College Students and Sodexo Conserve Energy with Kitchen Updates

College Students and Sodexo Conserve Energy with Kitchen Updates

First collaboration of its kind yields recommendations for updates that will cut energy bill by 30 percent

Gaithersburg, Md. (Vocus) May 7, 2009

Sodexo, a leading integrated services company providing food service and facilities management on 600 campuses in the United States, joined with a group of sustainability-minded Ithaca College students in upstate New York to cook up a plan to chop the energy bill by 30 percent and slice the kitchen carbon footprint by 26 percent by switching to energy-efficient equipment and promoting a conservation mindset.

"This partnership demonstrates fiscal and environmental responsibility and above all, the change engine is being driven by our students," said Tom Rochon, president of Ithaca College. "We've discovered a substantial way to cut our utility bills and to help the planet at the same time."

The Sodexo-Ithaca team, the first collaboration of its kind, spearheaded a two-week equipment inventory in January. Sodexo and the students examined every piece of equipment for energy efficiency. In February they conducted a water and energy audit. Their findings helped to develop a baseline estimate of dining-service energy consumption and carbon emissions. Dining facilities require five times more energy than lecture halls or offices. The team identified short and long range ways to curb energy use that include installing energy-efficient exhaust fans, making employees more aware of energy use and adding light sensors. The team's plan will cut the energy bill by nearly $140,000 per year via low-cost or no-cost projects. Investments in energy-efficient equipment will cost just over $215,000 and will pay for themselves in 19 months.

"Students are passionate about the environment and teaming with them promotes sustainability on campus as well as after they graduate," said Al Allen, president of Sodexo facility management. "The education community can play a determinant role in leading the effort as it fits the education, research and public service missions of these institutions."

Campuses across the United States, including Ithaca College, have pledged to be good environmental stewards through the American College & University President's Climate Commitment, an effort to reduce and ultimately neutralize greenhouse gas emission on campus.

This program is part of Sodexo's ongoing commitment to reduce waste, conserve water, to provide locally grown and sourced foods and materials and to engage in green cleaning practices in all food service and facilities management client sites globally.

Sodexo, Inc.

DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions Launches New PV5200 Series Photovoltaic Encapsulants Based on Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) Sheet Technology

DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions Launches New PV5200 Series Photovoltaic Encapsulants Based on Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) Sheet Technology

DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions (DPVS) announces commercial availability of new DuPont™ PV5200 Series photovoltaic (PV) encapsulant sheets, based on polyvinyl butyral (PVB) polymer technology.

Wilmington, DE (Vocus) April 23, 2009

DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions (DPVS) announces commercial availability of new DuPont™ PV5200 Series photovoltaic (PV) encapsulant sheets, based on polyvinyl butyral (PVB) polymer technology. The new PVB sheets offer physical and processing performance levels proven in laminated glass manufacturing, with additional features designed in to meet the needs of thin-film solar power generation.

The DuPont™ PV5200 Series encapsulants are the first in a series of products emerging from recent DuPont development efforts to optimize encapsulants for faster, more efficient module production and longer service life. Focused on glass-glass thin-film module constructions, new DuPont™ PV5200 Series encapsulant sheets assure excellent glass adhesion and proven safety glass performance, with high visible light transmission.

"DuPont™ PV5200 Series encapsulants have been optimized for mechanical, adhesive, melt-flow and chemical stability properties in contact with new thin-film module manufacturing materials," said Steve Cluff, business director for DuPont Photovoltaic Encapsulants. Cluff heads a recently formed 30-person encapsulants team at DuPont, working closely with module manufacturers to enable new fabrication methods and use of new materials of construction.

"The DuPont™ PV5200 Series sheet is a clear, pliable material with excellent flow characteristics, well-suited for module encapsulation using nip-roll/autoclave, vacuum laminating and novel solar module processing methods," said Cluff. The new PVB-based encapsulant sheets are offered in thicknesses from 15 mil (0.38 mm) to 45 mil (1.14 mm), for sampling and use by solar module makers worldwide.

Besides the PV5200 Series, DuPont anticipates the launch of several other PV sheet technologies in 2009, drawing from its cross-disciplinary approach to encapsulants research.

"Unlike single-product suppliers, DuPont has an industry-leading range of clear, tough, adhesive materials that can be used in solar module manufacturing, including technologies adapted from related industries such as food packaging, roofing and building panel lamination," said Cluff.

DuPont forecasts a market for encapsulants growing at least 25 percent per year over the next 5 years. As much as 20 percent of the market is expected to shift to new encapsulants during that time, based on results of module compatibility testing and accelerated aging studies now under way for leading module manufacturers.

DuPont™ PV5200 Series Encapsulants are part of a broad and growing portfolio of products represented by DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions, which connects science and technology from across the company on a global scale to help support the dramatic growth in the photovoltaic industry. Surf on Land in This Summer - Pumgo Scooter "A New Way to Ride" and "Fit for Fun"

Surf on Land in This Summer - Pumgo Scooter "A New Way to Ride" and "Fit for Fun"

This summer people can enjoy some of their routine indoor exercise in the outdoor environment. Pumgo scooter introduces a new concept of exercise and fitness. And that is "Fit for Fun!" Both adults and kids can experience Pumgo Scooter riding with great cardiovascular workout. Visit www. pumgo. com for the product information, including videos.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 28, 2009

The Pumgo Scooter is a new human-powered vehicle. It was introduced to the world for the first time at the New York International Toy Fair on February 15-18, 2009 at Javits Convention Center. Many show attendees regarded Pumgo Scooter as the best new ride-on product at the show.

