quality care. In addition, United Hebrewof New Rochelle was ranked in the top 4 percent of nursing home facilities by New York State Department of Health for providing exemplary care to their residents. United Hebrew was the only long-term carefacility for older adults in Westchester County to receive this award and recognition.

Executive Onboarding? According to Bill Epifanio, 'Closing the Sale is a Delicate and Revealing Process'

Executive Onboarding? According to Bill Epifanio, 'Closing the Sale is a Delicate and Revealing Process'

In a recent Leadership Podcast on TotalPicture Radio, Bill Epifanio explains his approach to "making the right offer, closing the right sale, the right way," when presenting a key executive with a job offer. Epifanio, a top level executive search consultant, specializes in the Clean Tech, Renewable Energy and Financial Tech sectors.

Westport, CT (PRWEB) November 18, 2009

In a Leadership Podcast on TotalPicture Radio, Bill Epifanio explains his approach to "making the right offer, closing the right sale, the right way," when presenting a key executive with a job offer. Epifanio, a top level executive search consultant, specializes in the Clean Tech, Renewable Energy and Financial Tech sectors. He is managing partner with Stratis, a human capital consulting and search firm.

Most economists agree the economic recovery we've experienced in the U. S. has been relatively "jobless." Recruiters are blunt with their observation: 2009 was a terrible year for staffing and executive search firms, and the HR industry. In a new "Onboarding Experts Series (http://www. totalpicture. com/shows/recruiting/)" podcast on TotalPicture Radio, Bill Epifanio offers a more nuanced, more strategic assessment. Epifanio plainly states, "There's always a talent war for A players, most of whom are happily and successfully employed."

According to Epifanio, "One of the real challenges and primary added values of executive search consultants is our ability to encourage totally uninterested, passive candidates to consider new opportunities." When asked about the current economic climate, Epifanio responded, "Current economic conditions make hiring difficult. That said, every placement I've made over the past several years started with a conversation with someone who assured me they were very happy with their current position and not at all interested in the job I was presenting. If anything, that attitude has only intensified."

Epifanio is Managing Partner of Stratis, a human capital consulting and search firm (http://stratis1.com/) specializing in executive level placements in FinTech (financial technology), CleanTech, and Renewable Energy. "CleanTech has received significant stimulus support from the Obama administration, and is one of the largest recipients of both venture capital and private equity investment over the last 12 to 24 months," Epifanio told Peter Clayton, the host of TotalPicture Radio. "Clean energy alone attracted combined venture cap and private equity investments of over $13.5 billion in 2008. Along with all that money are new opportunities and upgrades to management teams."

Considering the companies Epifanio's firm conducts searches for are relatively new industries, Clayton wanted to know where Epifanio was able to find talent for the leadership positions he's retained to fill. "Generally speaking, that answer depends on the size and the stage of the company you’re recruiting for," Epifanio responded. "Since many of my clients are entrepreneurial growth companies backed by venture capital or private equity firms, I typically start my search looking for talented executives among my client’s competitors. Next, I’ll investigate adjacent and related sectors." Asked what has surprised him in recent searches conducted for FinTech, CleanTech, and the Renewable sectors (http://stratis1.com/clients. html), Epifanio paused, and said, "One lesson I’ve learned is not to underestimate the added value of domain expertise and relevant industry contacts the new hire can deliver to their new employer."

A "must have" factor for Epifanio is demonstrated entrepreneurial success. "It’s that entrepreneurial component that I find is key." He told Clayton. "Frankly, I'm not interested in repotting a terrifically successful investment banker who has never run a company or a division into a senior role of a growth company."

The interview on TotalPicture Radio, (a popular career and leadership development podcast), expands upon Epifanio's "Guest Expert" contribution to Onboarding: How to Get Your New Employees Up to Speed in Half the Time, (http://www. amazon. com/gp/product/0470485817?ie=UTF8&tag=totalpicture-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0470485817) by George Bradt and Mary Vonnegut. The new book serves as a "how to" for hiring managers. Epifanio outlines his experience and advice on how to "close the sale" to hire the best, most qualified executive. He describes the "Kool-Aid Gap," adding, "once an employer makes an offer they’re role flips from being a buyer to a seller and frankly, some employers forget this. In this economy, employers often mistakenly assume their companies are so wonderful that no additional selling is necessary. Nothing could be further from the truth." Epifanio cautions hiring managers in the interview, "Making the offer and closing the sale the right way is a delicate process. Never assume your candidate sees the company through your eyes. Remember, once you make an offer, your role has just changed from that of buyer to seller, which can be easily overlooked."

Epifanio urges employers to “pay attention to the many signals being communicated during the closing process.” How a candidate's closing proceeds (e. g. timing, negotiations, decisiveness, sensitivities, style, etc.) "collectively reveals a great deal regarding a candidate's ultimate fit and likelihood of success."

Epifanio has teamed up with George Bradt, (a college classmate from Harvard and founder of PrimeGenesis), to offer an onboarding workshop (http://stratis1.com/stratissearchplus. html), called SearchPlus, as part of his standard search fee.

