Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award to be Presented During International Builders’ Show

Bob McLeod, chairman and CEO of Newland, will receive tomorrow the 12th Annual Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award at NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FLA. Newland, the country’s largest privately held land development company, has an impressive history of strong charitable support and participation in community-based programs under McLeod’s leadership of the company which spans four decades. The company’s corporate philanthropy is fostered in part by McLeod’s personal charitable contributions to dozens of organizations, including HomeAid, which has a chapter in Southern Nevada, and Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health at Symphony Park in Las Vegas.
McLeod was nominated for the award by Jeffrey Slavin, CEO of HomeAid, for partnership in its 20 active chapters in diverse communities across America since 2005, including the Southern Nevada chapter. Newland is known for its commitment to creating enduring healthier communities across the country through a company-wide focus on community outreach that helps children and families in need, supports education and the arts, champions sustainable development and protects the environment.

In Las Vegas, Newland has served as project manager for Symphony Park since 2005 when it was retained by the city of Las Vegas to oversee development of this 61-acre downtown community, a key element of the downtown renaissance now underway. Symphony Park’s two current anchor projects include The Smith Center for the Performing Arts (under construction) and Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health completed and seeing patients). Other projects slated for development at Symphony Park include The Charlie Palmer – a boutique hotel developed by celebrity chef, Charlie Palmer and City-Core Development; the World Jewelry Center – a new global marketplace for gem and jewelry professionals and the consuming public; the one casino/hotel at Symphony Park developed by Forest City; and urban-style residential homes by Newland. Recently, Cordish Company entered into an Exclusive Negotiation Agreement with the city of Las Vegas to develop an arena on the north end of Symphony Park.
In addition to a focus on philanthropic efforts, Newland has achieved solid business results with five of its communities ranked in the top 15-selling master planned communities in 2009, and 2010 sales results look equally strong.