The Pumgo Scooter uses a unique and innovative pedal recovery and drive system that creates a smooth and comfortable ride as the rider pumps the pedals up and down, similar to a stationary stair-climber. Unlike seated human powered vehicles, the Pumgo Scooter uses a rider's full body weight to generate driving force, enabling larger children to fully participate in Pumgo riding.

From an engineering perspective, the Pumgo Scooter's simultaneous dual-pedal recovery system combined with its drive system is a true innovation in human powered vehicles. Other mobile products have tried to recreate the non-cycling, up-down motion similar to a stair-climber with limited practical results. Parallel crank shafts engage a pair of gears to produce the reciprocal pedal recovery while two chain wheels, similar to a bicycle, combine with four flywheels to form the drive system. Differentials in the two rear wheels allow for each to rotate at different speeds, facilitating smooth, safe turns. The end result is a natural, comfortable ride that is both fun and healthy. Since the pedals operate only in the 80-degree maximum output zone (rather than a full 360 degrees like cycling), the propulsion is extremely efficient with each "pump," producing the highest amount of forward thrust. Unlike seated human powered vehicles, the Pumgo Scooter uses a rider's full body weight to generate driving force for maximum output and more efficient exercise.

Dr. Batchelor, an Atlanta sports medicine doctor that specializes in the treatment of athletic injury, recently evaluated the Pumgo Scooter. Dr. Batchelor was impressed by the Pumgo Scooter's ability to work the body's core. He stated: "Riding the Pumgo simulates the feeling of being on a stair climber, skateboard, surfboard, and bicycle all at the same time. It also offers less weight-bearing impact than other exercises like running, which can be hard on joints. It's a great cardiovascular workout, with a faster more condensed workout time than running or biking. Pedaling on the Pumgo Scooter offers an efficient exercise with an up-down motion. The Pumgo Scooter offers much more enjoyment than the stationary stair-climber or kick scooter. While your time on an indoor stair stepping machine brings little enjoyment, your time outside, in the fresh air, on the Pumgo Scooter will bring loads of enjoyment and a great workout."

The Pumgo Scooter offers an enjoyable ride with all the benefits of a healthy exercise. Whether you are looking for fun, recreation, a sporting toy, transportation, or a fitness instrument, the Pumgo Scooter provides it all. It's the coolest gadget for whole family.

To find out more about the Pumgo Scooter, visit www. pumgo. com. Pumgo Scooter will be sold at www. ToysRUs. com very soon. If you are in L. A area, you can purchase Pumgo Scooter at Big 5 Sporting Goods headquarter store (2525 E. El Segundo Blvd., El Segundo, CA 90245, Tel. 310-297-7777).

Mold is a Real Health Threat in South Florida

Mold is a Real Health Threat in South Florida

Er Environmental Group, a Miami based mold inspection firm, opens its doors for business in Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County.

Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 24, 2006

Er Environmental Group, a Miami based mold inspection firm, opens its doors for business in Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County.

With hurricane season in effect, mold is a concern that haunts many Florida residents. The summer months bring elevated humidity levels, which in turn increase the potential for mold growth in our homes. Mold can become present in your home or business in many ways: flooding, leaky roofs, plumbing leaks, burst pipes, even rain or sprinkler water against the house. Sometimes, you can see discoloration on the walls or ceiling, or you see your floors have warped. Maybe, there is a musty odor in certain rooms of the house or condensation on the walls.

Water intrusion can lead to mold growth and if the growth is extensive, some people may become sensitized to high spore levels and develop allergies or other health problems. Gone unchecked, mold growth can damage furnishings, clothes and shoes, as well as the structural elements in your house.

It is recognized that exposure to indoor mold is not healthy for anyone. ER Environmental Group can help with locating the source of the water intrusion as well as the mold that has developed from it.

Erik Rosenstein, CEO and Sr. Environmental Consultant of ER Environmental Group has the knowledge and experience it takes takes to identify and treat mold contamination. Erik Rosenstein has a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the university of Tampa, a Master's Degree in Environmental Risk Assessment from the University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia, and a Master's Degree in Environmental Law from the University of Sydney Law School in Sydney, Australia. He has worked with the Australian Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with testing for biological and chemical environmental pollutants, and has been in the mold industry for the past 4 years.

As there are no real standards or regulations for the mold testing industry, many people with no real knowledge are becoming mold inspectors. Would you trust your health and that of your family to someone with no understanding of the underlying causes for mold problems, or would you rather trust a real expert?

ER Environmental Group provides mold testing services for residential and commercial properties in the areas of Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County, FL.

The HEPA Air Filter Difference: A Higher Standard for Air Filtration Performance

The HEPA Air Filter Difference: A Higher Standard for Air Filtration Performance

When it comes to air filter efficiency, it's important to understand the unique, measurable differences offered by genuine HEPA Filters. HEPA Air Filters undergo specific measurable testing not always required of other filter media.

