AlaVie Fitness to Host Avon Breast Cancer Boot Camp
AlaVie Fitness, an award-winning health and fitness company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, is sponsoring a boot camp workout to benefit the Avon Foundation for Breast Cancer on Saturday, May 30.
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) May 7, 2009
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women - and it's also the most common cancer among American women, except for skin cancers.
Joining in the fight against this deadly disease, AlaVie Fitness (http://www. alaviefitness. com (http://www. alaviefitness. com)) is sponsoring a boot camp class fundraiser for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, May 30 at 9:00am at Central Middle School in San Carlos.
For AlaVie co-founders Heather Glenn and Mary Beth Gonzales, who both lost their mothers to cancer within the last two years. this latest fundraiser is a continuation of their efforts to remember their loved ones and help others embrace a healthy lifestyle.
"Starting AlaVie Fitness was a direct response to watching my parents suffer because of their poor health," Gonzales said, "I knew I didn't want to go through what they did - and I didn't want others to, either."
There is no charge to take part in this special AlaVie Boot Camp session for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, and men and women of all ages and fitness levels are welcome. However, AlaVie is requesting that attendees make a donation to the Avon Foundation via cash or check (made out to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer) on the day of the workout.
One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to the Avon Foundation, which provides grants to local, regional and national breast cancer organizations to support five areas of the breast cancer cause, including: awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research.