USINPAC Regrets the Senate Decision to Extend the H1-B Visa Fee Hike

USINPAC Regrets the Senate Decision to Extend the H1-B Visa Fee Hike

The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) regrets the Senate vote to extend the H1-B visa fee hike by another year (until 2015), and urges the President to reconsider the provision. At the same time, it welcomes the decision to not extend the visa fee hike for six years as proposed in the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

Washington, DC (Vocus/PRWEB) December 25, 2010

The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) regrets the Senate vote to extend the H1-B visa fee hike by another year (until 2015), and urges the President to reconsider the provision. At the same time, it welcomes the decision to not extend the visa fee hike for six years as proposed in the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

The Act will provide free medical treatment to those suffering from illnesses contracted while clearing the 9/11 debris. New York Senators, Kristin Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer had proposed a six year extension on the H1-B visa fee hike originally introduced by the Border Security Bill in August 2010.The collections will be used to fund the $4.3 billion medical treatment fund for 9/11 debris workers.

USINPAC had requested the Congress and the President to reconsider the H1-B and L-1 visa fee hike as it would permanently move jobs offshore. Reiterating the same request, Sanjay Puri, USINPAC Chairman said, “It is unfortunate that the H1-B visa fee hike has been extended by another year, in spite of the impact it can have on perceptions in India towards the U. S. Doubling U. S. exports is one of President Obama’s key trade goals and it would be difficult to achieve that without a growth in U. S.-India trade, as India is one of the fastest growing economies. We need a strong export policy during this crucial period of economic recovery, whereas the visa fee hike works against it. We will continue to talk to the Congress and urge the President to reconsider the provision.”

USINPAC empathizes with the pain of the workers and hold them in high regard for their service to the country. We hope the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act will bring them some respite.

About USINPAC: The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) is a bi-partisan non-profit organization and the voice of 2.7 million Indian-Americans. It works to impact policy on issues of concern to the Indian-American community. We also provide bipartisan support to candidates for federal, state and local office who support the issues that are important to the Indian-American community. News of Antioxidants in Coffee Is Not a License to Make it a Mainstay in Health Regimens

News of Antioxidants in Coffee Is Not a License to Make it a Mainstay in Health Regimens

Coffee may be a chief source of antioxidants in the American diet, as recently reported at the meeting of the American Chemical Society by Dr. Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton, but "that is not a license to make it a mainstay of your health regimen," says Dr. Keith I. Block of the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Care & Optimal Health in Evanston, Illinois. "VinsonÂ’s results are perhaps more a reflection on the inadequacy of our fruit and vegetable intake than on the health benefits of coffee, which has some significant health concerns for many people."

EVANSTON, IL (PRWEB) September 13, 2005

Coffee may be a chief source of antioxidants in the American diet, as recently reported at the meeting of the American Chemical Society by Dr. Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton, but "that is not a license to make it a mainstay of your health regimen," says Dr. Keith I. Block of the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Care & Optimal Health in Evanston, Illinois. Vinson recently found that, based on both the concentration of antioxidants in coffee and the relative amounts we consume of coffee and the more conventionally acknowledged antioxidant sources – fruits and vegetables – coffee contributes more to our antioxidant intake than any other food.

"Vinson’s results are perhaps more a reflection on the inadequacy of our fruit and vegetable intake than on the health benefits of coffee, which has some significant health concerns for many people," noted Block. Caffeinated coffee joins several other popular caffeine sources in the diet in contributing to excess intake of this natural drug. Recent studies highlight the role that caffeine overdose plays in insomnia, anxiety disorders, elevation of stress hormones, urination and bladder problems in older women, and non-cancerous breast lumps. It produces a small but disturbingly significant elevation of blood pressure. Even decaffeinated coffee contributes to health problems. When it’s combined with high-fat milk, cream, sugar or flavorings, a single 16-oz cup can have over 250 calories – a questionable addition to the diet of anyone trying to keep their weight under control (not to mention their budget)! "Decaf and caffeinated coffee alike contribute to a range of gastric problems that are becoming ever more important in contemporary society, including both ulcers and the widespread gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or chronic heartburn), which can be a precursor to esophageal cancer," explained Block, who is co-founder and Medical/Scientific Director of the Block Center. "While a little coffee can be fine for most people, increasing beyond a cup or two a day can lead to clinical problems. The super-sized caffeinated blends can actually be toxic! In fact some studies have found that increases in blood levels can be responsible for adverse effects among persons consuming only moderately increased doses over average consumption. Though usually toxic dosing requires quite high dosing, upwards of 150 ounces daily, toxicity can result for some people if they were to consume 35 to 70 ounces in a short period. This is only 7 to 14 cups at only 5 ounces per cup. Or, at the super-size 16+ ounce level, only a few!"

While many people may be able to tolerate coffee in the small cup or two per day that Dr. Vinson points out as being reasonable, anyone with health problems that are potentially coffee - or caffeine-related needs to examine their daily coffee intake closely.

"Yes, coffee is chock full of antioxidants," says Dr. Block, "but donÂ’t run to your neighborhood coffee-house in place of consuming fruits and vegetables. These colorful plants contain an array of plant chemicals that help reduce your risks of killer diseases like cancer and heart disease."

