President of East Texas Company Releases "Average Joes" Song on YouTube

Clay Clemmer, President of Granite Division, Inc. (GDI) in Tyler, Texas is showing his patriotic colors by releasing a song he wrote called Average Joes. http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=s6V_I9kUyQ8

TYLER, Texas (PRWEB) October 25, 2008

In 1994, Clemmer wrote the song while serving in the Merchant Marines. He resurrected the lyrics and recorded audio and video at Robin Hood Studios in Tyler this past week.

"This is what I believe America needs to hear from an Average Joe, just like our plumber buddy," says Clemmer. "I own a business. I do not make $250,000 a year, not even close. I have had up to 50 plus employees and I have done everything possible to keep my word of giving my employees a minimum of 40 hours a week. I don't have health insurance; my kids get clothes from Wal-Mart and J. C.Penney's. My wife is an aid for the school district knocking down a whopping $1,050 a month take home. I provide a service for America by providing jobs for those who really want to work and enjoy doing it. We work and live within our means and don't expect any handouts or bailouts from the government or anyone else."

Clemmer is an inventor who developed a process for the manufacture of granite surfaces utilizing granite and marble 12"x12" tile. He has received two U. S. patents with three more pending. GDI's manufacturing facilities burned on June 9, 2008 but the employees teamed together to get the business back on its feet in two days, manufacturing its' patented GraniteLoc products in a nearby facility and selling marble slabs under the trees in the back of their property.

Clemmer began his work with natural stone in his family's monument shop when he was 14. His singing/songwriting skills took wings during his time in the Merchant Marines. The partnership which produced GDI began with a chance meeting at a gas station on I-20 near Dallas. In addition to his work with homes and businesses, his handiwork can be seen in a courthouse in Johnson County, numerous Catholic churches and a "Welcome to Texas" sign on I-40. www. granitedivision. com

Maternitique Announces the 2010 Holiday Gift Guide for New Moms & Babies

Maternitique Announces the 2010 Holiday Gift Guide for New Moms & Babies

National Maternity Boutique Reveals the Best in Safe, Natural Gifts for Pregnant Moms, New Moms and Babies. The First-Time Effort Aims to Show the Value of Hand-Selected, Personally Recommended Products for Gift-Givers, Just in Time for Holiday Shopping Season.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 31, 2010

Dads, grandparents and friends of expecting and new moms have a new resource for gift ideas in the 2010 Holiday Gift Guide unveiled this week at Maternitique, a national online maternity boutique specializing in safe, natural products to support new mothers. Suggestions fall into three categories: Gifts for Pregnant Moms, Gifts for New Moms, and New Baby Gifts. Each of the items has been hand-selected by Maternitique founder and CEO Tara M. Bloom to ensure the highest quality, value and delight for the deserving new mother.

Within each of the three categories of gift suggestions, Ms. Bloom has shared her personal explanations for why she’s picked the gift and for whom it’s most appropriate. “For the ‘I'm-Finally-Pregnant!’ Mom,” for example, Ms. Bloom points out that nearly 1 in 8 women today experience difficulty conceiving or other fertility complications. For these pregnant mothers, she recommends a pregnancy journal, to support them in preserving and celebrating their longed-for achievement.

“Maternity isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every woman has a unique journey into motherhood,” explains Ms. Bloom, “New mothers deserve gifts as special as they are, to honor them at this important time.”

Ms. Bloom notes that when it comes to buying for a new pregnancy and a new baby, all gift-givers want the best, but not everyone feels confident in knowing what constitutes “the best.” New fathers and grandparents, in particular, may find it overwhelming to sort through the myriad options available for pregnancy, postpartum and new baby gifts.

In this economy and with recent concerns about pesticide exposure, phthalates such as BPA and other health concerns for new babies, gift givers are being more selective. Today, it’s especially important to choose a gift for a new mother that she’ll use, enjoy and which will make her feel special—and confident that her baby’s health is protected. That’s where expert advice comes in.

“We want to show that Maternitique is the place to find the best in safe products for a healthy, beautiful pregnancy,” says Ms. Bloom. “This gift guide allows us to show new parents the difference between our gift selection and those offered by big box retailers.”

About Maternitique

Maternitique helps moms-to-be experience the natural beauty of motherhood. Founded in 2007 by a Portland, Oregon mom concerned about toxic ingredients affecting both fetal and environmental health, Maternitique is now the go-to destination for women from Park Avenue to Beverly Hills seeking the finest in safe, natural maternity. Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Names Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution First Research Partner

Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Names Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution First Research Partner

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution establish cooperative research and education program in marine sciences at KAUST's Red Sea campus in Saudi Arabia.

Dhahran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (PRWEB) August 13, 2007

The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) (http://www. kaust. edu. sa/) announced that the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) (http://www. whoi. edu/) will be the first partner in its global collaborative research program. A delegation from WHOI arrived on June 15 in Saudi Arabia to view the KAUST site and conclude the initial Memorandum of Understanding that was signed in April 2007.

KAUST is a new world-class graduate research university that is under development at a site along the Red Sea approximately 80 kilometers north of Jeddah. Set to open in September 2009, KAUST's aggressive global research program (http://www. kaust. edu. sa/research/default. aspx) begins now with collaborative projects such as the WHOI initiative announced this summer. The University expects to conclude as many as four collaborations with leading institutions in other fields. A substantial grant program for individual investigators and centers around the world and a student scholarship program (http://kaust. edu. sa/students/default. aspx) will be launched this summer.

Among KAUST's four fields of research, ocean research is critical because the coastal campus includes 19 million square meters of protected marine sanctuary. The Memorandum of Understanding signed by WHOI and KAUST creates three initial areas of research at KAUST: coral reefs; coastal hydrography; and fisheries and aquaculture. WHOI also will provide consultation on the design of laboratory support, and dock facilities for the KAUST Marine and Ocean Research Center (http://kaust. edu. sa/research/at-kaust. aspx), which will provide opportunities for advanced research on Red Sea oceanography and marine life.

"We treasure our relationship with Woods Hole not only because it is our first formal collaboration with another world-class research institution," said Nadhmi Al-Nasr, Interim President of KAUST, "but also because it will yield new discoveries from the Red Sea and enrich the minds of future scientists from around the world. KAUST will contribute to global scientific and technological advancement by bringing the world to Saudi Arabia (http://www. kaust. edu. sa/about/default. aspx) and Saudi Arabia to the world."

"We are excited to embark on this new collaborative research program with KAUST," said Dr. Laurence Madin, WHOI Director of Research. "The research programs will increase our fundamental understanding of the ocean and its ecosystems in this important part of the world, and should prove valuable to Saudi environmental resource managers."

The proposed coral reef (http://www. kaust. edu. sa/about/environmental-stewardship. aspx) systems research project will focus on corals and reef fishes and provide critical information for the protection and sustainable use of coral reef ecosystems along the Saudi Arabia coast in the northern central Red Sea. The project will assess a range of threats to coral reef health and identify regional environmental stress factors that make the reefs susceptible to disease, bleaching and death.

