Physically Handicapped Dutch Personality Brings Recovering Juveniles an Unforgettable Experience

Joost Nauta, a young Dutchman who suffers from a severe muscular disease that's kept him bound to a wheelchair since early childhood, does not let his physical limitations set limit to his dreams.

On the contrary, he pushes himself to achieve his goals as well as inspire others to do the same. A few years ago Joost Nauta started the Bordercoss Foundation, which promotes a whole new view focusing on the idea that the strength of handicapped people can lead them to discover how to successfully live their lives by crossing borders in spirit and space. Joost Nauta, whose control over his own body has been limited to only the use of his thumbs and mouth, is maybe the best example of this idea. He has been able to create and build this organization which employs several people.

Youth Breaks!

On the 11th of October, Joost Nauta will be at the Curacao airport to welcome the first group of youngsters from the Netherlands who have come to participate in an unforgettable experience organized by the Bordercoss Foundation. They are all patients of the Dutch WilhelminaÂ’s ChildrenÂ’s Hospital, who suffer from a severe arthritis affliction. As the first of four annual Youth Breaks! expeditions, they'll have the time of their lives on this beautiful island in the Dutch Antilles. The climate of Curacao is very suitable for their condition as the water provides them with an ideal environment to develop their physical motor skills. And in the water they will be!

The Youth Breaks! program that Bordercross offers will introduce a different world to the youngsters, where in water, gravity is minimal and movement comes more easily. Under professional guidance, they will face the challenge of open water diving for the very first time! Water can be a dangerous environment where even healthy children need lots of guidance and equipment to help them to breathe and stay under water for a period of time. Many people would have thought this impossible for challenged children, but Bordercross made it a reality!

And that is the main purpose of the Youth Breaks!; Breaking free from thinking about limitations. That's not something only the participants will have to learn! Nothing is impossible!

Joost Nauta can be reached at the following address from 11-10-03 until 20-10-03.