Clayton, IN (PRWEB) May 17, 2007

When it comes to air filtration and air quality, there are few commercially or residentially available systems that can rival HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters and HEPA filtration systems. The difference is in what we can't see--an ability to remove 99.97% of all airborne contaminants at.3 microns and smaller in the air--a performance that's largely unmatched in non-HEPA equivalent systems.

"The HEPA difference makes all the difference when it comes to filtering particles from the air," says Dave Hearn, President of PureAir Systems, Inc. "It's important to look very closely at how an air filtration system is tested, because the smallest particles that pass through other systems are almost always caught by HEPA-based systems. And the smallest of particles are almost always the most potentially harmful to us."

Obviously, the ability to remove virtually 100 percent of harmful respirable particles from the air offers cleaner, healthier indoor air quality. Less apparent to the average consumer is how filter efficiency ratings are determined--a critical distinction and difference between what initially might seem to be similar air filters and filtration systems

HEPA air filters are the only mechanical air filters tested and certified to meet a specific efficiency at a specific particle size. All HEPA air filters must meet a minimum efficiency of 99.97% at 0.3 microns--3 millionths of a meter. Non-HEPA filters are required to provide an efficiency rating, but not necessarily a rating that is based on particle size. Since many of the respirable particles that are harmful to us are usually less than 2 microns in size, it's vital to know what size particles a filter removes from the air.

In fact, a filter that boasts 95 percent efficiency without a particle size measurement, may actually remove little, if any, of the harmful particles at 0.3 microns or fewer.

"HEPA filters are used in high-tech manufacturing, hospitals, and sterile clean rooms around the world." Hearn added, "That's the technology we bring to the table in our systems. That's the technology I want protecting my family."

Bluestream Releases XDocs 2.0, an Affordable DITA Component Content Management Solution

Bluestream Releases XDocs 2.0, an Affordable DITA Component Content Management Solution

With Bluestream XDocs 2.0 released, there is finally an end-to-end true DITA component content management solution addresses the needs of documentation and other content creators, particularly in an uncertain economy

Vancouver, BC, Canada (PRWEB) May 14, 2009

Bluestream Database Software Corp., the only provider of XML content management solutions committed to enabling all sizes and types of organizations to get the benefits of a CMS, today released Version 2.0 of its flagship product, Bluestream XDocs. The long-awaited revamp of this CCMS (component content management system) brings a new level of sophistication to this DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture) solution. The XDocs CCMS is a standards-based, true DITA CMS meant to handle the management of content components. This type of CMS is ideal for managing technical content, whether that content is destined to be published in technical documentation, training material, or a knowledge base.

Bluestream XDocs is ideal as a solution for a functional group or department, recognizing that individual departments may not have access to the infrastructure required to undertake complex and costly customizations. With most flexible pricing model on the market - an unlimited user license costs a budget-conscious $10,000 - the basic XDocs system ships with a fully configured XML editor, a PDF rendering server (XEP by RenderX), and a robust Knowledge Base Creator.

"The reputation of XDocs has been built on providing a no-nonsense, affordable package to organizations that want DITA but don't have the six-figure budgets to bring in a system filled with bells and whistles they actually don't need," said Nenad Furtula, Bluestream's VP of Sales and Marketing. "We believe that any group that has a single-sourcing need should be able to take advantage of this technology."

The XDocs system has been built with non-technical users in mind. XDocs is a single-sourcing solution that enables content contributors to create, manage, and store large volumes of both XML and non-XML content. Organizations will also get the most out of their content re-use at the publishing end, as XDocs is ideal for multi-channel publishing. Also, because XDocs has a standards-based architecture, it is also ideal for the organization that wants to customize it for non-conventional uses.

About Bluestream

Bluestream Database Software Corp. is a serious contender in the XML database and XML content management technology space. Northeast Ohio's Center for Orthopedics Now Offers Hip Resurfacing, a Bone-Saving Alternative to Hip Replacement Surgery

Northeast Ohio's Center for Orthopedics Now Offers Hip Resurfacing, a Bone-Saving Alternative to Hip Replacement Surgery

Now, the Center for Orthopedics in Sheffield Village, Ohio, offers hip resurfacing surgery to active Baby Boomers sidelined by arthritis. William B. Stanfield, MD, performs this state-of-the-art procedure to help men and women get back to the gym, dancing or the sports they love, with more freedom of movement and less chance of dislocation than hip replacement surgery.

Sheffield Village, Ohio (PRWEB) January 29, 2009

For active Baby Boomers sidelined by hip arthritis, Northeast Ohio's Center for Orthopedics now offers hip resurfacing, a new option designed to give patients the pain relief of hip replacement surgery -- without many of the drawbacks.

Few U. S. orthopedic surgeons are trained to perform hip resurfacing surgery. "Hip resurfacing is relatively new in the United States, though it's been done in Europe for more than 10 years," says William B. Stanfield, MD, medical director of The Center for Orthopedics, just west of Cleveland. Dr. Stanfield, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in joint replacement and sports medicine, has been performing hip resurfacing surgery since 2007.

"Hip resurfacing reshapes the head of the thighbone or femur and resurfaces it with a cobalt chromium metal cap -- much like capping a tooth," Dr. Stanfield explains. "The femoral head is resurfaced -- preserving most of the bone -- rather than removing and replacing it as in hip replacement surgery.