The goal of the proposed WHOI-KAUST three-year fisheries and aquaculture project will be to develop an integrated bioeconomic model of the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia that describes the dynamic relationships among fish stocks and the fisheries that harvest them. By tracing out the biological and economic effects of alternative fisheries policies, such a model provides support for resource managers.

The proposed coastal hydrography and circulation project will establish a suite of observational and modeling activities that will provide the first comprehensive description of the physical oceanography in the Red Sea. This research also will support studies of coral reef ecology and provide a baseline for long-term monitoring of the coastal environment.

KAUST is seeking to establish similar collaborations with other world-class scientific research institutions around the University's four core interdisciplinary research clusters: resources, energy and the environment; biosciences and engineering; materials science and engineering; and applied mathematics and computational science.

About KAUST

KAUST is being built in Saudi Arabia as an international, graduate-level research university dedicated to inspiring a new age of scientific achievement in the Kingdom, the region and around the globe. For more information about KAUST, visit www. kaust. edu. sa.

About Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is a private, independent organization in Falmouth, Mass., dedicated to marine research, engineering, and higher education. Bomgar Continues Growth Trend With Positive First Quarter Results

Bomgar Continues Growth Trend With Positive First Quarter Results

Increased demand for secure remote help desk technology supports a 28 percent sales increase this quarter.

Ridgeland, MS (PRWEB) April 23, 2009

Despite the widespread economic challenges the IT market faces today, Bomgar Corporation announced a 28 percent growth rate in Q1 of 2009 compared to the same quarter in 2008. This growth validates Bomgar's focus to deliver appliance-based remote support software that significantly improves IT support productivity and addresses enterprise security and compliance concerns. Several of the larger deals this quarter were in the financial, healthcare and education sectors with customer wins such as BNP Paribus, National Naval Medical Center and Carson City School District.

"IT support operations need technologies that enable the organization to optimize existing resources and achieve higher efficiency gains. With IT spend and workforce cutbacks on the rise, 2009 IT budgets are restricted to those projects that can show an immediate ROI," said Joel Bomgar, CEO and founder of Bomgar Corporation. "The value that Bomgar provides is the ability to improve call center efficiencies and deliver quality customer support, while drastically cutting costs."

A recent IDC report (1) identified the help desk among three key areas in the enterprise IT department which should be investigated for their ability to realize immediate cost avoidance or savings: "Advancements in technology and increased customer acceptance are enabling increased deployments of automated support and remote monitoring, which can help support providers deliver higher-quality support by focusing resources in a more targeted fashion," states Matt Healey, IDC Analyst. "Furthermore, this investment, allows enterprises to effectively optimize the size and responsibilities of their help desks that can result in immediate cost savings."

Bomgar is uniquely positioned in the remote support marketplace with its secure appliance-based help desk platform that minimizes the overall cost of IT support. Its flagship product, the Bomgar Box™, allows IT professionals to securely access multiple devices and platforms (i. e. Windows, Mac, Linux, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry) to be in more places and on more systems than possible with on-site or phone-only support. Typically customer ROI cycles are seen within 3-6 months.

With Bomgar, support representatives can view an end user screen and control the desktop remotely to perform immediate troubleshooting. Its robust platform boasts advanced logging and reporting features designed to ensure enterprise security and compliance. Bomgar also offers out-of-box integration with the top service desk management and trouble ticketing solutions, including BMC Remedy and HP Service Center and Service Manager.

(1) IDC, "Rationalizing the IT Support Services Budget for 2009: Three Things Enterprises Should Investigate", IDC, January 2009, #216088

About Bomgar

Bomgar Corporation specializes in appliance-based software for remote support in an enterprise environment. Bomgar allows companies to connect to remote clients and co-workers via the Internet anywhere in the world in seconds. The product allows organizations to optimize support by virtually accessing end-user systems for real-time incident resolution, eliminating the frustration of phone-only tech support. Bomgar provides enterprises with an unparalleled level of security and scalability, while enhancing IT resource management with the benefits of a virtualized help desk. Backed by venture capital, Bomgar has grown steadily since its inception in 2003 and has over 4,500 customers worldwide. Mrs. Pennsylvania America Contestant Helps those with Fibromyalgia

Mrs. Pennsylvania America Contestant Helps those with Fibromyalgia

Mrs. PA-America Contestant, Michele Paiva, of Downingtown, is holding a series of workshops targeted to different health issues; the first being on "Fibromyalgia" in mid-April

(PRWEB) March 28, 2004

On Tax day from 9-12, anyone who has Fibromyalgia or works with those who suffer from this condition, are welcome to attend a free workshop that will target the symptoms alternativly.

Michele Paiva, a certified myoskeletal therapist and yoga therapist, will be conducting the workshop. Paiva is also a contestant for the esteemed Mrs. America Pageant. She feels that the pageant is a great outlet for her causes, because it promote's women. As a member of the America family, she is able to reach out and use the pageant as a firm foundation to stand upon, to be a voice for others. She feels that women need to have additional health recources, such as alternative treatments. One way to get the message out to the healthcare system and to medical doctors, is to promote Naturopathic Doctors, Alternative healthcare and hope that all genres can work together to help a common cause; women's health and for this workshop, Fibromyalgia.

In her experience with patients and clients, she has found that alkalizing the body has a profound effect on the symptoms of this sometimes debilatating condition.

Although medical doctors often prescribe anti-inflamatories and mood enhancers, and often do suggest exercise, Paiva feels that this is not enough, and may possibly mask or worsen the symptoms long term.

"Any drug you take has side effects. Any drug you take can considerably alter brain chemistry. Also, any drug that you take, ends up being just another byproduct that needs to be brought through the body and excreted; many times that means some residue ends up in the liver and lymphatic system, thus creating more toxins, and possibly, more symptoms" said Paiva.

My goal is to help people manage symptoms. Even though I personally feel that over 80% of the diagnosed people are misdiagnosed, is not for me to say professionally. I can however, show all people that stress chemicals do create symptoms such as those in Fibromyalgia and other myalgia conditions which are related.

Often, when I work with a client one on one, we look at what happened in their life from six months to a year ahead of the onset of symptoms, and from that, we work backwards. We often can see where the body just said, "enough" and we can see how we can reverse many symptoms quite easily." said Paiva.

One major remedy is to check the ph. of the body. When the body ph. is off, all functions are not a top working condition...so making sure the ph is correct, you are doing a huge justice to your body.

