Stop Arthritis - Stop Living in Pain

Stop Arthritis - Stop Living in Pain

New Book Reveals How Arthritis Can Be Defeated Naturally

(PRWEB) September 10, 2003

TUSTIN, CA – Of the estimated 70 million Americans who suffer with arthritis, most search for relief from traditional medical therapies. But the human body can also play a major part in the treatment process, as explained in the new book “Stop Arthritis: How I Defeated it Naturally, My Program Revealed.”

The book tells the story of the author, Alan Schlines, and how his quest for relief from “incurable” arthritis led him into the world of natural health. With the guidance of four natural health professionals, who each had their own specialized program to fight arthritis, Alan used these programs combined with other complimentary programs to help his body rise up and defeat the disease naturally.

“Stop Arthritis: How I Defeated it Naturally, My Program Revealed,” explains the author’s journey step-by-step, showing how he abandoned his medication and switched to a natural program. His entire program, which has helped him be free of symptoms for over 10 years, is revealed in an effort to help readers defeat their illness.

The book uses health studies and proven research to show how the natural approach can work. It also explains detoxification techniques, reveals alarming drug statistics, identifies specific herbs and vitamins used to stop arthritis and gives tips for better eating habits.

Alan is a member of The Coalition for Natural Health, American Holistic Health Association (AHHA), Herb Research Foundation, and EarthSave International. He graduated with a business degree from Chapman University and lives in Southern California.

“Stop Arthritis: How I Defeated it Naturally, My Program Revealed” is available in softcover (ISBN 1-58939-426-7) for $14.95 or in hardcover (ISBN 1-58939-435-6) for $22.95. Minnesota Criminal Attorney Speaks Out On Need For Change As Minneapolis Ranks As Second Drunkest City In Recent Forbes Study

Minnesota Criminal Attorney Speaks Out On Need For Change As Minneapolis Ranks As Second Drunkest City In Recent Forbes Study

Minnesota DUI Attorney Douglas Kans recent spoke out regarding the sobering news that Minneapolis-St. Paul ranked number two on Forbes America's drunkest cities. He fees this ranking showcases the continued need to educate on the dangers of alcohol abuse as well as safe drinking and driving practices.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 28, 2007

Many Minneapolis residents, including criminal attorney Douglas Kans were surprised when Minneapolis-St. Paul ranked as America's second drunkest city, according to a study by Forbes. com. Officials feel that the city has an emphasis on health and rehab and the State overall is working to lower Minnesota DUI rates (http://www. kanslaw. com/minnesota/dwilawyer/) so there was great surprise by the results.

In late 2006, Forbes published its' 'drunkest city' ranking of the thirty-five largest metropolitan areas in the continental U. S. Each city was ranked in five areas based on data received from the Center for Disease Control: state laws, number of drinkers, number of heavy drinkers, number of binge drinkers and alcoholism. Each area was assigned a ranking in each category, based on qualitative data, and all five categories were then totaled to produce a final score, which was sorted to produce the rankings.

Milwaukee was the clear 'winner' and Minneapolis-St. Paul ranked as follows based on the criteria:

State Laws 7/8  Having a Drink in The Last Month 2/35  Heavy Drinkers 12/35  Binge Drinkers 3/35  Alcoholism 4/35

Minnesota DUI attorney Douglas Kans recently spoke out regarding the published statistics, "It is disheartening to have such a negative label placed on such a great city as Minneapolis-St. Paul. Yet, it isn't something government officials and others should ignore because high percentages of alcohol consumption and abuse can translate into serious trouble for the city, including increased public health costs and higher rates of drinking and driving," comments Kans,

Minnesota DUI attorney (http://www. kanslaw. com/minnesota/dwilawyer/).

Rounding out the top five drunkest cities are Columbus, Ohio, Boston and Austin Texas. Surprisingly, reputed party cities like Las Vegas and Miami didn't rank that high on the list.

"It's not necessarily the end of the world to rank high on this list, but I hope that it raises a certain amount of concern among our civic leaders. Continued education on the dangers of excessive drinking as well as continuing attempts to lower our Minnesota DUI rates are paramount," concludes

Minnesota DUI attorney (http://www. kanslaw. com/minnesota/dwilawyer/) Doug Kans.

ABOUT KANS LAWFIRM (http://www. kanslaw. com):

For over a decade, Mr. Kans has dedicated himself solely to defending individuals charged with crimes. Over this period, he has earned the respect of fellow colleagues, prosecutors, and Judges throughout the State of Minnesota. Mr. Kans has successfully litigated and negotiated hundreds of criminal cases during his career. He has had many proud achievements, but none is as important as the personal satisfaction he receives from working hard and achieving wonderful results for his clients.

The Harley Medical Group Reveals Demand for Anti-Sweat Botox Triples

The Harley Medical Group Reveals Demand for Anti-Sweat Botox Triples

The Harley Medical Group has revealed that scorching temperatures on commuter-packed buses and trains UK wide are causing sweaty Brits to turn to Anti-Sweat Botox, dubbed Sweatox.

(PRWEB) August 22, 2008

The Harley Medical Group, the UK's largest cosmetic surgery provider, has revealed figures which show that demand for "Sweatox", an anti-perspirant botox procedure, has tripled over the last three months rising to 31% of all Botox treatments since May 2008. Botox is the second most requested non-surgical procedure at The Harley Medical Group after Laser Hair Removal and its popularity has increased by 55% since the same time last year.

Dr Nicky Naylor, The Harley Medical Group's specialist Botox (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/ (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/)) doctor said:

"Whilst normal sweating regulates body temperature, excessive sweating (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/ (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/)) can be chronically embarrassing. Sufferers can feel uncomfortable in social situations and start avoiding them. Caused by an overreaction by the sympathetic nervous system, hands, feet and armpits are the most affected due to the higher concentration of eecrine or sweat glands - for example there are approximately 500 glands per square centimetre in the palms of the hands. Botox treatments (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/ (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/)) are one of the most affective, long lasting and minimally invasive treatments that puts a stop to excessive sweating."

Many patients using this treatment were, until now, silent suffers of hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating which affects one in a hundred people. The condition can cause hands and feet to drip with sweat from the body's two million sweat glands, causing extreme embarrassment and discomfort.

