Morgan and Morgan Provides Consumer Alert Center with Information about Dangerous Products

Morgan and Morgan is pleased to provide a Consumer Alert Center with information about defective products, dangerous drugs, and unfair business practices. With this resource, visitors to ForThePeople. com can stay up to date on the latest recalls and product safety warnings.

Warren, NJ (PRWEB) March 18, 2010

Morgan and Morgan (http://www. forthepeople. com/) is dedicated to protecting the rights of consumers who have been injured by dangerous and defective products. In order to help consumers stay informed about the latest recalls, product safety announcements, and health risks, the firm has created an online Consumer Alert Center. Information about unethical business practices is also available in the Consumer Alert Center in order to educate consumers about companies that may attempt to take advantage of their customers.

Despite the best efforts of consumer protection agencies such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), potentially dangerous products occasionally reach the marketplace and cause harm to individuals. In some cases, the injury caused by a dangerous product may be minor and temporary (such as an upset stomach due to a mild case of food poisoning). However, more serious side effects may result in permanent disabilities or even death. For example, Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella birth control pills have been linked to life-threatening conditions such as heart attack, stroke, and blood clots.

The Morgan and Morgan (http://www. forthepeople. com/) Consumer Alert Center features information on over 25 topics and is regularly updated with the latest news and updates. Site visitors can learn about the recent Toyota recall, defective Chinese drywall, health risks that have been linked to denture cream use, and more. When consumers are aware of and informed about dangerous and defective products, they are better able to protect themselves and their families from harm.

To access the Morgan and Morgan Consumer Alert Center, visit ForThePeople. com and click on the Consumer Alerts heading (located below the contact form). Site visitors who are looking for information about a specific product can select the topic they are interested in from the list.

If you or a loved one has been harmed by a dangerous or defective product, you may be entitled to financial compensation. Complete the Free Case Evaluation form with the details of your claim to have it reviewed by Morgan and Morgan (http://www. forthepeople. com/) at no cost. The consumer protection attorneys at the firm can advise you about your legal rights and options, and will fight to ensure that you get the justice you deserve.

About Morgan and Morgan:

Over 450 not-for-profit organizations applied to CyberAlert for the PR Grants, an increase of nearly 40% from the previous highest year. "The increase in applications may reflect the greater recognition among non-profit organizations of the value and benefit of utilizing media monitoring services and we are pleased to be able to increase the number of grants awarded in response to the increase in applications," stated William J. Comcowich, president and CEO of CyberAlert.

The CyberAlert selection process favored national and international organizations with innovative services that benefit the young, the troubled and abused, the environment, and human rights. It also favored organizations with plans to utilize the monitoring service and resulting news clips in innovative ways. This year, four themes emerged: children's learning, violence prevention, the environment, and health promotion.

The Alliance for Consumer Education (www. inhalant. org) was among the 2006 PR grant recipients that made innovative use of the CyberAlert news clipping service. "The daily summary that arrived in our in-box each morning alerted us to cases relevant to our key program, inhalant abuse prevention," said Colleen Creighton, Director of Foundation Programs. "We were then able to immediately get educational and preventative materials out to individuals and groups in the affected community. Thanks to the CyberAlert service, we were able to equip thousands of parents with the materials needed to discuss the issue of inhalant abuse with their children and hopefully prevent those communities from suffering a tragic loss."

In announcing the award recipients, William J. Comcowich, president and CEO of CyberAlert stated: "As I reviewed the grant applications, I was inspired by the amazing work being done by not-for-profit organizations and their volunteers. We're pleased that CyberAlert can effectively help worthy not-for-profit organizations and give back to the PR community that has helped us become a leading worldwide media monitoring company. Hopefully, we'll be able to continue the PR grants program for many years to come."

Founded in 1999, CyberAlert is a worldwide press clipping, media monitoring and tv broadcast news monitoring service (www. cyberalert. com) that monitors over 25,000 online news sources each day in 20+ languages. CyberAlert also monitors online consumer discussion in Web message boards, UseNet news groups and Web logs (blogs) for consumer insight about companies, products, key issues and trends. Clients specify their key words and CyberAlert delivers via daily e-mail (7/365) all new clips found in online media during the previous 24 hours.

A list of previous PR Grant Recipients (www. cyberalert. com/prgrants. html (http://www. cyberalert. com/prgrants. html)) is available on the CyberAlert Website.

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Announces 2007 Winners of the Texas Environmental Excellence Award

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Announces 2007 Winners of the Texas Environmental Excellence Award

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) today announced the 2007 winners of the 15th annual Texas Environmental Excellence Awards. The awards are given to 12 innovative projects across the state that demonstrate positive effects on air, water, and land resources.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) May 2, 2007

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) today announced the 2007 winners of the 15th annual Texas Environmental Excellence Awards. The awards are given to 12 innovative projects across the state that demonstrate positive effects on air, water, and land resources.

Among this year's award recipients are a wetlands educational program that has acted as a classroom for more than 28,000 Texans; a community tool shed program that has removed more than 10 tons of trash and illegally dumped debris from El Paso; and a major company whose more than 140 pollution prevention projects have removed 398 tons of air pollution, 5,823 tons of solid/hazardous waste, and substantially reduced the plant's energy consumption.