In hip resurfacing, a metal cup replaces the damaged surface of the hip socket without the use of bone cement for fixation. The resurfaced thighbone is almost identical to the size of the natural bone, resulting in a better fit inside the hip socket than in total hip replacement. This gives patients greater stability and more-natural hip performance.

"Resurfacing is often a good choice for younger patients, as it allows them to have a much more active lifestyle afterwards than hip replacement surgery," Dr. Stanfield explains. "Preserving more of the natural bone is also important if patients need more hip surgery in the future."

Hip replacement surgery has become very popular. In 2006, 482,000 Americans had a total or partial hip replacement, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- but it imposes many restrictions on patients' physical movement.

Orthopedic surgeons caution hip replacement patients not to cross their legs, raise their knees to less than a right angle to their torso, or turn their feet excessively inward or outward. Forgetting these restrictions even once can lead to an excruciatingly painful hip dislocation -- and may necessitate further surgery.

"Hip resurfacing isn't for every patient with hip arthritis," Dr. Stanfield advises, "but it can be a wise choice for active patients under age 65 who have good bone quality and suffer from arthritis."

Case in point: fire battalion chief John Yatson, age 51.

"The arthritis pain in my hip was keeping me awake at night," Yatson recalls. "I went for a few months straight where I got only two or three hours of sleep a night. That's when I decided to get something done.

"When my orthopedist looked at the x-ray of my hip, he said I'd be a good candidate for hip resurfacing," says Yatson. After considering his options, he decided to have his hip resurfaced rather than replaced.

"I went in the hospital on a Monday morning, was up on my feet the next day with the aid of a walker, and went home on Thursday afternoon," says Yatson. He participated in a course of physical therapy after surgery to help restore his normal movement.

"Now I'm pain-free," he says. "I have no restrictions -- that's what sold me on hip resurfacing. I'm even jogging a couple of times a week. When I'm ready to get the other hip done, I won't hesitate."

Yatson is very glad he didn't have a total hip replacement. "A guy I know had a total hip replacement, and he dislocated his hip once while playing golf," he recalls. "I think if someone has the option of hip resurfacing as opposed to a total hip replacement, resurfacing is definitely the way to go.

"Now I don't even give a thought to my hip," says Yatson.

For more information about hip resurfacing, visit http://www. center4orthopedics. com/hip_resurfacing or call the Center for Orthopedics at 440.329.2800.

The Center for Orthopedics, part of EMH Regional Healthcare System, offers the most comprehensive bone and joint care in Cleveland's west side, western Cuyahoga County and Lorain County, Ohio. Complete orthopedic care is available from an expert team of five advance-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeons at offices in Sheffield Village, Oberlin and Westlake, Ohio. Www. capitalHunter. com was able to verify that $537 million of venture capital was invested in 34 U. S.-based companies during this weekÂ’s reporting period. The average deal size was approximately 15.79 million. The amount of venture capital invested this period increased by 289% compared to last periods $138 million.

Geographically, California led the way with eleven deals worth $253 million, representing almost half (46%) of this reporting periods funding. However, one company, FiberTower, accounted for more than half of this amount (more on that later). Other companies in California that raised money this reporting period include Posit Science, a provider of neurological health programs that raised $14.52 million in Series B financing, and LGC Wireless, a producer of in-building wireless voice/data coverage and capacity solutions for wireless and Internet use that received $11 million in late stage mezzanine financing. Utah had a good week, raising $57 million and trailed only California in regional funding this reporting period. The rest of the funding was evenly spread out among the usual suspects, including Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington and others.

The IT Services sector raised 30% of the venture capital this reporting period, for a total of $163 million. However, only two companies were part of this funding due to the fact that FiberTower raised an astonishing $150 million, which is the second largest funding this year, topped only by the $200 million Series E funding Vonage raised earlier this year. Software, the perennial leader in venture funding, raised 20% of the funding this reporting period with $107.25, while healthcare related companies (biotechnology, medical devices and health-related facilities) also did very well, raising a total of $139.4 million despite the poor market for biotech public offerings (though CryoCor went public last week, see above)

Late stage financing received the most dollars (again, due to the $150 million raised by FiberTower) with $212 million, but the number of early stage companies receiving financing continued to be strong, as thirteen companies raised a first round of financing and ten more companies raised a second round, meaning that about two-thirds on the reported deals this week were in early or relatively early stage companies. Only five companies accounted for the $212 million late stage capital raised this period, and FiberTower was responsible for most of that. Other notable late financings include Motricity, a Durham, NC based provider of mobile content that raised $30 million, and Vitae Pharmaceuticals, who is currently working with GlaxoSmithKline to develop novel renin inhibitor drug compounds for the treatment of hypertension and related cardiovascular disorders, raised $15 million.