Used to prevent the embarrassment of slippery handshakes, underarm sweat patches and dripping brows, Botox injections freeze sweat glands, effectively stopping perspiration in the following areas:

Palms of the hands Soles of the feet Under arms Chest

Dr Nicky Naylor, specialist Botox doctor for The Harley Medical Group added: "But it's not just those with a severe problem. My patients include those whose nervousness when presenting gets them sweating severely in front of hundreds of people and shy men and women who break out in a sweat in nerve wracking social situations - first dates and when meeting new people. Many of my patients feel that not having to worry about getting uncomfortably sweaty, whilst travelling, at work and at parties, is a big boost to their confidence in both business and social situations, especially during summer."

Sara Jones, hyperhidrosis (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/ (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/non-surgical-solutions/line--and--wrinkle-treatments/)) sufferer and a patient at The Harley Medical Group, said, "Before I tried Botox, my body hands and feet felt clammy with sweat most of the time. Shaking hands with new people was a trial; I always had to explain to them about my sweaty hands. I found social situations daunting, but the Botox treatments have been incredibly effective. After experimenting with endless deodorants and diets, it's great to find something that actually works."

About Harley Medical Group:

The Harley Medical Group has been established for over 25 years and is one of the most highly regarded Cosmetic Surgery (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/ (http://www. harleymedical. co. uk/)) Groups operating in the UK. Oralflo Cup Named Among "Best of 2008" by Contemporary Pediatrics

Oralflo Cup Named Among "Best of 2008" by Contemporary Pediatrics

The Oralflo Pill Swallowing Cup is among a small number of health products named "Best New Products for Pediatrics 2008" by Contemporary Pediatrics magazine. In the article, Andrew J. Schuman, MD, of Dartmouth Medical School, calls the cup "brilliant in its simplicity." The Oralflo cup is a unique medical device that can make the difference in whether a child takes his or her medicines. While many have difficulty swallowing pills, approximately 40 percent of children with developmental delays or disabilities have this problem. Pill-swallowing difficulties are not confined to the young, however - 40 percent of adults reported problems swallowing medications in a recent Harris survey.

Raritan, NJ (PRWEB) March 2, 2009

The Oralflo™ Pill Swallowing Cup is among a small number of health products named "Best New Products for Pediatrics 2008" by Contemporary Pediatrics magazine. Contemporary Pediatrics is a widely-read publication that helps office and hospital-based physicians and nurse practitioners enhance their day-to-day care of children.

In the article, Andrew J. Schuman, MD, adjunct assistant professor of pediatrics at Dartmouth Medical School, calls the cup "brilliant in its simplicity." Dr. Schuman, who has written new product reviews for the magazine for 20 years, conducts all reviews independently and without compensation from the products' manufacturers. The Oralflo cup is one of only 12 medical devices and services to receive Dr. Schuman's "Best of 2008" designation.

"Our product is unique and fills an unmet need, not just for children, but for patients of all ages," says Roger Heilos, Oralflo Technologies LLC's president and founder. "We are gratified by the response of patients and health professionals to our cup, and are thrilled to receive an independent endorsement from this prestigious publication."

The Oralflo cup was also an Honored Recipient of the iParenting Media Award as one of the "best products of 2007" and has received the National Parenting Center's Seal of Approval.

The Oralflo Pill Swallowing Cup was created by Heilos, a medical products engineer. Formerly with the Ethicon division of Johnson & Johnson, Heilos has devoted more than three decades to designing and engineering medical products that help people live healthier lives. He invented the Oralflo cup after seeing family members suffer with dysphagia, or difficulty swallowing.

"Pill swallowing is a problem that has existed since medications were first compounded," says Heilos. "It has not been addressed until now."

The Oralflo cup is a breakthrough medical device that can make the difference in whether a child takes his or her medicines and vitamins. While many children have difficulty swallowing pills, approximately 40 percent of children with developmental problems such as mental retardation, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism and cerebral palsy have this difficulty. These children frequently take dozens of medications each day.

"My 7-year-old son, who has autism, needs to take a lot of tablets, capsules and bitter tasting liquids," says Angela Short, who works with the Autism Centers of Pittsburgh. "He swallowed the first tablet we tried with the Oralflo cup, with no problem at all. I have now recommended this cup to other parents as well as doctors."

Pill-swallowing difficulties are not confined to the young. In a 2005 Harris Interactive survey of 679 adults, 40 percent reported that they have experienced difficulty swallowing pills - although most had not reported difficulty swallowing food or liquid. Of those who experienced difficulty swallowing medications, 14 percent stated that they delayed taking doses of their medication; eight percent reported skipping a dose; and four percent said that they stopped taking the medication.

The Oralflo Pill Swallowing Cup features a unique design that eliminates the need to crush or cut pills. Crushing, cutting or putting pills in liquid can decrease their potency, especially if they are in time-release or coated forms.

The Oralflo cup's snap-on lid has a specially designed ribbed spout. Users simply place the pill inside the spout and tip the cup back, drinking as they normally would. The angle and flow of the liquid push the pill to the back of the throat so
it washes down easily. Patients who have tried the cup report being unable to detect the feeling of the pill, which for many is what causes the gagging reflex that the Oralflo cup eliminates.

The Oralflo Pill Swallowing Cup is easy to use, accepts all size pills and may be ordered at: www. Oralflo. com. The cup carries a U. S. Patent, is trademarked in the United States and 27 countries, and is used by medical professionals throughout the world.

While consumers can order the cup on the Oralflo site, the company also takes large orders from health care organizations. For information regarding wholesale pricing, contact Oralflo at specialorders(at)oralflo. com. Among those that have purchased the cup are St. Jude Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, various V. A. hospitals and Johnson & Johnson.

Oralflo Technologies LLC designs and manufactures superior quality medical products that facilitate treatment while enhancing the relationship between healthcare consumers and their physicians and care givers. The company's products address the unique challenges faced by this industry so that more individuals may reap the benefits of good health and longevity.

Sensitron, a leading Edge Telemedicine Provider Introduces Knowledge-Based, Wireless System at MMVR Conference.

Sensitron demonstrated the cost effectiveness of its’ telemedicine system at the 10th Annual “Medicine Meets Virtual Reality” (MMVR) conference. The system demonstration consisted of Bluetooth enabled instruments for blood pressure, weight, and oxygen saturation communicating wirelessly to a Bluetooth access point connected to a laptop. The software included screens for customizing the patient profile, displaying the data including the history, as well as disease management screens.