This year marks the first presentation of the Gregg A. Cooke Memorial Award for Exceptional Environmental Excellence, created to honor individuals who display passion, innovation, and persistence for protecting the environment. Gregg Cooke, a former regional administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency in Dallas, was known for his tireless and innovative efforts to make Texas a healthier place to live.

Cooke passed away in September 2006 at the age of 51.

Recommended by a Blue Ribbon Committee of environmental experts from public and private industry, the awards honor individuals, businesses, and organizations that have created successful programs that conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and prevent pollution. Created by the Texas Legislature in 1993, the awards program reflects the goals of the TCEQ itself: to protect Texas' human and natural resources and ensure clean air, clean water, and the safe management of waste.

"Today we recognize the initiative of these dozen recipients who have answered the call of duty to protect and preserve our natural resources," said Kathleen Harnett White, TCEQ Chairman. "They stand as exemplary stewards of our state's natural resources, habitats, and environmental quality."

"We applaud the Texans and our Texas companies and civic groups," said TCEQ Commissioner Larry R. Soward. "Their innovative approaches to environmental stewardship serve as an inspiration beyond our borders."

"These projects reflect a tremendous respect for both Texas and for our environment," said TCEQ Commissioner H. S. Buddy Garcia. "We are proud to honor these world class standard bearers."

The commissioners of the TCEQ will present the awards at the annual awards banquet on Wednesday May 2, 2007, at the Austin Convention Center as part of the TCEQ Environmental Trade Fair and Conference.

Following are brief profiles of the 2007 Texas Environmental Excellence Award winners. For more information about this year's winners and finalists, as well as to submit an application for next year's awards, visit www. teea. org.

2007 Texas Environmental Excellence Award Winners

BROWNWOOD

3M Company (Category: Large Business/Technical)

Since 2001, the 3M Brownwood plant employees have established almost 140 new projects, more than any other facility in the entire 3M Company. These projects have eliminated 398 tons of air pollution and 5,823 tons of solid/hazardous waste. The company has also reduced energy consumption by 150,000 MM BTUs with an associated savings of $16.3 million despite production growing steadily by almost 10 percent a year. These important achievements reflect the long tradition of environmental stewardship at the 3M Brownwood plant. The plant has been ISO 14001 EMS certified since 2000, is a charter member of the TCEQ CLEAN TEXAS Program, and is in the EPA's National Performance Track Program.

CORPUS CHRISTI

The Gulf of Mexico Foundation (Category: Youth)

In 2000, the Gulf of Mexico Foundation launched the Science & Spanish Club Network to help students obtain science-based information about the Gulf of Mexico and regional ecology. This bilingual project has expanded to students in coastal zone communities from El Campo to Brownsville in Texas, to Matamoros and Tampico in Tamaulipas, Mexico. Clubs average 15-25 members who meet weekly and after school to participate in beach cleanups, explore their watershed and estuaries on field trips, and have near-shore experiences on their rivers, bays, and Gulf waters. Children are not charged to join a club, a factor that contributes to attracting a broad range of youth.

DENTON

Dan Fette Builders Inc. (Category: Small Business)

Dan Fette's homes in the new Nevada Court subdivision are priced at almost 40 percent less than the city's average for single-family new home construction, and they all exceed the federal Energy Star criteria. Codeveloped in partnership with the Denton Affordable Housing Corporation (DAHC), a nonprofit dedicated to sustainable housing, the average energy bill for heating and cooling a 1,340 square foot house may be reduced to about $50 per month at current prices. This low energy bill is due to the use of a broad range of energy conservation attributes, ranging from light-colored shingles and radiant barrier sheathing to hydronic home heating systems to hot water on-demand systems, low flow toilets and showerheads, and xeriscaping. Finally, each home is positioned at an angle that decreases sunlight exposure during the summer and increases sunlight during the winter. As a result, DAHC believes residents will consume less than half the electricity, natural gas, and water typically used by households in similar-sized, conventionally built homes.

Leak Surveys Inc. (Category: Innovative Technology)

David Furry developed a groundbreaking new procedure to detect leaking gas pipes that has led to a change in the way the world monitors emissions. Prior to the invention of Furry's Hawk Leak Detection System, the most effective way to find leaks was to walk over an entire system's pipes. Furry's new monitoring device, the Hawk Leak Detection System, uses a cryogenically cooled infrared camera that shows leaking gas in real time. By flying over pipelines with the system, workers can quickly discover leaks. The system is also used to detect volatile organic compound (VOC) leaks. This success has led businesses across the United States, including the TCEQ, as well as several countries to purchase the Hawk System. The EPA has even launched its own study on the effectiveness of Hawk technology, and this year will facilitate the use of optical imaging by the regulated community.

EL PASO

Center for Environmental Resource Management (Category: Special Award)

In 2004 the Center for Environmental Resource Management at UT-El Paso led the Healthy Home Environments for the Paso del Norte (HHE) project to make life safer for thousands of low-income people living in unincorporated subdivisions with little or no infrastructure in El Paso, Sunland Park, New Mexico, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. This multipartner effort led to in-home training for 3,700 families and the distribution of 25,000 educational materials about water disinfection, the use of waterless toilets, appropriate solid waste disposal, and how to use less-toxic alternatives for household cleaning and insect control. Two hundred residents and community volunteers recently collected over 30 tons of trash in cleanup events. Funding for HHE is provided by UT El Paso, the Paso del Norte Health Foundation, and Johnson & Johnson.

