Dr Fred Blumenfeld DC Helps Patients To Cut Strokes Off Golf Game And Save Their Back

Dr. Fred Blumenfeld, D. C. and Dr. Albert Jerome, D. C. of Comprehensive Healthcare Systems help golfers improve their golf game this summer. Learn how to maintain a healthy back while having fun on the course.

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) May 9, 2006

Dr. Fred Blumenfeld, D. C. and Dr. Albert Jerome, D. C. of Comprehensive Healthcare Systems are helping golf lovers to stay on the green longer. "All too often I see golfers end up taking pain killers or having to stop playing all together, just because of back pain from golf. Recently chiropractic treatment has really caught on as an excellent way to alleviate those on-the-green pains," says Dr. Blumenfeld, D. C..

"The problems occur from all those repetitive golf swings. Since chiropractic is the science of the spine, we are in a good position to help golfers understand the correct way to take care of their bodies while still enjoying lots of golf," says Dr. Blumenfeld, D. C..

Professional golfers are well aware of the benefits that chiropractic care can provide. A recent study reported that up to 85 percent of injuries on the PGA Tour and Senior Tour relate to the spine. Between 70 to 75 percent of these golfers receive chiropractic care regularly. Amateur golfers can especially benefit from chiropractic care. There is approximately 25 to 30 million amateur golfers in America. Dr. Jerome, D. C. says, "It's our goal to educate golfers that chiropractic can really benefit them and keep them playing pain free."

Dr. Jerome, D. C. says, "Not only can chiropractors most effectively treat acute and chronic back injuries caused by golf, but can also help them prevent injuries. Some important things they should be doing are stretching before and after golfing, keeping hydrated, shortening your back swing, and using correct posture and stance."

Dr. Blumenfeld, D. C. and Dr. Jerome, D. C. invite any golfer who is interested in improving their game and saving their back to schedule a free consultation. "This way they can see how chiropractic might enhance their golf game." The office of Comprehensive Healthcare Systems is located at 4676 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417. They can be reached at 561-684-0710 or through their website at www. whiplashcare. com.

Healthy Fast Food Arrives in Sherman Oaks

Healthy Fast Food Arrives in Sherman Oaks

The Dressing Room is a new quick service restaurant, which utilizes a display kitchen to make salads in front of diners, while they watch. Guests can choose a salad from the menu or design their own and watch it created in front of their eyes.

Sherman Oaks, CA (PRWEB) July 2, 2006

Fast food took a healhty turn in Sherman Oaks this week with the opening of The Dressing Room. Owners Don Schaefer and Ronly Fergsuon wanted to open a new type of restaurant, something different, something that contributed to people’s lives instead of making people eat huge portions of unhealthy food.

So on June 17th they opened the first location of The Dressing Room. They use locally grown and harvested produce from Southern California. They only purchase from environmentally sensitive farmers who believe in cultivating the finest organic produce. They receive this amazing produce fresh daily, immediately after harvesting & directly from local farms.

Ronly believes there is a high demand for delicious and healthy salads, prepared quickly and exactly the way you want. "Eating healthy should be just as quick and easy as other fast food choices, and just as fun", she explained. "I believe that great food begins long before it’s served. It begins with how it is produced, where it is grown and how it is harvested". Their sensational salads come from the way they are prepared and presented, using only the best possible ingredients available.

So how does the restaurant work? Guests can choose either a classic, specialty or favorite salad form our menu, or they can choose to design their own salad: they provide 6 different types of greens, over 60 amazing toppings, 32 different and delicious dressings, and finally 16 high quality proteins, like grilled chicken or steak, seared ahi tuna, tofu, salmon, even chicken tenders. They chop the salad in front of the guest or they’ll even wrap it up in a gigantic sun-dried tomato wrap.

Located in Sherman Oaks, on Ventura Boulevard, they location couldn't be better, with lot's of foot traffic, and other great restaurants in the area, it's hard to ask for a better location. The address for the restaurant is 14622 Ventura Boulevard. Beautifully decorated and well lit, with jazz playing in the restaurant and on the patio, it's like eating in Beverly Hills.