(PRWEB) April 3, 2002

At the request of Dr. Richard Satava, a very well known surgeon at Yale Medical Center, and a senior S & T advisor to the U. S. Army’s Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), Sensitron demonstrated the cost effectiveness of its’ telemedicine system at the 10th Annual “Medicine Meets Virtual Reality” (MMVR) conference on January 23, 2002 in Newport Beach, California. The system demonstration consisted of Bluetooth enabled instruments for blood pressure, weight, and oxygen saturation communicating wirelessly to a Bluetooth access point connected to a laptop. The software included screens for customizing the patient profile, displaying the data including the history, as well as disease management screens.

Sensitron, Inc. is a development company preparing for beta deployment of their system which uses Bluetooth wireless connectivity for inexpensive patient monitoring of vital functions (pulse, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygenation, weight, temperature, and blood glucose, etc.), combined with a centralized (web-based) disease management system to provide an end-to-end solution. This system can be expanded to include additional instruments without redesign. Sensitron uses FDA cleared monitors, which have been Bluetooth, enabled and integrated in the platform, and is currently working on integration of FDA cleared ECGs and respirometers in the system.

The software for operating the devices as well as the knowledge-based engine, are fully functional and tested. The software has been architected to deliver the functions needed by nursing staff to improve efficiency. Sensitron has identified three sites in the San Francisco Bay Area to start trials within the next two months and are currently working with four hospital chains for implementation in the latter half of the year.

Sensitron has filed applications for five patents covering Sensitron Proprietary Protocol.

“The Sensitron solution is designed to be the patient centric system that will improve efficiency of the nursing staff, enhance quality of care, and eliminate vital sign transcription errors, in a cost effective package,” said Dr. Ashok Kapoor, Chief Technology Officer of the company while demonstrating the system.

About MMVR: The Tenth Annual Medicine Meets Virtual Reality (MMVR) conference was jointly sponsored by the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine & Aligned Management Associates, Inc. in Cooperation with: The U. S. Army Medical Research & Material CommandÂ’s Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), Stanford University Medical Media and Information Technology. It was held at the Newport Beach Resort & Tennis Club in Newport, Ca from January 23-26. "Digital Upgrades: Applying Moore's Law to Health" was this year's special theme.

About Sensitron: Sensitron is developing a cost effective end-to-end solution for knowledge based, wireless monitoring of patient vital signs for hospitals, nursing homes, and home care applications. The company, located in Silicon Valley, has built a strong team of IT, Medical, software, and telecommunication professionals with proven records of network product development and service provisioning.

Sensitron plans to deliver the systems for hospitals and nursing homes initially, followed by products for home care. Sensitron system provides a major breakthrough in the fight to eliminate medical errors by fully automating the gathering of all the vital signs from the patient bedside using a combination of low cost wireless and wired networking technologies. In addition, Sensitron system improves the efficiency of the nursing staff by providing tools for accessing the patient information at the bedside using wireless technology and the knowledge based software. Sensitron system is quick to install and delivers the expected benefits to the health care provider and the patient from the very beginning.

Happy Birthday Jay Manuel! In Lieu of Gifts, Jay is Asking Friends and Fans to Donate to Operation Smile to Change Children's Lives Worldwide

Happy Birthday Jay Manuel! In Lieu of Gifts, Jay is Asking Friends and Fans to Donate to Operation Smile to Change Children's Lives Worldwide

Operation Smile is proud to announce Jay Manuel as an official Smile Ambassador. For Jay Manuel’s birthday this Saturday, August 14, he is asking his friends and fans to give the gift of a smile for children around the world born with facial deformities. Jay has created a Birthday Campaign on Operation Smile’s Facebook Cause page at www. operationsmile. org/jaymanuel where he is encouraging fans to donate to the international children’s medical charity.

Norfolk, VA (Vocus) August 11, 2010

For Jay Manuel’s birthday this Saturday, August 14, he is celebrating in style. Jay is asking his friends and fans to give the gift of a smile for children around the world born with facial deformities. Jay has created a Birthday Campaign on Operation Smile’s Facebook Cause page at www. operationsmile. org/jaymanuel (http://www. operationsmile. org/jaymanuel) where he is encouraging fans to donate to the international children’s medical charity. After spending more than a decade in the world of high fashion, Jay knows there is nothing more beautiful than a smile.

Operation Smile is proud to announce that Jay Manuel has been named an official Smile Ambassador and will support the organization’s global efforts to provide free surgeries for children born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. Earlier this year, Jay partnered with Auction Cause to host an eBay auction for select items from his wardrobe, and donated a portion of the proceeds to Operation Smile. This partnership sparked an immediate connection and shortly thereafter Jay attended Operation Smile’s annual New York Gala where he discovered more about the organization, which solidified his desire to help the organization change the lives of children around the world.

"I'm thrilled to partner with Operation Smile and help raise funds and awareness for children suffering from facial deformities," said Jay Manuel. “I truly believe that every child deserves that picture-perfect smile. But it goes beyond a smile – a surgery that can take as little as 45 minutes has the power to literally create new hope and a new life for a child.”

Every 3 minutes, a child somewhere in the world is born with a cleft lip and cleft palate; they often are unable to speak, eat, socialize, or attend school. Many times, these children are shunned. Through the help of dedicated medical volunteers and generous donations, Operation Smile provides free reconstructive surgeries for these children.

Jay has an eye for creating stunning conceptual direction in the world of high fashion and beauty. He can currently be seen as Creative Director/Judge on The CW Network reality series "America's Next Top Model" and as the Host of The Style Network's makeover series, "Style Her Famous." He is Fashion Correspondent for E! Queens Writer Looks At Soul

Queens Writer Looks At Soul

An Autobiographic Poetry Book Expressing The Journey Through Life Of a Young Man.

(PRWEB) May 22, 2005

“Poetry, for me, and I hope for the reader, is a way of communicating that transcends every other form of communication, a way of expressing that which it would not be possible to express in any other form,” Jason Visconti declares on the back cover of his self-published The Death of Equal Handshakes, a collection of poems “that I feel represents me as I write today.” His assessment of the theme and content of the 62 poems in this book is correct: the book is a record of his life and thoughts expressed in varying poetic forms and imagery unique to his life experience.

"The Death of Equal Handshakes" opens with “The Day My Mother Died,” a poem deceptively gentle in imagery underlain with harsh reality. “I was with my best friend/being brought up by the clouds/of a summer afternoon./In one hand I held a stick bat taped with orange stripes,/A slim stick meant for toying with on sunny days/one that painted all my childhood.” The idyll ends and Visconti resents it: “My mother stole me away from my schoolyard,/she laid the bats and balls /alongside the fence/for others to pick up and play/and now in my adult years/where is my lost joy?”