The Block Center for Integrative Cancer Care and Optimal Health, located in Evanston, Illinois, was founded in 1980 by Penny and Keith Block, M. D. with a focus on treating the patient as a whole person, not treating just the diagnosis or symptoms. The Center's research-based treatment integrates an innovative approach to the best of conventional medicine with scientifically sound complementary therapies -- therapeutic nutrition, botanical and phytonutrient supplementation, prescriptive exercise, and systematic mind-body strategies -- to enhance the recovery process. Block has pioneered this "middle ground" approach to cancer care and optimal health – designing a total treatment plan that is tailored to the precise needs of each patient, using a unique set of clinical and laboratory assessments. The Block Center is breaking new ground with the creation and development of Cancer Rehab as an innovative treatment modality, and currently is the only private North American medical center using chrono-modulated chemotherapy. While the Block Center is a full treatment clinic, it is involved in collaborative research with M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas as a Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) and is also engaged in clinical cancer research with other university facilities in the United States and Israel (www. blockmd. com)

Sugar Backlash Opens Door For All-natural Sports Drinks

Sugar Backlash Opens Door For All-natural Sports Drinks

Concerns about sugar have soft-drink sales tanking nationwide. Now, sugar-based "sports drinks" are coming under fire. Natural alternatives like Ultima Replenisher win devotees.

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 14, 2009

Following the lead of school systems in California and Connecticut, a growing list of jurisdictions is banning sugared soft drinks on campus. New York State is proposing an 18% "Obesity Tax" on sugary beverages. And 71% of Americans report they are "monitoring" their sugar consumption (source: International Food Information Council). The result: seven straight years of sales decline for good old soda pop.

So what about soda's sugary cousins - so called "sports drinks?" Up to now they've been growing nicely ( 2.6% to $4.2 billion in 2007). But watch out as more and more moms, kids and school administrators look for natural, sugar-free alternatives.

One of these is Ultima Replenisher. It's the only naturally sweetened, gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO performance drink. Ultima delivers 8 essential electrolytes--including potassium, magnesium and chloride--in a balanced formula that's easily absorbed. The drink also contains water-soluble vitamins and vitamin enhancers for day-to-day health maintenance, and antioxidants to protect body systems from toxins.

"Everybody needs electrolytes every day, but no one needs the sugar and artificial sweeteners," says Seth Bovio, the president of Ultima Health Products and Masters distance runner, "Sweat isn't just water. It contains vital electrolytes and minerals our bodies use in combination and they must be replaced in balance. Restoring the balance is what hydration is about."

Ultima devotees range from kids to grandmas and construction workers to world-class athletes.

Meg Poulson, fitness director for Sun City Anthem, a 55-and-over retirement community with 6,000 residents in Henderson, NV, recommends Ultima. "All the other [electrolyte beverages] are full of sugar," she says.

Dr. Chad Peters, founder of Armadillo Sports Chiropractic in Corpus Christi, TX (sponsor of BayFest, Island Duathlon, Corpus Christi Triathlon, Beach to Bay, and Wet & Wild Tri), recommends Ultima to prevent cramping. Why? Many of patients' aches and pains stem from dehydration or electrolyte imbalance.

Charlotte, NC-based Teams in Training Coach Scott Sartwell not only recommends Ultima to the triathletes runners he coaches, but also sold the workers in his construction company. "The guys in my company use it everyday," he says. "You just pull out a bottle of water, throw in the powder and you're good to go."

People are coming to understand that proper hydration isn't just drinking fluids, it's the balanced replacement of eight core electrolytes. All that sugar in sports drinks actually slows down hydration and performance, says Bovio. Because sugar has to be digested, sugar drinks pull water into the stomach and away from muscles that need it.

Not paying for obesity

This month, The Colorado Education Board banned sugary drinks--including a number of popular sports drinks--in schools system-wide. When asked by The Rocky Mountain News why the rule is needed, Board member Elaine Gantz Berman said, "I am not paying for the health care of diabetic children. I am not paying for the health care of obese children."

Berman is not alone. "People are waking up to drinks that taste good and do bad," says Livingston Miller, CEO of New York-based ad agency Seiter & Miller Advertising, which promotes Ultima Replenisher. "The opportunity just gets better for natural alternatives like Ultima that help you lead a healthier life and, by the way, also taste great."

About Ultima Replenisher

Marketed by UHP, Inc., in New York City, Ultima Replenisher (www. ultimareplenisher. com ) electrolyte drink mix is the choice of retailers and races with the highest standards for health and performance--including the Hartford (CT) Marathon, Seattle to Portland Bicycle Race, and Grandma's Marathon (Duluth, MN). It is the top-selling electrolyte drink mix stocked by natural foods industry leader Whole Foods, whose standards for purity are the highest of any retailer worldwide. While originally formulated for elite athletes--who need to replenish fast without engaging digestion--Ultima is proven effective in everyday conditions ranging from airplane travel to hangovers to dieting to pregnancy. It is also used as an aid in the treatment of such diseases as cancer and Crohn's.