Keep El Paso Beautiful (KEPB) (Category: Civic/Nonprofit)

By setting up 30 public tool sheds across El Paso, the KEPB program has empowered an entire community. The sheds are open to the public and free of charge, and are stocked with rakes, shovels, push brooms, trash bags, gloves, gardening tools, grab-alls, push mowers, and dry/wet vacuums--all the necessary items needed for a cleanup or beautification project. The city estimates each shed contributes annually to the removal of 10 tons of trash and illegally dumped debris. The community tool sheds also have driven dramatic growth of the KEPB program, from an estimated 45 clean-up projects a year in 2004 to more than 350 projects a year currently. A local home improvement center provided initial funding for the tool shed program. Additional funding has come from community members, the Paso Del Norte Health Foundation, and the Rio Grande Council of Governments.

Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, El Paso (Category: Agriculture)

Two state agencies tasked the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station in El Paso with using lab analysis to pinpoint whether agriculture activities, wildlife, or humans were responsible for particular bacteria found in specific watersheds. Using state-of-the-art DNA fingerprinting and antibiotic resistance typing methods for E. coli, they identified specific animal and human sources of fecal pollution from the watersheds of Lake Waco and Belton Lake, the Upper and Lower San Antonio River, Salado Creek, Leon River, and Peach Creek. In addition, the research team created a genetic library of E. coli bacteria isolated from known sources. Use of the library may save millions of dollars on future tracking projects.

GARLAND

Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions, LLC (Category: Large Business/Nontechnical)

During 2006, Atlas Copco demonstrated its commitment to the environment by investing in both technology and people. The drilling equipment manufacturer spent nearly $1 million dollars upgrading lighting and air-conditioning systems. The investment, along with other procedural changes, reduced electrical use by 25 percent that year. Solid waste disposal dropped by 65 percent, and water usage was cut by 18 percent. Because of the savings, the company believes it will recoup its entire investment in the new systems in less than three years. Further, Atlas Copco, in cooperation with the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, hosts workshops to train its suppliers about the international standard ISO 14001 and environmental management systems. Such efforts earned the company the distinction of being one of "The 2006 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World" by a leading business analyst.

Rick Norwood (Category: Individual)

In 2002, retired Texas Department of Transportation assistant director Rick Norwood began volunteering for The Nature Conservancy (TNC). He quickly became involved in a database development project between TNC and Fort Hood to collect endangered songbird monitoring data. Norwood devoted hundreds of hours to analyzing individual databases, some of which dated back as far as 1980. From these he created one all-encompassing program, called the Fort Hood Avian Management System, delivering the new version in 2005. He also used the same framework to develop another management database that organizes native plant-nursery information used by the conservancy's Southmost Preserve.. As a result of monitoring, management, and research made possible by the database, significant populations of the endangered Black-capped Vireo and Golden-cheeked Warbler are found at Fort Hood. The avian database facilitates the analysis of collected data, and Norwood continues to refine the program he first developed. Through his volunteerism, Norwood has saved over $100,000 in the cost of developing this important tool for monitoring and research. Other parks or conservation organizations can also adapt the system to collect data on their own avian and vegetation monitoring efforts.

PASADENA

Sarah Metzger (Category: Individual)

Engineering coordinator for the City of Pasadena Public Works Department, Sarah Metzger goes above and beyond the scope of her job duties by working tirelessly to promote environmental stewardship in her community. She guides field trips and gives presentations on the importance of preserving the ecosystem using materials--outreach brochures, pamphlets and videos--that she creates. She began an Adopt-A-Waterway program to give citizens a sense of ownership as they work to improve water quality, and she wrote the Construction Alliance Handbook, a pollution-prevention publication for builders in the Galveston Bay area. In the spring of 2006, she organized the city's first environmental fair. Pasadena Director of Planning Tim Tietjens summed up Metzger's contribution by saying "The citizens of the City of Pasadena and the Galveston Bay area, as well as our rivers, bayous, and bay are better off because of the work of Sarah Metzger."

SAN ANTONIO

San Antonio River Basin Monitoring Network Partnership (Category: Government)

Local government, business, and community leaders in San Antonio united to create an innovative network of monitoring stations in the greater San Antonio River basin to detect pollution early. Since 2005, the San Antonio River Basin Monitoring Network (SARBMN) partnership has been providing real-time data on the basin's water quality to scientists, regulators, and the public. This voluntary partnership between local government and the private sector is also yielding important information about baseline conditions so that long-term water quality trends can be monitored in the face of increased development and urbanization. The program is estimated to have saved the state nearly $400,000 in equipment, installation, monitoring, and maintenance costs. Project partners include the Bexar Metropolitan Water District, Capitol Cement, CPS Energy, H-E-B, Public Center for Environmental Health, San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, San Antonio River Authority, San Antonio Water System, TCEQ, Texas Industries (TXI), U. S. Geological Survey, and the Witte Museum. Other SARBMN members contribute to the program's success.