Visconti attended a poetry workshop where he explored a number of poetic forms. He approaches sonnet form in “To Walk a Mile in My Father’s Shoes”; otherwise, much of his work is blank or free verse with occasional rhymes that surprise and delight the reader. He also has a good command of such literary devices as alliteration (“blanched with the white washed walls forever”: “To the Gravedigger”) and ellipsis (“The dancer stretches back/in his morning Crucifix.”: “The Evil Overture”).

His imagery is intriguing. “Lyric of the Night” evokes New York City after dark with minimal description that encourages the reader to fill in the blanks with imagination and memory, although the steppingstone typography of the last line is something of a distraction.

Some of ViscontiÂ’s poems present conundrums that the reader may find obscure. In “I Cannot See Anywhere in the Distance” we are told, “The sky is pure white, the color of snow./A cloud drifts past a streak of gauze./The sun bows east to west, drops deep/in the ground, shadows cross the eyes/You blink once reliving the night./The world is fog mist but never dangerous.” Like many of the other poems in The Death of Equal Handshakes, this example of ViscontiÂ’s work gives the impression that the poet is somewhere down the road, waiting for us to catch up with his meaning without his having provided enough guideposts along the way.

Visconti does provide those guideposts in some of his other poems. The three-part “How Do You Know If You Are a Really Bad Person?” asks a question that has confronted everyone at one time or another, then provides an answer—which the reader can take either of two ways, depending on how he or she has answered the question Visconti posed. This is perhaps one of poetry’s more useful functions, to hold up a mirror and compel us to look at ourselves.

"The Death of Equal Handshakes" is largely autobiographical. From the start, Visconti pulls no punches. “The Day My Mother Died” also touches on his being diagnosed with schizophrenia and his battles with the illness. He details his struggles with interpersonal relationships in “Suicide Stroll” and the memories that have made up his being in “Images of Ours” and “Journeys”. “Empire Over the Heart” holds out the promise of calmness and peace, although the last verse of “Lights Out on Broadway”--“The nightlight/shines its light more on your cheeks?/I know the enemy…/she rolls over and we duel.”--emphasizes that much of life is conflict—healthful conflict, but conflict nonetheless.

Like some self-published books, The Death of Equal Handshakes could do with some proofreading—“alter” for “altar” in “Loss” is a distraction and occasional omissions of punctuation disrupt the flow of some other poems, although this may have been deliberate on Visconti’s part.

ViscontiÂ’s poetry has been published on the Internet, where it seems to have a following. How The Death of Equal Handshakes will fare in the print world remains to be seen. We wish the author success.

Orthopaedic Oncologist James C. Wittig, MD Featured in New York Magazine's Best Doctors Issue for 2010

Orthopaedic Oncologist James C. Wittig, MD Featured in New York Magazine's Best Doctors Issue for 2010

Deep Medical Insight, Compassionate Care and a Commitment to achieving treatment advances for benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors places Sarcoma Surgeon and Orthopaedic Oncologist Dr. Wittig at the top of his field

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 12, 2010

Whether he is consulting with a patient, building a sarcoma team or overseeing the Orthopaedic Oncology and Sarcoma Program at Mount Sinai Medical Center, James C. Wittig, MD, continues to be recognized for his surgical skills, personality and unmatched foresight to diagnose, treat and manage each and every case with individualized care, incredible resources and fortitude. Dr. Wittig has been featured in New York Magazine's "Best Doctors" issue dated June 14, 2010 as one of the best orthopaedic surgeons in the New York Metro area.

As a child, while growing up in Paterson, New Jersey, a young Jim Wittig often carried a doctor's bag, making it very clear and obvious to those who knew him that he would someday commit his life to medicine. Adding the simple lessons of hard work, community outreach and motivation received either at home, on the playing field or in school set him up on a successful journey that formally began two decades ago. In 1990 he received Biology Department Honors Citation for Superior Academic Achievement and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Seton Hall University. Four years later received his Medical Degree from New York University School of Medicine where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society and also served as president of the society. During medical school, he also received "Most Outstanding Research Presentation on Medical Student Assembly Day, The Lange Medical Publication Award for Outstanding Achievement as a Medical Student and the Glover C. Arnold surgical Award for the Medical Student who excelled in Surgery. From NYU he interned in General Surgery at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center and did his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City where he was appointed Administrative Chief Resident received the 'Orren D. The experience and accolades he has received along his medical journey has continued to enrich his desire to teach fellow colleagues as well as secure the best treatment options available for both adults and children affected by orthopedic tumors. While an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Medical Center he received 'Teacher of the Year for Outstanding Leadership, Guidance and Selfless Dedication to the Residents of NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopedic Surgery Class of 2007.'  His desire was also transparent when he joined Mount Sinai Medical Center and was asked to develop a multidisciplinary team to treat sarcomas and other musculoskeletal tumors. In a two year span, he has performed over 600 cases and has dramatically changed the lives of those who have met him. Dr. Wittig has been instrumental in recruiting a team of specialists who focus on diagnosing and treating sarcomas as well as other types of bone and soft tissue tumors that affect the extremities, pelvis and spine. Currently, the team consists of specialized Pathologist Dr. Roberto Garcia; Musculoskeletal Radiologist Dr. Kapil Desai, a Pediatric Oncologist, Dr Birte Wistinghausen and a Radiation Oncologist, Dr Vishal Gupta as well as three Physician Assistants, 2 administrative assistants, a second orthopedic oncologist, Dr. Ilya Iofin and Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi, a spine surgeon focusing on a collaborative approach for spine tumors.

Although the accolades are many for Dr. Wittig, none can quite compare to the heartfelt comments and updates he receives from his patients - whether 'near or far' or even those who have taken a plane cross country to see him. His 'bedside manner' has not yielded. It is the combination of gained medical insight, compassion in his care and a commitment to excellence that has made him one of the leading orthopedic oncologists in the country and one of only 150 doctors who specializes in this field.

James C. Wittig, MD specializes in limb-sparing surgery; pediatric and adult bone and soft tissue sarcomas; melanoma; benign musculoskeletal tumors; metastatic cancers; as well as complex hip and knee replacement surgery. Foreword Reviews Gave the UniversityOfHealthCare Title OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens a Five-star Book/CD Review Rating

Foreword Reviews Gave the UniversityOfHealthCare Title OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens a Five-star Book/CD Review Rating

UniversityOfHealthCare, a healthcare and management e-learning provider, has been recognized for another high quality title of great use to individuals and organizations. Preventing the transmission of diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis is a concern of OSHA for all businesses.