If you'd like to register for the workshop or interview Paiva, please contact her at omwellness@aol. com

Planning & Organization Can Reduce Holiday Stress; FranklinCovey's Holiday Survey Reveals Top Stressors: Money, Gift-Giving & Health

Planning & Organization Can Reduce Holiday Stress; FranklinCovey's Holiday Survey Reveals Top Stressors: Money, Gift-Giving & Health

FranklinCovey (NYSE:FC), a global leader in effectiveness training, productivity tools, and assessment services, today released the results of its third annual Holiday Stress Survey. The survey polled 15,031 customers and found that the holiday season causes stress for 86 percent of respondents and leaves more than 60 percent feeling unfulfilled and regretful when it is finally over. The findings suggest that proper planning, organization and time management can play key roles in reducing holiday stress.

SALT LAKE CITY (PRWEB) December 4, 2007

As in past years, respondents were asked to rank the following holiday activities from most stressful to least stressful. While money and gift-giving still topped the list this year, health (taking care of one's physical well-being) replaced managing workload to take time off within the top four.

It's no surprise that money tops the list again this year, with nearly two-thirds of respondents saying they spend too much during the holidays. When asked why, 30 percent admitted they don't keep their commitment to stay within their budget and 21 percent said that they don't save enough throughout the year to cover their holiday spending. Interestingly, budgeting fell to the bottom of the list, suggesting that creating a budget isn't very stressful but staying within it is.

Three of the top five holiday stressors were shopping-related. Gift-giving stressed 85 percent of respondents with 66 percent attributing selecting the right gift as the cause for their stress. Also, holiday shopping stressed 85 percent of respondents, with nearly half of respondents saying that holiday traffic and crowded stores are to blame for their stress around holiday shopping.

Health also moved near the top of the list this year, since 77 percent of respondents don't keep to their diet and exercise plans during the holidays. Thirty-four percent of respondents admitted they fail to schedule in time to eat healthy or exercise during the holidays and 25 percent don't have a diet or exercise plan.

"Proper planning, organization and time management play a key role in avoiding holiday stress. Start by creating a holiday plan of action that includes those things that will make your holidays truly happy," said Julie Morgenstern, who is a planning, organization and time management expert and the New York Times best-selling author of Organizing from the Inside Out, Time Management from the Inside Out and Never Check E-mail in the Morning. "Decide what goals will be a win for you and enter them right into your calendar, because a 'to do' not connected to a 'when' never gets done. You may not complete everything, but if you commit to accomplishing the most important things, you will feel more fulfilled once the season is over."

After the holidays are over, 62% of respondents are left feeling unfulfilled and regretful and 26 percent of respondents attribute those feelings to not accomplishing all they had hoped during the holidays. Nearly 50 percent of respondents say they don't spend adequate time with family and friends during the holiday season and 15 percent let work interfere with family and friends.

"If you really want to enjoy a more guilt-free holiday season, make fewer commitments to yourself and keep them whether it's staying within your budget, spending more quality time with your family and friends, or taking care of your physical well-being. Keeping a promise to yourself will boost your spirits and let you truly enjoy the holiday season," said Morgenstern.

Morgenstern is also a contributor to O, The Oprah Magazine, and has been interviewed by The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America and The New York Times. She has partnered with FranklinCovey(R) (NYSE:FC) to design and launch her first exclusive organizing system and collection, Time Management Your Way. The new product line is based on her own methodology, which she has taught clients for 19 years, and is also closely aligned with the principles FranklinCovey teaches regarding planning, organization, time management, productivity, and goal achievement.

Below are seven tips from experts, Morgenstern and FranklinCovey on how planning, time management and organization can help to make the holiday season less stressful and more fulfilling:

FranklinCovey and Julie Morgenstern's 7 Tips for Reducing Holiday Stress

-- 1. Create a holiday plan of action

Determine the people and things that are essential to your holiday happiness (e. g. time spent with family and friends, gifts to buy, important holiday events and traditions). After you have identified what is most important to you, set goals as to how you will spend your time around that which you value. Break large goals down into less-daunting tasks so you don't get overwhelmed. Write goals down, review them often and stay committed to making them happen.

-- 2. Keep your key information in one planning tool and carry it with you.

Keep all your key information in one planning tool, including your appointments, tasks, contacts, gift list, holiday budget, gift receipts, health and fitness tracker, etc. Carry the tool with you at all times, so you have easy access to this vital information.

-- 3. Plan for 20 minutes weekly and 10 minutes daily.

Review your most important goals for the season and transfer them into your planning tool. Integrate your holiday activities along with your personal and professional goals, tasks and appointments to ensure that nothing critical is overlooked. Set specific deadlines. Be realistic with your time. Celebrate accomplishments and track and review your progress toward that which is most important to you this season.

-- 4. Create a holiday budget and stick to it.

Identify how much you can spend for the holidays and how much you will spend on each person on your gift list. Take your budget with you when you shop and track your spending so you know what you've spent. Budget for an unforeseen circumstance, such as the perfect gift that is no longer on sale or a gift for someone you forgot to place on your list.

-- 5. Don't overcomplicate gift buying.

Have a shopping plan before you go and limit the number of sources you utilize to buy gifts. Decide which stores you will visit and how long you will spend at each store. Shop in off hours to avoid holiday crowds. On-line shopping can save you time and money through quick price comparison, free gift wrapping and shipping. Follow your shopping plan as closely as possible so you don't get sidetracked, but be flexible enough to enjoy your shopping experience.

-- 6. Take time for self-renewal and personal well-being.

Don't forget to enjoy the season. You can't get everything done so just do that which matters most. Schedule time for exercise, eat healthy and take time for self-renewal. When you feel stressed, do something that helps you relax and refocus on what is most important (e. g. look at holiday lights, go to a holiday movie or concert, go caroling with family or friends, meditate by the fire, and volunteer to serve others.)

-- 7. Focus on getting work done so you can take time off.

While at work, focus on getting the job done so that when you leave work, you can focus on your personal life. Plan work projects to complete the most important things first so you can leave work on time. While with family and friends, focus on spending quality time with them and on renewing yourself.

"People have more to accomplish during the holiday season than at any other time of the year," said Stephen R. Covey, vice chairman of FranklinCovey and best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness. "But, those people who take the time to plan in advance and then manage their time around what is most important to them, such as family, friends, health and serving others, will find they will have less stress and more peace not only during the holiday season, but long after it has passed."

Methodology

This survey was conducted online within the United States between October 24 and November 5, 2007 among 15,031 FranklinCovey Customers nationwide. Of the 15,031 customers polled, 612 responded. Results provided have a 95% confidence level and an overall margin of error of +/-2.8 percent.

In theory, with a probability sample of this size, one can say with 95 percent certainty that the results have a statistical precision of +/-2 percentage point of what they would be if the entire adult population had been polled with complete accuracy. This online survey is not a probability sample.

Industry Leaders Weigh in on Likely Changes to the Health Plan Industry Under the Obama Administration and New Congress

Health Plan Week provides an in-depth analysis of potential changes to the health plan industry and their possible effect on health plans' bottom lines.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 17, 2008

AIS's Health Plan Week -- The Obama administration and new Congress promise to bring dramatic changes to the health plan industry. The Nov. 10 issue of Health Plan Week provides an in-depth analysis of potential changes and their possible effect on health plans' bottom lines. Go to http://www. aishealth. com/Products/NewsMCWESPEC5.html (http://www. aishealth. com/Products/NewsMCWESPEC5.html) to read the full story.