A New Dimension to Celebrating Father's Day--Helping Men To Be Better Dads

A New Dimension to Celebrating Father's Day--Helping Men To Be Better Dads

(PRWEB) June 12, 2000

Washington, D. CÂ….Father's Day takes on a new dimension this year as several organizations work to raise the visibility of fatherhood issues and to help put information in the hands of men. In an effort to help men be better dads, organizations are hosting events that will provide information, resources, training and awareness for dads and male caregivers. The campaign, spearheaded by Parenting Coalition International, Inc. (PCI) is a national initiative to encourage fathers to be actively engaged in the lives of their children. Research shows that when fathers are involved, their children learn more, perform better in school, and exhibit healthier behavior. Even when fathers do not share a home with their children, their active involvement can have a lasting and positive impact. Launched on the heels of The Fathers Count Act of 1999 adopted by the U. S. House of Representatives and at a time that the Senate is considering the "Responsible Fatherhood" bill (S.1364) sponsored by Senator Bayh (D-Ind), this campaign raises additional awareness of the latest research and the need to keep fathers connected to their children.

"Our goals are to mobilize entire communities to address the issue of fatherhood in America and to disseminate information about the support, outreach and skills building programs that are available locally and nationally," said Belinda Rollins, President of PCI. "This is not a one-day event, but a process to provide the knowledge, tools, and resources to help dads to be better dads. We are working with the office of National Drug Control Policy's National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign, The Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U. S. Department of Education's Partnership for Family Involvement in Education to provide tried, true and research-based materials."

The first event is scheduled for June 11 in Detroit, Michigan with "Gathering of Men" where men will celebrate their accomplishments as well as address their pain, fears and insecurities that affect their careers, families and relationships. On June 17, the Washington Urban League will host a Male Only Conference with workshops and lunch at the Phyllis Wheatley Y. W.C. A. in Washington, D. C. Other events taking place on June 17 are being hosted by, The Waterbury Chapter of PCI, Waterbury, Connecticut; Tennessee Parents First, Nashville, Tennessee; The Jones Center for Families, Springdale, Arkansas and Hawaii Coalition for Dads. On June 22nd, the Indianapolis Center for Family, School and Community Partnership will host an event. Jammin 95.7 Radio Station in Philadelphia, PA is hosting a live remote, exhibits and workshops, July 15 and The Parental Assistance Program of Flemingsburg, Kentucky will host the Second Annual Parent Conference on September 9. The Illinois Fatherhood Initiative hosted a Spring Fatherhood Festival in May and will be holding its annual Dinner Celebration on June 16 in Chicago, Illinois.

Parenting Coalition International, Inc., a national not-for-profit organization works to strengthen families by creating, promoting and making accessible, resources, tools and knowledge to enhance the skills and attitudes for raising healthy, successful and responsible children. PCI spearheads the annual observance of National Parents' Day in July and National Parent Involvement Day in November and publishes the ABC's of Parent Involvement in Education. Supporters of this campaign include The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The AFL-CIO and Blockbuster Video. For more information call (202) 530-0849 or visit www. parentingcoalition. org.

Missouri High-Risk Pool Wins Federal Grant

Missouri High-Risk Pool Wins Federal Grant

Multi-Million Dollar Grant Award Offsets Costs of Health Insurance

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) October 8, 2006

Executive Director Vernita Bridges received confirmation today that the Missouri Health Insurance Pool (MHIP) was awarded a $2.4 million grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

“We are ecstatic to have won the first grant in the 15-year history of the Missouri Health Insurance Pool,” stated Director Bridges. “This is a great day for Missouri and the MHIP. The grant award boosts our ability to continue to provide health insurance to Missouri residents who cannot get conventional health coverage because of their health condition.”

The Missouri Health Insurance Pool is a state mandated high-risk health insurance pool established in 1991. Approximately 3,000 Missourians are enrolled with the MHIP program.

“While MHIP currently offers a benefit plan comparable to the standard market, we are unable to set the premium rates at a more affordable level due to statutory requirements. This grant award allows us to expand enrollment in the program to accommodate Missourians who need our plan, but cannot afford the premiums,” Bridges said.

Grant monies will be used to fund operational losses, offsetting expenses not covered by premiums collected from enrollees. “Premiums typically cover about 60 percent of the cost of the program,” noted Bridges. “Assessments on health insurers in Missouri fund the remaining 40 percent. There are no other funding mechanisms currently available for operation of the MHIP.”

The grant is part of the Bush Administration’s broad strategy for expanding access to health care for the more than 46 million Americans without health insurance. “This grant for the Missouri high-risk pool will help Missourians who otherwise might not be able to obtain insurance to get the health coverage and medical care they need,” Bridges said.

The MHIP website at http://www. mhip. org (http://www. mhip. org) provides complete information about the Missouri high-risk health insurance pool.

History Making Young Race Car Driver visits Nemours Children's Clinic

History Making Young Race Car Driver visits Nemours Children's Clinic

Brad Coleman made history on March 19, 2004 for being the youngest driver to race in the Star Mazda Pro Formula Series. The day before his big race he visited patients at Nemours Children's Clinic in Florida at Orlando.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) March 21, 2004

Inspiring children is just as important as being a self inspired teen to break racing records. On Thursday March 18, 2004 Nemours Children’s Clinic-Florida at Orlando will welcome pioneering teen driver Brad Coleman to their clinic. “Brad’s visit will definitely brighten the day for many of our patients,” said Gidget Ruscetta, Associate Administrator for Nemours Children’s Clinic-Florida at Orlando.