For more information, or catering you can call the restaurant at (818) 788-4882.

C. H.E. F.® and MissionWise® Relocate to New Offices in Downtown Seattle's Historic Pioneer Square

C. H.E. F.® and MissionWise® Relocate to New Offices in Downtown Seattle's Historic Pioneer Square

Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C. H.E. F.®), and its MissionWise® division have moved into the historic Washington Shoe Building in Downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square district.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 9, 2008

Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C. H.E. F.®), and its MissionWise® division have announced their move to a new Seattle address. After many years in their Des Moines, Washington location, the organization has moved into loft-style offices in the historic Washington Shoe Building, which is located in Downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square district. C. H.E. F.'s new address is 159 South Jackson Street, Suite 510, Seattle, Washington, 98104.

"The move into our new office represents an exciting new chapter for C. H.E. F. and MissionWise that allows us to better meet the needs of our staff, and to more effectively and efficiently utilize our environmental resources as well as our own organizational resources," said Larry Clark, President and CEO of C. H.E. F. "Our new location takes into consideration the fact that we've become more virtual in our working approach, which results in the need for less physical office space. Coupled with the selection of a central office location in downtown Seattle that is easily accessible via mass transit, our staff will no longer need to drive to and from work on a regular basis."

In the months and weeks that preceded C. H.E. F.'s move to Pioneer Square, a designated moving team, comprised of a few staff members, determined which items from the old building would move to the new offices. Since much of the building's physical contents couldn't be moved due to space limitations, C. H.E. F. chose to donate much of it to a variety of nonprofit organizations across Washington State serving low-income, ethnically-diverse populations. The list of donated items included furniture, equipment, and supplies, all of which were given to community centers, after-school programs, pre-schools, early childhood learning centers, school districts, food banks, art programs for disadvantaged youth, and a school/housing organization for at-risk youth.

C. H.E. F. and MissionWise employ a full-time staff in two offices located in Seattle, Washington and Oakland, California. The organizations also employ consultants who work on a project basis in several locations across the United States, including Chicago and New York.

About MissionWise:

MissionWise® is the division of Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C. H.E. F.®) that helps health and human service organizations eliminate health inequities through training, mentoring, and consulting. As part of an organization with a long history of operating as a successful social enterprise, MissionWise offers its clients expertise in building capacity so they can become stronger, more sustainable, and better achieve their missions. Its diverse clients include foundations, grantees, and other health and human service organizations such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF), Treatment Research Institute (TRI), Denver Harbor Clinic, Collaborative to Advance Funding in Palliative Care (CAFPAC), In SHAPE Program of Monadnock Family Services, and Presidio YMCA, among others. For information about MissionWise, please visit www. missionwise. org or call 1.800.323.2433.

About Comprehensive Health Education Foundation:

Founded in 1974, Seattle-based Comprehensive Health Education Foundation (C. H.E. MPay Gateway Completes $6.75 Million Financing

MPay Gateway Completes $6.75 Million Financing

MPay Gateway, a Minneapolis, MN company specializing in point of care patient payments, announced today the closing of $6.75 million in venture capital financing. The financing round, led by new investor GRP Partners, also includes Appian Ventures and other current investors. In connection with the financing, Brian J. McLoughlin, a Partner at GRP Partners, will join the mPay Gateway Board of Directors.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) September 4, 2008

mPay Gateway, a Minneapolis, MN company specializing in point of care patient payments, announced today the closing of $6.75 million in venture capital financing. The financing round, led by new investor GRP Partners, also includes Appian Ventures and other current investors. In connection with the financing, Brian J. McLoughlin, a Partner at GRP Partners, will join the mPay Gateway Board of Directors.

MPay Gateway delivers web-based software that facilitates point of care electronic patient payments to health care providers. The company's unique approach enables health care providers to process patient payments while the patient is still at their facility, thus reducing bad debt exposure and the need for post-visit billing and collection.

"As employers and insurance companies shift more financial responsibility to patients, physicians are quickly realizing that they do not have the tools or procedures in place to effectively collect money from patients," said McLoughlin. "The mPay Gateway service is the most elegant, effective and patient-friendly solution we have seen in the market."