This issue of Health Plan Week contains highlights from exclusive interviews with nearly 20 industry observers and four newly elected state health insurance commissioners, bringing you a balanced look at what experts think is likely to happen. Questions addressed include:

-- With a stronger Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate, will the expected cuts in MA be great enough to force health plans to exit certain markets -- or the program altogether? And what is the likelihood that Medicare Advantage plans will be able to justify their current reimbursement rates by demonstrating results in enhanced quality and outcomes?

-- President-Elect Obama's proposal of creating state-run health insurance exchanges may be too bold to make happen right away, but what are the chances that Sen. Kennedy's behind-the-scenes efforts to craft sweeping reform will speed up the clock on implementation?

-- Funding for SCHIP is likely to be one of the first health care issues addressed in 2009 - how does this translate into opportunities for health plans that specialize in Medicaid managed care?

-- The unemployment rate is at a 14-year high and is predicted to be a factor in driving Medicaid enrollee numbers up, but will shrinking state budgets push carriers out of the business?

-- Although only 11 states have elected state health commissioners, four of the five posts up for election this year were won by Democrats, who all say reform is their top priority. How may these efforts translate into greater regulatory hassles for health plans?

For more on these exclusive interviews, go to http://www. aishealth. com/Products/NewsMCWESPEC5.html (http://www. aishealth. com/Products/NewsMCWESPEC5.html) and click on the Nov. 10 issue.

Since 1991, Health Plan Week has provided industry news and in-depth analysis to managers in hospitals and health systems, health insurance companies, medical groups, employers, pharmaceutical companies and those who sell products or services to the health care industry - giving them the information they need to maintain a competitive edge and improve their organization's bottom line.

11 Tips For Going Green In 2011

11 Tips For Going Green In 2011

The Smiling Green Mom Gives Us Her New Years Resolutions

(Vocus/PRWEB) January 04, 2011

There are many ways to make the New Year greener and healthier, just making a few small changes can have a great impact on the planet and personal health! There are many easy changes to implement into daily life to make the world a greener place. Smiling Green Mom Lynn Stone compiled a list of tips for going green in 2011.

Composting: Building a compost pile as a homeowner is an easy way to add many beneficial ingredients to the soil while reducing garbage volume! It can also benefit the community by reducing the nearly 25% of compostable landfill waste, according the Environmental Protection Agency.

Recycle paper and electronics: Recycling is beneficial in many ways and can be a convenient and an environmentally conscious step in the coming year! Anything from paper and plastics to metals and electronics can be recycled. This can save on the consumption of resources, the amount of landfill space being used and energy use. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that only 15-20% of e-waste is recycled, the rest of these electronics go directly into landfills and incinerators, causing dangerous heavy metals and toxins to build up with serious environmental risks. For more info on recycling your electronics, see http://www. digitaltips. org/green/default. asp as well as http://www. terracycle. net/ which provides free waste collection programs for hard to recycle materials that are then turned into green products!

Go Plastic Free: Get rid of plastic once and for all this year by switching to reusable whenever possible. One way to save money and protect our environment from the harmful effects of plastics and the chemicals used and the emissions given off in producing them, is to instead use reusable stainless steel water bottles and always carry cloth grocery bags anytime you are shopping!

Plant a garden: With the smallest amount of outdoor space, a garden can produce a wide variety of nutritious foods. Gardening can bring you back to nature while providing you and your family fresh wholesome foods with many benefits. If you don’t have room, consider a container garden or small herb garden to enhance your culinary experience!

Laundry: Whenever doing laundry, make sure it is a full load and wash clothes in cold water using a safe non-toxic laundry soap and hang clothes to dry for a clean, fresh and environmentally way to do your laundry in 2011.

Support local farmers and eat in season: Most grocery store food has been picked in the fields, sent to distribution centers and shipped thousands of miles before ever hitting your grocery store shelf. In contrast, when you purchase from local farmer’s, you are not only putting a face with your food, but your food has been picked within a day or two of purchasing making it ripe and delicious! Buying fresh local food has many advantages including, reduced vehicle pollution and packaging needed – while encouraging fresh and often-times organic and pesticide-free produce for better nutrition!

Unplug appliances and electronics: Consider purchasing new energy efficient models with an Energy Star label that guarantees that the product is energy efficient when it is time for an upgrade. This label is sponsored by the Department of Energy and the EPA and can offer substantial savings. If you are not in the position to purchase a new appliance, unplug the one you have if and when it is not needed or in use.

Turn it off! Turn the water off while brushing teeth and the lights off every time you leave the room. Consider purchasing low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and energy efficient CFL or LED light bulbs.

Use eco-friendly cleaning products: With just a few common household items, you can make your own cleaning products when you need them. Making your own cleaning products with ingredients such as vinegar, baking soda, lemon and tea tree oil, can save you money, time and the packaging required for the store-bought brands. Homemade cleaners are also safer and healthier when using non-toxic ingredients!

Never purchase paper towels or napkins again: Instead, use old washcloths cut into smaller squares, old socks for dusting, old t-shirts cut up for cleaning and reusable cloth napkins and hand-towels while out and about.

Borrow or Buy Used: Borrow your books, music and movies from your local library to save money while cutting down on the paper and ink needed to manufacture new. Set up online accounts with Ebay, freecycle. org or shop thrift stores and garage sales when looking for anything from clothing to furniture!

New Study Results Reaffirms Diachrome® Significantly Improves Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors In People With Type 2 Diabetes

New Study Results Reaffirms Diachrome® Significantly Improves Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors In People With Type 2 Diabetes

Nutrition 21 is a leading developer of nutritional products for cardiovascular health and diabetes; The market leader in nutritional chromium, Nutrition 21 currently holds 35 patents for nutrition products, 22 for chromium compounds and their uses. (Nutrition 21, Nutrition twenty-one, nutritional products, nutrition supplements, chromium picolinate, chromium, dietary supplement, weight management, cardiovascular health, diabetes, developer, manufacturer, research)

NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 17, 2005

Nutrition 21, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXXI) reported today results from a new clinical study that add to the growing body of clinical data demonstrating that daily supplementation with Diachrome, a combination of chromium picolinate and biotin, can significantly reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors in people with type 2 diabetes. Findings from the randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, were presented at the 2nd International Symposium on Triglycerides and HDL: Role in Cardiovascular Disease and the Metabolic Syndrome in New York, a meeting organized by the Giovanni Lorenzini Medical Foundation that is attended by both U. S. and international cardiologists and lipid specialists.