Coleman, will make history as the youngest driver to race in the Star Mazda Pro Formula Series on Friday, March 19th at Sebring International Raceway, in Sebring Florida only three weeks after celebrating his 16th birthday. During his visit to Nemours, Coleman will spend the morning signing autographs and speaking with patients. “It is a wonderful treat to have Brad offer to spend time visiting our clinic as busy as his racing schedule is,” said Mark Swanson, MD, Pediatrician-In-Chief and Medical Director at Nemours Children’s Clinic-Florida at Orlando.

The young driver became the first 14 year-old in the U. S. to earn a professional racing license, and is set to take the reins of a 170MPH open-wheel race car at the famed Florida circuit. Coleman logged over 20,000 test miles racing cars before he was old enough to get his Texas Driver’s License a few weeks ago. “My total focus is to race in the Indianapolis 500 one day, and then follow that with a NASCAR Cup race”, said Coleman. Along with his open-wheel racing circuit endeavors, he is also training in Stock Cars to be equally prepared for any opportunities that may arise on the American racing scene.

At the age of 12, Coleman was discovered at an indoor karting center in Houston, Texas by racing legend Price Cobb, who immediately recommended he join the ranks of the worldÂ’s best young drivers in the sport of high-speed karting. So far, Coleman has won three karting series season championships in his Rookie season and went on to race in the Formula Fran-Am Pro Series last year where he finished fourth for the season and garnered his second Rookie of the Year Award.

“The first time I saw him drive I was stunned. This kid is one gifted talent.” noted Cobb; Le Mans Champion, Team Owner and now Brad’s Driving Coach. “The only thing I could credit it to is his God given talent and the wealth of time he spent practicing on racing simulator games as a kid.”

Coleman will be available to the media following his visit. Please contact Natashia Ford, Public Relations Manager for Nemours ChildrenÂ’s Clinic-Florida at Orlando at (407) 650-7044 to arrange for an interview.

Technology Firm Reveals Lethal Epidemic Raging in Online Medical Marketing

Technology Firm Reveals Lethal Epidemic Raging in Online Medical Marketing

A study by Etna Interactive shows that 70% of plastic surgeons may be missing up to 80% of their potential patients

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) February 14, 2007

Etna Interactive (http://etnainteractive. com) recently uncovered the pervasive occurrence of a potentially lethal condition affecting the majority of board-certified plastic surgeon's Web sites. Simply put, the plight these Web sites suffer is obscurity. Prospective patients just can't find them.

A search engine optimization (SEO) firm specializing in health marketing, Etna Interactive is in the business of making online trends meaningful to the medical marketplace. In late 2006, the organization conducted an independent study of more than 300 plastic surgery Web sites, scoring them on 10 objective, observable criteria. The astonishing result: the average score was a dismal 3.2 out of a possible 10 points. The methodology and results are discussed in a free whitepaper available for download at www. etnainteractive. com/reports (http://www. etnainteractive. com/reports).

"We knew from experience that the typical plastic surgeon was burdened with a sub-par Web site," commented Ryan Miller, Founder and CEO of Etna Interactive, "but we never thought the condition would be so bad and so widespread. Our study revealed that the average plastic surgeon is ailing online."

"The tragedy is," Miller continued, "the 10 criteria we examined are the most basic ways to 'search engine optimize' a Web site. One measure was whether a page includes a location keyword. Fully half the pages we reviewed neglected to reference a location." To understand why this is important, Ryan suggested plastic surgeons consider how an average person searches the Web for services. If a searcher enters a service without a location, they find sites offering the service all over the country and perhaps the world. When the service keyword is followed by a location keyword, that's when a search yields relevant results.

Nearly three out of four U. S. homes have computers today, and 80% of computer users search the Web for medical services and providers. That means that in most areas of the country, the Internet has more potential to reach new patients than any other media. Physicians who don't have effective Web sites risk missing a huge percentage of their target market. A Web site with the power to make meaningful connections with prospective patients is no longer a frill, it's key to the very survival of an elective surgery practice.

Surgeons are some of the most highly-educated, achievement-oriented professionals in our society. The fact that their Web sites underperform is not due to lack of perception, according to Miller. It's most often due to lack of time to devote to Web marketing, and, in some cases, a low comfort level with computer technology. "In fact, most plastic surgeons with ailing Web sites aren't even aware of the condition," Miller said.

Etna Interactive's white paper on this "Hidden Epidemic" offers simple formulas for evaluating a Web site and recommended actions for achieving a full recovery. Visit www. etnainteractive. com/reports (http://www. etnainteractive. com/reports) to download a copy.

About Etna Interactive

Founded in 2002 and based in San Luis Obispo, California, Etna Interactive provides Web marketing services to the elective healthcare industry (including medical device manufacturers, plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons, cosmetic dentists and medical day spas); to physicians and surgeons offering new or novel treatments; and to professional service providers including lawyers, architects and builders. Overweight Linked to Malnutrition

Overweight Linked to Malnutrition

Overweight now surpasses underweight as a world-wide problem. Surprisingly, both conditions are caused by malnutrition.

