Hispanic Workers Record Highest Fatal Injury Rate of Any Racial/Ethnic Group
Hispanic Workers Record Highest Fatal Injury Rate of Any Racial/Ethnic Group. BLR launches 7-Minute Safety Trainer - Spanish Edition for fast and effective safety training of this important but often neglected group.
Old Saybrook, CT (PRWEB) December 8, 2004
The figures are in from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and they are not good for the nationÂs 17.5 million Hispanic workers. While long-term workplace injury and fatality trends continue to decline for American workers, Hispanics experience the highest rate of fatal injuries of all reported racial/ethnic groups  4.5 per 100,000 workers in 2003. This compares to a rate of 4.0 in the working population at large.
The nationÂs workplace safety agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, couldnÂt be clearer on this issue: ÂOSHA is Âcommitted to protecting the health and safety of our nationÂs diverse Hispanic workforce. So, safety managers must train every worker in their organizations to protect themselves against workplace hazards. Or face the music in terms of fines and negative publicity.
For employers the obstacles to training their Hispanic workers are enormous  many do not understand English well enough to be trained in that language, and most safety managers do not speak Spanish well enough to train workers in that language. There is also a shortage of effective Spanish-language training materials on key OSHA training topics.
To solve these problems, Business and Legal Reports Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of its 7-Minute Safety Trainer  Spanish edition. This new safety handbook provides 54 instant safety meetings on key OSHA-required topics. Each meeting has been carefully researched by BLRÂs safety editors and outside practitioners. The ready-to-go training package features a learning goal, brief discussion points, a quiz, and an illustrated and reproducible handout that summarizes key training points.
With tens of thousands of the English version of this practical training manual in use, BLR has now made both the handouts and the quizzes available in Spanish.
ÂProviding effective training for Spanish speaking workers is a huge problem, said BLR President and founder Bob Brady. ÂWe are extremely pleased to be able to provide a resource that helps protect this important group of workers.Â