"In the past six months, we have launched our product, retained over 20 national distribution partners and attracted new customers," said Brian K. Beutner, mPay Gateway's chief executive officer. "This capital will allow us to continue to grow our sales and marketing efforts and expand our product capabilities."

The average physician practice in the US today writes off fifty cents of every dollar billed to patients after the patient leaves the office. This is in a large part due to today's delayed and confusing collection process. mPay Gateway's product simplifies the patient-provider encounter and enables the health care provider to collect from the patient when the services are rendered.

MPay Gateway provides an Internet-based Point of Service card swipe terminal for accepting credit and debit cards for patient co-payments and other known charges. Additionally it allows the provider to run an authorization amount based on a patient liability estimate produced off of the system. The service can be used stand alone or fully integrated with a clinic or hospital practice management system. Much like the rental car and hotel environment, where the customer's card is not charged until after the customer leaves, the mPay Gateway system allows the provider to hold the authorization until the provider has a final remittance advice from the third-party payer.

"We are excited to bring GRP Partners into mPay Gateway. Its experience with financial services companies that use technology to bring a new and unique service to customers will help mPay Gateway continue to address unmet financial service needs of health care providers," said Beutner.

About mPay Gateway

MPay Gateway develops financial technology products and services to support health care's complex and unique payment environment. mPay Gateway empowers health care providers with a single source payment solution that enables collections from patients, regardless of the patient's third party payer affiliation. For more information please visit www. mpaygateway. com.

Why So Shy? Study Shows What Females of the Facebook Generation Are Not Sharing in the OB/GYN Office that Could Affect Their Health

Why So Shy? Study Shows What Females of the Facebook Generation Are Not Sharing in the OB/GYN Office that Could Affect Their Health

The Communications Gap Between the "TMI" Generation and Their Most Important Health Providers Revealed In a Survey Conducted by Opinion Research Corporation

Whitehouse Station, NJ (PRWEB) September 30, 2010

Millennials and Gen Xers can be eloquent in 140 characters or less, but in the doctor's office women of this generation edit themselves about sexual health information that can guide recommendations for everything from cervical cancer screening to contraception. In a survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation, less than one in four women between ages 18 and 34 with a regular health care provider has initiated a conversation about her sexual health, and four in ten weren't too comfortable about it.

This counterintuitive behavior, from the generation that has led society into a new world of personal disclosure and information sharing and will continue to do so using social networks as they age, spurred Merck to develop Healthy Communication, a resource-rich online kiosk with practical information about initiating productive discussions about sexual health during annual women's health exams, which can be found on iVillage. com/health.

Roshini Raj, MD, the noted women's health expert and co-author of the new book What the Yuck?: The Freaky & Fabulous Truth About Your Body, says this communications gap may be affecting women's health. Women who withhold information due to shyness or discomfort may end up mismatched by their doctors with birth control or other reproductive health information that doesn't suit their lifestyles.

"An average gynecological annual exam lasts just 15 minutes, so women need to overcome their reticence and maximize that time," said Dr. Raj. "Sharing sexual lifestyle information is not comfortable for many women and the resources at www. iVillage. com/health (http://www. iVillage. com/health) can help make it easier to have those conversations."

Resources on the site include Digital Native-appropriate tools like regular articles by Dr. Raj and interactive tools to improve the quality of health conversations in the doctor's office.

Survey findings:

Only 13 percent of women who have used birth control or are considering birth control share details of their sexual health with their health care provider;  Less-than one-third of women are extremely satisfied with the discussions they have with health care providers during their visits, as well as their overall relationship with their health care provider;  Among women who had used or considered using birth control, almost one out of four report negative feelings associated with discussing sexual health with their health care provider including embarrassment, unease and bashfulness.

"We know that women often turn to the Web when they have health questions that concern themselves and their families," said Jennifer Barrett, iVillage Health Editor. "iVillage Health was developed as a resource to empower women to become more informed and prepared patients."

About the survey

The Healthy Communication survey identified the type of relationship women 18 to 34 years of age have with their health care provider and the quality of their experiences with birth control. A total of 370 women between the ages of 18 and 34 participated in the online survey, which aimed to identify the type of relationship women have with their health care provider.