(PRWEB) February 5, 2005

This program is available in the following formats:

Web-based on the UniversityOfHealthCare website at www. uohc. com/courseentry. htm (http://www. uohc. com/courseentry. htm ) CD-ROM, Manual/CD-ROM combination, or Library Edition Manual/CD combination at www. atlasbooks. com/uohc (http://www. atlasbooks. com/uohc) (Libraries and bookstores may also obtain through Ingram and Baker and Taylor, but Atlas Books has the most recent titles and will handle back orders.) Group licensing for a corporate Learning Management System Multiuser site licenses are already available for 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 users. For custom work, contact sales@uohc. com

This course covers one of the most important parts of required OSHA training for almost all companies, and of course it is of special relevance for those in healthcare. It is rare for compliance training to be recognized for such high quality.

The CD or web course enables the documentation of successful completion with a certificate, and provides an excellent method to document training for an audit.

Anyone who would like to be added to the UniversityOfHealthCare mailing list should send a note with name, company, and email address to sales@uohc. com.

The Review:

This combined book and CD training tool details Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations aimed at halting the spread of disease from bloodborne pathogens. Bloodborne means "carried by the blood," and a pathogen is defined here as an organism that causes disease.

Though this work is introductory in nature, that by no means limits its scope. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Manual and CD addresses everything managers and employees in a healthcare environment need to know to establish and maintain a worker safety program that fulfills OSHA requirements and improves patient and employee safety. Other industries in which managers or directors must address infectious disease, such as schools, summer camps, athletic facilities, etc., could also benefit from studying portions of the information and procedures herein.

The most common bloodborne pathogens are the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). Other viruses such as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis C are also, to various degrees, transmitted through body fluids, mainly blood, from someone who has the pathogen to a healthy person. The various pathogens are clearly identified and distinguished from each other and much attention is paid to exactly how healthy individuals are infected. This helps with strategizing the best and most effective ways of prevention, including mandatory protective strategies and lists of specific equipment used to shield medical personnel as they perform invasive procedures. The glossary is basic but helpful and explains the terminology used in the CD as well as specific OSHA statutes attached at end of the book.

While the information, methods, and facts provided here are of the most serious nature, the tone of the writing is less technical and more conversational, making the work quite accessible. A question and answer format included works well, enabling even the new hire or medical student to understand the basic concepts behind the OSHA requirements. This accessibility is reinforced by the CD, which includes bright graphics and video that will be especially appreciated by visual learners.

Authors Dr. Daniel Farb and Bruce Gordon have created a useful and lifesaving tool that should be required reading for all who work in a healthcare setting. - Patricia Weber

MetaCarta and Qbase Strengthen Offerings Through Acquisition

MetaCarta and Qbase Strengthen Offerings Through Acquisition

Geographic Search Solution Now Offered by Actionable Intelligence Provider

Reston, VA (PRWEB) November 1, 2010

MetaCarta, Inc., the leading provider of geographic search solutions, today announced that it has been acquired by Qbase, LLC in a deal that took place in July. Each company brings complementary client bases that play into the core competencies of the combined entity presenting opportunities for further growth in the business and geospatial intelligence market.

An estimated 80% of documents are unstructured or semi structured, meaning they contain data that is hard to extract. The ability to accurately identify places in these documents and give them geographic coordinates is MetaCarta’s strength, and is critical to the work Qbase does.

As a data solutions provider with the technical expertise to effectively deal with massive amounts of data, Qbase saw a unique integration opportunity with MetaCarta’s geospatial specific applications, technology and entity recognition solutions. The combined company has strengthened their offerings by providing IT and data services to MetaCarta’s customers and by providing geointelligence solutions to Qbase’s customers. Ultimately, Qbase sought out MetaCarta for:

The scale of their Geographic Data Modules – With over 225 million place names in MetaCarta’s Geographic Data Modules (GDMs), their Geographic Search and Referencing Platform can identify geographic references and assign latitude/longitude coordinates to more places than any other product on the market. Customers can use combinations of GDMs based on their needs to provide the breadth of information or detail required.  The quality of disambiguation – Advanced natural language processing algorithms allow for distinction between proper names and place names as well as distinguishing between locations of the same name. These algorithms actually train the software to understand how people write and where to find influencing factors within the text.  The speed of the system – The technology can parse a large amount of structured and semi-structured data at record speeds.

“The addition of MetaCarta’s geointelligence portfolio to Qbase’s data mining platform results in delivery of actionable information that customers can use to make real-time decisions,” said Steve Baldwin, president and CEO of Qbase. “Our technologies are specifically designed to help government agencies better mine data and make critical decisions that enable them to meet their ultimate goal of protecting US citizens.”

The combined entity will continue to focus on the public sector and commercial enterprise markets, including the oil and gas industry.

With the geospatial industry growing beyond the traditional mapping function to any domain where location is of critical interest, the recently combined company will initially focus on:

Integrating MetaCarta and Qbase data tools – Qbase sees early opportunities to enhance MetaCarta’s products by incorporating its data tools technology.  Geographic data analytics – Traditionally, Qbase has delivered custom and automated analytics on a number of topics. With the acquisition of MetaCarta they will look to add a host of geospatial analytics as both products and services. These will range from simple reporting to predicting behavior based on location.  Situational awareness – Qbase will focus on the addition of unstructured and semi-structured text documents to its current situational awareness offerings. Qbase fuses multiple data types (including video, images, structured and unstructured) both geospatially and temporally.

With the addition of MetaCarta, Qbase is now better positioned to deliver high-value decision support and consulting services to its customers. The company will continue to develop and bring enhanced business intelligence capabilities and geospatial technologies to the forefront enabling organizations to efficiently solve their mission-critical challenges.

About Qbase

A Growing Network of Caring Individuals is Dedicated to Helping Kids in Need Right Here in America

A Growing Network of Caring Individuals is Dedicated to Helping Kids in Need Right Here in America

Caring Pals USA was established to bring together individuals, groups, and businesses throughout the country to identify, research, promote, and support small non-profit organizations with proven-effective programs helping kids in communities across America. And when a need is discovered that no organization big or small is addressing, the Caring Pals network of volunteers springs to action creating and implementing projects aimed at addressing that need.

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 25, 2006

Presently, there are more than 1.5 million charities in America. "While this certainly gives potential donors options, it often makes the decision as to which ones to support nearly impossible," says Kimberly Clark, Volunteer Director for Caring Pals USA, a swiftly-growing network of individuals dedicated to helping kids in America.