The satellite-delivered network, “PerfectMedia™”, uses strategically placed plasma and LCD screens and proprietary sound technology to empower Duane Reade shoppers with informative, customizable, and useful content focused exclusively on addressing Duane Reade customer interests. Duane Reade customers will now be able to receive news about existing products, new product introductions and special value opportunities.

The initial demonstration stores for Duane Reade “PerfectMedia” will include some of the highest profile retail space in the world. This includes both new and remodeled Duane Reade stores such as those at Times Square (50th and Broadway), 52nd and Park Avenue, 34th and Fifth Avenue, with several other locations expected to be launched in fall 2006.

“As Duane Reade’s commitment to convenience is what makes us and keeps us the leading drug store chain in metropolitan New York, we are excited to expand our relationship with IBN to integrate this complete media product that will further enhance the customer shopping experience,” said Richard Dreiling, Chief Executive Officer of Duane Reade. “We can now coordinate the messages brought to our customers through both in-store radio and video to display fun, exciting and relevant content for our shoppers.”

Robert Brazell, IBN Chief Executive Officer, has been leading the development of Duane Reade’s “PerfectMedia” solution. “First and foremost, we wanted to make sure that Duane Reade customers like this combined service. Our studies clearly show that when a consumer is presented with concise, relevant communications inside a store, they appreciate the suggestions and information. Our in-store radio has been a trusted medium for retailers and shoppers for many years, filling the store with music and messages. Now video screens will help to bring sight and motion to all Duane Reade shoppers.”

The “PerfectMedia” concept has been patented by IBN as it pertains to the combined use of in-store audio and in-store video coupled with transaction results. The synchronization of certain aspects of the media permits a clear and unified communications platform for Duane Reade and advertisers. The ability for the system to have content addressed to individual stores allows for unique language and other localized considerations.

Coldwell Banker Peninsula Trading Co. Driving Costa Rica Real Estate Investment Growth in Health and Wellness Centers

Coldwell Banker Peninsula Trading Co. Driving Costa Rica Real Estate Investment Growth in Health and Wellness Centers

Coldwell Banker Peninsula Trading Co. reports a rapidly growing trend in Costa Rica real estate investments in property developments planned for health care facilities, recovery centers, hospice homes and wellness retreats.

Playa Tambor, Costa Rica (PRWEB) May 20, 2009

Coldwell Banker Peninsula Trading Co. reports a rapidly growing trend in Costa Rica real estate investments (http://www. coldwellbanker. cr/properties. php) in property developments planned for health care facilities, recovery centers, hospice homes and wellness retreats. As travel to foreign countries for both alternative and traditional medical care has grown in acceptance during the past decade, Costa Rica emerged as one of the most accessible, secure, innovative and price-competitive destinations for travelers from the U. S. and Canada seeking world-class heath care. Costa Rica offers the climate and conditions for a healthy lifestyle, quality care and quick recovery.

Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula lies in the center of one of the largest Blue Zones of the world. Blue Zones are those areas of the world where people live the longest and have the highest quality of life. In the Nicoya Blue Zone, adults have the longest life expectancy in the world due to water quality, a healthful diet and a slower pace. Wellness retreats on the Nicoya offer opportunities for meditation, yoga, massage etc. that contribute to a healthy lifestyle and recovery from major illnesses.

Experts estimate that medical procedures in Costa Rica cost 30 to 70 percent less than the identical services in the U. S. At first, procedures not typically covered by U. S. insurance were the most sought after, including the full gamut of cosmetic surgeries and high-quality dentistry. Today, Costa Rica leads the way in treatments for a number of diseases such as diabetes. As cardiology, urology, fertility, orthopedics and neurology expertise grows in Costa Rica, U. S. health insurers have taken note of the cost-benefit of securing health services in Costa Rica. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina now offers its customers coverage for procedures performed abroad. Several other insurers plan to offer reimbursement for covered services sought abroad, as well.

U. S. patients can pay for foreign medical expenses with funds from their health savings account (HSA) and, as the number of people with HSAs increases and people take more responsibility for their medical costs, medical tourism will grow even more. One of the benefits of seeking care in Costa Rica is its proximity to the U. S. All major carriers, as well as discount airlines Frontier, Spirit and JetBlue, have convenient direct service to San Jose, Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is home to 30 hospitals and 250 clinics. Pharmacies in Costa Rica can deliver basic diagnostics and medications, including birth control and painkillers, without the doctor's visits and prescriptions required in the U. S. Two of the top-ranked hospitals in Central America, Clinica Biblica and Hospital Nacional de Ninos, are located in San Jose.

Medical tourism has a very positive impact on the economies of destination countries. Highly skilled medical professionals, often U. S. trained and fluent in English, require the support of a wide range of skilled and unskilled workers as the health care service industry continues to grow and lift the overall economy. Major international pharmaceutical and medical supply companies have established operations in Costa Rica, aware that the business of health care and the healing arts will continue to grow here.

Most important to investors, medical tourism will continue to push property values higher for those who hold interests in destination countries. Coldwell Banker Peninsula Trading Company is a great resource for learning more about the Costa Rica investment property (http://www. coldwellbanker. cr/properties. php) opportunities that abound.

Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) January 5, 2006

Vitamin Angel Alliance announced today a record level of contributions of nutritional help worldwide in 2005. Stimulated by an unprecedented level of natural disasters around the world, the Natural Products and Pharmaceutical Industries rose to the need by contributing product, services and money that allowed the non-profit business to deliver over 80 million doses of nutritional supplements.

Howard Schiffer, founder and CEO of the VAA said, “At a time when the world needed us to step forward with relief aid, our partners helped at a totally new level of giving.” He further added “There are now companies doing planned product runs every month to assure us of supplies for our international relief work. We are making a meaningful difference globally, by addressing chronic malnutrition, preventing vitamin deficiency diseases and improving the quality of life. I am very proud to be working with such wonderful partners.”

The statistics are outstanding year after year for Vitamin Angels. In 2004 the non-profit distributed 23.4 million supplements, while in 2005 that number tripled to over 80 million vitamins. The wholesale value in ’04 was $2.2 million while that number increased to over $6.2 million in ’05. Donations reached over 40 countries during 2005.

The list of help is impressive with the following serving as the truly outstanding achievements;

18,000,000 supplements distributed to children, women and families in the wake of Katrina and Rita.  10,000,000 supplements distributed to Tsunami relief.  1,000,000 supplements distributed every month or 12,000,000 for 2005 total to save the next generation of Tibetan children.  30,000,000 supplements distributed to Pakistan earthquake relief effort.  250,000 children treated in India to prevent Vitamin A deficiency childhood blindness.

“The list is significant” said Tom Aarts, newly elected Board of Directors member. He added, “These industries couldn’t be putting a better face forward than this huge philanthropic effort. We owe a great deal to many heroes in the nutritional field. We believe that the world community will soon notice what we have done and acknowledge the tremendous opportunity basic nutritional supplements offer to positively impact global health.”

Vitamin Angel Alliance is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization dedicated to providing basic nutrition and fighting vitamin A deficiency childhood blindness and other vitamin deficiency diseases around the world since 1994. This past year Vitamin Angels donated over 80 million supplements to people in need in 40 countries around the world.

8,000 Unsuspecting People "Shot" at the 2008 Arnold Classic With the All-New Hardcore Energize Bullet

8,000 Unsuspecting People "Shot" at the 2008 Arnold Classic With the All-New Hardcore Energize Bullet

This past weekend, 8,000 unsuspecting people were "shot" with the All New Hardcore Energize Bullet at the 2008 Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, and were left energized by the experience!

Golden, CO (PRWEB) March 7, 2008

This past weekend, 8,000 unsuspecting people were "shot" with the All New Hardcore Energize Bullet (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet (http://www. myspace. com/energizebullet)) at the 2008 Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio, and were left energized by the experience!

With the Energize Bullet, iSatori (http://www. isatoritech. com (http://www. isatoritech. com)) has taken energy drinks to an entirely new level with their tubular-shaped, sugar-free 2.9-ounce energy drink, which contains, ounce for ounce, more energy-stimulating compounds than any other drink on the market!

"We handed out around 8,000 Energize Bullets at the Arnold Classic this past weekend," shared Brandon Frickey, Marketing Specialist at iSatori. "In exchange, we had each person put a temporary tattoo of a bullet hole on their forehead that read 'I've been shot by The Bullet!'"

Brandon goes on to say, "People at the event really enjoyed receiving the full shot of the Bullet drink as opposed to a tiny sample. And the feedback we received on the bullet-hole tattoos, as well as the drink itself, was overwhelmingly positive. People loved that the Hardcore Energize Bullet works in minutes and lasts for hours but without any jitters or crash."

"Reason is, the Energize Bullet contains both fast and controlled released caffeine and zero sugar," adds iSatori CEO Stephen Adele (http://www. isatoritech. com (http://www. isatoritech. com)), "preventing the typical over-the-top energy high then horrible-feeling crash, like you get with pretty much all of those sugar-laden energy drinks." He goes on to say, "And what's more, it tastes like blueberry Kool-Aid®."

Be forewarned, though, the Hardcore Energize Bullet is extremely potent! iSatori prudently recommends that users be over the age of 18 and fully read their warnings on the packaging before using.

The all-new Hardcore Energize Bullet is available at most gyms and fitness centers. (Look for it at the drink cooler; if it's not available, ask the Manager to order it.) To learn more about the new Hardcore Energize Bullet, visit http://www. isatoritech. com (http://www. isatoritech. com) or call 1-866-688-7679 between the hours of 8:00 a. m. and 5:00 p. m. MST, Monday through Friday. Retailers interested in carrying the Hardcore Energize Bullet can contact Europa Sports, America's largest sports nutrition distributor, at 1-800-447-4795 or visit http://www. EuropaSports. com (http://www. EuropaSports. com).