The study results presented include an analysis of subjects with type 2 diabetes who were moderately obese and taking oral antidiabetic medications. When Diachrome was added to daily treatment regimens, the atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), a predictive marker for cardiovascular disease that examines triglyceride and HDL cholesterol levels (good cholesterol), was significantly lower compared with the placebo group. The AIP in the Diachrome group dropped from 1.15 to 1.06, while it increased from 1.27 to 1.55 in the placebo group. A significant difference in triglycerides and cholesterol levels was also observed between the groups.

“These results support previous findings that Diachrome can serve as a safe and effective nutritional adjunct to medication in helping to lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels in people with type 2 diabetes,” said study investigator Jeffrey Geohas, Medical Director, Chicago Research Center. “The ability for Diachrome to reduce these risk factors is important in this population because heart disease is the leading cause of death in patients who suffer from diabetes,” said Dr. Geohas.

Nutrition 21, Inc. conducted the study in collaboration with the Chicago Research Center. “This study underscores the promise of Diachrome in helping to prevent cardiovascular disease in people with type 2 diabetes,” said Gail Montgomery, president and CEO of Nutrition 21. “As we share the wealth of clinical data demonstrating the benefits of Diachrome for people with type 2 diabetes, we anticipate that physicians will be eager to incorporate the product into clinical practice.”

Diachrome is a nutritional supplement specifically formulated for people with diabetes. It contains 600 mcg of chromium as Chromax® chromium picolinate and 2 mg of biotin. These two compounds are both Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use as ingredients in food and supplements. It is available for purchase by calling 1-866-DIACHROME or at www. diachrome. com.

About the Atherogenic Index of Plasma

AIP is an index used to measure the atherogenicity of plasma by examining the ratio of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol). It identifies the risk for atherogenesis (fat build up in the arteries), particularly in diabetes patients and is recognized as a predictor for heart attack. The measurement reflects the delicate balance of metabolic interactions with the whole lipoprotein complex. Physicians currently utilize AIP in clinical practice to quantify response to therapeutic interventions.

About Nutrition 21

Nutrition 21 is a nutritional bioscience company and the maker of chromium-based supplements with health benefits substantiated by clinical research. The company markets Chromax chromium picolinate, which is the most-studied form of the essential mineral chromium. Nutrition 21 also developed Diachrome, which is available through diabetes educators or at www. diachrome. com. Nutrition 21 holds 36 patents for nutrition products and uses, 27 of which are for chromium compounds and their uses. More information is available at www. nutrition21.com.

Lose Yourself in Other Worlds. Do Good in this One.

Baen Books writer Mark Van Name is donating 100% of his proceeds from the hardcover sales of his new novel, Children No More, to charity Falling Whistles to help rehabilitate and reintegrate child soldiers in the Congo. The book's official release date is August 3, and it should be available for pre-order at your favorite bookseller.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) August 2, 2010

Children No More is the fourth novel in the Jon and Lobo series, which follows the adventures of a nanotech-enhanced ex-soldier and his sentient predator-class assault vehicle across multiple future worlds. Though Children No More is a fictional adventure story, it also tackles difficult issues surrounding child soldiers and their reintegration into society.

"Baen Books is proud to publish Mark Van Name’s Children No More and to announce this unusual program,” said Publisher Toni Weisskopf, “not only because the novel is a superb and moving story, but also because we fully support the cause of reintegrating and rehabilitating child soldiers."

Falling Whistles is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, CA that works with community leaders in eastern Congo to rehabilitate and reintegrate war-affected children through health, education, job training, and extracurricular programs. Estimates suggest 30,000 children are serving as soldiers in Congo and up to 300,000 doing so around the world. Even after having escaped from the adults who enslaved them, many child soldiers are drawn back into war. Falling Whistles works to prevent these cycles of violence by reintegrating children into their communities.

"Falling Whistles works to rehabilitate children and to advocate for peace in our world’s deadliest war, now taking place in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” said David Lewis of Falling Whistles. “With Children No More, Mark Van Name adds his voice to a growing coalition of whistleblowers who are creatively speaking up for peace in Congo and asking for a new era where children are no longer forced to the front lines. His donation will help rehabilitate war-affected kids in Congo."

For more information on this donation program, visit www. childrennomore. com. New Study Tying an Increase in Traffic Ticket Citations to Shrinking Local Government Revenue Sources is Strongly Endorsed by TixNix. com

New Study Tying an Increase in Traffic Ticket Citations to Shrinking Local Government Revenue Sources is Strongly Endorsed by TixNix. com

TixNix. com announced today that it strongly endorses new research just published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. This new study shows a direct correlation between shrinking sources for municipal revenues and an increase in the issuance of traffic tickets. The study concludes that local governments often use traffic tickets as a means to enhance revenues during difficult economic times. These revenue enhancements are rarely rolled back, however, upon a change in economic fortune, the study found.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) October 11, 2006

TixNix. com announced today that it strongly endorses new research just published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. This new study shows a direct correlation between shrinking sources for municipal revenues and an increase in the issuance of traffic tickets. As the leading online attorney search center for professional and private motorists, TixNix. com fully supports the conclusions of this new research.

The study, authored by Thomas Garrett of the FRB and Gary Wagner of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, concludes that local governments often use traffic tickets as a means to enhance revenues during difficult economic times. These revenue enhancements are rarely rolled back, however, upon a change in economic fortune, the study found.

Upon release of the FRB study, Michigan defense attorney Mark Freedman said that he long suspected that traffic tickets served more of a revenue purpose than the strict enforcement of traffic laws.

"This is the first study I know of that actually uses real-world data to show a direct statistical correlation between traffic ticket citations and declining municipal revenue sources." Freedman, who specializes in traffic ticket defense continued, "I've seen anecdotal evidence of this tendency over the 13 years I've been fighting traffic tickets, but the new FRB research provides the first hard and credible data for this practice."

Steve Ehrenreich, creator of TixNix. com, found no surprises in the Federal Reserve study. He went on to say that "drivers are beginning to wake up to the fact that many traffic tickets are just nuisance penalties and really have nothing to do with public safety at all."

Ehrenreich has seen a large increase in his business because drivers today are more willing to fight this trend in local government finance. "As the most popular online site for fighting traffic tickets, we have seen triple digit growth in our traffic ticket inquiries." Ehrenreich cautioned, however, that "truckers, CDL holders and other professional drivers are particularly alarmed by this form of revenue enhancement by local governments."

Garrett and Wagner's research is a breakthrough in many ways in that it is the first study to use actual empirical evidence to calculate the relationship between the health of a local economy and the amount of revenue that local government generates from traffic tickets.

In their endeavor to provide a rigorous analysis of this relationship, Garrett and Wagner controlled for registered vehicles per capita, population density, age of driving population, political awareness of the residents and tourist activity in the local area. The study used data accumulated over more than a dozen years in the localities covered by the study.

In the end, the Federal Reserve study states that the relationship between the need for local revenue and the issuance of traffic tickets is not a symmetrical relationship.