In fact, potential donors looking to support education in Des Moines, Iowa, have 330 nonprofits to choose from. San Francisco givers who want to help the city's homeless have more than 125 possibilities. Portland, Maine, has more than 450 charities that help children."

Sorting through the maze of nonprofits has become a business in itself, with some for-profit businesses charging fees for viewing financial reports of seemingly endless lists of charities. "Many nonprofits have administrative operations that need and deserve support," explains Clark, "But with so much of the attention going to the larger organizations, the little ones, many doing exemplary things, are often overlooked. Moreover, small organizations, cannot match the ability of the giant ones to garner public attention."

In 2005, donors gave $260.3 billion, a 2.7% increase from the $248.5 billion giving in 2004, this according to the Giving Foundation, with the greatest share going to the major organizations like the United Way, the American Red Cross, and large religious groups.

What needs to happen, say many, is for the smaller nonprofits to begin merging or to otherwise consolidate their operations. Some communities, including Pittsburgh, have offered financial incentives to encourage charities to merge. "In this way," says Clark, "the local groups doing so much good work, but presently without the resources to 'compete' with the giant corporations, can attract more support, while making it easier for the individual givers whom account for more than 75% of donations to nonprofits."

While applauding the efforts and successes of those giant NPOs primarily focused on helping those in other parts of the world, Caring Pals USA was established to bring together individuals, groups, and businesses throughout America to identify, research, promote, and support smaller organizations with proven-effective programs helping kids in communities across this country. And to facilitate cooperation between them.

And what about the needs of some children that are presently unaddressed or not adequately addressed by any organization big or small? "Our network of volunteers springs to action creating and implementing projects aimed at addressing those needs," Clark says with a look of determination and compassion on her face. "We implore everyone to join us in this mission to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow to be a healthy, happy, educated adult."

Pew Center Report -- New Approaches to Global Warming for Major Economies

Pew Center Report -- New Approaches to Global Warming for Major Economies

New report on global warming offers options and recommendations for engaging major economies in the advancement of international climate change post Kyoto Protocol expiration in 2012.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) November 17, 2005

A new report offers recommendations for engaging major economies in efforts to address global warming. Released today by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, the new report offers options and recommendations from senior policymakers and stakeholders from around the world.

The report outlines the conclusions of the Climate Dialogue at Pocantico, a group of 25 from government, business, and civil society brought together by the Pew Center for a series of discussions exploring options for advancing the international climate effort post Kyoto Protocol expiration in 2012. It will be formally released at an event in the U. S. Senate Foreign Relations hearing room hosted by Senator Richard G. Lugar (R-Indiana) and Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Delaware), the committee’s Chairman and Ranking Minority Member.

In their report, the dialogue participants call for a more flexible international framework allowing countries to take on different types of climate commitments. As a step toward that, the report urges the convening of a high-level political dialogue among major economies to begin scoping out post-Kyoto Protocol strategies. The report comes two weeks before the start of climate negotiations in Montreal where governments will consider launching a new process to consider next steps in the international climate effort.

"The clear message from this very diverse group is that we need to move urgently and we need all the major economies engaged," said Eileen Claussen, President of the Pew Center and co-chair of the Pocantico dialogue. "We must broaden the international effort with new approaches that give countries more flexibility and produce real results. The place to start is Montreal."

Dialogue members convened four times from July 2004 to September 2005. The participants, who took part in their personal capacities, included policymakers from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Malta, Mexico, Tuvalu, the United Kingdom, and the United States; senior executives from Alcoa, BP, DuPont, Eskom (South Africa), Exelon, Rio Tinto, and Toyota; and experts from the Pew Center, The Energy and Resources Institute (India), and the World Economic Forum.

"The Pocantico dialogue brought committed companies together with seasoned climate negotiators to look for solutions that are practical, politically viable, and effective," said dialogue co-chair Ged Davis, a Managing Director at the World Economic Forum, the Geneva-based organization that sponsors the annual Davos economic summit. "It is critical that business stakeholders be closely engaged as governments move forward and consider next steps in the international effort."

Other speakers at today’s event will include Michael J. The report, International Climate Efforts Beyond 2012 – Report of the Climate Dialogue at Pocantico, describes several "elements" or policy approaches and ways they could be linked to one another under the 1992 Framework Convention on Climate Change. The elements include:

Emission targets and trading, with targets varying in form, stringency, and timing;  Agreements negotiated across the power, automotive, or other key sectors;  Policy-based approaches committing countries to steps advancing both climate and development objectives without binding them to fixed emission limits;  Stronger cooperation to develop long-term "breakthrough" technologies and to deploy existing and new technologies in developing countries; and  New assistance to help highly vulnerable countries cope with urgent adaptation needs and support the development of comprehensive national adaptation strategies.

While multiple approaches could be pursued in parallel, the report says, a stronger overall effort may be possible only if they are linked in an integrated framework, giving countries the opportunity to negotiate across tracks and take on different types of commitments.

The report says that a high-level dialogue among major economies seeking broader political consensus on future multilateral efforts may be most productive if convened outside the formal negotiating process, but that any formal agreements should be negotiated under the Framework Convention.

"We won’t make real progress in the negotiations until we have a stronger political consensus among the major players, including the United States and key developing countries," said Claussen. "That requires work on many fronts. But it also requires a genuine dialogue among leaders on how to take this effort forward beyond 2012."

Governments will gather in Montreal on November 28-December 9 for the Eleventh Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention and the First Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP 11-MOP 1). Under the Kyoto Protocol, parties to the Protocol must initiate consideration this year of commitments for the period beyond 2012, when the existing Kyoto commitments will expire. Some governments favor a parallel process to consider new steps under the Convention.

Meetings of the Climate Dialogue at Pocantico were held at the Pocantico Conference Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in Tarrytown, New York. The dialogue was supported by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the U. N. Foundation, the Wallace Global Fund, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

National Center for Parents as Teachers Names 25th Anniversary Event Chairs

National Center for Parents as Teachers Names 25th Anniversary Event Chairs

Celebration event set for November 7, 2009

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) January 8, 2009

Children don't come with instruction manuals, so for 25 years Parents as Teachers has been helping parents embrace their important role as their child's first and best teacher. In 2009, the National Center for Parents as Teachers will mark 25 years of providing parent education and early childhood development services to families throughout the world. Dee Joyner, senior vice president at Commerce Bank, and June McAllister Fowler, vice president at BJC Health Care, will co-chair a celebration event on Nov. 7, 2009, at The Chase Park Plaza to honor the many founders, supporters and champions of Parents as Teachers.

