U. S. Company Opens Doors for Chilean Students Eager to Learn English, Seeks Native English Speakers

Chilean schools and universities are eager to host native English speakers in Chile to teach English. ChileÂ’s export-driven economy is premised on strong international trade relations, where a command of the English language is a must, yet only 5 percent of Chilean youth have a reasonable speaking ability of the language. ChileÂ’s schools are in high demand for native English-speaking persons from the U. S., Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand to teach English or assist in English instruction.

Chilean schools and universities are eager to host native English speakers into the country to assist in English instruction. TeachingChile (http://www. TeachingChile. com (http://www. TeachingChile. com)), a U. S. company that is managed, staffed, and operated from Santiago, Chile, is assisting the effort, recruiting interested participants from the U. S., Canada, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.

ChileÂ’s export-driven economy is premised on strong international trade relations, where a command of the English language is a must.

However, only 5 percent of Chilean students possess a reasonable English language speaking ability, according to the University of Cambridge English Exam results for ChileÂ’s first and secondary school students, which was released on Friday, July 1. http://www. teachingchile. com/pdf/five_percent. pdf (http://www. teachingchile. com/pdf/five_percent. pdf)

In an effort to further establish Chile as an economic leader, Chile’s President, Ricardo Lagos, has stated that the country must have a better working knowledge of English if it intends to be more competitive. Chile’s Minister of Education, Sergio Bitar, has reiterated that point, “Education is the wealth of Chile and English opens doors to increase that wealth.”

TeachingChile provides native English speakers worthwhile teaching placements with a monthly stipend sufficient to cover basic living costs at the local standard of living, assistance with finding lodging with a host family, in-country coordinators to provide support and services during the participantÂ’s stay, a two-week in-country orientation and training, a pre-paid insurance package that includes health and accident coverage, a one-year subscription to an English-language Chilean newspaper, and pre-departure information to ensure participants are prepared for the trip including visa advice and other recommendations to be sure they are properly equipped.

“For years DuocUC has integrated native English speakers into our English program,” stated Philip Cary, Director of English Programs at DuocUC. “TeachingChile allows us to expand and improve our English program, reaching a broader audience of students,” Cary added. DuocUC is a four-year professional institute with over 13,000 students in the English program in nine campuses throughout Chile.