The survey was commissioned in 2009 by Opinion Research Corporation, on behalf of Schering Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. Respondents were from online panel sources in the United States.

Easy to Use Wi-Fi Network Management System Scales to Serve North America’s Largest Wi-Fi Networks

Easy to Use Wi-Fi Network Management System Scales to Serve North America’s Largest Wi-Fi Networks

New BelView 4 NMS from BelAir Networks goes live in Long Island, NY, Minneapolis, MN and Riverside, CA, and hundreds of Wi-Fi networks worldwide

Kanata, Ontario (Vocus) May 27, 2009

The persistent popularity and growing number of Wi-Fi enabled devices and applications is driving both the need and the opportunity for large scale and multi-location Wi-Fi networks (http://www. belairnetworks. com), comprising thousands of Wi-Fi access points (AP). To simplify the management of these vast, geographically dispersed networks, BelAir Networks, the market leader in service provider WLAN, has introduced a new generation of Wi-Fi network (http://www. belairnetworks. com) management. Supporting up to 20,000 wireless APs in a single network, the user friendly and feature rich BelView 4 Network Management System (NMS) is a comprehensive software package that leverages the latest GIS-based mapping and GPS information to facilitate the set-up and management of Wi-Fi networks of all sizes.

The widescale adoption of Wi-Fi enabled devices, including smartphones, cameras, games and netbooks, has led to greater consumer expectations of Wi-Fi availability and created opportunities for cable operators and telecom servicer providers to:

Promote Wi-Fi access as a mobile broadband complement to their residential broadband business Offload data traffic from overloaded 2G and 3G networks onto their Wi-Fi networks Deliver managed Wi-Fi services to high value verticals including retail, education, healthcare, hospitality, mass transit and other businesses where customers, as well as employees, benefit from Wi-Fi access and WLAN applications

“With Wi-Fi networks (http://www. belairnetworks. com) growing in number, size and types of deployments, ease of management is critical to operational efficiency, so we designed BelView 4 NMS to make it as easy for our service provider customers to manage 20,000 AP’s as it is to manage one,” said Dave Park, VP, Product Marketing, BelAir Networks. “This isn’t just about managing RF (radio frequency), it’s about managing large, carrier-grade Wi-Fi networks that integrate with the service provider’s back office and their wireline network infrastructure – BelView 4 NMS gives service providers the visibility and functionality they need to cost-effectively integrate Wi-Fi into their current business.”

In addition to providing network wide visibility and administrative tools for nodes, links, alarms, channel planning, performance data, and software and tunnel audits, among other features, BelView 4 NMS provides at a glance details of connected Wi-Fi devices including auto-identification of manufacturer. For example, in one deployment, Apple® computers and devices commonly account for more than 70% of Wi-Fi connections to the network at any given time. This visibility is invaluable for both marketing and network management purposes.

For full details on BelView NMS 4 features and benefits, check out the data sheet (http://www. belairnetworks. com/resources/pdfs/BelView_Data_BDMA09920-A02.pdf) or tune into this webcast (http://www. belairnetworks. com/webcasts/signup. cfm? intWebCastID=60&intDate=1). Announcing the Only Mattress Custom-Designed to Each Buyer’s Body and Sleep Profile

Announcing the Only Mattress Custom-Designed to Each Buyer’s Body and Sleep Profile

Complete a FREE Body Profiler™ online and we’ll design a custom latex mattress guaranteed to deliver the best nights’ sleep possible. Unlike sleep number, tempur or memory foam beds, the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress™ is built according to each sleeper’s height, weight and sleep characteristics, and shipped anywhere in the U. S. For a limited time, get 2 FREE Pillows with each mattress.

Shelton, CT (PRWEB) February 20, 2010

Custom Latex Sleep Products, a retailer of customized latex mattresses, announces that, for the first time ever, a mattress can be constructed based on each user’s individual Body Profile to eliminate tossing and turning. For King and Queen mattresses, each side of the mattress can be custom-designed with different densities.