"These two women are outstanding examples of successful community leaders, who are as dedicated to giving back to the community as they are to their careers," said Susan Stepleton, president and CEO of the National Center for Parents as Teachers. "We are so grateful to have their support as we lay the groundwork for expanding to effectively serve more families."

Joyner joined Commerce Bank 18 years ago and has served in her current role for eight years. In this position, she oversees organization development for the entire corporation and community relations for the St. Louis region. Prior to joining Commerce Bank, Joyner served in several capacities, including chief of staff to the St. Louis County Executive and as director of community affairs for the East-West Gateway Coordinating Council.

Fowler serves as vice president overseeing corporate and public communications for BJC Health Care. In this role, she is responsible for media relations, executive communications, marketing, community affairs, public policy, and the employee newspaper, BJC Today. Fowler is an active volunteer throughout the St. Louis area, serving as vice president of St. Louis County Economic Council and as a board member of the St. Louis Science Center, Associated Industries of Missouri and Citizens for Modern Transit.

"In our first 25 years, Parents as Teachers has depended on our outstanding parent educators to arm new parents with the knowledge and resources necessary to build stronger families for tomorrow," said Stepleton. "This event will celebrate our many milestones and successes, and we're thrilled to have Dee and June lead us in highlighting how Parents as Teachers has benefited millions of families as we look to the next 25 years."

Jane Nelson, vice chair of the National Center's board of directors, has been tapped to lead the board campaign for the 25th anniversary. Nelson is general counsel and secretary of CPI Corp., a company which operates more than 1,000 portrait photography studios under a license with Sears. She also serves on the Express Scripts Foundation Board and the Friends Committee for the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center and is a member of the Missouri Bar, the South Dakota Bar and the Association of Corporate Counsel.

In addition to the November celebration event, the National Center for Parents as Teachers will implement a 25th anniversary campaign in Missouri to raise additional funds for the National Center to support the expansion of services offered. Barrett Toan, former chairman and CEO of Express Scripts, and Don Hall, Jr., president and CEO of Hallmark, will co-chair that campaign.

The goal of the National Center's 25th anniversary campaign is to secure funding to strengthen the overall capacity of the Parents as Teachers network to provide parents with personal, ongoing, research-based information to help them navigate the crucial early years of their children's development.

Links Between Poor Oral Health & Pancreatic Cancer

Links Between Poor Oral Health & Pancreatic Cancer

A recent article in The Wall Street Journal detailing a strong link between poor oral health and pancreatic cancer raises concerns for those patients who don't have equal access to dental care. Moreover, new proposals by the American Dental Association would greatly restrict the ability of many veteran dentists to serve patients who are most in need of care. A newly formed non-profit, TEAM 1500, is organizing a protest against the ADA on behalf of patients and their family dentists.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2007

A recent column in The Wall Street Journal noted a strong link between poor oral health and deadly pancreatic cancer.

The Trust for Equal Access Medicine (TEAM 1500) is urging all dental professionals to read the story and in light of its powerful implications take proactive steps to ensure that the most needy dental patients are not turned away.

In particular, TEAM 1500 is concerned about the impact of new guidelines recently proposed by the American Dental Association (ADA). If approved, in the view of TEAM 1500, the ADA proposals would instantly disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of fearful and anxious patients from obtaining the vital oral health care they require.

Moreover, in the long run, millions of current and prospective dental patients would specifically avoid going to the dentist because of the ADA's proposed guidelines, TEAM 1500 believes.

The Wall Street Journal story, titled "Poor Oral Health Is Linked To Deadly Pancreatic Cancer" (Tuesday, January 23, Page D1), cited a study of 51,000 men. Those with a history of gum disease were at 64% higher risk for pancreatic cancer versus those who had good oral health, the newspaper noted.

Moreover, reporter Tara Parker-Pope also wrote that "some early research suggests that treating gum disease may lower risk for heart and other problems associated with poor oral health."

"The Journal article is particularly relevant in light of the ADA's new and misguided efforts that for many would effectively restrict public access to their family dentists," says Dean Rotbart, director of TEAM 1500, a newly formed non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring equal access to health care for all Americans.

"You'd think armed with the type of evidence noted in the WSJ article, the ADA would be racking its brains trying to figure out how to drive people to their neighborhood dentists," Rotbart adds. "Instead, the ADA is throwing up roadblocks like rice at a wedding."

Rotbart and TEAM 1500 are strongly critical of new ADA proposals that would require dentists to make a significant leap in the amount of training the ADA recommends they receive before they can provide their anxious and fearful patients with a widely utilized form of safe and proven anesthesia known as oral conscious sedation, or OCS. More than one million adults -- most of whom would not otherwise visit a dentist due to their anxiety and fear -- have been treated safely and effectively with OCS for nearly two decades.

Because the new guidelines would require dentists -- even those who have been providing oral conscious sedation for years -- to obtain significantly more training, TEAM 1500 forecasts thousands upon thousands of dentists will stop offering OCS to their patients if the ADA guidelines are approved. In turn, TEAM 1500 believes, hundreds of thousands of patients will quit regular dental visits, putting them at high risk for oral and overall health trauma.

"I think we all must realize that what is at issue here in not merely the teeth, comfort and smiles of dental patients," Rotbart says. "In a very real sense, we are fighting to save their lives."

TEAM 1500 requests that dentists who don't want to lose their right to administer safe, effective oral conscious sedation write a letter saying as much and mail it to:

ADA Protest

C/o TEAM 1500

P. O. Box 3714

Beverly Hills, CA 90212

All letters should be postmarked no later than February 9, 2007. For more information on TEAM 1500, visit its web site at www. team1500.org.

Dental patients who wish to protest may also send their letters to the address above.

RCOG Completes Successful Atlanta Community Prostate Cancer Screening

RCOG Completes Successful Atlanta Community Prostate Cancer Screening

For one week in January Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (rcog. com) and NewsTalk 750 WSB teamed up to promote prostate cancer educational outreach. Called the 'Prostate Proactivity Campaign,' the effort helped screen over 1,700 men throughout metro Atlanta with potential life-saving full prostate cancer screenings at no cost. Atlanta is the home of RCOG, the only source for the ProstRcision cancer treatment procedure. ProstRcision (prostrcision. com) has the highest documented prostate cancer cure rate in the world.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 9, 2009

Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (rcog. com) is proud to announce the successful full prostate screening of over 1,700 men throughout metro Atlanta. Called the "Prostate Proactivity Campaign," the potentially life-saving prostate cancer screening was provided by a joint educational outreach effort by Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) and NewsTalk 750 WSB.