The three largest venture deals this period are as follows:

1 FiberTower IT Services $150 million

2 Omniture Software $40 million

3 Centerre Healthcare Healthcare Services $30 million

The following thirteen and other unnamed investors funded the above mentioned top three venture capital investments for $220 million:

1 Attractor Investment Management

2 BA Venture Partners

3 Baird Venture Partners

4 Crown Castle International

5 Goldman Sachs

6 Hummer Winblad Venture Partners

7 Meritech Capital Partners

8 Oak Investment Partners

9 Pacific Venture Group

10 River Cities Capital Funds

11 RiverVest Venture Partners

12 Sterling Venture Partners

13 Tudor Investments

A total of 87 equity financings of private and public companies occurred during this reporting period. Each of the 87 equity financings are profiled in a weekly report which include venture financings, private placements, secondary offerings, PIPEÂ’s, and IPOÂ’s.

STORMY ECONOMY? CLEAR INK SEES CLEAR SKIES. Interactive Firm Growing and Thriving in new Berkeley Location

STORMY ECONOMY? CLEAR INK SEES CLEAR SKIES. Interactive Firm Growing and Thriving in new Berkeley Location

Interactive Firm, Clear Ink Growing and Thriving in new Berkeley Location: details of account activity.

(PRWEB) October 11, 2002

Berkeley, California, October 7, 2002

Amidst bleak headlines of economic doldrums, Clear Ink, an Internet strategy, technology and design firm, is experiencing solid growth and profitability. David Burk, President/CEO, says the direction of the firm is straightforward, “Our message of rational and effective programs for Internet marketers has struck a chord. Our track record of high ROI, combined with outstanding service supplied by talented people, has meant steady success.”

Clear InkÂ’s clients depend on them to build websites and Internet-based marketing programs that serve their customers, advance their business goals, and demonstrate a solid return on investment. The firmÂ’s offering supports marketing professionals in every aspect of electronic marketing.

Burk and Steve Nelson, founders of Clear Ink Corporation in 1995, grew the company into–and out of–a large integrated communications firm. In 2001, they decided to launch again, have since purchased back the Clear Ink name, and have added new staff, new clients and new services.

Clear Ink clients have responded to the current economic climate by investing in more efficient and more profitable online marketing initiatives:

§ John Muir Mount Diablo Health SystemÂ’s second generation web site went live in July, 2002. Located at http://www. johnmuirmtdiablo. com (http://www. johnmuirmtdiablo. com), the new and improved website emphasizes their comprehensive array of advanced technological and clinical programs and services. It uses an enhanced information architecture that eases the userÂ’s navigation throughout the site. Extensive user testing throughout the design process validated the new direction. According to Deborah Droker, Director of Marketing and Business Development, "Clear Ink has provided our organization with outstanding client services ranging from technical expertise to responsive account support on all matters key to maintaining an effective website. Their staff and leadership are professional, knowledgeable and client-centered."

§ A. G. Ferrari Foods has successfully launched a new, expansive e-commerce site http://www. agferrari. com/ (http://www. agferrari. com/) The redesigned site, launched in August of this year, displays more products, anticipates growth and has a killer information architecture for foodies, in which they can literally slice and dice their pastas. A straightforward administrative interface allows A. G. Ferrari to add products, change pricing, make special offers, link to recipes and related products and more. A. G. FerrariÂ’s Director of Web Development Adrienne Deangelo, “The project proceeded on schedule and within budget, and the Clear Ink team allowed us to bring our vision of the website to life. I am happy to have Clear Ink as an ongoing partner in e-Commerce."

§ Clear Ink continues as interactive agency of record for 21st Century Insurance http://www.21st. com/ (http://www.21st. com/) Clear Ink is responsible for customer attention and conversion and is reporting impressive success rates such as an average quarterly year over year increase in online auto insurance quotes of 122% through Q2 this year. From May 2002 through September 2002, success has continued. The cost of acquiring a customer was reduced by 66%, and conversion rates have almost doubled. Innovative strategies, attention-getting creative, and comprehensive analysis are the basis of our work with 21st. com. “Clear Ink has been hitting home runs since we retained them. The performance of our programs continue to increase, and the level of service is still great. In fact, September was our best month ever in the Internet channel! It's not often you find people like these that immerse themselves in your problem and actively propose innovations", said Tad Benson, Internet Marketing Manager at 21st Century Insurance.

§ Partnering with Amazon Advertising of San Francisco, Clear Ink has developed the online launch of an exciting new Internet music device for a major consumer electronics company. Banners, email, an online sweepstakes, and a Flash-based interactive product pitch were all part of the engagement.

§ Clear Ink has also been hired by Petz Enterprises, Inc. http://www. petzent. com/ (http://www. petzent. com/) to spearhead the re-design, user testing and online marketing of their Taxbrain Online Tax Center. The growing area of web services is one that has been targeted for growth by Clear Ink. Petz Enterprises, a long-standing leader in the delivery of software solutions for the professional tax industry, hired Clear Ink to transition the Online Tax Center from its pilot design to a commercial-grade eCommerce site. "We've been impressed with Clear Ink's understanding of the engineering, marketing and application design issues involved with our service. Planning and execution have been first rate, and the quality of their creative work has consistently exceeded our expectations." said Craig Petz, Vice President of Marketing.