About iSatori Technologies:

Based in Golden, Colorado, iSatori Technologies was founded in early 2002 by Stephen Adele to provide clinically tested nutritional products and is the only company dedicated to providing complete dietary and exercise solutions for building a better body and living a healthier, richer life. iSatori's life-enhancement and weight-loss supplements, such as Energize®, Lean System 7®, Curvelle™, MX-LS7™, and Morph are available in over 31,000 retail stores nationwide, including GNC and online at drugstore. com, as well in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Italy. iSatori recently received the industry's NBJ Gold Award for Growth in Small Companies category. General on Mission to DC: Calls for New Food Safety Agency

General on Mission to DC: Calls for New Food Safety Agency

Retired US Army Major General Albert N. Stubblebine III has returned to the Nation's Capital to impress upon Members of Congress the importance of protecting the safety of America's food supply. Briefing Congressional staff, Gen. Stubblebine warns that giving the FDA dual responsibility for both food and drug regulation puts the nation's food supply at serious risk. Pressures on the FDA to degrade the food supply for commercial reasons linked to "Users Fees" for drug regulation lead to the diseases of under nutrition: cancers, heart disease and stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Washington DC (PRWEB) August 29, 2007

Retired US Army Major General Albert N. Stubblebine III, President of the Natural Solutions Foundation (http//www. HealthFreedomUSA. org), has returned to Washington this week for a series of briefings designed to educate Congressional staffers on pressing food safety issues. He will be recommending to senior staff members and Congressmen and women that Congress correct the basic error made in 1938 when both food and drug regulation responsibilities were given to a single agency, the FDA. Because clean food and supplements provide an economic competitor to allopathic treatments for the chronic diseases of under nutrition, powerful interests push the FDA to attack clean, natural food and remedies to support their economic interest in sales. FDA raids on companies which produce natural products and on the offices of natural health care providers are escalating under this climate of pressure. Additionally, increased FDA inspections and enforcement activities to limit health claims by small companies are also on the rise (http://www. fda. gov/oc/whitepapers/enforce. html (http://www. fda. gov/oc/whitepapers/enforce. html)).

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) identify the "non-communicable preventable epidemic diseases of under nutrition" as cancers, cardiovascular disease and stroke, diabetes and obesity (http://whqlibdoc. who. int/trs/WHO_TRS_916.pdf (http://whqlibdoc. who. int/trs/WHO_TRS_916.pdf)). These conditions are the principle killers in the developed world and represent the lion's share of pharmaceutical profit.

Natural health advocates believe that these diseases of chronic under nutrition are best prevented and reversed by food and dietary supplements which provide the body with the nourishment it needs. They contend that the unlabeled, genetically modified, irradiated, antibiotic-, pesticide - and hormone-treated plant and animal components commonly found in the modern processed food supply are responsible for most diseases world-wide since the pattern of disease rapidly changes once an industrialized ("Western") diet is adopted (http://www. sdearthtimes. com/et1101/et1101s18.html (http://www. sdearthtimes. com/et1101/et1101s18.html)). These food production processes and treatments are currently permitted by the FDA regulations and Codex Alimentarius (http://www. codexalimentarius. net/web/index_en. jsp (http://www. codexalimentarius. net/web/index_en. jsp)) standards and guidelines.

General Stubblebine and Foundation Medical Director, Rima E. Laibow, MD, representing the Natural Solutions Foundation (http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org (http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org)) have attended, over the past several years, a series of international food regulatory meetings, including the 2007 Codex Alimentarius Commission meeting in Rome. They have also met with Heads of State, Ministers of Health, Food Production Ministers, International Codex delegates, journalists, consumer and health care activists on several continents, exchanging ideas and developing effective strategies for countries to protect their traditional natural food sources and remedies.

Codex Alimentarius, the World Food Code ("Codex") is the UN agency charged with promoting safe international food trade. Many proponents of natural foods and remedies, along with consumer advocates, consider the agency to be far too subservient to large corporate interests and hence to pose a major threat to the wide availability of wholesome, organic, non-genetically modified, unpolluted and non-irradiated foods. The historical origins of the Codex Alimentarius Commission Codex Video are available for viewing at the Foundation's website (www. HealthFreedomUSA. org)

The General's message to Congress is contained in an Educational Briefing Document entitled: "Congressional Choice: Health Freedom or Health Tyranny".

States Gen. Stubblebine in the Educational Briefing Document:

"The Natural Solutions Foundation and its hundreds of thousands of supporters, along with the 250,000,000 million Americans who rely on dietary supplements, urge Congress to correct the basic error of the 1939 legislation which set up the FDA as an agency which regulated both food and drugs and create a new federal agency for the sole purpose of regulating foods. This new agency would have a separate unit within it responsible for IG oversight to make sure that no regulator or scientist had any conflict of interest and that consumer advocates controlled the agency's activities in a transparent and effective fashion."

In addition to the Food Safety Agency concept, the Natural Solutions Foundation is also educating Congress on the benefits of Dr. Ron Paul's Health Freedom Protection Act, HR 2117 (http://thomas. loc. gov/cgi-bin/query/C? c110 (http://thomas. loc. gov/cgi-bin/query/C? c110):./temp/~c11049bgcR) , currently pending before the House of Representatives. The Foundation, which has generated a half million citizen messages to Congress and the FDA this year, is calling for public hearings on these these matters.

