Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia: A Good Daughter, Inc. Looks at Eldercare

The Golden Girls looked at Eldercare, now A Good Daughter, Inc. takes another look at Eldercare

MARGATE, Fla. (PRWEB) July 20, 2005

ItÂ’s been twenty years since The Golden Girls was first broadcast. In the two decades that have passed, a trend that was first exposed on that show continues to grow ever stronger.

Women on the average live seven years longer than men and many women expect to be widows. Planning ahead for companionship is great, however according to Olga Brunner, founder of A Good Daughter (www. agooddaughter. com) there are health related benefits to this type of cohabitation.

“Many women simply do not have the local family support and their caregivers become the women they live with for companionship, cost savings, and compassion.” Brunner concedes this living arrangement is not a panacea and has developed a strong elder care program to provide a wide variety of solutions.

A Good Daughter based in Margate, Florida, recently reported that seventeen percent (17%) of caregivers quit their jobs to provide care for aging family members, and another 15% reduce their work hours to assist their loved ones.

Brunner recognized that this living arrangement does not work for everyone and noted that, “Our Professional Care Managers plan and organize care and services for the Broward and Palm Beach elderly population, affording families a peace of mind that their loved ones will find and secure services such as ongoing supervision of certified home care assistants, home maintenance and care, medication supervision, coordination of medical appointments and representation at these appointments, legal counsel, specialized air travel escorts, and many other services.”

Olga Brunner originally moved from California to Florida to care for her aging mother with Alzheimer's Disease. Having been affected by the daunting task of being a caregiver while employed, she became determined to start a business which would help other caregivers navigate the troubled waters of elder care. By founding A Good Daughter, Inc., she became a care manager who brings a personal awareness of the needs of close or long distance caregivers and their loved ones. Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia made great entertainment. Unfortunately most seniors lack that support system.