About Clear Ink

In 1995 Clear Ink Corporation was founded to deliver on a promise to make Internet programs more effective for the customers they serve. In September 2001, the founders left the corporation as it was winding down operations, relaunched and reincorporated their partnership, and have reacquired the name “Clear Ink”. For over seven years, clients have depended on the principals to build websites and marketing programs that serve their customers, advance their business goals, and demonstrate return on investment. Current clients include Petz Enterprises, Inc. (Taxbrain), 21st Century Insurance, A. G. Ferrari Foods, John Muir/Mt. Diablo Health System and others. Activists Raise Alarm for Senior Safety, Deliver Fire Extinguishers to Atria Willow Park

Activists Raise Alarm for Senior Safety, Deliver Fire Extinguishers to Atria Willow Park

Assisted living facility has history of fire citations, failures in emergency evacuations.

Tyler, TX (Vocus) December 10, 2007

Are our local seniors safe at Atria Senior Living? That’s what members of the Campaign to Improve Assisted Living and SEIU Healthcare were asking after learning that Atria’s Willow Park facility in Tyler has been cited numerous times for placing residents in situations that make their safe evacuation in an emergency difficult. To raise the alarm over safety problems, members of the Campaign delivered fire extinguishers to the facility on Sunday, Dec. 9. They also requested a meeting with the Executive Director to discuss the facility’s fire evacuation problems.

Atria operates two facilities in Tyler: Atria Willow Park and Atria Copeland. In violation of state regulations, Atria Willow Park has a consistent pattern of retaining seniors who could not quickly evacuate the facility in case of an emergency. Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) regulators cited the facility in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 for housing residents who would be at risk, including those who:

Lived on the third floor, but could not walk. Required the assistance of 2 staff people to transfer out of a chair. Could not make it to a central area on the ground floor within 13 minutes if needed. Would not have been able to self-evacuate in an emergency.

According to public records from the DADS, instead of immediately fixing these safety issues, the facility asked for a waiver from state requirements to allow them to continue housing these seniors and collecting rent payments. For several, Atria failed to correct the hazardous conditions and the state rejected the request.

The Campaign has submitted a letter to the Fire Marshal requesting action to protect seniors in Tyler.

In addition to emergency safety failures, Atria’s Tyler facilities have been cited by DADS for medication errors and unsanitary conditions in the kitchen that increased the risk for food-borne illness. Atria Copeland was also fined $600 by state regulators for refusing to produce internal documents on incidents in which residents were harmed.

These problems are systemic to Atria Senor Living nationwide, and the company has been fined more than 1,000 times for serious patient care problems.

Atria Senior Living is one of the largest senior living providers in the country, with more than 140 facilities in 27 states. They are headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and owned by an investment fund affiliated with Lazard, a large Wall Street firm that manages more than $140 billion globally.

More details at www. improveassistedliving. org.

The Campaign to Improve Assisted Living is an SEIU Healthcare campaign that unites assisted living caregivers with residents, family members, and senior advocates to stand for quality services for seniors and a voice on the job for caregivers. More than one million healthcare workers in hospitals, nursing homes, and in-home care have united in SEIU Healthcare for quality care and quality jobs.

Evantage Consulting Patient & Caregiver Research Suggests PHR’s Meet Limited Needs for Patients with Chronic Conditions

Evantage Consulting Patient & Caregiver Research Suggests PHR’s Meet Limited Needs for Patients with Chronic Conditions

Evantage Consulting presented new research about the adoption of Personal Health Records (PHR’s) at the Midwest HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) meeting in Minneapolis, MN.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) October 20, 2010

Evantage Consulting presented new research about the adoption of Personal Health Records (PHR’s) at the Midwest HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) meeting in Minneapolis, MN.

Evantage Senior User Experience Consultant and principal researcher, Sheetal Dube, presented findings from research conducted with PHR users who have chronic health conditions and their caregivers. Patients with chronic conditions are perceived as one group who could substantially benefit from increased PHR use. According to Ms. Dube, “While many research studies have asked patients and consumers why they DON’T use a PHR, Evantage’s research focused on patients and caregivers who are using a PHR to understand how it benefits them.”

Evantage’s research consisted of interviews with older patients with chronic health conditions and their caregivers. Ms Dube summarized the key findings from the research as suggesting that the majority of patients and caregivers utilize multiple tools to track and manage their health information including: spreadsheets, cell phones and calendars. Several patients or their caregivers created extensive spreadsheets to track and monitor health conditions and progress over time. “We also found some PHR users limit the type of information they maintain in a PHR because of their concerns about who could access the information.”

“Overall, we found typical caregivers or patients using a PHR were utilizing less than 25% of its features. We observed that the complexity of the PHR’s combined with data security concerns actually shifted some participants toward more use of spreadsheets to maintain their information,” Ms Dube said.

The research findings suggest that PHR designers would benefit from designing interfaces reflecting the diversity of patients with chronic conditions and their caregivers in mind. According to Ms Dube, simplification of the interface combined with offering visual display of trend information would improve adoption of PHR’s. “Without these improvements it will be difficult for many caregivers and patients to view PHR’s as more than a data storage facility.”