While there is a positive correlation between the issuance of traffic tickets and the need for additional revenue sources during recessionary times, the issuance of traffic tickets does not seem to decline (as you might expect in a symmetrical relationship) during more expansionary economic times. Hence, the researchers termed this correlation an asymmetrical relationship.

In other words, traffic ticket issuance is not just used to smooth out revenues for local governments, but is actually used as a "revenue maximizer" for local governments. The issuance of traffic tickets ratchets up, but it rarely ratchets back down. In many areas of the country, traffic tickets are the highest revenue producers for cash-starved local governments. Many attorneys call this practice a hidden tax.

"Moving violations are inconsistently enforced from city to city and county to county," says Aaron Cohen, a criminal defense attorney with multiple offices in Florida. "The fact that local enforcement of traffic laws is so erratic, and even contradictory, indicates that traffic ticket fines provide an actual alternate revenue stream for local jurisdictions, and they go beyond just penalizing moving violations. Traffic fines have become one more way for local governments to balance their budgets."

Steven Owsley, a Houston criminal defense attorney who handles a large number of traffic ticket cases throughout Texas, responded to the newly-released study by saying, "The number of cases I see seems to have more to do with the health of the local economy than to population growth, number of vehicles on the road or any other factors that you might think would matter. In my opinion, traffic ticket issuance is primarily used to enhance city and county revenues."

In a study published by the Houston Chronicle, traffic violations in Houston accounted for 84.4% of all municipal court cases. Moving violations contributed 83% of these traffic cases, and the rest were parking tickets.

Moving violation cases have been increasing annually, while parking ticket revenues have remained steady from year to year. Traffic ticket cases grew at a rate far greater than could be explained by rising population or increase car registrations in the city, according to the Houston Chronicle study.

"We've known for years that local officials have a difficult time raising taxes because their constituents won't stand for it," said Paul Massa, whose Louisiana practice is primarily traffic ticket defense. "Issuing traffic tickets allows local officials to raise revenue without raising taxes." In fact, Massa noted, "most traffic ticket fines are really just an unregulated and unlegislated tax on drivers."

TixNix. com provides traffic ticket fighting services to professional drivers and private motorists from coast to coast. TixNix. com attorneys are currently available in 39 states, including Texas, California, New York, Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Louisiana and Florida.

FemNutrition. com Offers Ephedra5 -- Legal Ephedra-Based Diet Product

FemNutrition. com, a leading online retailer of women's nutritional supplements, announced Monday that it now offers the only legal ephedra containing diet product in the USA -- Ephedra 5.

Englewood, CO (PRWEB) April 3, 2007

Ephedra5, the newest innovation in the fight against unwanted fat, is now available at FemNutrition. com, a leading online retailer of women's nutritional supplements.

Each serving of Ephedra5 contains 100mg of ephedra along with the patented E5 proprietary blend. This unique mix of ingredients synergistically delivers users high energy along with a significant increase in thermogenesis.

The ephedra in Ephedra5 is from ephedra viridis. Ephedra viridis has a history of use that reaches back hundreds, if not thousands of years. The ephedra viridis in Ephedra5 has been assayed for biologically active compounds. It is known to contain neuroactive compounds identical to the Chinese and Indian varieties of ephedra such as ephedra sinica, also known as Ma Huang. Importantly however, ephedra viridis does not contain ephedrine alkaloids, which have been banned by the Food and Drug Administration for use in dietary supplements for weight loss... and yet, the effects of Ephedra5 are very real.

Chad M. Levine, President of Athletic Ventures, Inc., the corporation which operates FemNutrition. com, stated, "... customer feedback on this product has been very positive -- in fact, one individual reported weight loss of 11 pounds in two weeks of using Ephedra 5."

Levine went on to add that, "... while customers are reporting favorable results from using Ephedra5, it is not for everyone... the product also contains xanthines, and we recommend that individuals sensitive to caffeine or other stimulants, or those who are seeking to become pregnant, pregnant or nursing mothers refrain from using Ephedra5."

Newly Published Romance Novel Setting Is "White Lightning Road"

Newly Published Romance Novel Setting Is "White Lightning Road"

"White Lightning Road" is the title of a new contemporary romance story that has as its setting rural Highway LA146, a country road that meanders through the hills of northern Louisiana between Vienna in Lincoln Parish and Homer in Claiborne Parish. This road is called White Lightning Road by local folk.

Shreveport, LA (PRWEB) April 4, 2006

Author Harry E. Gilleland, Jr. has used northern Louisiana as the setting for his new contemporary romance novel entitled White Lightning Road. The cities of Shreveport, Ruston, and Monroe are locations in the novel, as well as rural highway LA146. This highway has an interesting history.

Moonshiners ran hooch up and down the roads around Lincoln and Claiborne Parishes during the 1920’s when these counties were dry by law. The parishes’ authorities wanted to construct a road running from Vienna in Lincoln Parish to Homer in Claiborne Parish. So, all the men that were arrested for transporting moonshine were sentenced to hard labor building this road. These convicted bootleggers had to cut down by hand all the trees to clear a roadway through the woods, clear the tree stumps and undergrowth, level the ground, burn the debris, and make the road using only shovels and mule-drawn skids. They made it as a dirt road in the 1920’s. Locally, it was called "White Lightning Road." It was made into a gravel road sometime in the 50’s and was finally paved in the 60’s.

"White Lightning Road" is the story of two best friends, Jennifer James and Sally Jeffers. Each was an urban teenager whose family moved to White Lightning Road, where they became life-long friends. They hated life in rural Louisiana. Upon graduation from high school, each escaped back to the big-city life they love. Now a family tragedy has brought Jennifer back to White Lightning Road. Soon she is embroiled in a mystery involving her neighbor Michael Garrott, a man widely believed to be an unpunished murderer. Thus begin the romantic adventures of both Jenny and Sally. It is a tale of mystery and romance.

White Lightning Road is available from the publisher at http://www. lulu. com/harry (http://www. lulu. com/harry). Soon it may be ordered on-line through Amazon. com, Barnes & Noble. com, and other booksellers, or it may be ordered through local bookstores.

Author Bio: Harry E. Gilleland, Jr. is a southerner by birth and by inclination. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, he now resides in Shreveport, Louisiana with his beloved wife, Linda, and their two dogs, Rusty and Pepper. Harry recently retired from a career as a Professor of Microbiology at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport and now devotes himself full-time to his writing. A writer of both poetry and prose, Harry has now published his fourth book.

Title: "White Lightning Road" by Harry E. Gilleland, Jr., ISBN 978-1-4116-8693-9, Lulu Press, Inc., 2006.

