Düsseldorf to Host UNICEF World Children’s Day 2010

Rhine River Promenade will be site of largest annual non-commercial children’s and family festival in the region.

Düsseldorf, Germany (Vocus) April 9, 2010

A giant outdoor festival on the Rhine River promenade with 100,000 visitors is how Düsseldorf will celebrate World’s Children’s Day on Sunday, September 20, 2010. More than 90 organizations will provide activities and information in booths, stages, and event spaces -- from the Old Town’s castle tower along the river promenade, considered the most beautiful on the Rhine River, all the way down to the State’s parliament building.

The theme of this year’s event, as announced by UNICEF, is “Respect for Children.” The program will include exhibits that focus on living situations and rights of children all around the world, 60 different interactive arts and crafts activities and contests, book and reading areas, musical performances, a circus, and plenty of food and beverages, of course. UNICEF will have its own booth featuring a special exhibit called “Nutrition, Education, Health.”

The State’s parliament building (Landtag North-Rhine Westphalia), located at the southern end of the festival area, will be open that day to offer a related educational program of mock assemblies and conferences for children called “Politics – Easy as Child’s Play.”

The World Children’s Day is an annual celebration in honor of children and minors that was created by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 1954 in an effort to raise awareness about the rights of children and minors all over the world. The event is open from 12 noon - 6 pm.