Relief from aches and pains = better sleep

In a conventional mattress, high pressure areas at contact points between the body and sleep surface (typically at the head, shoulders, hips and feet) shut off blood flow which interrupts sleep. A latex mattress reduces pressure points, helps bring oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and facilitates optimal spinal alignment for a more refreshing, restful nights’ sleep.

“When latex mattresses’ firmness and support are customized according to each user’s Body Profiler, (http://www. trulyadjustable. com/index. php/Custom-Latex-Sleep-Products-CT/Mattresses-Pillows-Toppers-Organic-Covers/body-profiler. html) the benefits of latex increase exponentially. I’ve coined the term Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress™ to describe these unique advantages,” said Bob, Zukowski, owner, Custom Latex Sleep Products.

“With the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress, users can enjoy more stage 4 sleep. That’s when the body replenishes muscles, strengthens bones, and maintains a healthy immune system, so you awaken feeling rejuvenated,” Zukowski added.

Change the feel today, or 10 years from now

Within the first 90 days of purchasing the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress, buyers can modify the feel by simply unzipping the mattress cover and removing the top layer of foam (topper) and exchanging it for a different density at no charge.

When conventional bed owners need a new mattress, typically after 10 years, buyers of the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress can simply purchase a new topper rather than a whole new bed. The Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress is the only mattress that’s both customizable and adjustable.

Unsurpassed comfort and superior support

“Waking up tired? Back pain? Tingling hands or legs? The Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress is the solution,” says Zukowski.

That’s because the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress naturally conforms to body contours for optimal orthopedic support. In fact, its unique pinhole design and open cell structure feels like sleeping on air.

Latex mattresses feel luxurious and have a superior comfort life, maintaining their showroom feel for years. Thanks to their exceptional durability, they will not break down or take body impressions, and never require flipping or turning.

Naturally hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant, the Truly Adjustable Latex Mattress is inherently antimicrobial, inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew, and produced using an environmentally friendly water-based process.

For a Free evaluation complete our unique Body Profiler (http://www. trulyadjustable. com/index. php/Custom-Latex-Sleep-Products-CT/Mattresses-Pillows-Toppers-Organic-Covers/body-profiler. html)

Outstanding Cedar Rapids Teen Named Boys & Girls Clubsof America's National Youth of the Year

Outstanding Cedar Rapids Teen Named Boys & Girls Clubsof America's National Youth of the Year

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) today announced that Stacey Walker, a five-year member of the Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids, has been named 2006-07 National Youth of the Year.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) September 22, 2006

Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) today announced that Stacey Walker, a five-year member of the Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids, has been named 2006-07 National Youth of the Year.

In addition to the title, Walker, who was honored at a Congressional Breakfast held today in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, will receive a $15,000 scholarship from the Reader’s Digest Foundation and the opportunity to meet the President of the United States.

The Youth of the Year program, which has been nationally sponsored by the Reader’s Digest Foundation since 1947, recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club; academic excellence; and personal challenges and obstacles overcome.

“I’m very proud of the accomplishments of Stacey and all the nominees, “said Roxanne Spillett, president, BGCA. “We’ve now selected 60 National Youths of the Year thanks to the Reader’s Digest Foundation, and as we move into our next century of service, I’m looking forward to seeing the great results the Youth of the Year program will continue to deliver.”

In order to compete for this prestigious national honor, Walker, as well as the four finalists garnered the Youth of the Year title at their respective local, state and regional levels. The other finalists were Kelly Barefield (Seattle, Wash.), Alyse Eady (Fort Smith, Ark.), Montorie Lee (Camilla, Ga.) and David Shelly (Pittsburgh). The Reader’s Digest Foundation awarded each state finalist a $1,000 college scholarship and each regional finalist a $10,000 college scholarship.

Walker’s loss of his mother at the age of 4 was definitely a tragedy, but the wisdom and strength of his grandmother carried him through, shaping him into a stellar young man.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cedar Rapids also provided a means for Walker to excel. He started out as a member, but quickly transitioned into a mentor, role model and staff member. Through Passport to Manhood, a program that teaches young boys how to become responsible young men, he helped others escape their dim surroundings in hopes of pursuing a brighter future.