(PRWEB) March 11, 2005

In the United States, 61 percent of women are overweight and 33 percent are obese and thus at serious risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer according to a study published by U. S. and Brazilian researchers in this week's issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. ("More Women Fat Than Underfed Around World"). Overweight and its inherent dangers now surpass underweight as a world-wide problem according to researchers.

This is no surprise to Dr. Dana Myatt, bariatric family physician and author of The Super Fast Diet (www. super-fast-diet. com). "What is a surprise to most people is that overweight women - whether in the U. S. or a third world country - are malnourished--- literally starving to death," notes Myatt. The U. S. Surgeon General's report agrees that "excesses and deficiencies" are the cause of overweight. Myatt explains the relationship between malnutrition and overweight.

"Overweight people are literally starving at the cellular level. The Standard American Diet (S. A.D.) provides more than enough empty calories to make us fat, but not enough essential nutrients to satisfy our appetites or keep us healthy. We eat to excess because we are famished, and restrictive diets that further deprive us of essential nutrients only make the problem worse."

"Evolutionarily speaking, humans have been, for most of our existence, hunters and gatherers. When food was plentiful, we ate plentifully. When food was scarce, the body evolved ways to maintain a minimal but healthful weight in spite of calorie deficiencies. 'Fat-storing' and energy-conserving abilities evolved to keep us alive in times when food was scarce. Our ability to store fat and slow metabolism is accomplished by a decrease in metabolic rate and an increase in fat-promoting hormones."

"Today, unless one is in a true underprivileged group in the US, calorie deficiencies are uncommon. Remember, however, that it is not merely calories that the body requires. Lack of protein, Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) or any one of the 27+ essential vitamins, minerals or trace minerals will signal 'famine' to the body. With modern foods that have been highly processed and stripped of many of their original nutrients, it is entirely possible and in fact likely, to consume more than enough calories to make us fat but not enough of one or more essential nutrients to prevent the malnutrition-induced “famine” that triggers fat-storage. Dieting makes the problem worse because most if not all diets call for further restriction of essential fats or protein. This fat and protein restriction in turn reduces vitamin and mineral intake. The more America diets, the fatter we get because we are still missing these 'essential' elements from food."

The recent Reuters news article almost got it right. What the article should have said was that women who are fat are almost as malnourished as women who are underfed. Myatt's ebook, The Super Fast Diet (www. Super-Fast-Diet. com) explains how correcting the malnutrition of overweight breaks this vicious cycle of famine and stimulates fast, healthful weight loss.

Proper Foot Care a Must for Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease

Proper Foot Care a Must for Patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease

May is World Foot Health Awareness Month, and the P. A.D Coalition and International Federation of Podiatrists Partner have partnered to spread messages about proper foot care. People with P. A.D. can prevent serious foot problems and amputations by taking care of their feet—every day.

Lakewood, CO (Vocus) May 11, 2010

People who have peripheral arterial disease (P. A.D.) – or clogged arteries of the legs --are likely to develop foot problems. When the blood vessels in the feet and legs are narrowed or blocked, not enough blood flows to these parts of the body. As a result, minor problems such as cuts, sores or blisters cannot heal quickly, or heal at all.

P. A.D. is very common in adults with diabetes and these patients have an even greater risk of foot problems. In addition to poor circulation, people with P. A.D. and diabetes also may develop nerve damage from high blood glucose (sugar) levels, causing loss of feeling in their feet. One may not feel a pebble inside their sock that is causing a sore or not feel a blister develop due to friction or poorly fitting shoes. These small foot injuries can cause sores or ulcers that can turn into serious infections. If not treated promptly, these problems may lead to losing a toe, foot or leg. In fact, P. A.D. is one of the leading causes of foot or leg amputations in the United States and perhaps around the world.

May is World Foot Health Awareness Month, and the P. A.D Coalition is teaming up with the International Federation of Podiatrists to spread messages about proper foot care. People with P. A.D. can prevent serious foot problems and amputations by taking care of their feet—every day.

Foot care tips include:

Wash your feet each day with warm water and a mild soap or cleanser. Dry your feet gently and well. Be sure to dry between the toes.  Check your feet every day for sores, blisters, cuts, red spots and rashes.  Trim your toenails straight across and file the edges. Rounded edges help prevent ingrown toenails that can cause infections.  Wear socks and shoes at all times.  Choose proper footwear. When you buy new shoes, have a shoe expert make sure the size is right for your feet. Break new shoes in slowly.

Protect your feet from hot and cold. Wear socks at night if your feet get cold. Always wear shoes at the beach, the pool, or on hot pavement. If you have diabetes, do not test bath water with your feet; use your arm or hand to be sure the water is not too hot.

A.D. Established in 2004, the P. A.D. Coalition is a division of the Vascular Disease Foundation (http://www. vdf. org), a national, not-for-profit section 501(c)(3) organization. The P. A.D. Coalition seeks to improve the prevention, early detection, treatment, and rehabilitation of people with, or at risk for, P. A.D.

AnyDoc Software Debuts TWAIN Scanner Interface

New Interface Eliminates Add-On Software/Hardware Costs

(PRWEB) May 23, 2003

TAMPA, Fla – AnyDoc Software, provider of the award-winning document and data capture solution OCR for AnyDoc™ (formerly OCR for Forms™), unveiles a new interface that includes the TWAIN production driver for interoperability with leading scanners. The solution is incorporated in CAPTUREit™ software and is being demonstrated in booth #2462 at the AIIM show in New York.