Growth Hormones Direct Continues to Field FAQ's About Growth Hormone Injections Side Effects

Growth Hormones Direct continues to field FAQ's about Growth Hormone injections side effects.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB) January 03, 2011

Growth Hormones Direct continues to field FAQ's about Growth Hormone injections side effects. While Growth Hormones Direct does not carry any form of injection, the company continues to receive a vast amount of queries and concerns regarding Growth Hormone injections side effects.

To further distinguish the Growth Hormones Direct product from the Growth Hormone injections that leave consumers wary of side effects, Growth Hormones Direct releases additional FAQ's.

Dr. J. Ronald Willis of Growth Hormones Direct said, "It's only natural that people keep connecting the homeopathic Growth Hormones product of today with the Growth Hormone injection that caused such an upheaval in the athletic industry in years past. The side effects of injections can be severe. It's just smart for consumers to want to verify that the Growth Hormone injections side effects are not applicable to any HGH related product they are considering for purchase."

To clearly define the difference between the two types of HGH, Growth Hormones Direct provides FAQ answers related to side effects in the traditional FAQ format, article format, video format, as well as access to online contacts with the company that can handle any continued concern.

Growth Hormones Direct urges consumers to watch 'Science…Meet Nature' as they reap the benefits of optimizing their hormone levels through proper use of the homeopathic growth hormone formula. Optimal hormone levels allow individuals to enjoy increased general health. Growth Hormones Direct is an Arizona based distributor of quality health foods, supplements, pharmaceuticals and neutraceuticals.

Miss Amy Donates Proceeds from "My Precious One" To March of Dimes

Miss Amy Donates Proceeds from "My Precious One" To March of Dimes

Singer/songwriter Miss Amy has released a CD entitled "My Precious One", inspired by her experience as the mother of a premature baby. A portion of proceeds will be donated to March of Dimes.

Trenton, NJ (PRWEB) September 25, 2006

Inspired by her personal experience as the mother of a premature baby, singer/songwriter Miss Amy has created a collection of lullabies to share with everyone whose life has been touched by premature birth. Revered as a children's performer, Miss Amy presents age-friendly music for youngsters, such as tunes from her GRAMMY® submitted albums “Underwater” and “Wide Wide World” among other favorites. In her latest CD release "My Precious One", Miss Amy is giving back to March of Dimes, the organization instrumental in the health and well being of her now 10 year-old son.

The March of Dimes' mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Since its inception in 1938 with focuses on funding research to eradicate Polio and later to develop the Iron Lung and correct genetic defects, March of Dimes has turned its attention to an alarming current statistic; every day 1 in 8 babies born in the U. S. arrives too soon. In recent years, almost 500,000 babies are born prematurely each year in the United States, and prematurity has increased by 29% since 1981. Prematurity is the leading killer of babies in their first month of life.

A major breakthrough called surfactant was made possible by March of Dimes that has reduced the number of babies who die from respiratory distress syndrome. Miss Amy is thankful to March of Dimes for this, since her son might not be here today without the availability of surfactant at the time of his birth in 1996.

Miss Amy knows first hand how worrisome a premature birth can be to a parent. As one who shuttled back-and-forth to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for over 3 months where her baby lay in an incubator wired to monitoring devices, Miss Amy composed lullabies to soothe her child. Several of these songs are now available on her "My Precious One" CD.

And, through the sale of her CD, Miss Amy is helping to support March of Dimes to find answers and solutions to this rising national health issue, and help parents and children everywhere.

Today Miss Amy entertains children through her music, having performed at such venues as World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, McCarter Theatre in Princeton, and being a volunteer with the New York-based "Musicians On Call" program to bring smiles to children at hospital bedsides. She has performed fund-raising concerts for March of Dimes and United Way, and served as a Mission Spokesperson for the March of Dimes' Prematurity Campaign.

Miss Amy's 2006 GRAMMY® submitted CD, "My Precious One," is great for relaxing trips in the car, is perfect for settling little ones (or yourself) at bedtime, and it's a musical way to support March of Dimes!

To find out more about Miss Amy, visit her website at http://www. MissAmyKids. com (http://www. MissAmyKids. com). To learn more about March of Dimes, visit their website at http://www. marchofdimes. com (http://www. marchofdimes. com), where you can also perform a search for "Miss Amy".

Minimally Invasive Surgery Options Drive Surgical Procedure Volumes

MRG’s Global Surgical Procedure Volumes 2006 discusses minimally invasive surgery as well as other traditional techniques. It covers over 100 different procedures including anesthetic, cardiovascular, dental, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, general surgery, gynecology, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, urology, and varicose vein markets.

In the last 10 years there has been a global shift towards the use of minimally invasive surgery in place of traditional open surgical procedures. This trend is especially evident in cardiovascular, endoscopy, gynecology, general surgery, orthopedic, and urology procedures. The move to minimally invasive surgery is providing benefits not only to the patient, but also to the physician and hospital. These procedures offer shorter preparation, operation, and recovery time and reduce the risk of complications that can arise from open surgery. Consequently, physicians are able to perform a higher volume of procedures and patients are able to return sooner to their normal routines.