In addition to being an avid football player at his alma mater, Washington High School, Walker excelled in academics and was very active in student government and the debate team. He was presented with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award and selected as member of the National Council on Youth Leadership.

Moreover, Walker used his athletic talents to help those in his community by coaching and starting the Student Athlete Mentoring program, in which he and other athletes mentored at-risk youth in the areas of sportsmanship, academics and everyday life.

Walker is a freshman at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he is studying business law and communications.

“The Reader’s Digest Foundation has been the proud sponsor of the Youth of the Year program since 1947,” said Susan Fraysse Russ, executive director, Reader’s Digest Foundation. “We are thrilled that we can honor amazing teens, like Stacey, for their dedication to their families, Club and community, and help them achieve their academic and career goals.”

As the founding sponsor of the Youth of the Year program, the Reader’s Digest Foundation has given nearly $8 million to BGCA and 60 teens have been selected as National Youth of the Year.

Lloydspharmacy Reports Swine Flu Could Trigger Boom in Remote Diagnosis

Lloydspharmacy Reports Swine Flu Could Trigger Boom in Remote Diagnosis

Lloydspharmacy has put virtual GPs in 300 pharmacies, following reports that swine flu could trigger a boom in remote diagnosis.

London, UK (PRWEB) September 3, 2009

Lloydspharmacy has revealed a new report that suggests the government's use of the internet and call centres to deal with the swine flu pandemic could pave the way for a rapid growth in remote diagnosis and prescriptions. This was just one of the conclusions found in the report by the Future Foundation*.

Judith Kleine Holthause, the report's lead author, said:"Despite its clinical shortcomings, the use of the internet and call centres for diagnosing swine flu (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/Tamiflu/Tamiflu (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/Tamiflu/Tamiflu)) and distributing medication demonstrates that remote diagnosis can be an efficient way of dealing with certain conditions."

The Future Foundation forecasts that 37% of people will be using the web for medical information by 2020 (up from 14% in 2009) and that a variety of social and economic factors will lead to a substantial market for online diagnosis and prescriptions in the future.

The report, commissioned by Lloydspharmacy (http://www. lloydspharmacy. com/ (http://www. lloydspharmacy. com/)), coincides with the roll-out of 'virtual GPs' into 300 of the chain's pharmacies. Lloydspharmacy has pioneered online diagnosis and prescription.

Now the chain has innovated again by allowing customers to walk into a pharmacy, consult with a doctor from a computer terminal and walk out with their prescriptions a few minutes later.

Andy Murdock, pharmacy relations and governance director of Lloydspharmacy, said: "The face to face consultation will remain at the heart of primary care, but for an increasing array of conditions, remote services provide a viable alternative.

"Right now these include lifestyle conditions such as impotence (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/impotence-treatment/Buy-Viagra-Cialis-Levitra-online (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/impotence-treatment/Buy-Viagra-Cialis-Levitra-online)) and hair loss, embarrassing conditions such as STIs, contraception (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/oral-contraception (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/service/oral-contraception)) and certain minor ailments such as cystitis. But the list could expand considerably in the future."

However the report's authors warn that regulation will be critical if privately run diagnosis and prescription services are to grow. At present only one online doctor (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/ (http://onlinedoctor. lloydspharmacy. com/)) service is registered with the Care Quality Commission explicitly to manage patients remotely. That service, Dr Thom, also provides the GP component of the Lloydspharmacy service.

There is no question that consumers are receptive to the concept. Forty eight per cent of respondents to a poll conducted for the Future Foundation said they were interested in online diagnosis and 56% said they were interested in online prescriptions.

Holthaus added: "In certain areas consumers welcome regulation. Concerns about counterfeit medicines, bogus doctors and commercial motivations will inevitably act as a brake on consumer confidence in remote diagnosis services. We believe that more regulation, monitoring and control will be crucial to the further development of this market.

"There are strong arguments for why the NHS might embrace remote diagnosis as a complementary method to ensure sufficient delivery of satisfactory health care in the future. If regulated and monitored appropriately remote diagnoses and prescriptions could benefit the healthcare system in similar ways as remote services have helped the banking system."

