Retiring News 12 Long Island Veteran Helped Build Network Into An Essential Destination For Long Islanders, Covered Some Of The Region's Biggest Stories

News 12 Long Island today announced that long-time anchor and reporter Scott Feldman has decided to retire, capping more than 20 years at News 12 bringing Long Islanders news that is as local as local news gets, winning multiple Emmy Awards and making a significant contribution to the growth and the success of the network. Feldman's final News 12 newscast will be on Friday, November 20 at 5:00 p. m.

Feldman joined the News 12 Long Island team in January of 1988 after working in major markets such as Cleveland, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Phoenix, and Kansas City. He also served as a network affiliate correspondent covering Congress and the White House, as well as a feature reporter for ESPN in Washington, D. C. Feldman has won multiple awards, including four New York Emmy awards, National Headliner honors, a New York Festival World Medal, and a CableAce award. Additionally, Feldman earned a UPI Eastern Region Reporter of the Year Award and a Houston International Film Festival Award.
Feldman's tenure has been marked by a dogged commitment to delivering intensely local news as well as covering some of the biggest stories of our time.. He was one of the first reporters at the crash of Avianca Flight 052, spent more than 12 straight hours on-the-air during the World Trade Center attack, as well as marathon anchoring during the TWA Flight 800 crash. Feldman also covered the "Challenger" shuttle hearings, the Iran-Contra hearings, and the Bush V. Gore landmark U. S. Supreme Court case. Feldman also was the first host of The Challenge, Long Island's High School quiz show and served in that role for 12 years. An avid golfer, Feldman is also known for his "Tee to Green" segment which he originated and appeared in for many years.

Feldman has been recognized for his community efforts on behalf of the Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation, Prostate Cancer Care of Long Island, New York Mental Health Services Council, American Heart Association, and the Cerebral Palsy Association. A native of St. Louis, Feldman graduated from the University of Denver in 1971. He has also served in the U. S. Army Reserves and National Guard.