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, "if you live in a home in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Southeast Texas, South Georgia built, or remodeled since 2001-you have had numerous AC coil failures, or electrical issues, and some or all of the family are sick with upper respiratory issues, nose bleeds, or unexplainable rashes-we want to hear from you now." The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is expanding its hours to seven days a week, 9 AM to 10 PM, in the hopes they can help identify as many Knauf Chinese drywall homes as possible. The group is saying, "for the record, we are convinced there are at least 100,000+ US homes with Knauf Chinese drywall-tragically the Federal Court in New Orleans has only identified less than 4000 homeowners. We are trying to get these homeowners identified, because we really believe Knauf will settle. If you live in a subdivision known to have toxic Chinese drywall, please share this with your neighbors." The group is also blasting President Obama for not mentioning the toxic Chinese drywall disaster one time in public-since taking office---even though he has known about it-and even though this disaster involves 100,000's of innocent US homeowners, and their families. For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center anytime at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

Washington, DC (Vocus) June 1, 2010

Out of fear the manufacturer of a specific type imported toxic Chinese drywall called Knauf may be the only type of drywall made in China, that will settle with US homeowners in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Southeast Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, or other US States, the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is dramatically intensifying its efforts to get effected homeowners in these states with Chinese Knauf drywall identified. The group is saying,"we need to identify all homeowners, in the US Southeast who have a specific type of toxic Chinese drywall called Knauf & we need to do it now. We are now working on this seven days a week, in the hopes we can identify as many people as possible-before time runs out. This is a super big deal." The group is also saying, "we fear there could be 100,000 plus Knauf Chinese drywall homeowners in the US Southeast alone-yet the Federal Court in New Orleans has only identified about 4000 homeowners. If you live in a subdivision where Knauf Chinese drywall has been discovered please call us and we will do everything possible to alert your neighbors about this critical issue & the very short time left to get identified." For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center anytime at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

But isn't the Obama Administration doing everything possible to help US homeowners now living in a toxic home because of toxic Chinese drywall? The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says, "the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill-now officially the worst oil spill in US history is not the Obama Administrations first astonishing failure to respond to a national disaster. The Obama Administration's response to toxic Chinese drywall has been negligent, and they act like they either do not want to talk about it-or their are afraid of offending the Chinese-either way 100,000's of US Homeowners in the US Southeast have been abandoned by Washington, DC." The group says,"even worse than Obama's lack of interest in toxic Chinese drywall-the US Consumer Products Safety Commission has miserably failed 100,000's of US homeowners with their lack of information, the US Centers for Disease Control has failed to alert health care professionals about how to treat homeowners, and their families suffering with toxic Chinese drywall exposure related issues, & the US EPA has been no where to be found." The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center says,"most astonishing of all-it was recently discovered that a major Florida homebuilding supply company colluded with a Chinese drywall maker to conceal the facts about toxic Chinese drywall four years ago-&-the Obama Administration has yet to launch a federal criminal probe? What's wrong with this picture?" Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

Symptoms of toxic Chinese drywall in homes in Louisiana, North Florida, Central Florida, South Florida, South Carolina, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Virginia, or Southeast Texas include: repeated air conditioning coil failures, within two years of the home being built. In addition to air conditioning coil failures, toxic Chinese drywall in the US Southeast may cause appliance failures, light bulbs burning out prematurely, copper turning black, combined with all, or some of the family are experiencing seemingly never ending upper respiratory issues, nose bleeds, severe headaches, unexplained very unusual rashes, especially in the late spring, or summer. The time frame for toxic Chinese drywall in the US Southeast is 2001-to early 2009. The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is saying, “We think the worst effects of toxic Chinese drywall in the US Southeast occur in from mid April—mid October because of high heat combined with high thresholds of humidity.” For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center anytime at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

The Chinese Drywall Complaint Center is also saying, "aside from the New Orleans & Baton Rouge metro areas, we are super worried about Knauf Chinese drywall in major subdivisions in Northern Florida, all of Louisiana, all of Alabama, all of Mississippi, and all of Southeast Texas (Houston & Austin Metro Areas)." For more information please contact the Chinese Drywall Complaint Center at 866-714-6466, or contact the group via its web site at Http://ChineseDrywallComplaintCenter. Com

New Jersey Hospital Protects Patient Safety with Advanced Pharmacy Automation Solution

New Jersey Hospital Protects Patient Safety with Advanced Pharmacy Automation Solution

Swisslog's PillPick automated drug management system revolutionized the way hospital pharmacy prepares, dispenses and returns medications.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 9, 2009

For more than 80 years, Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, N. J., has provided healthcare excellence, compassionate medical and nursing care, and introduced technological advances in patient care. Continuing with its tradition of "first-rate patient care," Holy Name Hospital installed Swisslog's PillPick® automated drug management system.

The PillPick automated drug management system reduces medication errors by limiting the number of hands each dose must pass through to get to the patient. PillPick dispenses over 5,000 unit doses daily to Holy Name's 360 beds. The PillPick system's integrated components automate packaging, dispensing and storage while minimizing human intervention. The packaging modules prepare unit doses from bulk stock, and can over-wrap vials, cups, ampoules, syringes and blisters.

PillPick's DrugNest storage module at Holy Name is designed to hold 35,520 unit doses with expansion capabilities of up to 44,400 unit doses. The doses are simultaneously stored and dispensed into first doses and cart fill, streamlining the inventory management process. The patented PickRing assembles unit doses onto a flexible ring for 24-hour patient administration, cassette fill or for dispensing cabinet restocking. At Holy Name, bulk tablets and capsules are loaded into PillPick and packaged into unit dose bar-coded bags. Unit doses are then assembled into PickRings for patient administration. The rings are stored in a carousel, handpicked and delivered to the patient.

