Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers - Fish for the Future
GLASGOW, U. K. (PRWEB) October 23, 2005
At a meeting in Glasgow on Friday 14th October the Scottish Federation of Sea Anglers laid the foundations for a new forward looking strategy, based around central themes of conservation, communication and education.
In the past the SFSA has been seen as an organisation that only had an interest in the management of match angling in Scotland; an accusation that the executive recognises has had some foundation in reality. The SFSA will continue its vital role within match fishing in Scotland, however there will now be much greater emphasis on other areas as identified above.
It is self-evident that without fish in our seas there is no future for sea angling; without a forward looking, proactive conservation policy the future for fish stocks in our seas looks bleak. Therefore with immediate effect it has been decided to form a new committee dedicated to formulating comprehensive conservation policies, and campaigning in co-operation with other interested organisations, to have those policies implemented by the Scottish Executive, the UK Government and the EU.
As a first step along this road the SFSA seeks representation at the Scottish Inshore Fisheries Advisory Group (SIFAG), and recognition by the Scottish Executive as a significant stakeholder in inshore fisheries matters (as already recognised by the UK Government and the EU).
The SFSA looks forward to working with any other group committed to a future in which healthy sea fish stocks can be exploited in a sustainable manner, whether for commercial recreational or other purposes.