The adoption of minimally invasive procedures is particularly significant in the field of cardiovascular surgery. While the use of stents for peripheral vascular indications as a whole is growing at 10.3%, one subsegment of this procedure—the use of stents for carotid indications—will grow at more than double that rate over the forecast period. This strong growth is attributed to promising clinical trials, approval from the Food and Drug Administration, and the recent authorization of stents for carotid indications granted by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Another noteworthy area of growth in the field of orthopedics is Kyphoplasty, which is a minimally invasive treatment of vertebral compression fractures. In the US, over the next 5 years there will be growth of 2.3% in overall spinal fusion procedures, but growth of almost 21% in Kyphoplasty procedures. The popularity of Kyphoplasty is largely attributed to its ability to reduce pain and minimize the long recovery time that is a hallmark of traditional spinal fusions.

The shift to minimally invasive surgery is also reflected throughout European and Japanese markets. Kyphoplasty, however, is awaiting regulatory approval and is not expected to enter the market until 2010.

Cooking with 5 Ingredients contains more than 500 recipes, each with 5 ingredients or less and prepared in three easy steps. Dishes like Butter Mint Salad, Unbelievable Crab Dip, Chicken Marseilles and Sunny Lime Pie call for everyday ingredients you already have in your pantry. No gourmet foods or special preparation is needed for these terrific tasting dishes.

“This cookbook recognizes that the family meal is different today than it was 20 years ago,” said Sheryn Jones, Cookbook Resources president. “Working moms and dads no longer have time to spend hours in the kitchen. They need quick, great-tasting recipes that can be on the table in minutes.”

Cooking with 5 Ingredients offers simple main dish recipes for chicken, beef, pork and seafood, plus ideas for using leftover holiday meats like turkey and ham.

Other sections include Appetizers (Cheese Straws, No-Fuss Meatballs), Beverages (Lemonade Tea, KidsÂ’ Cherry Sparkler), Breads (Sour Cream Biscuits, Quick Pumpkin Bread) and Brunch and Breakfast (Light and Crispy Waffles, Blueberry Coffee Cake).

Soups, Salads and Sandwiches (Cold Cucumber Soup, Spinach and Apple Salad, Meatball Hoagies), Vegetables and Side Dishes (Almond Green Beans, Sweet Potato Wedges) and Desserts (Chocolate Cherry Cake, Peanut Butter Fudge, Apricot Cobbler).

Cooking with 5 Ingredients is part of Cookbook Resources’ “Cooking by the Numbers” series designed to help busy families enjoy meals together. Other books in the series include The Ultimate Cooking with 4 Ingredients, Best of Cooking with 3 Ingredients, Easy Healthy Cooking with 4 Ingredients and Easy Gourmet-Style Cooking with 5 Ingredients.

“Families who sit around the dinner table every night and talk are rare these days,” Jones said. “We believe that the family meal is precious and should be preserved. If we make the food preparation easy, then families will be more likely to eat together on a regular basis and spend quality time together.”

Cooking with 5 Ingredients and other Cookbook Resources books are available online at www. CookbookResources. com, www. Amazon. com and www. booksamillion. com or by calling toll-free (866) 229-2665. The website also features printable recipes, recipe contests, stories and more.

The Book of a Year, The First Annual OUTSIDELEFT Hardy Annual

The Book of a Year, The First Annual OUTSIDELEFT Hardy Annual

The somewhat popular pop culture critics at outsideleft. com publish an offline, decidedly old media collection of essays drawn from their online vault.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 14, 2006

The First Annual Outsideleft Hardy Annual is handy compendium of selected articles from the first year in the life of the somewhat popular website outsideleft. com. It's also a first foray into the old media world of book publishing and is available now from book retailers everywhere.

The Hardy Annual offers outsideleft's usual slabs of esoteric pop-inspired opinion and (some might say), wit, here is a love letter to less-revered celebrities, with healthy helpings of mostly forgotten culture.

Music, movies, vanity and verbal violence... Featuring contributions from outsideleft founders Alarcon and Lamont, editors, Joe Ambrose, Kirk Lake, Alex V. Cook, and contributors Andy Allison, Emerson O'Sullivan, Erin Pipes, Erin Scott, Henderson Downing, Karl Morgan, Kevin McHugh, Mindy Strouse, Ryan 'RJO' Stewart and Seth Sherwood.

Inside you'll find essays on the likes of Morrissey, Laura Cantrell, The Tangier Beat Generation, Michael Caine, Pete Doherty, Chocolate Covered Germans, a smattering of episodes from the 'Behind the Counterculture' Series, (which looks oh so good in print). Then there's the amazing cover from Andree Walker Design and... Oh so much more.

Published by the SideCartel, The First Annual Outsideleft Hardy Annual is currently available from Amazon. com, Barnes & Noble online, probably more places already, in the US and also in the UK. Other retail outlets are being added all the time - tell your local indie bookseller! It's distributed by Ingram's who are large. I think.

In support of the books release, reading-type events in London, Louisiana and Los Angeles are being plotted, dreamed up and schemed about for the forthcoming months - so watch this space if you'd like to attend.

The First Annual Outsideleft Hardy Annual is a small book of big, fast, unruly and loose opinions. Oh and did I say, "entertaining." Entertaining yes, but not suitable for all readers. No.

All this for only fifteen dollars.