Since its installation in September 2007, Holy Name's PillPick drug management system revolutionized the way the pharmacy prepares, dispenses, and returns medications. Pharmacy Director, Rosario Lazzaro, MS, RP said, "Our CEO wants a 'just-in-time' delivery of the most current medications to the patients, with Swisslog's PillPick system, we are getting closer!" Before dispensing to the patient, both the dose and the patient's identification bracelet are scanned to ensure they are receiving the proper medication. Holy Name has seen fewer medication dosage mistakes due to this bar-coding technology.

Automated Exercise Measurement is Key to Jump-Starting Employee Wellness Programs

Automated Exercise Measurement is Key to Jump-Starting Employee Wellness Programs

Of all the employee wellness benefits available today, exercise is the beachhead component that can jumpstart the wellness virtuous spiral. MYTRAK Health has developed a human 'Performance Index' (PI), a cardinal number between 0 – 1,000, as a universal but simple measurement of individuals' fitness states. Exercise is a well documented preventive of many diseases. By exercising in a prescribed zone, individuals can improve their PI which serves as an accurate predictor of down-the-road wellness and dramatically reduced health costs…something of equal appeal to employers and insurers.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) June 20, 2006

To curtail spiraling health care costs, progressive employers are looking to implement more preventive measures among their employee populations to mitigate, or even avoid, the occurrence of debilitating and costly diseases. Obesity and sedentary lifestyles are isolated as two of the leading causes of many serious diseases which were labeled by the U. S. Surgeon General as "preventable."

Exercise has been touted by public and private authorities alike to be an effective preventative against many diseases and conditions ranging from heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and stroke. It also mitigates mental afflictions such as Alzheimer's, dementia, depression, and even anxiety.

According to Phil Trotter of MYTRAK Health, "It obviously behooves insurers and employers to encourage employee adoption of healthy lifestyles and total wellness programs to reduce costs, especially with the aging boomers. The challenge becomes how do you jump-start it with individuals who perhaps have been overweight, smoked, and never exercised their entire lives? Technology now makes it possible for exercisers to 'look under the hood' after each exercise session and actually see the positive benefits just derived. This gets them jazzed to keep going and, in time, pursue other wellness programs."

Exercise Is The Starting Point of a Virtuous Wellness Spiral

The reason why exercise was slow to be adopted by the deconditioned population segment is that there was too much latency between the investment in exercise and its subsequent benefit. Although there may have been improvement in intrinsic health, the lack of immediate visual proof such as weight loss or muscle tone tends to be a drag on people sticking with the program.

But those that do get over the initial "hump" start to gain strength and energy and want to keep going. After exercise gets installed as a regular lifestyle habit, they next desire to adopt other wellness components such as weight loss, smoking cessation, or perhaps a nutrition program. This starts an upward spiral, the more benefit they derive from a wellness program, the better they feel, and they seek to adopt more.

Additionally, employers benefit through increased productivity, a drop in sick time and absenteeism, and perhaps what keeps most benefits administrators up at night, finally a pro active program to reduce health insurance costs.

A New Automated Standard of Measurement for "Fitness State"

"The challenge is that not all exercise has equal significance upon human health", said Reed Hanoun, founder and inventor of MYTRAK, "The true benefit is derived not from exercise, per se, but from optimal exercise. Simply stated, optimal exercise carries components of proper exertion and being progressive. And, most first-time exercisers do neither. "

Given the plethora of exercise modalities, devices, and machines, a universal measurement standard is required to give a simple but meaningful indicator of the outcome of exercise to an individual's body. Hanoun's team worked on the problem for 3 years and finally devised the Human Performance Index, commonly referred to as the PI.

"The PI is an index that is a measure of a person's fitness state", explains Hanoun, "It is a composite of strength, endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular conditioning. It has been designed to be a vital interface between the biomechanics of exercise and a meaningful metric for trainers and health care professionals to use in concert with other biometrics. The PI adds the hitherto missing data on a person's fitness state to the total health representation."

A Leading Indicator of Downstream Health

Many advanced health clubs have been gathering biometric data for years, such as BMI, blood pressure, and the like. But these are effects and not causes. Since exercise is leading prevention, the PI which measures fitness state thus becomes a leading health indicator of what's to be expected in future months and years.

As a person improves their PI or fitness state today, the odds are extremely high they'll enjoy better health, and less health care costs, tomorrow.

"But most importantly", added Hanoun, "It's totally automated, a gym's computers can communicate directly to a health provider's or employer's computers and thus relieve the burden of paperwork. That's what will finally facilitate the much badly desired rebates based on verifiable levels of fitness achievement."

A Currency Of Exchange Between Exercise Achievers And Payers

"With the PI standard, employers and health insurers can now establish benchmark goals for their employees / insured’s", concluded Trotter, "The improvement in PI levels by the employees will result in reductions in downstream health care costs and their associated health insurance costs."

About MYTRAK Health

MYTRAK Health with offices in Denver, Co and Toronto Canada, has developed an advanced automated exercise coaching, data collection, and reporting system that both motivates people to exercise in their optimal zones, and provides metric data for analysis by employers and health insurance companies. The firm has advanced technology that can measure any form of exercise and provide analytic data to employers and health insurers.
