Pink Porches is an exciting new way to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer for nonprofits, government agencies, corporations and communities (pinkporches. com). In 2008, during the month of October, agencies and nonprofits have already signed up to participate and get Sassy so they can turn their lights, towns, communities, and businesses pink by putting these 25 Watt, low energy, pink Sassy Mood-lite light bulbs in window lamps and porch lights. Agencies are purchasing them and handing them out in communities for awareness tools, nonprofits are using them as fundraisers, and individuals are lighting their blocks to show support for friends.
Mrs. Connie Raisbeck, RN and Well Woman Director at the Stephenson County Health Department along with her staff approached the Mood-factory with the idea last year. The Mood-factory tested the program in a number of communities, with such success that many more groups and individuals have jumped on board simply by word of mouth and the excitement is quickly spreading. It is so thrilling to know that in October cities will be drenched in incredibly magical pink lights, symbolizing the boldness, courage, and sass of so many women and men that fight Breast Cancer.
Connie Raisbeck shares, "We loved it last year. It was new, different, and stood out as a unique way to reach people, not to mention our town was beautiful. It helped us raise money for our center, as through the program we were able to give 18 free mammograms to woman that otherwise would not have been able to get them due to financial constraints. We can not wait to do it again."
The Mood-factory is donating 5% of all 2008 Sassy sales to Public Health Foundation of Northwest Illinois, a public charity, and 5% of all 2008 Sassy sales to iFred, the International Foundation for Research and Education on Depression (iFred) (depression. org). iFred is a 501 (c)3 organization that helps shine a light on depression, a disease that can often co-occur with breast cancer. The Public Health Foundation of Northwest Illinois was the charity chosen by the women of Stephenson County Health Department, as a way to honor them for the wonderful program they have started for all.