The Lloydspharmacy Online Doctor service is run in conjunction with online health experts Dr Thom, who adhere to the General Medical Council's guidelines on remote prescribing. Patients log on for an online questionnaire-based consultation with a GP. If clinically appropriate the GP writes a prescription and the treatment is dispensed by post for next day delivery.

Bamboo Zoo is a new children's book and multimedia series aimed at teaching kids and parents all about healthy living. The book and CD-Rom feature Lester Panda and his friends, and teach lessons about healthy food, exercise, and self-esteem.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) May 7, 2006

Bamboo Zoo, LLC is a new company based in Denver, Colorado, whose focus is to teach children ages 5 to 10 about health and wellness in a fun and simple way. Bamboo Zoo’s mission is to teach children and their parents the importance of taking care of their health and the health of the planet. Specializing in producing products for children, such as books and CD-ROMS, which are both FUN and educational, Bamboo Zoo is ideal for schools, libraries, medical offices and much more.

The first multi-media package called Bamboo Zoo: Meet Lester Panda and his Friends includes an illustrated children’s book, a companion coloring book, and an interactive CD ROM. These Bamboo Zoo products premiered in January 2006 and are now available for purchase. Read more about their mission and products on their website, www. bamboo-zoo. com.

According to the CDC, 30.3 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese. This is also the first generation whose lifespan is actually shorter then the previous generation. Our children’s health has become an American crisis. As a result of eating too many processed foods, sedentary lifestyles, and not engaging in enough physical activity, diseases that used to take 60 years to develop are now showing up in 13, 14, and 15 year olds.

Bamboo Zoo was created to help reverse this crisis. Bamboo Zoo consists of five cartoon characters: Lester Panda, Harrison Dog, Belinda Cat, Dara Turtle and Steven Eagle. Each character represents a component of wellness with Lester Panda symbolizing the child (the reader) who learns and applies the lessons. Every new book will highlight a different wellness issue and how to deal with that issue. Children will learn that making healthy choices is not only fun but also rewarding.

MayoClinic. com Offers Tips for Coping with Aches and Pains

MayoClinic. com Offers Tips for Coping with Aches and Pains

Contrary to popular belief, aches and pains are not a typical part of aging. Age alone does not mean a person automatically experiences aches and pains. Pain can be a red flag that points to a disease, illness or injury. Any pain that interferes with the activities of daily life is worthy of attention.

Rochester, Minn. (PRWEB) October 30, 2008

Contrary to popular belief, aches and pains are not a typical part of aging. Age alone does not mean a person automatically experiences aches and pains. Pain can be a red flag that points to a disease, illness or injury. Any pain that interferes with the activities of daily life is worthy of attention.

MayoClinic. com highlights a number of conditions that can cause major aches and pains as a person ages, and offers information on diagnosis, treatment, self-care and coping.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/osteoarthritis/DS00019), sometimes called degenerative joint disease or osteoarthrosis, is the most common form of arthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs when cartilage in joints wears down over time.

Osteoarthritis can affect any joint in the body, though it most commonly affects joints in the hands, hips, knees and spine. Typically, just one joint is affected, though in some cases, such as finger arthritis, several joints can be involved.

Osteoarthritis gradually worsens with time, and no cure exists. But treatments can relieve pain and help an individual remain active. Taking steps to actively manage osteoarthritis may help individuals control osteoarthritis pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis (http://www. mayoclinic. com/health/rheumatoid-arthritis/DS00020) is an inflammatory form of the disease that causes joint pain and damage. Rheumatoid arthritis attacks the lining of the joints (synovium) causing swelling that can result in aching, throbbing and eventually deformity. Sometimes rheumatoid arthritis symptoms make even the simplest activities -- such as opening a jar or taking a walk -- difficult.

Rheumatoid arthritis is two to three times more common in women than men and generally occurs between the ages of 40 and 60. The disease also can affect young children and older adults.