Billboard Taxi Media Inc. Launches Taxi Top Media Advertising on New York City Taxi Cabs. Visit TaxiTopMedia. com

Taxi Top Media provides medium to large business with a means to cost-effective brand awareness in the New York City area by using taxi cab tops to advertise billboard signs

(PRWEB) November 22, 2004

Taxi Top Media provides medium to large business with a means to cost-effective brand awareness in the New York City area by using taxi cab tops to advertise billboard signs. The concept is not new, but has seen significant resistance in the taxi medallion owner community. As more owners agree to put the typical triangular sign tops on their roofs and proudly display their advertisers products, the taxi media industry will continue its' healthy growth. In addition, there are new digital signs made by upstart Vert that allows the message to scroll like a ticker and change as the taxi drives through different neighborhoods under control of GPS satellite positioning. The ad agencies in New York can now add a viable tool for their clients to gain brand awareness and visibility in a demographic target region eagerly sought by advertisers. Recently on a given morning, companies proudly displaying themselves on taxi tops included Chase Bank, Delta Airlines, Jordache, Kenneth Cole, Hotels. biz and Flashdancers, a local gentleman's club. The latter and former seem to literally be on hundreds of taxi tops throughout the city and the numbers seems to be growing. Surely there must be some positive effect on sales when the numbers are becoming large and prominent.

The outdoor media industry attempts to gain clients' attention while they are in transit from home to work or meeting to meeting or errand to errand or just taking a walk to get lunch. The cute taxi tops have gotten our attention and seem here to stay. Now the companies who desire such exposure have another agency to call to set up taxi top ads. The process is simple and easy and starts with submitting a short form with one's requirements and a quote is generated and emailed back to the user. An ad with deposit is submitted, the displays are produced and before long a campaign that can range from one car to hundreds of taxi tops can start and last as long as desired. The company's offices are located at the Lincoln Building in New York City.

For more info, visit http://www. taxitopmedia. com (http://www. taxitopmedia. com) or email info@taxitopmedia. com. See you on the taxi tops!

New Blog for Chocolatiers at Perfect Confections

New Blog for Chocolatiers at Perfect Confections

Chocolate confection crafters www. Perfect-Confections. com have opened a new blog to discuss their quality delectables, giving shoppers a sneak peak into what it's like to work with saporous morsels in creative ways.

Holland, MI (PRWEB) August 15, 2008

Perfect Confections has long been known for providing quality chocolate delicacies in the realm of chocolate bark, truffles, and chocolate-dipped fruits, but they have now expanded to providing information about their confectionary arts on their new blog, www. ConfectionsBlog. com.

"I have a passion for good food, especially desserts -- in particular, for chocolates," says Mark Dulemba, owner and operator of www. Perfect-Confections. com. "I've always loved fruit in all forms -- fresh, dried, as cooking ingredients -- and it's kind of a marriage of these two things that I've always enjoyed. I want the blog to allow customers to share in this, giving them a look at what it is we do."

The blog itself will detail new products and ideas, as well as changes to the site and information about the chocolate culinary craft. "We'll be talking about the industry and industry-specific topics; new ways to use chocolates and fruits that maybe a lot of people haven't heard about," explains Mark. "We also want to comment about different health aspects of fruit and chocolate consumption, and give out different gift ideas for holidays and weddings, birthdays, things of that nature."

Mark has a long history with the idea of chocolates as a gift, and this was a strong influence on the formation of the business. "When I was a kid, we always had elaborate chocolates at birthdays and family celebrations," he says, reminiscing fondly. "This is something that was really important to my parents, and was always a part of our celebrations. Each one had some type of gourmet chocolates, and it's something I've always enjoyed; it's a very fond childhood memory."

Mark takes the long view on the business, using his enthusiasm for the confections as inspiration and doing what he can to share these delectable creations with the public. "I researched different markets and visited different chocolate shops around my hometown, and I looked at new and up-and-coming combinations of things people were buying," he explains. "I'm very enthusiastic about the site and its future, and about the new flavors that come with the seasons. There are, of course, seasonally-themed products -- fruits change year-round, and we're looking at dried cantaloupe and some different truffle combinations, but there are also marshmallow products that are a winter item. There are some products, such as chocolate-covered cherries and pineapple, which are available year-round. They make for a great combination of flavors."

Mark urges shoppers to visit his new blog at www. ConfectionsBlog. com, and also to www. Perfect-Confections. com to see which fruits are currently in season.

Carl F. Bucherer "Gold Rush!" Stylish Swiss Watches since 1919 Workhouse Publicity Announces Fall, 2005 Preview

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 12, 2005

Staying ahead of the curve with this year’s distinctive designs by Carl F. Bucherer. Once again the international brand proves to be at the forefront of innovative luxury by creating timepieces inspired with beauty, magnificent colors and transparency along with strength and durability.

“Simply sophisticated” is the name for this stunning Patravi Rose Gold Annual Calendar whose useful mechanical function calendar takes the different lengths of months into account and has to be corrected only once a year, at the end of February. With the Patravi Chronograph “big date” Annual Calendar, a complicated system of numerous wheels, levers and sliding gears that switches exactly to the first of the month, irrespective of whether 30 or 31 days have passed. The only correction required is a minor adjustment via the crown at the end of February.

Which is a useful complication showing the date on two separate disks. Another major advantage is the type of date indicator. On the Patravi Chronograph Annual Calendar the current date appears in a large window off the face. The beautifully framed date indicator is not placed in the usual position but at 12-o’clock. Hence all the functions are arranged symmetrically on the watch face, making it easy to read the date at a glance.

“Watchout” for today’s self-confident and independent women who favor a watch that embodies her individuality and stands out from the crowd. The Alacria Midi Yellow Gold from Carl F. Bucherer was created with just this in mind. Introduced in 2004, the first collection defined its own fresh, unique and appealing style, with its simple yet bold contours and high-quality stainless steel or gold materials complemented by sparkling diamonds and exquisite, exotic leather and textile straps.

Now, the uniquely graceful elegance of the case has been carried over into the design of the new bracelet, in yellow or white gold and stainless steel imparting a sublime harmony to the whole. We cordially invite you to contact Workhouse Publicity, Alexis Bodkin by telephone 212. 645. 8006 or via email alexis@workhousepr. com for an exclusive preview of the Carl F. Bucherer collection or to schedule an interview with the Carl F. Bucherer North American principles.

Leaving the beaten track, blazing your own trail to ultimately shape your own destiny is what the Carl F. Bucherer philosophy is all about, a watch for “those who go their own way.” Carl Friedrich Bucherer presented his first watch collection in 1919 and began a watch-making heritage, which continues to this day. Renowned for their meticulous attention to detail, uncompromising quality, high technological, aesthetic standards and distinctive designs, Carl F. Bucherer maintains a rich history and it is through these values that we are reminded that the good life is in reach. Richly imagined, the Carl F. Bucherer name is synonymous with an indelible portrait of confidence. It lives with those who take charge of their lives; independent people who trust their own instincts and enjoy every moment. With these strengths and values derived from the very fabric of the family business that has been handed down over three generations, Carl F. Bucherer remains the only genuine watch brand from the heart of Switzerland. With traditional designs that look toward the future, Carl F. Bucherer consistently provides the best Swiss movements, which are both technically refined and authentic.