Companies that use CAPTUREit to extend the capabilities of OCR for AnyDoc now have a forms processing solution that supports the TWAIN specification.

TWAIN is a public standard that ensures compatibility between applications and image acquisition devices. The TWAIN interface enables communication between AnyDoc Software products and industry scanners, without the need for add-on “middleware” or hardware boards.

“TWAIN adds convenience and cost efficiency to document and data capture systems,” said AnyDoc Software President and CEO Charles W. Jackson. “Its ability to support production scanners at rated speeds ensures the robust performance that our customers expect from our solutions.”

The TWAIN interface is currently integrated in CAPTUREit, which provides standalone document capture and can also be used to add remote scanning (capture) capabilities to OCR for AnyDoc, enterprise-level forms processing software. With CAPTUREit, document images can be remotely captured and sent over the Internet for processing by OCR for AnyDoc at a central location. TWAIN driver support substantially increases the cost effectiveness of CAPTUREit in remote office scenarios, by eliminating the need to purchase interface cards for each site.

At the AIIM show, persons who come by the AnyDoc Software booth and register will receive access to a limited edition version of CAPTUREit with the new TWAIN scanner interface. The free trial version is limited to 15 scans per day.

The Active Network Reveals Behavioral Habits of More Than 11,000 Active Moms; Active Moms Drive Health Awareness Among Family and Friends

The Active Network Reveals Behavioral Habits of More Than 11,000 Active Moms; Active Moms Drive Health Awareness Among Family and Friends

The Active Network Inc., a technology and media company, revealed today the result of a survey of over 11,000 active moms who are a part of the Active. com Lifestyle Panel, which recruits exclusively from Active. com’s family of media properties. Composed of consumers who are passionate about living an “active” lifestyle, this newly launched panel provides the ability to survey these difficult to reach individuals who regularly participate in a wide range of activities, including running, hiking, fishing, camping, biking, golf, tennis, yoga and more.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2010

The Active Network, Inc. (http://www. activenetwork. com), a technology and media company, revealed today that active moms make it a priority to keep themselves healthy despite their busy schedules and are also instrumental in driving overall health and fitness among family and friends.

These findings are the result of a survey of over 11,000 active moms who are a part of the Active. com Lifestyle Panel, which recruits exclusively from Active. com’s (http://www. active. com) family of media properties. Composed of consumers who are passionate about living an “active” lifestyle, this newly launched panel provides the ability to survey these difficult to reach individuals who regularly participate in a wide range of activities, including running, hiking, fishing, camping, biking, golf, tennis, yoga and more.

Of the 11,000+ active moms surveyed, key findings include:

Physical activity is an important priority for active moms: Despite the fact that 84% of active moms surveyed are employed (full-time, part-time or self-employed), they still find time to make activity a priority. Active moms regularly participate in multiple sports with running and walking being the most popular - 76% are runners and 60% are walkers. Additionally, they find time to exercise regularly with over 80% participating in physical activity three to four times a week and more.

Active moms use physical activity to manage their busy lives as well as their overall health and wellness: The top three motivators to working out include physical health (94%), stress relief (84%) and weight loss (70%).

If a mom is active, you can bet her friends and family are active too: Among the active moms surveyed, they are a source of information about health and wellness - 76% agree with the statement friends and family frequently ask them questions about health and fitness. A mother’s commitment to physical activity positively impacts her family as well - 75% of active moms surveyed, stated that they have family members who participate in multiple sports.

“Through our Active. com media properties, which provided the 11,000+ moms who participated in the survey, the Active Network is able to provide unparalleled insight into the overall health and wellness habits and behaviors of active moms today,” explained Stephany Cavatoni, general manager, Consumer Access and Insight for Active Network. “As a mother myself, I’m continually inspired by these findings and encouraged that so many moms find time to not only take care of themselves and juggle a career, but also encourage their family and friends to be physically active.”

If you would like more information about the study and its results, please contact Dana McKeithen, Dana(dot)mckeithen(at)active(dot)com.

NASCAR Puts New Face on Sun Blocks

Race Face sun block capitalizes on NASCAR popularity; TricorBraun provides unique packaging.

Saint Louis, MO (PRWEB) October 12, 2006

NASCAR fans are bringing their Race Face to the track in increasing numbers. Race Face is a new NASCAR-branded skin conditioner and sun block that is sold in a tottle -- a combination tube and bottle.

A lanyard is attached to the elliptically shaped, two-ounce container to keep it accessible and to distinguish it from other sun blocks, according to Terri Sheppard, C. P.P., the TricorBraun packaging consultant that worked with Agility Sports, LLC, manufacturer of Race Face.

“The elliptical shape allows the container to rest comfortably against the customer’s chest,” Ms. Sheppard said.

The sunscreen is also sold in an eight-ounce container and is available in SPF 15 and SPF 30 levels of sun protection. The containers are made from extrusion blow molded, high-density polyethylene.

Race Face is a product of Agility Sports, LLC, a marketer of sports-related products.

