Truly a rags-to-riches heroine, Jan M. Edwards was the eldest of six children, born into a poor family in West Virginia. Determined to succeed, she moved to Washington D. C. when she was only 18 years of age. There, she met and married her husband and worked her way from the typing pool at American Express to become the Executive Assistant for the Senior Vice President of the Greensboro, North Carolina Operations Center.