Combating the Second Leading Cause of Cancer Death in American Men:

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men--one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. If detected early and combined with proper prostate cancer treatment (http://www. prostrcision. com/) the cure rate is nearly 100 percent.

Full Screenings at No Cost:

Mobile testing units were dispatched to Atlanta, Cumming, Snellville, Covington, Buford and Kennesaw during the week with the help of Zero (zerocancer. org). The mobile team provided full prostate screenings, including DRE and PSA tests. PSA tests were sent to the University of Michigan for analysis and the men participating in the screening were notified of the results. In addition to the screenings, information about prostate health (http://www. prostrcision. com/prostate-cancer/) was provided at all locations.

John Critz, Vice President of Marketing for RCOG explains, "We are thrilled with the Atlanta-area's community response to the screenings. Last year we screened just over 1,000 men, and this year to screen over 1,700 speaks to is truly a testament to the growing awareness of the prevalence of prostate cancer. The most important thing we at Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia want men to know about prostate cancer is that it is highly curable -- If it is detected early, and regular screening is the key to early diagnosis.

Importance of Screenings:

Prostate cancer can be detected through a PSA test. This test is a simple blood test that determines the level of prostate-specific antigen levels in the body. It is recommended men 50 years of age and older are screened annually for prostate cancer. African-American men and men with a family history of prostate cancer are advised to be testing at age 40, as they are at a higher risk to develop prostate cancer. Depending on the results from this test, men may be referred for a biopsy of the prostate.

The Only Source for ProstRcision:

Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia, based in metro Atlanta, is the only source for ProstRcision. ProstRcision is a prostate cancer radiation therapy (http://www. rcog. com/treatments/) procedure that boasts an 83% overall cure rate using the absolute strictest definition of cure, the highest documented cure rate in the world for prostate cancer. Each year hundreds of patients from across the country and throughout the world travel to Georgia to seeking cure of their prostate cancer by the ProstRcision procedure. ProstRcision is also the preferred treatment method for many men because of the lower incidences of side effects, particularly incontinence and impotence, relative to other treatment procedures.

If you have questions about prostate cancer (http://www. prostrcision. com/qa/), or to learn more about the differences between ProstRcision at Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia and prostate cancer surgery (http://www. rcog. com/), including robotic radical prostatectomy, visit RCOG. com and ProstRcision. com or call 1-800-952-7687.

About Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia

Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia is a Center of Excellence for prostate cancer treatment and research. Each year hundreds of men travel to receive prostate cancer treatment in Atlanta, Georgia (http://www. rcog. com/about/our-facilities. php) from RCOG. RCOG is one of the oldest prostate seed implant programs in the world. The first prostate implant for prostate cancer at RCOG was performed in 1977, and the first patient was treated with the combination therapy now called ProstRcision in 1979. Dr. Frank Critz, founder and medical director of RCOG, developed the ProstRcision procedure and has treated more than 8,000 patients with the disease in the past 25 years. RCOG is the only source for ProstRcision, in which two forms of radiation therapy are used to destroy the prostate gland. To date, nearly 12,000 men have received treatment with ProstRcision at RCOG's seven Metro Atlanta clinics. To learn more, please visit rcog. com.

BridgeHead Software and Young Minds Collaborate to Deliver Compliant DVD Archiving Solution for Long-term Data Retention

BridgeHead Software and Young Minds Collaborate to Deliver Compliant DVD Archiving Solution for Long-term Data Retention

Woburn, MA (PRWEB) August 26, 2006

USA-based Young Minds, Inc. (YMi) and BridgeHead Software today announced that BridgeHead’s suite of compliance-enabling storage management and data protection solutions has been integrated with YMi’s DVD-based Recording and Library product portfolio.

YMi provides a complete line of data storage and archiving hardware solutions based on CD and DVD recording, while BridgeHead‘s multi-platform software solutions are designed for archive, enterprise backup, media management and disaster recovery. Both companies’ solutions are optimized for mid - to large - organizations.

The objective of the collaboration was to integrate BridgeHead’s advanced policy-driven archive software with YMi’s archive hardware, resulting in a physically-robust archive solution that enables customers to comply easily with current data retention regulations and legislation.

Available through YMi’s master distributor Data Assurance, the combined solution will provide highly functional solutions for corporate customers and new opportunities for resellers to deploy ‘compliant archive’ solutions that are already integrated with storage management and Information Lifecycle Management functions.

There are significant benefits from the successful combination of DVD recordable (DVD-R/+R) media and BridgeHead’s Integrated Storage Management (ISM) software portfolio:

BridgeHead solutions employ a proactive, policy-based approach, identifying data that meet the conditions of a given archive policy and automatically migrating it to secondary storage.  YMi’s hardware delivers solutions that are reliable, scalable, cost-effective and easy to use. DVD media will be readable for decades.  Metadata and text indexing ensures an archive is fully searchable making the archive both useful and compliant. BridgeHead’s HT FileStore holds the all-important archive store metadata in its own database, which can itself be backed up and replicated to protect it. Unlike ‘stubbing’ techniques, this means that the stubs are not vulnerable to loss of the server on which the stubs reside.  There is no vendor lock-in, and data may be replicated to other media as required.  The ‘removable’ characteristic of DVD archive media and YMi’s standards compliance also makes DVD particularly effective as part of a wider disaster recovery strategy. It is ideal in hostile environments such as heat, cold, sand or damp, where other media such as disk or tape are vulnerable to rapid physical degradation.

Bob Levine of Data Assurance, which will distribute the solutions, said: “BridgeHead and YMi develop solutions for the same high-end customers, and the technologies are highly complimentary. The successful integration of the two elements enables us to provide more complete, turn-key solutions to both VARs and corporate end-users.”

Andrew Young, chairman and co-founder of Young Minds Inc., said: “YMi’s core strength is its technology: the physical attributes of the solutions, their reliability and cost-efficiency. Today’s announcement describes an integration with software that has similar attributes, resulting in a powerful solution for all our customers.”

Tony Cotterill, CEO at BridgeHead Software, said: “One of the big selling points for this solution will be its rapid return on investment, which is important for companies of any size. And, since both our software and YMi’s hardware adhere to international standards in force, customers can enjoy extra confidence in the resilience of the overall integration.”