Carl F. Bucherer: Stylish Swiss Timepieces Since 1919

Carl F. Bucherer watch collection is a stellar example of a contemporary interpretation of classic traditional design. Currently distributed in Asia, Europe, Russia and the Middle East, North America will now join these markets to compliment this truly global brand. The marketing, philosophy, vision and tradition of this independent luxury brand from Switzerland, the last one, will continue to reflect the original thinking of its founder, Carl F. Bucherer – “a watch for those who go their own way”.

The official launch took place in Switzerland at this year’s Baselworld 2004. Carl Friedrich Bucherer was a pioneer, an exceptional man and a passionate entrepreneur. In 1888, a time of worldwide upheaval, he opened his first watch and jewelry shop in Lucerne. In 1919, he took the plunge and created his first watch collection. This was an instant success and laid the foundations for a brand that is renowned to this day for its inimitable style and individuality, and one that has to this day remained a healthy and independent family business. Around the turn of the last century, the Belle Époque arrived in Switzerland and Lucerne. The city boomed and prosperity increased. People were filled with a new zest for life; were optimistic and had faith in the future. And among them was Carl F. Bucherer, welcoming people from all over the world into his shop. Their diversity and the openness of the city strongly influenced his life and his work and the name of Carl F. Bucherer has since become synonymous with the city of Lucerne.

The only producer of watches in the heart of Switzerland has developed into something truly special. Since then, all Carl F. Bucherer watches have had something in common - the passion, enthusiasm and meticulous attention to detail which go into every single watch made. The never-ending pursuit of perfection has never been abandoned. Today, the company is owned by Jörg G. Bucherer, the grandson of Carl Friedrich, and like his forebears, he attaches great importance to independence, continuity, energy and freedom. And in doing so, he creates distinctive watches which reflect and convey these values. In the true tradition of our founder, we make no compromise when it comes to the highest quality and the love of detail. To ensure that the only watch from the heart of Switzerland will remain unique in the future, too. For more information please visit www. carl-f-bucherer. com.

New eBook and Seminars Reveal How to Stop the Pain Associated with Poor Project Management and Accounting Systems

New eBook and Seminars Reveal How to Stop the Pain Associated with Poor Project Management and Accounting Systems

7 Procedures using integrated project management and accounting software are the keys to health and growth for project-driven companies.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) January 27, 2010

The newly released ebook, Stop the Pain: 7 Smart Project Management and Accounting Procedures that Work, contains a wealth of knowledge on how project-focused industries, whether they manage services alone or both services and materials, can safeguard cash flow, project performance, and profit margins through implementing seven specific procedures.

“Project-driven companies that are technologically challenged get bogged down managing their projects and struggle to make them profitable,” says co-author Michael Camp, Marketing Director at Synergy Business Solutions. “The 7 Procedures we recommend can take them to the next level and enable them to excel in functions they may find problematic, such as job costing, project bidding and budgeting, allocating resources, managing materials, and achieving profitability.”

The ebook, which is laid out in an easy-to-read format and full of images, is not based on theory but mined from years of practice the authors and their colleagues have had as solution providers, CPAs, CFOs, and IT directors. There is a story woven throughout the ebook about a real-life engineering firm that ultimately implemented the 7 Procedures and eliminated their project-accounting pain.

“The book is a must-read for those at a crossroads in their financial and project management,” says co-author Jered Cady, Executive Vice President of Synergy. “CFOs, CEOs, Controllers, IT Directors, and Project Managers, shouldn’t walk, but run to the section on common painful problems, and see if their company can relate. There are sound solutions to these typical project-accounting maladies and this ebook spells them out.”

“This second ebook is extremely practical and the perfect follow up to the prior ebook in the series published by Synergy Business Solutions,” said John Wheeler, Founder of ControllerAdvice, referring to 7 Secrets the Healthiest Project-driven Organizations Know That You May Not, and written by Camp. “The authors, with the Synergy expertise they draw from, are spot on with their recommendations.”

Synergy is also holding a series of lunch seminars on the subject of the ebook, which will teach attendees the 7 Procedures and demonstrate the solutions. These Stop the Pain seminars will be held from 12 pm to 1:30 pm in three cities: Bellevue, WA on Thursday, March 4, Mountain View, CA on Wednesday, March 11, and Irvine, CA, on Thursday, March 12. Learn more and register (http://www. synergybusiness. com/stop-pain-seminar).

Since the copyright is under a Creative Commons License, the authors permit free redistribution of the ebook provided it is passed along unchanged and in whole. To download the 7 Procedures complimentary ebook, visit the Download eBook (http://www. synergybusiness. com/stop-the-pain) page.

Man to Swims Handcuffed Across Hudson River

Man to Swims Handcuffed Across Hudson River

To fight against the epidemic of diabetes fitness trainer will swim handcuffed across the Hudson River

New York (PRWEB) September 23, 2005

Brian Friedman has challenged himself to swim handcuffed across the Hudson River to fight the epidemic of Diabetes.

Last year Friedman swam handcuffed from Alcatraz to San Francisco. He completed that swim in 54 minutes and 20 seconds. A world record!

This year he is attacking the Hudson and Potomac Rivers. All in handcuffs. He will swim from Weehawken Harbor NJ on Friday September 23, 2005 landing at 8am at Surfside3 Marina(www. surfside23.com) at Chelsea Piers(23rd Street and the Hudson River) www. chelseapiers. com.

The handcuffs symbolize how people with Diabetes feel shackled by the disease. "I want to show them that through a vigorous lifestyle of strenuous exercise and healthy diet anything is possible".

Friedman swims in memory of his grandfather who had Type 2 Diabetes and lost both his legs to the disease. Say Friedman, "I remember changing the shoes on my grandfather’s false legs and that memory motivates me as I swim handcuffed so that others may not suffer the same fate.” Friedman does not have the disease but has clients and relatives that suffer from Diabetes.

He chose the Hudson River for many reasons. In 1901 his grandfather arrived in New York at two years of age from Hungary. He left high school at age 15 to become a runner on Wall Street. In those days teenage boys had stock certificates chained to their bodies and ran from one brokerage firm to another. After that, exercise was not a part of his life, contributing to the diabetes he later contracted.

A little over a hundred years later Friedman returns to the Hudson to demonstrate that a healthy lifestyle is a choice, and that you can overcome any obstacle. Friedman remembers being the slowest swimmer in his class.

"I am not a world class athlete. I am a below average athlete. But through training and a positive attitude I can swim for miles handcuffed with no distress.”

Prevalence of total diabetes in the United States, all ages -- United States, 2002: 18.2 million people - 6.3% of the population - have diabetes. Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults 20-74 years old

Research studies in the United States and abroad have found that lifestyle changes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes among high-risk adults. In the Diabetes Prevention Program, a large prevention study of people at high risk for diabetes, the development of diabetes was reduced 58% over three (3) years.