Psoriatic arthritis

Psoriatic arthritis (http://mayoclinic. com/health/psoriatic-arthritis/DS00476) is an inflammatory condition that affects the joints of children and adults who have psoriasis. A skin condition, psoriasis causes patches of thick, red skin to form on certain areas of the body. Not everyone with psoriasis develops psoriatic arthritis, but everyone with psoriatic arthritis has psoriasis.

Most people develop signs of psoriasis first and are later diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. Joint pain in people with psoriatic arthritis can range from mild to severe. Signs and symptoms often change as the disease continues.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (http://mayoclinic. com/health/fibromyalgia/DS00079) is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points -- places on the body where even slight pressure causes pain. Fibromyalgia is more common in women than men. Previously, the condition was known by names such as fibrositis, chronic muscle pain syndrome, psychogenic rheumatism and tension myalgias.

Although the intensity of symptoms may vary, they'll probably never disappear completely. Perhaps reassuring to know, however, is that fibromyalgia isn't progressive or life-threatening.

Coping

Coping with aches and pains is a constant challenge. Individuals should try to learn as much about their conditions from health care providers, support groups and health associations.

For more information about these conditions and how to cope, visit www. MayoClinic. com.

Research And Markets: Health Trends And An Older World Population Lead To Increases In Vitamin-Fortified And Functional Soft Drinks

Research And Markets: Health Trends And An Older World Population Lead To Increases In Vitamin-Fortified And Functional Soft Drinks

Research and Markets (researchandmarkets. com/reports/c11307) has announced the addition of The Global Market For Functional Soft Drinks - Forecasts To 2008 to their offering.

(PRWEB) December 21, 2004

The world's population is growing older and the accompanying ailments and frailties associated with age are generating a demand for diet-based solutions - although these solutions still need to meet consumers' uncompromising desire for convenience and taste. The trend for improving health through diet is gaining popularity, giving modern meaning to the phrase 'you are what you eat'. Examples of this trend can be seen from the UK government five-a-day initiative, to vitamin-fortified drinks or functional products that claim specific health benefits.

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c11307 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c11307)) has announced the addition of The Global Market For Functional Soft Drinks - Forecasts To 2008 to their offering.

In relation to functional soft drinks, the trend in health awareness has contributed to a recent slowdown in carbonates sales, focussing consumer attention to other sectors. This means that growth opportunities over the next five years are more likely to be found in alternatives to carbonates that are perceived as healthy, including the range of functional soft drinks and water.

This report examines the key global markets for functional soft drinks, which are led by Japan. Sales in China, although not nearly as developed as the Japanese market, are examined in this report as the Chinese market represents significant potential, not least due to its population size. In Europe, the UK and France are examined as they represent two functional soft drinks markets at opposite ends of the development spectrum; while the UK market is developed and growing, the French market is fledgling and currently stifled by regulatory issues. A similar situation has arisen stateside, with the US market for functional drinks being the most developed in the Americas, while the growth in the Canadian market is again limited by current legislation and the negative consumer feeling surrounding the regulated sectors.

In summary, the major markets include:

Canada

China

France

Japan

UK

US

No other countries make significant contributions to the functional foods market via fortified drinks. Australia provides the only other quantifiable market, reportedly selling less than five million litres a year with a value of under AUS$30m (£10.7 million) in 2002.

Chapter 2 discusses the current state of the market globally. Chapter 3 then studies each region, highlighting the key trends in the major markets including Europe, North America and the Far East. Chapter 4 provides sales figures and brand share data, followed by market forecasts to 2008. This report goes on to give you a detailed techincal review and concludes with a chapter on manufacturers. This section outlines the main functional brands operating in the markets under review, as well as giving details of current company activity in the functional arena.

The leading manufacturers covered in this report include:

Europe

Britvic - Red Devil

Coca-Cola - Burn

GlaxoSmithkline - Lucozade

Innocent

Lipovitan

Red Bull

Yakult UK

North America

Coca-Cola

PepsiCo

Pacific Health Laboratories

Rockstar Energy Drink

Far East

Asahi Soft Drinks

Calpis Co

Coca-Cola (Japan) Co Ltd

DyDo Drinco Inc.

Ito En Co Ltd

Kirin Beverage Corp

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co Ltd

Suntory Ltd
