Maine Governor John E. Baldacci has announced the appointment of Donato J. Tramuto to the Maine Economic Growth Council, a board charged with developing and evaluating the long-term economic growth plan for the state of Maine.
Tramuto, who serves as CEO and Vice Chairman of health care technology company Physicians Interactive Holdings LLC, is a resident of Ogunquit, Maine, where he is also an investor in several Ogunquit businesses, creating full - or part-time jobs for 75 employees. He also serves as the chairman of the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Ogunquit. Tramuto has been widely recognized as a distinguished visionary in the fields of health care and health information technology.
"I am pleased to appoint Donato Tramuto to the Maine Economic Growth Council," said Governor John Baldacci. "His experience in creating jobs and successfully launching new companies will be critical in helping the Council think creatively about moving Maine's economy forward. He's always had an eye on the future and a commitment to our state that will be extremely beneficial for Maine's economy in the long term."
The non-partisan Maine Economic Growth Council was created in 1993 to develop a plan for the state's economic growth and create benchmarks to assess Maine's progress. The Council includes 19 members who are appointed by the Governor, Senate President and Speaker of the House and represent voices from government, business, education, labor, and the environment. Each year the Council releases the Measures of Growth report on the Maine economy to inform the public, policymakers, and business leaders both in and outside of Maine.
"Nothing is more important to the future of the state of Maine than growing our economy in smart, effective, date-driven ways," Tramuto said. "I feel truly privileged to be part of the Maine Economic Growth Council, which provides both insight and accountability in tracking the state's progress in creating jobs and attracting businesses to Maine."
Tramuto brings to the Council more than 30 years of health care experience. Currently, he leads Physicians Interactive Holdings, the leading provider of health care information and mobile clinical decision tools to medical professionals across the U. S. and around the world. Previously, Tramuto served as CEO of i3, a global pharmaceutical services company that is part of Ingenix (a UnitedHealth Group Company). He was co-founder of Protocare, Inc., a large provider of drug development services, and corporate Vice President of Marketing/Healthcare at Caremark, where he helped create the company's first disease management program for HIV/AIDS.
Tramuto recently was named to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights Leadership Council. In 2001, he founded the Donato J. Tramuto Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to help disadvantaged youth reach their educational goals. Tramuto also serves on the Duke University Fuqua Health Care Advisory Board, the board of Regis College, and as Vice Chairman of the Physicians Interactive Board.
