The perfect cancer therapy would kill cancers without harming ordinary cells. Billions have been spent on cancer research, yet cancer researchers have failed to discover the magic bullet. Or, is it possible that such cancer bullets been found, and overlooked or ignored, as too good to be true.
The new book Cancer: Nutrition and Survival by Drs. Steve Hickey, Ph. D. and Hilary Roberts, Ph. D. is a treatise on cancer biology. Hickey and Roberts review for the reader science that explains how cells grow and die, the causes of cancer, and what among the nontoxic substances have been found to be lethal to cancer cells without harming ordinary cells.
The book may have been entitled Vitamin C Kills Cancer, because the most important natural cancer killing substance that professors Hickey and Roberts cover is vitamin C, called ascorbate in high dosages. It does not seem possible that this low-cost substance is lethal to cancer cells. It is completely nontoxic to normal cells, even a vital nutrient, and it has no known serious side effects at almost any dosage. It sounds like science fiction, but this book is based on science.
Hickey and Roberts’ review of the literature informs us that scientists and researchers have now discovered other natural, nontoxic substances that appear to equal or amplify vitamin C’s cancer killing ability.
Readers will learn the following:
How better diagnosis skews 5-year cancer survival statistics. Cancer discovered earlier means patients live longer after the diagnosis, not that conventional treatments are necessarily more effective today.
Why it is normal for cells to die to protect the life of the organism; programmed cell death is called apoptosis. (This process is analogous to tree leaves dying in winter to prevent the death of the entire tree.) Hickey and Roberts explain how antioxidants trigger apoptosis in cancer cells.
Why cancers become aggressive, and why conventional methods that shrink but don't destroy tumors can lead to more aggressive tumors.
Why longevity and well-being might be increased by doing nothing in lieu of accepting conventional treatment.
The proper (very high) dosages for controlling cancer with "magic bullet" antioxidants, e. g., vitamin C. The book explains why some dosages will stop cancer growth and why even higher dosages can create blood levels that kill cancers.
An explanation of the confusing experimental findings that have revealed that low dosages of nutrients, including vitamin C, may "feed" fast growing cancer cells, leading to more aggressive growth of tumors.
That nutrients can reach cancer-killing levels via oral administration in most people. Oral administration is not only feasible and advisable, but it is a necessary adjunct to I. V. C administration, in order to keep constant pressure on the growing cancer.
Recently, scientists at the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) made an important discovery. They reported their experiments and confirmed the "magic bullet" nature of vitamin C. Levin and others found in test tubes that vitamin C, as ascorbic acid, was lethal to cancer cells, but not to ordinary cells. According to the NIH, cancer cells die at serum blood levels that require intravenous infusion. Hickey and Roberts have previously informed us in their earlier books (ASCORBATE: The Science of Vitamin C, and the Ridiculous Dietary Allowance) that the required blood concentrations of vitamin C are achievable orally by following their Dynamic Flow model for continuous intake.
CANCER: Nutrition and Survival is written by scientists for scientists, oncologists and other medical professionals and cancer patients. These pharmacology professors tell us that the science exists, but that various natural, unpatenable substances are not being utilized by conventional oncology in the fight against cancer, nor are they being actively studied by pharmaceutical companies (possibly for monetary reasons).
