The Wise Woman Center in Woodstock, NY, is home to a great variety of plant life. It is also home to Susun Weed, world renowned herbalist and author and a spokesperson for the Wise Woman Tradition. Here she teaches people who come from far places to apprentice or just take a one-day class on plants, health and women’s empowerment!
This spring, she will be leading her annual class on how to prepare herbal medicines yourself. Long-time teacher of empowering our health choices by harvesting plants local to us, Susun also prefers to teach us to take charge of our health by preparing our own remedies and wild foods.
If joining this class, you will identify, harvest, and prepare herbal remedies. You will create teas, infusions, vinegars, tinctures, and honeys from the many useful plants growing all around. This class is great for beginners. The lunch provided will also be a treat to local wild food fare.
“Hands-on Herbal Medicine” will be held at the Wise Woman Center on Saturday, May 20, 2006, from 10am-5pm. The cost is $75, with a $10 discount if paid one week ahead, and $20 discount if paid two weeks ahead. Class includes a delicious wild foods lunch.
Weather permitting, the class leaves promptly at 10:15 am for a walk in the woods with the goats, where you will have a talking stick ceremony, and lots of time to identify and talk about plants and ask questions. When the goats take a break, a wild food lunch will be prepared and enjoyed. Class size will be kept small to allow personal attention. Class held indoors in case of rain.