TricorBraun is one of the nation’s leading suppliers of rigid packaging, with its primary focus on personal care; cosmetics; healthcare; food and wine; as well as industrial and household chemicals. The company has 30 offices in the United States and Canada.

Have a Heart for Africa Bono Associate Starts New Website

Have a Heart for Africa Bono Associate Starts New Website

Starting on Valentine's Day, people will be able to visit a new website which will directly link them with some of those most directly affected by the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The website of the Mulago Positive Women's Network (MPWN) of Kampala Uganda, headed by Agnes Nyamayarwo, a main spokesperson of ONE (the Campaign to Make Poverty History - www. one. org), founded by Bono (U2) is being released today, Valentine's Day, to encourage people around the world to "Have a Heart for Africa".

New York, NY (PRWEB) February 16, 2008

Starting on Valentine's Day, people will be able to visit a new website which will directly link them with some of those most directly affected by the AIDS pandemic in Africa.

The website of the Mulago Positive Women's Network (MPWN) of Kampala Uganda, headed by Agnes Nyamayarwo, a main spokesperson of ONE (the Campaign to Make Poverty History - www. one. org), founded by Bono (U2) is being released today, Valentine's Day, to encourage people around the world to "Have a Heart for Africa".

The HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa has been recognized as the worst health epidemic in modern human history. Already, over thirty-seven (37) million people have died of AIDS around the world with at least twenty-five (25) million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Starting today, there is a new website which highlights the challenges of "living positively" with HIV/AIDS in Africa.

The website of the Mulago Positive Women's Network (MPWN) - www. mpwn-uganda. org - will be a unique opportunity for the public to interact with some of those in Africa directly affected by the AIDS pandemic. The website will contain personal stories of some of the womenof the MPWN along with links to associated websites where visitors can learn more about how they can help stop HIV/AIDS and extreme poverty in Africa.

Visitors will also be able to purchase some of the traditional African craft items that the women of the MPWN produce. All proceeds from the sale of these craft items will go directly to the women who produce them. Craft items that will be available for purchase include African beaded necklaces, batik wall hangings, hand-carved wooden statues, African baskets of all colors, shapes and sizes and an African mother with child doll handmade by Agnes Nyamayarwo herself.

Agnes Nyamayarwo is the main facilitator of the Mulago Positive Women's Network. The MPWN was started in January 2004 to address the special needs of HIV+ women in Uganda. Based in Kampala Uganda, the MPWN functions as a support network to assist its members in "living positively" with HIV/AIDS.

The MPWN is affiliated with TASO (The AIDS Support Organization - www. tasouganda. org) of Uganda - one of the longest established and most prestigious African-initiated AIDS organizations in the continent.

Agnes Nyamayarwo has often been referred to by Bono (U2) as one of the "heroes" of the AIDS pandemic in Africa. In 2002, during a trip to Africa, Bono visited with several members of TASO, including Agnes, and was inspired by her courage in her personal struggle with HIV/AIDS.

Agnes would become a main speaker on the "Heart of America" tour with Bono in December 2002 which launched DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa - www. data. org). Agnes is also a main spokesperson for ONE, the Campaign to Make Poverty History (www. one. org) where she continues to this day to advocate on behalf of the world's poorest people.

Bono continues his activities for Africa through DATA and ONE as well as through RED (www. joinred. com) and EDUN (www. edunonline. com)

The Mulago Positive Women's Network would like to thank Jason Liebe and Iterative Media of Austin Texas for their assistance in the creation and maintenance of their website. Other notables to thank are Juliet Tembe and TASO, all the people at DATA and ONE, Debbie Kreuser and Sue Sadkowski who championed this website from start to finish and Bono - for all that he has done and continues to do for Africa.

For more information on this venture, please call (512) 992-7782.

Asbestos: Lessons in Shame

Asbestos: Lessons in Shame

How can a tiny mineral kill tens of thousands of people and cost industry billions of dollars? It's actually pretty simple when the mineral is a carcinogen called asbestos and companies tried to hide its dangers. Diseases caused by asbestos include: mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) December 13, 2007

The Surviving Mesothelioma website http://www. survivingmesothelioma. com (http://www. survivingmesothelioma. com) has listed some of the most outrageous examples of companies hiding the truth about deadly asbestos from the public and their own employees. The result of this shameful behavior is that thousands of healthy people of all ages have become stricken with debilitating and deadly diseases like mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

For example in the early 1940's, the president of a major asbestos manufacturing company said that the managers of another company were "a bunch of fools for notifying employees who had asbestosis." When one of the people in attendance asked, "Do you mean to tell me you would let them work until they drop dead?" According to deposition testimony, the response was, "Yes. We save a lot of money that way."

One of the people that may have saved these companies money was Paul Kraus. When Paul was a young man he worked downwind from a factory that cut asbestos sheets. Paul remembers the blue dust wafting in the air and settling all around him - on his clothes, hands and arms, and on his work area. Thirty years later he would be diagnosed with mesothelioma (http://www. survivingmesothelioma. com) - the "asbestos caused cancer." His prognosis was six months to live. Unlike many others, Paul was quite fortunate. He followed his own path to healing and continues to live a healthy, quality life, ten years after he was first diagnosed. He described his experiences in his acclaimed book: Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers: A Patient's Guide.
