Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) May 23, 2008
MC Strategies, a leader in e-learning solutions for healthcare professionals, today announced the launch of a new online Emergency Nursing Triage course that has been developed in collaboration with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). The ENA: Emergency Nursing Triage online course, edited by Jeff Solheim, RN, BRE, CEN, CFRN, an expert in emergency nursing triage, is targeted to emergency nurses new to triage, as well as to those with experience, for orientation and continuing education. Additionally, nurses will have the opportunity to earn up to 17.4 continuing nursing education contact hours through Mosby's Office of Nursing Continuing Education.*
Triage is a process of prioritizing patients based on the severity of their condition so as to treat as many as possible when resources are insufficient for all to be treated immediately. While the ENA supports a 5-level triage system, this course is meant to be used by any organization no matter which triage system is in place.
"The Emergency Nursing Triage course provides the foundation for building triage skills to help nurses intervene with competence and confidence for any patient in any emergency department", says Cindy Tryniszewski, RN, MSN, Executive Director, Clinical e-Learning, MC Strategies.
Jeff Solheim said, "Unlike other triage programs which provide generic instruction, this course provides typical and atypical patient presentations to help prevent undertriaging and overtriaging. The course also has exercises that nurses can print and review with preceptors so that it's applicable to each individual institution."
The Emergency Nursing Triage course consists of 18 online lessons that cover basic triage concepts, special situations, and chief complaints. Each lesson is rich in multimedia elements, such as slide shows, flashcards, and audio elements. The course also includes such interactive learning activities as line matching, true/false, and case studies with multiple choice questions to help learners engage with the content while testing their knowledge.
As an added bonus, the Emergency Nursing Triage course includes access to the Alcohol Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Toolkit, which focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to successfully implement alcohol SBIRT in the emergency setting.
