While fourteen homeless people died nationwide from dehydration in the summer, and nationwide defense spending rose 44 percent, Bret Bocook and his team at the Angels Camp, a proposed Homeless Shelter in Washington, DC are raising awareness and funds for homelessness through pixel advertising and other innovative programs at www. AngelsCampOnline. com
According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition Budget Process Presentation (February, 2006), defense, homeland security and international affairs account for 72 percent of federal spending from 2001 to 2005, which reflects a 9.5 percent growth rate. Alternatively, between 2001 and 2005, the average growth rate for domestic discretionary programs was only 1.9 percent, a figure that fails to keep up with inflation. Additionally, the President's 2007 budget proposal increases defense spending by 6 percent while eliminating 141 programs totaling $15 billion in cuts.
Over 300billion dollars of hard earned tax payer dollars has already been spent in Iraq so far.
Even more concerning is the projected total cost of the war totaling over “A Trillion Dollars” based on what a recent study by Nobel Prize winning economist at Columbia University, and Linda Bilmes at Harvard, estimate the “true costs” of the war that includes direct and indirect cost the US will have to shoulder for years.
Bret Bocook, a successful real estate developer and attorney, has a breakthrough design for a state of the art homeless shelter in Washington, DC that is an environementally and economically sustainable solution which will also be reproduced in other cities nationwide. Bocook has fully developed the concept and plans for AngelsCamp and is working on getting the funds to operate this 15 acre, $40 million dollar homeless comprehensive care facility. With so many federal cutbacks, Bocook's business expertise has been essential in developing ideas to raise the money needed to make AngelsCamp a reality.
AngelsCamp will address mental illness, drug abuse and alcoholism while teaching living skills and personal financial management. By running small businesses in the facility, such, such as a commercial printing shop and car wash, (see plan full site plan at angelscampomnline. com)the homeless will be able to earn money as they learn important business skills. A portion of this money will be put aside so that the resident can pay for housing upon completion of the program. The AngelsCamp shelter will also provide much-needed, modern medical and dental facilities to address the health issues facing the homeless due to weather exposure and neglect.
Housing needs are equally important in the summer as in the winter to protect the needy against the elements. In 2005, two homeless people froze to death in Washington, DC alone – an unnecessary condition that can be prevented by procuring additional funds to assist the homeless now.
Bocook states that, “I find it appalling, as I am sure you do as well, that here in the nations capital, the wealthiest nation on earth, 9 people have frozen to death on the streets of DC in just the last several years; and that there over 14,000 homeless people in the DC region, many of them children on the street on any given night. Many more people have died across the country due to exposure to elements, and other problems associated with Homelessness.”
Exposure to the elements can cause hypothermia or dehydration which can result in death if left untreated. Raising funds is necessary to create the AngelsCamp facility, which will sleep 500 people per night, as well as provide medical attention, counseling, schooling for children and business education and opportunities for adults.
Bret Bocook and his team are obtaining the necessary funds by selling pixel ads on their website (www. AngelsCampPixelads. com). The online pixel ads will be placed over a background of the architectural plans for the proposed Angels Camp site in Washington, DC. The ads can be purchased in square blocks known as “pixels” that show the logo of the purchaser along with a link to their website. The concept combined with the ads are causng the web site to be swamped with 1000’s of visitors a day, and that is expected to grow even further giving the ad buyers tremendous exposure and a tax write off as well.
Bocook stated, “When I heard about the Million Dollar Homepage and the idea of pixel advertising, I knew it was a perfect fit for Angels Camp.” He adds, “...pixel donors will not only receive a tax write equal to their contribution, but the donor will also receive a substantial marketing platform on the web to drive potential clients to the donors web site, and illustrate that the company being featured on the pixel advertisement is a consciousness and contributing corporate citizen.”
Angels Camp is also raising funds by accepting donations of cash, used cars or real estate, all of which are 100 percent tax deductible which can be doanted at angelscamponline. com as well..
One of the most impressive features about Angels Camp, according to Bocook, is that once the facilities are in place, much of the the operating costs are covered by the shelter's businesses which also act as job training for the residents. He states, “That's part of why Angels Camp is such a great investment for our country.”
The first Angels Camp facilities will be located in Washington, DC and Sacramento/Bay Area, CA and are to be completed by 2008. The facilities themselves shall be run as non-profits. Once the facilities are established, they will be self-sustaining and serve as models for additional facilities across the nation that will house and assist countless homeless people.
